Matt, you have reached that point where you are near perfection in car reviewing. Been watching your videos for a long time and seen how you have evolved.
That's your problem - You say they are buttons. You push a button - and that really will not work, not on this car. The rear seat releases in the boot roof are handles - for pulling, not pushing - to release the seats. I'm on my 3rd XFS = Two 3.0L D previous - and this latest - a 3.0L supercharged - and I wouldn't have anything else at the moment. The bad ole days of being unreliable are far far in the past. Pictures on my pinned tweet @FakeloveFN and I’m legit 6’3 so if I can seat comfortably in the back then I’m sure plenty of others can as well.
0:21 is it me or do all the panels and gaps look all over the place? Shame about the bonnet being 'smaller' as well as it makes the front look really ugly.
+Dezz9820 not true, I think Mat might be biased cuz the car's British, the XF should be the last car somebody who's willing for an E-Class, 5 Series etc class car get, its way too dated, he should've said avoid and wait for the upcoming redesign
I own a 2017 ford Mondeo titanium and went for a test drive today in a new XF. It beat my Mondeo in every department. The drive and handling was SPECTACULAR.
It already looks dated interior and exterior compared to its rivals, i know its more sporty to drive but if i wanted a sporty driving i wouldn't think of a car in this segment in the first place so the XF is the least desired car in its class for me.
Julian J i think it looks nice but I wouldn't buy one because it looks like a car for people 50+ however maybe if i saw one in a better colour it would change my opinion
notformebeaky thats the exact one I'm looking for. My Dad has had a 2.2D premium lux for 3 years too. Lovely car. I know on paper the Germans are better, but it has a great personallity and looks like a million pounds especially compared to the new XF.
It just looks like the German rivals now. Nothing but a little badge on the grill to define it's make. The bulges in the bonnet have gone, as have the other classic jaguar lines. Given the reliability of these cars, I wouldn't touch another one ever again. Jaguar dealers just rip you off as well. Input mine in to have the alternator changed and they charged me 260 to diagnose that it needed the alternator changing, even though I had already made that simple diagnosis.
I bought an XE as it's more nimble and I don't often take rear passengers for long journeys. If my kids were a few years younger then I'd have gone for the XF. Beautiful car to drive.
I had one of these as a run around while my Pre face lift XF was in for a service. I wasn’t that impressed with the car, felt like I could have been sat in either a BMW or Audi, it didn’t have that Jaaaag feel to the interior. Also the 8 speed box felt like it would hunt for the correct gear at times, and when braking it seemed to change down too early, thus putting it in the higher rev range which would in turn effect the braking more, so making the slowing down more jerky, unlike the 6 speed box on my XF which feels a lot more smoother. Was I sad to hand it back? Noooooo! I couldn’t wait to get back in my 10 year old XF.
I just bought a jag XF 2008 4 months. It's my 1st jag and now I'm a fan. I needed a run about and for 3k best decision ever. On my way to work I sometimes feel like driving past work and into the peak district. I don't want to get out of it.
6 years after my comment.. I ve bought a XF lol... but a 2021.. it is a fantastic new design, great finish.. and it have seduced me more than the 5 serie or E class. You should do a review because the last XF is now a great sedan with real premium class.
There's somebody who works near me who gets a new XF every six months. I kid you not. Not immediately either, as today was the first time I saw their 66-plate XF in blue.
I kind of like it, but I would even more so if the cabin was more plush. You're forking out over £30K in the end, though it is a Jaguar, and it's a big, spacious car with a full aluminium body shell. You'd probably look rather pleased with yourself cruising down the motorway in one.
I bought one of these and its my last jag. I have had four Jags and each and every one of the buggers the headlining came down $1000 to repair. It is high time Jaguar changed the glue they use. Worse the car locked in a low gear as I entered a motorway and I couldn’t stop the car or change gear. MY LAST JAG. We were lucky not to die in this case. Fortunately, I managed to stop with both feet on the brake pedal which caused the engine to stall the car after a 2 K wild ride. One doesn’t expect such problems in a car that has only traveled 30.000 ks
I have one of these with a cream interior and that looks much better. This car isn’t as modern or sporty as a German rival but here in the UK it does impress friends and family who always say ‘ohhh a jaaaag’ when they see it.
