Toyota Prius. When that first came out in the states, it was it’s own cultural revolution. That’s when cars started becoming political, too. you had Hummer and the Prius representing different visions for the American car.
Toyota still can't make batteries in the amount needed to field a significant number of EVs in their lineup. That is the only reason why they are pushing hybrids/PHEVs so hard. The moment they have a massive battery factory up and running, Toyota will suddenly have press releases for 6 new EVs and say "Gasoline? Why would you want to use that?"
Toyota actually put already news for 7!!! new BEV's (the BZ or Beyond Zero line), the first of which, the BZ4x+, will be a "Rav4 BEV" (same footprint, but longer wheelbase on a skateboard-like platform). These won't be "Tesla fast", but will certainly be more efficient on battery juice. Toyota is already preparing (with Panasonic mostly) for that battery ramp up.

As a 40 year old (now) Midwesterner who grew up in the same part of PA as Mr. Regular, I am the "Brandon" here who is afraid to run out of electricity when it's -11 degrees. I currently get 154 mpge, fill the gas tank every 3 months or so, and charge overnight (when electricity is only 4 cents per kwh) every night. It's the perfect vehicle if it weren't so hard to come by. Great review.
Last year tye ol' lady abd I went car shopping. We looked at every single "SUV" on the market under about 50k. And the fully loaded prime is what she liked the most. And this is a lady whose driven V8's and turbo V6's most of her life. Yea. Its boaring to most but you can't deny that Yota quality and dependability.
when i worked at a toyota dealership the v6 rav4s(when they still made them) were shockingly fast. i was honestly blown away. a guy i worked with who owned an evo 8 even said the same thing. they were crazy quick and no one would expect it.
My Mom got almost this exact car so she could go unnoticed in her small town where she is a school administrator. They're great cars and no one will bat an eye at the person driving them.
My grandmother picked this as her retirement car and says I get it when she passes. Had no idea it’s 0-60 is 4.7sec. Now I’m way more excited
Roman, you killed it with the northwest passage spoof! Keep up the good work.
Ok, Roman, your take on Northwest Passage was on-frigging-point. Wow. Along the way a good car review occurred as well. Having driven a RAV4 for 8 years in the past, dependable, quality, vanilla for sure.
That closing a cappella was beautiful
Roman, I think that was the best outro song so far, well done.
Premium package has a 6.6 kw charger instead of the normal 3.3 kw. So you can actually use a level 2(240v) charger to good effect.
I get Matt’s off road recovery references in my Regular car reviews video? Best day ever!
BRUH I LOVE THE STAN ROGERS COVER! Need an album of that, local legend of Nova Scotia
My 1999 RAV4 did 0-60 in like 15 seconds with my foot on the floor and the optional “ECT” sport button engaged.
They sure have come a long way since then.
You can swap in an MR-2 turbo engine in that thing
The Stan Rogers tribute was excellent.
Thank you!
We are in the era of sleepers again and I love it
So many things can do 0-60 in the 5 second range these days
Malibu 2.0t, Ford Fusion sport, Rav4 Prime, hell even V6 and 4 cylinder camaros! Its nuts
I was not expecting Stan Rodgers. Kudos. The Mary Ellen Carter is my kids lullaby.
Roman, I gotta be honest, this was the best outro song parody you've done. I love it. Well done.
I second that
1:04 I can't tell if that's self-censorship or just adding variety, but I like it.
That MegaMan 2 reference once again reminds me that I am directly in the crosshairs of your key demographic. Well done sir!
and a White Run reference!!
Nice harmony on that music, Nick.
Above and Beyond with the metaphors on this one. From the Guest Pastor, to the kink subreddit, your observations are so true.
You earned my "like" as soon as you mentioned Black Rifle Coffee. LMAO!
Gotta love those paytriots
I cannot believe Nick covered that song. Just a beautiful tune, in both versions.
Love the Northwest Package parode at the end 🤣🤣
First time I heard that northwest passage song was on nova I think, on a PBS station. Was about some people who had died either searching for it or died while taking it. Been years. Brings me back
Great work on the Stan Rogers tune!
I say this with all due love and appreciation: but it sure was nice to hear an outro music bit that wasn't accompanied by a poorly played out of tune guitar and actually had a modicum of effort invested into it
Forgot to mention that loud ass reverse sound it makes. I can hear that "I'm healing my team mate in a futuristic FPS" from a mile away.
