I have had the oil and filter done every 8k full service history new tyres brake and pads , my mate has a garage so well worth it. they still want 5 to 7k on Autotrader. may just keep it as a backup motor. looked at the 2019 XF 2.0 diesel was not impressed with the new Duratec engine sounded like a tractor. heard bad rumours about it.
I was looking at the 3.0D Portfolio version of this, but ended up with the pre-facelift XFR. I put a low offer on an auction and bloody won it 😅 my sensible side lost out to my only live once side
The facelifted one was so much nicer. The air vents are very easy to fix just a simple plastic clutch roughly like £6 on eBay? The hilarious thing is mine is a portfolio XFS and it doesn’t have front sensors or a reverse camera but has adaptive cruise… So that spec you have there has more options fitted!
Matt I’m triggered with that missing chrome piece off the front! Did you forget. You never mentioned it again. That would drive me insane. I’d either pull the other side off or order the part. I love the xf. The seats are so comfy. Quirky things like the gear disc that rises and the air vents. Proper cool. Also looks really smart. I’m sure they are rear wheel drive as well aren’t they?? Great vid 👏👏
Amazing car for the money, even though it was parked in bay 13. I first thought that sign on the grass verge said "Please park Matt's "I've massively overspent" vehicles here.
Love this episode Matt. Smoothly exposing how one can get into a gorgeously designed British luxury car for similar money to the simplest Tuc-Tuc from the otherwise low-end junk out there 😉 (which is well covered).
There are companies out there that make a very good living just rebuilding those 3 litre V6 diesels. The list of faults that cause catastrophic engine failure on those things is very long indeed! The 2.2 is the better choice. It might be gruff, but its solid.
@@johnwb40They have a very well documented problem with crankshaft failure, either spun bearings or the crankshaft actually snapping. No amount of proper servicing can prevent that. Not to mention the myriad turbo, EGR and oil cooler issues. Ask any mechanic and they'll tell you to avoid that engine. I do agree about the single exhaust looking wrong, but I'd still pick the 2.2 over the 3L any day of the week.
@@1maico1From what I can find online they have timing chain and water pump issues, but I don't think they're as bad as the Diesels. Honestly though any used Jag is going to be a gamble. 🤷
@@AWMJoeyjoejoe It is documented, you’re right, but as a result of poor maintenance and letting the dpf allow diesel into the oil. There are companies specialising in faults of most manufacturers. It’s far from inevitable and there are many 3l out there with significantly high mileages. Naturally you don’t hear about the majority who don’t have issues. The 2.2 just doesn’t fit the pedigree and you may as well go for a mondeo or similar.
I had a 2010 XF S with the 20 inch alloys also found on the XK... big mistake. Had to replace two in the first 6 months of having it. Then I discovered the other two were corroding on the inside edges and letting out air. They're split face too which means refurb is a nightmare with bolts regularly being stripped. Never again! 16-18 inch alloys all the way. Even if these particular ones don't look great.
I came so close to buying one of these a few weeks back, but I had doubts as I wasn't sure how reliable they were, plus I didn't know if replacement parts would be expensive? so I stuck with what I know and got a Ford Mondeo titanium X, lovely car but after watching your video I wished I had gone for a Jag now.
I bought a brand new 2015 2.2 diesel R-Sport Black edition, the 200bhp version in Italian Racing Red. Swallows Jaguar did a mild remap which improved the MPG by about 4 and the BHP by about 30. It also vastly improved the single turbo driving experience. It drove like a sports car. Brilliant handling and properly pokey. I once took it from Cardiff to Spa Francorchamps and back over a long weekend for the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix and averaged 50 mph and 50 mpg. And that included three hours of traffic around Brussels. Was a great car. Later swapped it for the newer aluminium XF S with the 3.0 supercharged petrol engine and 380 bhp.
Back in March 2021 I swapped a 2010 XF 3.0d Premium Luxury (which I loved, owned it for 5 happy years) for a 2015 SF S with Supercharged 3 litre V6 and 380 horsepower too. In British Racing Green. Fantastic car, isn't it? Absolute hoot to drive, but you can also cruise in style and luxury if you want. And it's a Jaaag. I find the newer XF is a much sportier drive than the older one: presumably that's the same for you?