The front end, grille and headlights, are the best looking of any car anywhere. It now looks like the EX. The font end of the E Pace is let down by the F Type headlights which look a bit crap.
I grew up with Rover/LR/JLR While I see many improvements in in the past 10 years, am dissapointed with the bland interior design brought by the XE. Its a pitty since the new infotainment system is so good. Great reviews from your team Matt, keep the good work
hopefully the estate version has a big petrol engine on the way. specific requirements I know but if so there'll definitely be one in my family garage in a bit.
@@jeffallinson8089 The S-type was a good car, nice interior, looked gooded and had good V6 and V8 engines, they're very nice to drive aswell as are all Jaguar's
The Jag is the coolest looking car i've ever seen it looks way better than its German rivals and the interior looks amazing... I Don't know why everybody doesn't like it, personally I hate the interior of the rival BMW and mercedes
Which one/s between the Jaguar XF, Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Volvo S90 diesels is/are more quiet inside and which one/s feels/feel more solid (shutting the doors, etc)? So which one/s has/have better build quality in general? For similar price, would you choose the Audi A6 40 TDI 2.0L/4cyl 204 hp (FWD), the BMW 520d 2.0L/4cyl 190 hp (RWD), the Volvo S90 D4 Inscription 2.0L/4cyl 190hp (FWD/AWD), [or for less money the S90 D4 Momentum 2.0L/4cyl 190hp (FWD)], or the Jaguar XF 3.0 TDV6 3.0L/6cyl 300 hp (RWD)?
In all honesty, I've been scoping an XF for a few months now, mostly as it looks nice and the interior looks classy. It's a SUBJECTIVE thing and I find it appealing. However, I'm reading the comments and I'm not quite sure whether it's the right choice. What's a guy to choose for everyday commuting to work and back home, 90 miles a day, with approximately 70-90 miles per hour on highway? I'm currently driving a Nissan Qashqai and it gets quite loud on the highway.
Same thoughts here. What did you end up getting. Because of the mixed reviews, as great as this car LOOKS, I'm leaning towards just getting a Toyota Avalon it seems the best choice for less problems & more reliability. Less risk than going with Jaguar. And that is a shame this car LOOKS way more beautiful than the Avalon. But I do like the Avalon looks also & I like it because I don't see many on the road. Whereas I see far too many Lexus ES.
@@WrestlingErnestHemingway I went and got myself a Volvo V90, the ultimate family machine. Best of luck with finding what's right for Your circumstances and Your wallet. Cheers
I prefer the look of the previous model, the new grill looks too wide & too upright. The boot hinges on my Lancer are better designed gas struts, so why is this latest Jaguar skimping on such a useful feature?
Gloss piano black veneer, not plastic Same as a real piano, it is Tulipwood veneer 0.6mm thick stained black then has gloss lacquer applied. Jaguar does not use plastic fake veneers!
I currently own a 2010 XFR which is undergoing some Tlc to keep her going strong, in the mean time Jaguar has lent me a new XF 2017 2.0 Rsport....Obviously the engines are not comparable but the cars build is and I can say first hand that my 7 year old 65k car sounds and feels better put together than this new one with 6k on the clock. currently the new one at 70mph has a noise from the passenger front door, theres a rattle from trim in the back the sat Nav unit is slower to react than a snail and I opened the boot yesterday and the black trim piece between the rear lights came off in my hand....Oh dear. shocked to say that I was considering the upgrade to the new model but on this current car I certainly will keep my older one. really dissapointed but it could just be a rouge one I guess as it looks like its had a tough life for a 2month old car....bless it
I really appreciate Jaguar's steering feel, but they really need to upgrade the interior quality of the XE and XF. They both look and feel less premium than their competitors! (maybe with the exception of the aging BMW 3-series.)
