The reason we say this is because most people would go out and buy a Mercedes, BMW or an Audi. But be different! To appreciate this 3.0 V6 twin turbo diesel that Jaguar offers you really need to go and drive one. With heated and cooled seats, automatic everything along with striking looks it really is the complete package. Jaguar weren't pulling any punches with the XF R-S also available to compete with the German equivalents like the BMW M5, Mercedes E63 and the Audi RS6.
But this diesel model comes with 275bhp and 600nm of torque from the factory and boasting a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds, that's as quick as a MK2 Ford Focus RS!!!!!!

Owning a Jag is kind of like joining a somewhat secret club - having owned a new 2019 XF and also an older S Type, I struggle to understand why anybody would own anything else. Bang for buck is just absolutely through the roof, interior quality and feel is better than anything in the same class and the drive is plenty good enough to have some fun

Lots of clubs to join too. I'm in the jaguar Shropshire owners club, love all the meets. We have two jags. One of them is my 2019 f'type SVR and it's my forever car.
On The other hand,me as a BMW owner I feel sad for anyone who's bought a Jag. We can understand some of you guys got tempted by the looks and some extra covered in leather bits and pieces,but frankly,it's just another Ford Mondeo. Yes, it's got the looks,yes,it's got the leather,but yes,it's got the Ford too! And for that reason only,ain't even taking it for free. I know my BMW is made by BMW,not owned by GM,Tata, Chrysler,or God forbid Ford. Never been and never will. Solid as a rock,nimble,with subtle menace in every detail it's the top dog here. And the resale value of that Ford will be at least 20% less than even basic F10 in 5 years.
@eleonik76 They've not been related to ford for years and even when they were, the component sharing was fairly minimal in all. Even the X Type, the most Mondeo esque is only something like 17 percent ford. The XF in the video wasn't remotely Ford.
@@hermand yes, I am aware of that. Mentioned it as an overall. Now they are owned by TATA and that by no means rings the premium bell to me, regardless of the beautiful design. For the same reasons I would never buy an Audi,cause I find the same switches and details in VW Polo. If even 0.001% from one car is made by Ford,it's a full stop and no for me. A premium brand should stand for its name and heritage. For the same reason I was Saab fan for years and turned my back on them for their GM affair. You either drive Jaguar made by Jaguar or look elsewhere. In Finland you can find early XF 2013/2014 for under 3k. Same price as a E46 318. which comes to show their true value.

I moved from Ireland to Poland recently and sold my two year old bmw 630 GT.
Needed to keep something in Ireland and got a 2008 top spec xf 2.7 Diesel. One owner and folders of paper work. Has 220,000 klm on her. British racing green and light interior. All for €5000 ......
Recently did 3,000 klm in a week. And am stunned by the way it drives, looks and the kit.(keyless)
Having owned 50 cars since 1999 all German. Can say jaaaaag all the way from now.
I also have a 2008 XF 2.7D but just the Luxury model, also one owner and looked after. It's just a beautiful drive, the auto box change is so smooth, the V6 is smooth, even for the basic model it is packed with luxury features.
A £40k car in 2008 cost me £5k in 2023.
Great review guys and agree with your opinions! I bought my first Jaguar a one owner XF 3.0D premium luxury 64 plate with 72k miles 12 months ago after previously owned a wide variety of German badged cars. The 3.0 V6 diesel is definitely the one to go for having test driven the 2.2 which I found to be much noisier and gutless by comparison. It is a joy to drive with great smooth power delivery and excellent fuel economy (46mpg). No problems so far and just had a full service done at a recommended independent garage for £200.