@@R04drunner1 Yes, a slightly lighter car so a bit more agile but didn't find as much difference in handling as I thought there would be. The engine was much more powerful obviously. However, it had to have a top end left bank engine rebuild (under warranty thank goodness). After that I wasn't fussed on keeping it so as soon as it was done I swapped it for an F-Type S AWD.
If it's on 166K and still running it's had the cambelt changed! The 2.2 is the PSA motor so due at 125K, did our mondeo recently nice easy job 🙂 No way it's gone over the mileage requirement but a nice job by yourself and helping someone out in a time of need, well played Matt 👍👍
The base spec was quite well specified - electric leather seats were standard. Most noticeable omission was the lack of an auto dimming rear view mirror 😂

Love these cars. I got driven round the Monteblanco circuit in an XFR when they were first launched. Great experience! I also got driven round the empty car park in a 1955 D-type but that's another story. Would love to own one of these but they're much more expensive here in Spain.
A used Jaguar can make an excellent, cheap purchase. You just have to (a) find a good well-looked-after one (b) have a Jaguar specialist on speed dial just in case. You might buy an old Jag for beer money, but it takes a champagne budget to keep them in tip top condition. Much as I hated that paint job, you did the right thing not fixing it and keeping costs low. Grand job!
I remember when one of these was outside my work place. Looked very smart and I was impressed right up until they fired up the 2.2 diesel. Sounded like a transit. Actually that's unfair on the poor van. My grandad had the 3.0 tdi and that was sweet. But the 2.2 is very noisy from outside. Stealthy it is not. Makes more sense in a Freelander. That said at that price it is probably a more sound bet than the ingenium replacement. Probably sold because it's not UleZ compliant
I have the same 2.2 diesel engine in my mondeo, it’s done 50k miles in nearly 3 years of my ownership and never left me stranded. My mother in law has a 2014 XF 3.0 TDV6 and from what I can that’s been a fantastic car too, towed a caravan to the south of France and back multiple times with no issue. Unfortunately just had a few of the common issues - door latches and also the notorious gear selector not selecting which was quite a pricey repair.
Actually they did make XF 2.0d with manual... recently found one in most perfect spec, black R Sport on double 5 spokes, big navi screen... but owner said engine sounds rough... Such a beautiful car.
In fact Matt, its fair to say that after buffing out that panel, not only would you have arms like Popeye but... you'd have a wondergrip.. 😂 Ooh Matron
I'm always curious why car dealers comment what a good sign it is that the front & rear number plates are matching originals from the supplying dealer, and then promptly change them for new ones for retail! We the customers would rather like the original dealer ones too as we agree it's a good sign.
Smaller wheels with higher profile tyres could be an advantage these days, considering the state of Britains roads. After driving all over our green and pleasant land this week, I found myself wondering every time I sank into another hole, how some massive alloys on ultra low profile tyres would survive this constant battering. Fortunately, I was in my Crafter van with steel wheels.

Love the vids. Back in March 2019 I bought a CLK 320, 52K on the clock, one owner. Nice, but only one key. After a few weeks I thought that I had better get another made, just in case. So, booked it into a place to have one made. I think that it was going to cost me £150. Then, unbelievably, the day before I was due to take the car in I got an email from the previous owner. "Hi. Just come across the other key. What's your address so I can send it?" I NEVER have luck like that. Normally, I'd have had the 2nd key made and THEN got that email! Still got the car, just clicked around into the 64 Ks. LG.
Very nicely done number plates - just the way to put the screws through the black numbers and fitted black caps.. It definitely is a very inexpensive big improvement.. Despite the fact you sold it internally it was definitely the best way to go by only doing the bare bones... You could have lost your shirt fixing everything with a dubious chance of any profit...
See, when I see fresh plates, my first thought is - "Accident damaged?" I prefer old rusty screws and a ratty plate - means the front or rear end's not been "worked on" at an accident repairer. One of my best complaints (I work in car insurance) was caused by an accident repairer who had fitted their own branded plates. "And now everyone will know its been in a crash!" complained the insured...
the 1st owner being a rep would make sense, i'm sure at the time company car tax was based on the basic vehicle price so often company cars would be entry level but have a load of options added on and you wouldnt pay anymore on car BIK

Keep an eye on the subframes and sills and it'll keep you right. Lovely cars. Wish I never traded mine in for the new XF x260.