Just to share my personal experience? I had a 2014 Jaguar XF S luxury 3.0 diesel sedan. Worst car I’ve ever had. The Dunlop tyres that came with the car were under specced that the car lost traction easily on wet surface. I had to replace all four tyres at my own cost at the first service. But the most annoying part is the DPF. It’s the filter diesel cars equip to trap dirty diesel fume. Because I do suburban driving mainly, the filter gets clogged up very quickly. And when it’s full, the car restricts the engine output that the car can only travel at a maximum 40 km/ hour and would take a minute to even reach that. That happened to me way too many times during peak hours. Imagine the dirty stares I had to endure from my fellow road users. Of course the car can only be towed back to the dealership to get fixed and that usually took a week or so. Just another interruption in life I don’t need. Given the car was purchased new and was still under warranty, the filter got replaced after 3 of those horrible events within a period of 6 months. And the solution... The dealership advised me to take the car for a long drive on freeway every week to burn off the rubbish trapped in the filter. What a ridiculous recommendation. Other people walk their dogs and I had to find time to “walk” my jaguar. Needless to say, I put the car on the market within 1.5 years of owning it and lost more than half of my money. Guess what, I had to replace both rear tyres again to get the car roadworthy. What kind of car requires tyre changes every 15000km. I’m not even a traffic light racer type. Still I’m happy to cut the loss by getting rid of this nightmare. I bought my wife a Mercedes S350 which is a diesel V6. We’ve had it for a year and still doing the suburban driving, never had that DPF problem. As for me, I’m driving my wife’s 2012 Mercedes E350 Estate. It’s older than the Jaguar XF but it’s so much better in terms of build quality, reliability and ride experience. I would never trust a Jaguar or Land Rover.
I've had similar issues on my xj tdvi but perhaps you should not of bought a diesel just to do city or local driving I get the od dpf full see handbook alarm every 3 or 4 months I just stay in 3rd or 4th at 70mph for 20 mins and it clears it out just fine but I do 20k miles a year mainly motorway
@@Sophiechic I have a Mercedes S350 which is a diesel and built in the same year as the Jag. I drive the car in the way. It never had the DPF issue. In my opinion, the problem lies with Jag, not diesel cars.
This is a diesel problem only. Jag has nothing to do with it. I've had the same problems on my 2,7l diesel jag, 2006 toyota avensis 2.2L diesel, even on an audi. My friend recently had this on his diesel subaru, again, all because we mostly did city driving and diesels don't like that too much. This also might indicate a bigger problem. Diesels create particles-yes, but the standart issued DPF should easily handle those. If it doesn't it means the engine is producing more of those particles than was expected. Might be a fuel problem, fuel filter, injectors, maybe even EGR valves. Either way what the dealers recommended was correct. A couple times a month just take it for a longer ride, an hour would be just fine to burn everything in the DPF. And if you are somewhere so deep inside the city it's a bother for you - dont buy a diesel .
Love your videos. I've come across them only about a two days ago and yet I watched about 20 of them. But there is one thing. It would be even better, if you would colorgrade all the shots and the best scenario - to match them. (i know it is time consuming, but it would be better a bit. Because the quality of shots is really good. Mat, you are becoming one of my favouritest presenters!
I assume that those who say it's 'dated' just don't know the phrase 'tastefully understated'. I guess, too, those criticising it have never driven one. This is the best-driving car in its segment by a country mile.
The Volvo and the Merc oozes modern & luxury. This jaguar looks like 5 year old Range Rover Evoque. If you were going to get one of these, definitely choose the cream interior. Going down the sporty design route is fine, but sometimes if the interior is to plain and boring, you don't feel like your driving something special.

To be honest, I liked the old 2+ 2- thing better than the avoid ... buy thing
Matts Koldewijn it's pointless him even saying avoid because there is no new car on sale that would be so bad you have to avoid
+Dezz9820 not true, I think Mat might be biased cuz the car's British, the XF should be the last car somebody who's willing for an E-Class, 5 Series etc class car get, its way too dated, he should've said avoid and wait for the upcoming redesign
ChelseaFC !!! It just got best car in it's class Award!
I own a 2017 ford Mondeo titanium and went for a test drive today in a new XF. It beat my Mondeo in every department. The drive and handling was SPECTACULAR.
Mat should be the lead presenter of Top Gear
It already looks dated interior and exterior compared to its rivals, i know its more sporty to drive but if i wanted a sporty driving i wouldn't think of a car in this segment in the first place so the XF is the least desired car in its class for me.
It can be specced to look modern though, big black wheels and red paint looks great
Julian J i think it looks nice but I wouldn't buy one because it looks like a car for people 50+ however maybe if i saw one in a better colour it would change my opinion
The last XF looks more expensive and desirable than the lot imo
notformebeaky so true. But this colour and wheel combo really doesn't do the car any favours. I'm looking to buy a 2013/4 XF instead.
notformebeaky thats the exact one I'm looking for. My Dad has had a 2.2D premium lux for 3 years too. Lovely car. I know on paper the Germans are better, but it has a great personallity and looks like a million pounds especially compared to the new XF.
the classic jaguar hood ornament should be there! make it retractable so it doesn't pierce into pedestrians
It kinda looks like shit on new Jaguars though
Minhao Dong lol!