I OWN AN XF 3.0 PETROL AND TEST DROVE ONE OF THE SUPERCHARGHED PETROL MODELS A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK - SUPERB.
Just bought the same car in white - full dealer service history, two owners 40k miles. The car is outstanding - would highly recommend a look to anyone thinking about it.
These cars have an 8 speed ZF gearbox. No dual clutch. The ZF gearbox is an excellent gearbox, also used in BMWs.
2013 bmw 530d 0-60 was 6 secs, later models can go quicker. The 2016 XF with 300bhp goes even faster again.
Love my XF-S, another league up from my previous M Sport 3 Series, and it's the most reliable car i've had in 23 years. Needless to say 'll be getting another Jag 😍

Here goes as a multiple Jag owner the only Jag that was technically a Mondeo with a different body was in fact The X Type Jag S-Types had Ford parts but was more Jag than Ford, the XF is basically an S-Type updated.
Great review guys. I have a 2015 2.2D Sportbrake, 200bhp, and I love it. It is such a good car, a joy to drive and is great on a long run, giving me 55mpg plus. I have had a couple of BMW's in the past but I have always loved Jags and this is by far the best car I have owned.
200BHP is a lot on a modern diesel I find, and the torque tops the bhp!
The Jag really did surprise us, and with 55MPG what more could you ask for!

THE XF WAS NEVER BASED ON A MONDEO. YOUR CONFUSING IT WITH THE X TYPE.
I'm 27, I bought my XF-S pre-lift two years ago and I love it. I am not letting it go anytime soon. Hopefully will keep it as long as possible.

Thank you for providing all this useful info and helping in making my mind up after 2 months of relentless online search, comparison and going through countless UA-cam videos 🙈. After rigorous search and out of shortlisted options which consisted of Mercedes E class, BMW 5 series and AUDI A6 & A7 I’ve finally bought my first Jaguar XF S 3.0 Diesel portfolio fully loaded with mere 36k on the clock and FSH. BMW 5 series (530d) was very close but once I test drove the XFS I was blown away!! Thanks again for posting such a great review 👊🏼

Interesting, we went down the same road. I wanted another 4 door coupe or saloon after owning a Passat Cc. I consider the A6 and A7 got very put off the DSG box specially if the car had been remapped. So focused on the merc E or CLS and the BMW 5 or 6 series grand coupe. The Mercedes I liked but I found the steering wheel or peddles didn’t seem central like the driving position was twisted. The BMW’s were the better handling cars. Then I test drove the a XFS and was blown away by the car and the value for money. The equivalent Mercedes or BMW asking prices where another 3-5k. I pick up my 2014 XFS with Full jag history, tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
@@trustinflames1022 trust me, you’ll love it! Couple of things to check when taking the delivery …make sure there’s no batter low warning message before you fire the ignition …it’ll pop up on the infotainment display screen and reason for this would be low battery charge or it probably needs replacement. Usually issue with the smaller battery as I believe all XFS from this era have two in the boot so get both checked. Another quick fix I’ve found in my online search is to disconnect the battery for like 10 min which tends to fix this. It’s worth asking the seller if that happens since I’m assuming you’ll get some warranty so they should look into to. Happened with mine so I got a bit paranoid but luckily nothing major but still needs to get fixed. Hopefully won’t happen with yours 🤞. Apart from that car drives like a dream!
Ive just bought a 2014 xf 2.2l only 53,000 miles on the clock. I pick it up next week, cant wait.

I own a black edition premium luxury stage 1 mapped Jag pushing 410 bhp and 790 torque, this thing is wild and soft at same time.. this has no comparison and I absolutely love it
Early 2.7’s used the ZF 6 speed torque converter auto box. The model you tested has the ZF 8 speed updated ‘box so commonly used in a huge number of cars including most Beemers. Jag has never used a DCT auto to my knowledge.