Same 126k on mine 2013 2.2 R sport had it since 30k , new fuel rail in warranty, had to have Egr and cooler (cost 800.00 just for parts)as it kept cutting out. just had Timing belt done. We Thief any car offered me 2k, with 2.5k trade in on an 19 plate E class at a fairly local garage, still cant let it go so cheap. . I cant really be bothered selling it now for so little.
The 2.2 Ford/JLR/ Psa is an agricultural engine but bulletproof & knocks spots off the Ingenium
Yep put in transit the 2.2 duratorq is bombproof. 😅
@@garywinterbottom6073 Not the same engine, The X-type has the transit engine.
The hilarious thing is mine is a portfolio XFS and it doesn’t have front sensors or a reverse camera but has adaptive cruise…
So that spec you have there has more options fitted!
I remember first seeing the pre-facelift with the less angry eyes in 2009 on top gear and was really impressed
Thanks for the video. Looks like a great option for your colleague looking for an all but disposable car with great comfort in the meantime.

How many action men you got then mate??lol
Amazing car for the money, even though it was parked in bay 13. I first thought that sign on the grass verge said "Please park Matt's "I've massively overspent" vehicles here.
My father has owned a 2013 2.2 luxury since new, over 200.000 kms now and it's been very reliable ever since!!
Matt & self control equals a result! Good video showing the true value that can be found in these old Jags.😎😊
Love this episode Matt. Smoothly exposing how one can get into a gorgeously designed British luxury car for similar money to the simplest Tuc-Tuc from the otherwise low-end junk out there 😉 (which is well covered).
Keep dropping these think-out-loud narration videos Matt!
Super useful in the arena of car-buying and money management for the most of us!! 👌🏽🌟💫
NPL - I would assume is 'Number Plate Light'.....Nice car for the money, glad you found a good home for it.
There are companies out there that make a very good living just rebuilding those 3 litre V6 diesels. The list of faults that cause catastrophic engine failure on those things is very long indeed! The 2.2 is the better choice. It might be gruff, but its solid.
Nothing wrong with the 3L if it's serviced property. The 2.2 just doesn't look or sound right with one exhaust.
@@AWMJoeyjoejoe What about the petrol engines, any good?
As my son in law found out to his cost, there is no such thing as a cheap Jaguar. The repair bills and parts bills were eye watering.
If its cheap it is for a reason, same as for any car.
I love the Facelift XF. very snazzy and you can look rich for cheap!
Love the interior wood trim, great engine and good run around for somebofy with a really good spec.
Great video and worm as alway Matt! :D
The 2.2d is the best engine to have. By far most reliable. Same engine as is freelander 2
3l are capable of over 200k if properly serviced.
crazy watching these Jag and Range rover vids because Mats like the Jag oracle 😂
Hi Matt
I run a 2008 2.7 D Lux premium in Ireland. Paid €5000 last August
230,000 klm. Green ,light interior. Every extra. It amazes me every time I drive it. Passed our Nct test last month with no issues. Live in Poland now and drive 2016 Jeep Grand cherokee there. Sold my BMW 6 GT 3.0.D before moving.
Love these cars. I got driven round the Monteblanco circuit in an XFR when they were first launched. Great experience! I also got driven round the empty car park in a 1955 D-type but that's another story. Would love to own one of these but they're much more expensive here in Spain.
Mat your optimism and outlook is to be applauded keep smiling 😂😂
Still needs that chrome trim on the O/S lower vent at the front.
Always get cambelts done when required as you rightly said £450 or new engine had one go on my car cost me£££
"alright guys, how's it going?, welcome baack" is how I greet everyone these days
I can't believe your "Werthers Original" XF video is now 5 years old Matt! Where has the time gone?? 🤷🏼♂️
Haha I know. Crazy. It’s hit 1M views too
Well done Steve keep up the great work and happy driving fella
My son's got the 2012 2.2d facelift model in Portfolio spec, it's an absolute beast and the best motorway cruiser I've been in.
They are fantastic cars totally underated
A used Jaguar can make an excellent, cheap purchase. You just have to (a) find a good well-looked-after one (b) have a Jaguar specialist on speed dial just in case. You might buy an old Jag for beer money, but it takes a champagne budget to keep them in tip top condition. Much as I hated that paint job, you did the right thing not fixing it and keeping costs low. Grand job!
