The purpose of all season tires in winter is to just keep your car high enough above the ground so you can sweep the snow out from under.

The accidental "performance" tires on my first Toyota were so poor, they couldn't get up up a 3° slope with one inch of snow with a tarmac parking lot. I don't think Toyota gives much thought to snow.

I see too many comments of people that don’t know anything about vehicles and what Toyota did here.
Toyota gave us a compact SUV that is the 3rd fastest vehicle on their fleet, with almost 40mpgs combined and capable of going 42 miles without using a drop of fuel.
What other vehicle out there exists that does this and starts at $40k?

One of these used with low miles recently sold for $60,000+ somewhere in the US. The economy is insane. great video Tommi, Rav 4's have always been decent in the snow and ice, the Prime really showed its capability on the trail full of ice/snow, tires were its achilles heel and a set of Michelins or Bridgestones dedicated snow tires the results would have been night and day different, awesome job testing it out, my brother in law has an older Rav 4 V6 that has the optional rear locker, although it only works up to 25 mph or maybe a little less, i was surprised how good it did this past winter and he does run a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks and he never even came close to getting stuck and this winter was our 2nd highest snowfall recorded in Winnipeg since 1881 and it has just started to melt nice this week, awesome video 👍

Rear locker in a Rav4? The 2006-2012 Rav4 v6's anyway never had a locker option, there was a "diff lock" button but all that did was force the awd system into 50/50 power split.

I'm not into Hybrids or EVs but the Prime almost addresses all my concerns. I think Toyota should make a TRD version and get rid of the sunroof and install a solar panel to charge the systems when not in use or near a charger for this Rav4 to be just about perfect. I tend to keep my cars for 12 or more years and generally put in over 300k miles on the odometer. This has always been with ICE equipped Toyota's and other than general maintenance Toyota has been very good to me. One massive worry about these new Prime vehicles is that all batteries die at some point and to replace a Prime battery is about $10,000. That's an expense I have never incurred with an ICE vehicle in my entire life.

I think I will stick with what conclusion you gave us initially back when you did trim comparisons. The Prime is ideal for on road performance. When your starting $ is well over 40K, then are supposed to modify it for OR condition running such as add proper tires, rock rails and under body protection at a minimal(raised ride height optional)you might as well just buy a proper 4x4 out of the gate for less money that has all that to begin with. The Rav4 TRD is not worth the $. (IMO) For similar logistics. I still maintain your conclusion that the XSE Hybrid was the best out of the box multi purpose Rav4 if one wants to dabble in both environments. For a reasonable price. Which is a great credit to your comparisons. :)