Nice, fair and balanced video, I'm currently looking for one of these and comparing them (or the Portfolio) to a 3.0d X3 or a 3.0d X5, very difficult to make a decision. Every video I watch on the XF's doesn't really help because there isn't very much negativity about them, a few problems, but X3's and X5's also have niggles. Very difficult, these Jags are seriously underrated, though.
Thank you. The X3/X5 are a lot different to the XF, so that's a tricky one. I can only talk from experience with the Jaguar as my father has owned 2 of them. I have heard some horror stories but in his ownership he had no major problems, just wear and tear as you would expect. Same with anything, maintenance is key. He also owned a 2006 BMW X5 a few years back. And he definitely had more issues with that.

i'm on my second XF now. The first was a mk1 Diesel 3.0. Performance was insane and went round corners as if on rails. However, it was a "rude awakening" to the "joys" of owning a Jag. It did have a lot of niggles, the headlights always blew., window regulators went, door handles stuck, the interior rattled, and the turbo actuator went. After 3 years of ownership I finally had every issue fixed save for crackly speaker. I decided to give the dash a clean to celebrate having all but one issue and ....my hand went through the front dash mounted speaker. A $350 NZ part !! After 3 years of ownership I never had a period where there wasn't something wrong with it ! And those were the issues I can remember ! Thankfully all these niggles were covered by the dealer's warranty. When it came to the cam belt replacement at 150,000 kms it was time to make a decision to stick with this car or trade it in for another car. Given it needed four new tyres too I decided to trade it in. Much as I loved the mk1, it was quite heavy to drive around town, the brakes were very touchy and made my foot ache in stop-go traffic. So I decided to trade it on for facelift 3.0 petrol , The facelift drives MUCH lighter, the steering, brakes and gearbox are much improved. The seats are more comfortable. However, I don't like the low profile tyres on the new one and I prefer the "swiss watch dashboard" of the mk1. The faceilift is a dull black and the interior blue lighting doesn't look as "vodka bar" as it does on the original car somehow. The "niggles" have followed me with this car. The battery went after 6 months, the door locks stuck, one window regulator went. The speedo LED went. After a year it broke down. Thinking something was seriously wrong with the engine I got it towed to the dealer with a free AA tow. The diagnosis was a faulty spark plug!! All things considered., I think the "niggles" are worth it. ! Once you accept that this isn't a Toyota Corolla, they are great cars !

I am currently on my second XF, a 2016 3 litre petrol supercharged. My first XF was a 3 litre diesel.
I've had better reliability than you, very little has gone wrong and nothing terminal thankfully.
2016 model has far superior handling and, of course, the instant kick of a supercharger when you need it. Superb.

Those 18way seats in London Tan color are the most beautiful / Sporty & comfortable seats I ever felt on a car! So rare to find in that color! ;)
It's the torque.. Get to 60 and it just keeps on accelerating at the same rate. Face-lift is a must due yo the 8 speed. I have a portfolio 2012. What a car.
Got a 61 plate Portfolio 3.0s with 80k miles - such a good car and much much better than my old 06 plate 535d - looks, stereo, no irritating i drive menu, seats, ride quality, steering, paddle shift as standard.... Goes like soas, a £100 tuning box gives a bit more, 40mpg av., what more can you ask for £7k??? Can't yet comment on reliability as only had for 6 months, but a much better driving experience. Absolutely love it.

the mk1 XF is amazing, my grandad had one which he put 300k miles on before the gearbox died, so much for jags being unreliable. I loved driving in it, I currently drive a 2.0 Mondeo titanium x and I plan to buy an XF as my next car.
My Dad also owned the pre face lift prior to this one. They are very underrated cars. I now daily a Mondeo ST TDCi.

These cars are gorgeous my brother used to have a 2013 2.2 litre diesel 200bhp. For some reason the engine felt laggy compared to his Audi a6 2 litre diesel 140bhp 2009 model that just just moved from. Not long after he moved to a 2015 Audi a6 2 litre diesel he loves it and has had it a few years now
I pick mine up on Friday. Can’t wait.

Nice review. And from personal experience ....and this is not what is generally expected. The Jag is certainly more reliable. Modern BMWs fall of a cliff when they come out of warrenty.