I just witnessed this two hours ago. I thought that the guy's steering was making that racket
It's a feature! It let's me know when my wife gets called in at night, because the Camry Hybrid backing out of the garage is louder than her cell phone ringing.
Have you heard Kia's version though? It bongs in reverse.
We refer to it as the "choir of singing angels".
You can ask the dealer to turn that off. It's crazy that it's a default setting.
We have a 21 Rav4 XLE AWD and love it. Got all the fancy gizmos. Only mod I've done is the LED cargo hatch lights.
Yep, once I pay off the loan on my current Rav4, I'm upgrading to this.
You mean downgrading to a new car payment
@@henryovalles1163 In that case, with a 2012 Toyota Rav4 Limited, it'll even out.
have an old RAV4 myself. it's boring as F and rides like crap on the pot-hole filled Pennsylvania roads. but man, is it reliable and has excellent cargo storage. the 4x4 lock mode under 25mph is really solid too
I would take one of these any day of the week over some janky tesla.
Roman really ON POINT with that a capella chorus piece at the end.
I havent watched this yet, but ive been waiting for this!! Been on the fence about the new Rav4 prime to replace my aging but still super reliable 2010 rav4 4cyl. Let see what you have to say about this rig!
I’m waiting for the 6th Gen. It will probably have more EV range and a smaller ICE. In addition it will probably grow a little bit into the perfect size SUV. The next Gen will probably have hybrid standard, prime option, and BEV option.
That "Northwest passage" ending is just fantastic, Bravo
The Nod to “The Northwest Passage” was stellar!
telsa driver wearing mask alone, classic
Wanted a new RAV 4 Prime but there were/are none for sale in WA State so I settled for next best and went for a RAV4 XSE Hybrid. Very happy with it.......
I'm pretty sure I saw Big Brandon the other day. He took the R and M from the grille of his Ram, switched them around, flipped the M, and spelled out WAR. 🙄
I started driving in my dad's 2010 Rav4 V6 Sport, that thing did 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and blew everything my friends had.
I’m driving my Mom’s 2010 V6 RAV4 and it does 0-60 in 5.9. Can’t believe how fast it is.
I have the radar cruise and lane keep assist on my 21 corolla, it makes any car the best commuter car, I can blast the music without worrying too much about where I'm going.
And we motorcyclists and bicyclists know you by your trail of dead.
I've got that stuff on the rental I've got right now, and the lane departure assist is the first thing I figured out how to turn off. Can't stand the car interfering
Subbed for the final song alone. Where has this channel been all my life?
Toyota Prius. When that first came out in the states, it was it’s own cultural revolution. That’s when cars started becoming political, too. you had Hummer and the Prius representing different visions for the American car.
Yeah, the prius perfectly represents the slow descent of America into politicizing everything. Everything is left or right now, yet nothing really is.
@@ileutur6863 that shit gets on my nerves man. Just please stop making things political when they’re not. 😩
Oh my god, that mega man 2 bit was perfect. I thought i was the only one that did that as a kid
Yeah same! No one ever talks about the monotonous slog it was being dragged to church every Sunday of your life…
@@roddydykes7053 or being stuck in a crowded car for several hours of driving at least once every quarter
That "Matts off road recovery" reference 😂
the last 3-4 days I've been hearing The Northwest Passage, and now to hear it here along with a Matt's Offroad Recovery joke is just frying my brains.
Hey look, Toyota made the Chevy volt again, one of the best daily driver drivetrains of the last decade that Chevy stopped selling for some reason?
Terrible sales 0nly seated 4 wasn't a cross uv
...because it was a compact car that cost 45 grand.
Cramped, ugly interior and weird styling made it unpopular.
@@markmiller3279 maybe because it was a compact sedan?
Love the Stan Rogers tribute at the end. Well done Roman!
Great now I got the Megaman 2 soundtrack in my head.... again...
I love the Matt's off-road recovery Sand Hollow references.
Looking forward to you getting ahold of an F150 lightning
Best closing tune in a while! Good job Roman!!
That outro song is hilarious, thanks!
I'm just glad that the styling of this generation of Rav4 doesn't look as terrible as the previous
Roman, that Northwest Passage RAV4 combo was glorious!
AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOW THE BOOK AND FLUSH YOUR RADIATOR OF SIN, YOU’LL TRAVEL FAR!!!
is this a reference to the old rav4 review?
@@alidaraie you know it.
I really appreciate using Northwest Passage as the base for today’s song.
Mr. Regular: "My name's Brandon"
Me: LET'S GO!!