No views yet, I got you Matt, keep up the good work👍🏾
I remember when one of these was outside my work place.
Cam belt change quite a dear job at £450 got a focus eco boost cost me £1300 last year for the same job
Check the rear subframe for rust before buying an XF. Jaguar used no protective coating on them.
It is amazing but the new plates do lift it. Just done mine and it made a huge difference! Nice vid, Matt. Thanks 😀
Ooh Matron
I'm always curious why car dealers comment what a good sign it is that the front & rear number plates are matching originals from the supplying dealer, and then promptly change them for new ones for retail! We the customers would rather like the original dealer ones too as we agree it's a good sign.
Top tip, the 2.2 isn’t in the non facelift, as far as I’m aware anyway as we own one and when we were looking I never saw a 2.2 non facelift
Definitely a good egg Matt and so say all of us!!
"a tic tack, 20 pence piece and a wood screw" - sounds like the middle isle of Lidl....!!!
I just hope that he gets the cam belt done and give the old girl a chance.
The problem with all the switches was that they had a soft touch coating that over time degrades and just turns to goop, WD40 removes it no problem
I’m buying a Jaguar XF S 3.0 x260 atm it has 15,7k extra options on it and it’s for sale for 16k! Basically only paying for the options would of been over 65k new without adjusting for inflation
Interested to see what your getting I'm also buying XF S x260 not sure on the cost of the extras but I'm getting the bigger screen, sunroof and heated wheel.
'GOOD EGG???? Since I was lured to your rich and continuous dose of unconditionally shared knowledge about enjoying work, appreciating language, maintainance of necessary and topic related decorum without unfair and 'exclusive' etiquette, and last but not least,--basic personal hygiene, I've hardly slept a fucking wink and my eyes are going square. Thankyou and well done my well travelled friend.!!
What's your address so I can send it?"
I NEVER have luck like that.
My first thought was "Original dealer plates both ends means no impact damage"
You really love Jaguar 💯
5:31 previous owner of my dads ford fiesta did the exact thing on the rear bumper
the 1st owner being a rep would make sense, i'm sure at the time company car tax was based on the basic vehicle price so often company cars would be entry level but have a load of options added on and you wouldnt pay anymore on car BIK
Can we have a walk around and should I buy vid of the Wonder Grip van please.
Jag didn’t produce the 2.2 diesel in the pre facelift model. I have a 2010 60 plate 3 litre V6 petrol which is a great engine as you know. Always like your videos.
I hate those air fresheners dangling from the rear view mirror too. Does my head in, a cluttered car. 🙈👍🏻😂
One good thing, the ☀️was out and no ☔️very rare for U.K. these days, lot of car for the money.!!!!
You’ve been practicing haven’t you , “ describing the sticky centre console & do you replace the whole unit “ then you say where do you start / stop as your finger is poised above the ( start & stop ) button lol. Yes I notice little details
Just guessing from my past car industry career, this car might have been built in 2011 but if it was built late in the year, it would be a 2012 Model Year. Hence the facelift features.
Yep, I jumped the gun and wrote this before the carvertical report came in.
Another great video. I live on the other side of the planet and I have reduced the number of car channels to a handful - HPA is a fav. And you're a 'good egg' ... if a bit scrambled. 😎
Hi matt what a lot of car for little money and that engine was also put in the transit and mondeo looks great after your magic I would definitely get that chrome corner bit put on which I think will finish it off great video hope you are well best wishes ian.
I'd very happily use that as daily. I'd even leave the paint and minor bits and bobs that want doing.
Nice job Matt , money back and a happy employee , win /win 😊
Wow, ......i just realised what a great business person you are , .....that wonder grip must be paying you for advertising 😮😂
Great video HPA, nice car, love your sarcasm matt😂, always a pleasure to watch 😀👍👌
Worth your mate spending a few bob to sort minor issues,we all know diesel engines will go on forever if shown some love.
The missing chrome trim in the front actually looks good. So I'd simply remove the other one as well, and you probably wouldn't even notice something's missing.
I do love that a drive by shot of the garage always make it in at some point 😂