I have owned 4 BMWs, great cars all of them. But I traded in my last BMW 330Ci for a pre-facelift Jaguar XF 3.0d Premium Luxury and never looked back since. Ran that car for 5 glorious, reliable years. Never gave me any mechanical problems. Look after these cars well, drive them properly and they are so rewarding. Superb to drive, so comfortable to sit in and yet fun on the twisty bits. Especially in Dynamic and Sport 🙂
Oh and the gearbox is the 8 speed ZF automatic, same as used by BMW. Not a dual clutch. But interesting you would think from the performance and smoothness that it was a dual clutch.
I am now on my second Jaguar XF, a 2016 S model with the supercharged engine. WOW. 5.1 seconds 0-100 km/h. You would love it, guys. I don't name my cars, but I call this one Dr. Jekyll for obvious reasons when you are cruising sedately along in comfort and then decide to bury the loud pedal. 😀
Thank you for the comment. Sorry for the delayed reply, I have only just noticed your comment. Theres just more character with the Jag. BM's are great and both me and Drew love them, but the Jag is superb. The gearbox is seamless, hence we thought it felt like a dual clutch.

XF Supercharged is in another league, with no turbo lag, instant oomph and laugh-out-loud performance on twisty country roads.

I bought a facelift XF R-Sport 2.2 Diesel and I absolutely love it. Overall mpg is 43, 50+ on a motorway trip with town driving at each end. It's such a nice place to sit and very comfortable too.
The car you drive says a lot about you- drivers of German cars have a bad reputation, which I must say is justified, but when you drive a Jaaag, you're known as being an awfully nice chap though sometimes slightly dodgy, which I am!

You are absolutely right! Your car says a lot about you as a person. I don't deny that German cars are not good (they are very good in fact!) But are always the safe option.

@@accelerateyoutube I drove my last BMW (a 330Ci) as if I was a Jaguar driver, you should have seen the looks of shock on people's faces when I indicated, gave way to them and generally acted courteously.
JayEmm did a hilarious review on a Jaguar when he said how his Dad loved his, but hated driving his Mum's BMW because nobody would let him out of his driveway onto the main road beside his house. Whereas with the Jaagg, he got let out very quickly! True, people do have different perceptions of you depending on the car you drive. Another reason to love the Jaguar.
@@R04drunner1 I own both: a 2013 XF saloon/sedan and a 2008 6 Series coupé. I have experienced the same: people are respectful when I drive my Jaguar whereas in my BMW hate comes towards me 😊😕.

Gents did you chip /ecu this car what were the dyno results and would you recommend the DrakeBox one?
Recently sold a 13 reg portfolio specced 3.0D S. 20” wheels with remap. Only had 50k miles on the clock, full service history and bought showroom condition. White leather interior, imperial blue paint, piano black interior. Just a lovely lovely thing and bloomin quick at the lights. I can seriously recommend them. There are plenty around at the moment and its worth spending an extra 1000k for a properly looked after car. Warranties can be found for about £350 a year and you can push them to 45 mpg communting. Similar performance to a 2016 plate XE supercharged I owned last year. The only other car I’ve owned nicer than this is a Maserati Quattroporte DF 4.7 S.