@@Kaisuke971 that's because indians prefer to save money
It just looks like the German rivals now. Nothing but a little badge on the grill to define it's make. The bulges in the bonnet have gone, as have the other classic jaguar lines.
Given the reliability of these cars, I wouldn't touch another one ever again. Jaguar dealers just rip you off as well. Input mine in to have the alternator changed and they charged me 260 to diagnose that it needed the alternator changing, even though I had already made that simple diagnosis.
That is a handy space for having all the things you have borrowed...
This car is damn freaking fast and smooth
Is it worth it to take the XF over the XE for the price delta? Or get an XE S for the samen price?
XE is lower quality materials at least when I was testing one at the dealer with highest interior trim.
+Matts Koldewijn I much prefer the XF
JAGUAR XFR THE TRUE BEAST.
6 years after my comment.. I ve bought a XF lol... but a 2021.. it is a fantastic new design, great finish.. and it have seduced me more than the 5 serie or E class. You should do a review because the last XF is now a great sedan with real premium class.
If you close your eyes and listen to the door shut you would think it's a Ford
Dezz9820 why?
quality of materials are cheap, build quality and fit and finish aren't good either. compared to the germans, it feels like a cheaper car.
livc444111 he is mocking the quality by mocking an old skoda advert.
Modern Tata Jaguar-Land Rover has about as much to do with Ford Jaguar as modern Renault-Nissan has to do with AMC.
That doesn't mean it can still sound as a cheaper, material used, car.
It looks dated compared to its rivals and the road noise was notable over other cars. Jaguar will get left behind.
Danny Ward thats why mercedes makes the E class. should be insane if you're considering the xf over an e class.
Faiz Wiralaga The merc looks fantastic in and out and so will the new audi, shame jaguar didn't go for a newer design to keep it fresh.
There's somebody who works near me who gets a new XF every six months. I kid you not. Not immediately either, as today was the first time I saw their 66-plate XF in blue.
Stephan Dolby What are your thoughts on it? I loved the new jag when it first arrived, but they've failed to update it and it may get left behind.
I kind of like it, but I would even more so if the cabin was more plush. You're forking out over £30K in the end, though it is a Jaguar, and it's a big, spacious car with a full aluminium body shell. You'd probably look rather pleased with yourself cruising down the motorway in one.
Why do you have JAG ATWAL in the boot ?
those wheels are straight from toyota camry
Azhaar you're not fucking wrong my aunties Camry literally has hubcaps that look like that
Maybe they are hoping reliability will rub off.
I have a xf portfolio in black and it has lovely black wheels
Is faurecia the suppliers of jaguar for the dashboard, seat , interior ?
why do you need to pay extra for fold down rear seats arent they just designed to fold anyway?
i believe that the Jag is two generations behind the german rivals...
I believe i can fly ..... so fucking what!
I think one generarion, but you are right about being behind
Two generations so you think a e60 5 series bmw is as good as this?you are deluded just another German fanboy
Great reviews from your team Matt, keep the good work
Any chance of the sportbrake model being tested please. Preferably the 3 litre diesel s model.
hopefully the estate version has a big petrol engine on the way. specific requirements I know but if so there'll definitely be one in my family garage in a bit.
I'd just buy it. I have always loved the XF.
The S-type was a good looking car. A true styling reflection to the S-type of the 60's.
The S Type was a dreadful look back at the past.
@@jeffallinson8089 The S-type was a good car, nice interior, looked gooded and had good V6 and V8 engines, they're very nice to drive aswell as are all Jaguar's
@@adamwoodward2003 I never was a fan of the S-Type, but love the XF however.
@@jeffallinson8089 XF's are good cars, especially with the V8
@@adamwoodward2003 I'd even have the 2L Diesel tbh.
how reliable is the newer Jaguar? I'm worried I would have to buy another Jaguar as the other one is in the dealership for repairs
Do this Jag’s LED day-time running lights double as indicators on the bi-xenon headlights ?