@@accelerateyoutube Had the remap done by a local guy in York with a very positive reputation. Pushes the car a little over 300bhp. You notice it but not massively. Holds onto the rev range a little longer in low gear. Didn’t test draggy, but felt very similar to a TTS Quattro TFSI I’ve had in the past. I’d say a shade over 5 secs 0-62. Except a much bigger car! The XES is a bit more spontaneous from nothing. You really notice the Supercharger on a big car. Can’t fault Jag and in the post 11 plate guise represent outstanding value, especially in Portfolio trim.
i have a 2012 XF V8, a superb underrated car. No squeaks or rattles, comfortable, great ride, and never had an issue with reflections off the chrome. Awesome sound track, agree some of the buttons could have been better (a bit rubbery). The infotainment is a bit slow but livable. Its a ZF 6-speed auto (not a double clutch) that is smooth as silk and bullet proof. Reliability wise i've never had an issue in the 2.5+ years i've had it, you just have to make sure the servicing is done on time and not on the cheap. It does wear discs but that's because she is a big beast and that V8 is a heavy lump, but nothing too drastic. Friends with BMWs, Audi's and Merc's have had higher running costs and more issues with their over complicated electrics etc.. Value for money can't be beaten, and even though its 11 years old still looks modern and stylish. the 2011 to 2015 models seem to be the better ones to get, after the 2015 facelift they went cheap (except the XFR)
I've had 4 Jaguar XF's now and in my opinion, the V6 diesels are junk. 2 of my XF's were the 3.0 V6 diesels, 1 of which was an S like the car you have reviewed. The others were a 2.7 V6 diesel and a my current car is the 3.0 V6 petrol. My S model snapped its crank at 78,000 miles and the 2.7 refused to start in winter. No Jaguar specialist could fix it and has now been parted out. The problem with the V6 diesel is a narrow crankshaft and failed DPF regens. 3 Specialists have told me the same. Short journeys result in failed regens which then dilutes the engine oil with diesel and causes wear on the crank. It also doesn't help that many garages that don't know the engine will fill it oil capacity to max, leaving no room for oil dilution. The other problem if I remember correctly, which can occur, is that the crank shell can spin in its housing and block the oil channels, starving the oil flow. This isn't just a Jaguar problem, it happens to the Peugeots and Citroens that have the engine fitted as well. The only diesel I would go with now is the 2.2 Transit engine that can be found in the facelift XF. Also you will find a lot of younger people in the XF including myself. I'm 25 now but my first Jaguar (S Type) was purchased by myself at 19.

The car has dynamic dampers, you will see an electric cable going into the dampers. That is why it drives well.
you have to activate dynamic mode to not let the car override your gear choice

I’m looking for a car right now and was considering buying a 2016 3.0 v6 tdi A5 or a 2017 530d but now I’m going to test drive one of this it looks like a no brainer just not sure about how reliable they are?
This is the same platform as the S type and that wasn’t a mondeo either. X-type was based on the mondeo eucd platform. This has the Jaguar developed DEW98 platform also used by ford in the Lincoln LS. Best handling Ford 😜

I have a XF 2015 Sport love the car but has so many problems. The Y tube needs to be replaced as soon as you get the car they made a manufacturing error on it you can take it to any jaguar shop say Y tube and they will instantly know.
Great video. I have a blue 2011 one. It's the best car I've owned. Fantastic performance with loads of pull from 2000 revs. The only problem is one of the intake manifolds has cracked and it will cost £1,300 to replace. It's an all day job at a specialist.

I had a 2008 BMW 320D M Sport before my current 2013 Jaguar XF S Portfolio and I loved the BMW, I'm still a BMW fanboy but the Jag beats it in every way. My insurance even went down?!?!
Like you said, I found an equivalent 5 series around £3/4k more expensive and that's why I looked at the Jag.
In 19 months of owning it, it needed an alternator, front suspension bushes and some brake disks, so no reliability problems either.
Put it in Sport and Dynamic mode and the whole character of the car changes and it's wild.
It's a shame more people dont venture from the Germans as Jaguar deserves to be successful yet it's failing.
Another not like with them, you can get a stiff neck constantly looking back at it once you've parked up 😂.

Some readers may be familiar with my post on this, if so please feel free to skip past...
SPORT & DYNAMIC MODES ON XF
For a sportier driving experience, you can use Dynamic driving mode and/or Sport transmission mode. These do not add to engine power but they do make that power more easily accessible. However, they bring reduced comfort, reduced economy and reduced safety margins. It is the choice of the driver whether or not to use these.
HOW DO YOU SELECT OR DESELECT THESE MODES?
You can select or deselect Dynamic mode while moving or stationary. On the model X250 (2007-2015) press the chequered flag button behind the transmission selector. On the X260 (2015-) select the leftmost driving mode by pressing the < button on the centre console. Press the > button on the centre console to deselect Dynamic mode.
The S option on the transmission selector is Sport mode which you can select or deselect while moving or while stationary. On cars with the hockey-puck style rotary transmission selector, S is selected from D (Drive) by pressing down on the control and simultaneously twisting the control clockwise. This is a safety lock so drivers don't accidentally select Sport mode. In the vast majority of driving scenarios, standard Drive is perfectly fine and more comfortable. To deselect Sport mode, simply rotate the transmission selector one notch anti-clockwise. There is no need to press down or lift up on the selector - it will raise itself.
The interaction between Dynamic and Sport modes is best explained by telling you what each does.
S (SPORT) MODE:
Sport mode on the gearbox activates kickdown more readily. That means the gearbox goes a couple of ratios lower (more or less: precise number depends on road speed). The engine management rev matches to the road speed and gear selected, so engine revs increase. That gives less turbo lag on turbo cars and avoids kickdown delay: the car will accelerate far faster when you press the gas pedal. This is great for overtaking. It also gives better controllability going round corners, for example, where a light touch on the accelerator helps keep the car balanced.
Sport mode can also be useful if you are about to go up a steep hill. The early drop into a lower gear means you can more easily maintain momentum and it is less likely the car will need to do a downchange while on the hill, where gravity will slow the car down while drive is disengaged.
Sport mode also gives you more engine braking, so when I am going down a hill sometimes I will put the transmission into S. In the lower gear ratio, the car holds its speed more easily and I don't have to ride the brakes.
The downside is, higher revs mean a noisier car and also fuel consumption rises. (Unless your foot is off the gas pedal, as when going downhill, in which case the engine management system shuts off fuel anyway.)
It is worth mentioning FLAPPY PADDLES too, as the car's behaviour is slightly different depending on whether the transmission selector is in D (Drive) or S (Sport). You engage flappy paddle mode by simply tugging on one of the paddles mounted on the steering column, either the + on the right hand side to go up a gear, or the - on the left hand side to go down a gear. The gearbox will shift up or down as you have requested and the gear mode indicator in the instrument panel will change, from D (Drive) or S (Sport), to show the gear you are in. In Sport, you get a big display of that gear and the display will change colour when it's time to change up.
Once you use a flappy paddle, the gearbox will register that you wish to manually control the gears and will await further input from the flappy paddles. Unlike in a manual gearbox, you don't need to lift your foot off the accelerator to change gears using the flappy paddles, but you will find changes are smoother if you are not pressing too hard on the accelerator at the time you request the gear change. Practice makes proficient!
Some XFs are configured by the driver's setting to only allow flappy paddles in S (Sport) mode. If you want to change that, tweak the setting to allow the use of flappy paddles in D (Drive) mode.
While in flappy paddle mode, some behaviour is still under automatic control. The gearbox will not allow you to change to too low a gear, so engine revs will not exceed the limit. On the other hand, the gearbox will downshift itself if you slow down significantly. For example, if you slow down for a STOP sign at a junction, the gearbox will go down to second gear. The gearbox will also automatically up shift when you hit the rev limit - unless you are have both Sport and Dynamic active, in which case the gearbox will not upshift and the car will sit on the rev limiter until the driver lifts off the accelerator or manually selects a higher gear.
If the transmission is in D, the gearbox will revert to D after a while if you haven't used a paddle. If the transmission is in Sport, the flappy paddle mode will continue until you deactivate it.
You can deactivate the paddle mode either by a long pull on the up shift (right hand +) paddle for about 2 seconds or by moving the gear selector from S to D (D to S just keeps paddle mode on).
DYNAMIC MODE:
Dynamic mode does lots of things.
1. It remaps the throttle. A given press on the pedal will give you more torque more quickly.