I'm starting to like your reviews more than any other (including the topgear boys, chris harris etc)
The Jag is the coolest looking car i've ever seen it looks way better than its German rivals and the interior looks amazing... I Don't know why everybody doesn't like it, personally I hate the interior of the rival BMW and mercedes
2:01 that’s not true, I’m 6’0 and I’m driven in one every day and it’s absolutely fine unless you’re a super tall person
I still hate the fact that the area next to the screen is grey. They could have implented some kind of trim like its rivals.
Where's it built - India or Britain? Can you still get a Daimler version?
Please do a 2020 update
why don't you review Jaguar XJ L or XJR 575 ??
I love my xf 2017 20d. Best thing since sliced bread
Audi A4.... Nothing is built better for the money
Cheers
Are you doing a review on the new 2021 model?
The boot interior needs to be covered also a full suitcase and hockey bag can fit that's cool just make the car big enough for 6ft plus people.
Its so good to watch Mat getting more views again. Really great content. Keep it up!
when will you review the jaguar XJL 2018 . V8 ?
I'm confused, Video title says a 2018 XF, but the video was posted in 2016. What are we watching?
I prefer the look of the previous model, the new grill looks too wide & too upright.
The boot hinges on my Lancer are better designed gas struts, so why is this latest Jaguar skimping on such a useful feature?
The standard configuration for the prestige model gives you gloss black plastic veneers
Gloss piano black veneer, not plastic
Same as a real piano, it is Tulipwood veneer 0.6mm thick stained black then has gloss lacquer applied.
Jaguar does not use plastic fake veneers!
Second thing, in carbuyers comparison for this class they there is less noise than the s90 in the XF but i heard the opposite thing
The refinement seems really poor in this video - tyre roar is really intrusive.
Needs updating like the XE.
Which car is so economical with diesel fuel
Mercedes e classa e220d
Bmv 520 d
Jaguar xf diesel
????
I currently own a 2010 XFR which is undergoing some Tlc to keep her going strong, in the mean time Jaguar has lent me a new XF 2017 2.0 Rsport....Obviously the engines are not comparable but the cars build is and I can say first hand that my 7 year old 65k car sounds and feels better put together than this new one with 6k on the clock. currently the new one at 70mph has a noise from the passenger front door, theres a rattle from trim in the back the sat Nav unit is slower to react than a snail and I opened the boot yesterday and the black trim piece between the rear lights came off in my hand....Oh dear.
shocked to say that I was considering the upgrade to the new model but on this current car I certainly will keep my older one. really dissapointed but it could just be a rouge one I guess as it looks like its had a tough life for a 2month old car....bless it
Courtesy cars are like hire cars. They get treated with total disrespect and not as well looked after by their drivers.
The dashboard reminds me of a Corolla Altis. It's beautiful indeed but i just can't get the imagery out of my head
Why do we have to have all cars with digital displays? The analog ones were good enough to show the speed.
@@Sophiechic
I have a Mercedes S350 which is a diesel and built in the same year as the Jag.
When is the new 5 series coming to UK ?
wanna see how XF and 5 series go against each other.
XF will be a bag of shit compared to the 5.
Red Pill Intelligence Oh God !
nakul singh It's a bag of shit compared to the F10 and I don't even like the F10 that much.
Love your videos. I've come across them only about a two days ago and yet I watched about 20 of them. But there is one thing. It would be even better, if you would colorgrade all the shots and the best scenario - to match them. (i know it is time consuming, but it would be better a bit. Because the quality of shots is really good.

+carwow maybe do an f pace review?
It's on the way
I drive the first generation and it’s gorgeous
6:01 You mean "*magic* mirrror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"?
I assume that those who say it's 'dated' just don't know the phrase 'tastefully understated'. I guess, too, those criticising it have never driven one. This is the best-driving car in its segment by a country mile.
Alan Mac Even if this was the case: Almost noone cares for a sporty limo with worse resale value, worse amount of dealers and worse image than a BMW.
Will you be having an Alfa Romeo Guilia review soon?
Jaguar XF competitor is Audi A6 and Mercedes Benz E Class
Which would you personally prefer
The Volvo and the Merc oozes modern & luxury. This jaguar looks like 5 year old Range Rover Evoque. If you were going to get one of these, definitely choose the cream interior. Going down the sporty design route is fine, but sometimes if the interior is to plain and boring, you don't feel like your driving something special.