2. It speeds up gear changes. Changes will be less smooth, but a quicker gear change aids speed.
3. If you are using the flappy paddles and in Sport, Dynamic Mode will prevent the automatic upshift when you reach the rev limit.
4. Dynamic mode dials back the DSC so you still get some safety but you are given more latitude before the DSC steps in.
5. On cars with active suspension (including but not limited to the X250 XFR and the X260 XF S) the suspension firms up, giving you a less comfortable ride but better handling. If you are not sure whether your car has active suspension or not, pop the hood and look at the top of the suspension. If there are wires going to it, then your car has active suspension. You can also check the TOPIX report on your car, which will detail the features fitted to your car. A Jaguar dealership can call this information up if given the car's VIN. The VIN can be obtained from a plaque at the bottom of the windscreen.
6. On cars with electronic steering (X260) the steering will also firm up, giving you a more sporty steering setup (for faster turn in etc).
7. On some cars (X260) choosing Dynamic Mode will make the lighting on the dashboard dials turn red. This has zero effect on performance, so I only mention it for completeness.
8. To complicate matters: on cars with Configurable Dynamics (like my X260 XF S) once the driver has pressed the Dynamic Mode button, he or she can tweak the settings. You can choose to have dynamic or normal mode enabled on throttle, steering, gear shifts and/or suspension. Factory default is to enable dynamic mode on all of them but you might, for example, want to keep a more comfortable ride and so you could program the active suspension to remain in normal mode when Dynamic is pressed. Your settings are remembered until you change them.
A combination of both S (Sport) mode on transmission and Dynamic Mode on the JaguarDrive controls (the chequered flag button) can be dramatic!
DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME, KIDS
For the full monty "Oh look, I am going backwards into this hedge" experience, as well as selecting Dynamic and Sport modes, press and hold down the DSC button for a few seconds. (In X250 it's 10 seconds, in X260 it's 5 seconds.) That will turn off ALL driver stability aids apart from ABS. With no DSC, there is nothing to prevent the car from slipping sideways except your own skill. Ensure you only try this when driving in safe circumstances, such as on a dry track with plenty of run off areas. These cars have a LOT of power and can really catch out the unwary!
I have the sportbrake version in portfolio trim and the 0-60mph even though stated at something like 6.3 for the estate i can confirm with the right tyres (Pilot sports) it gets to 60 in 5.5 seconds we repeated this test on the flattest road we could find about 4 times the worst we got was 5.9 seconds but the average was 5.5 secoonds. It is also NOT mapped this has also been checked.
how is the reliability on this model
Mine has been very reliable.
However if you try and run it on a shoe string budget you are risking it. The service schedule is a load of rubbish 12k or 12 months is too much, doing oil services every 6k or 6 months is far better, you’d have no issues going to 200k miles.
They can have some minor issues like the rotating vents can break usually a little clutch that snaps really really easy DIY. The headlamp washer pump is known to leak again very straightforward DIY repair also brake judder can be an issue it’s usually the slide pins in the brake callipers that causes this again quite a simply fix and won’t break the bank at all but this is like every car of it’s type little things will go wrong.
These cars can also be unreliable due to how they’re driven I daily drive mine 54 miles a day and drive it very carefully never let it past 2.3k RPM and then on occasions you drive a little enthusiastically to really appreciate what you’ve got but I never ever go near the redline just isn’t necessary.
Also going back to oil changes it’s really simple and easy to do on these costs about £65 for oil and filter so nothing really.
To sum up treat it with care and respect and when it’s cold give it plenty of time to warm up and it shouldn’t let you down, these engines are sensitive to routine maintenance as long as this is followed I guarantee you won’t have an issue.
FYI DIY oil changes are so easy and the oil and filter is only £65.
Sorry to ramble a little, I’ve just seen how some people treat cars like these including BMW’s and when they go wrong they immediately blame the car for being unreliable!
One major issue with the 3.0D is that it's not Euro 6 compliant. You can find a 530D of similar vintage that IS, so can go into Bristol and other ULEZ zones without paying the charge. Sadly that would be a deal breaker for me.
The X351 does offer EU6 engines, but they are nowhere near as well built as the X350. An F10/F11 5 series with EU6 would be a better buy and similar money.
They are such a pretty car! And so nice on the inside. For a long time I wanted the 3.0 V6 diesel but unfortunately a few close friends of mine had catastophic engine failures (both times bottom end/crank failure) on their's and it put me off!
Ah now that's interesting! We were hoping people would comment with their experiences with the XF.

8 Speed ZF automatic transmission. Not a duel clutch.
Using a leather conditioner will help minimise your squeaky leather seats (also if you use it on your (also leather) dash it will help minimise the risk of the leather separating and curling if left parked in the sun. I use renapur (other brands are available).
That's a very good point, didn't think of that!

More beautiful and you can not find it on each corner like an bmw. British and italian cars have style and are cars for individuallists.
Realistically this is more on par on paper at least with the 535d, twin turbo 3 litre. I had my 535d mapped and the box mapped and it ended up with 380bhp and 800nm. You would have to do a lot of work to get that power out of these from what I’ve read. I like the look of these though. What are they like reliability wise?
Yes we did state that but we were going on a budget in which the 535d wouldn't fit into. Hence the 530d comparison. This ran over 280bhp on the dyno, which we have done a video. With a remap you would be looking around 330bhp. I think styling wise they look better than the 5 series. Reliability wise, he owned this for over 2 years and had no issues other than maintenance.

That’s my guess for that model/spec, if it is even available here - don’t see too many of the higher end diesels over here either - our fuel isn’t up to scratch!

Is this better than the a5 3.0 tdi quattro. I'm looking at this car ,530d,e350cdi ,a8 3.0tdi quattro. Looking for something that is reliable and strong.
There all have their pros and cons. Best bet is to test drive them to see what you prefer.

Previously, I had cars of various brands and I must say that Jaguar is in a class of its own. I fell in love with this car and I hope it will serve me for a long time🤞

I have a 2012 5.0 V8 naturally aspirated XF, I love this car man. The subtle growl of that V8, and yeah, this car is so cool. Only thing the first owner didn't spec is the electric rear window curtain and the adaptive cruise control... else fully specced

Great cars,i had a 2008 premium luxury 2 7 diesel.nice cars but not really a jaguar style wise in my opinion.i much prefer the s types x types and proper styled xj8s.i actually swapoed it after 5 years and went back to a jaguar x350 super v8.they are just so classy,how a jag should be.i not that old either.52 now,had nothing but jags since i was 27.nothing comes close to them.
I have tried to explain this to many people! I understand companies need to "modernise" the brand etc, but the luxury just doesn't feel like it used to.
I currently own an X Type, and although it's often mocked, it still feels like an old, luxurious Jaaaaaag to me.

How long do they last ?
Looked after, a long time it seems. Mines on 115k, is 12 years old and I’ve just done a 180 mile round trip at 80+, effortless, smoooth and silent. And 45mpg. What’s not to like?

3 minutes in to this video and I’m already wondering where these guys get their facts from. Which 530d has 261bhp? The X-Type jag was based on the Mondeo. Clarkson said the S-Type looked shocked. They do 0-60 in 6.7 seconds. Also, the fairer test would be the 535d as that’s also a twin turbo, but hey, no need to get things right eh? 🤷🏻♂️

The XFS they are driving does 0-60 in 5.9secs. The standard 3.0D XF does 0-60 in 6.7secs.

This is a fair comparison, twin turbo both of them...
yer we know twin turbos but its a diesel in a jag sounds like a ford transit v8 pppppoooowwwweeeerrrr
oh schumacher calm your balls there, not everyon has money to mantain a v8 nor do they have any point in day to day driving lol.
This is exactly what I have just done and put a deposit down on one. No malice towards the BMW 530d as they are excellent and well engineered cars.
But the XFS just has something different that makes it cool.

Absolutely not buy the bmw I bought a bmw 730d its fantastic bought it to replace my old 2010 3.0 xf the jag was a pile off junk cost me over 3k on repairs in 2 years and 7k manifold cracked alternator went water pump failed window rectangular failed x2 also had a coolant leak and a oil leak. NEVER AGAIN BUYING A JAGUAR!!! There scrap lol
Each to their own lol. I am a BMW fan, owned a few M3's as well as other models. We have had 2 Jaguar XF's and they have both been fantastic with no issues. But it all goes on how the cars have been treated. I have had BMW's that have been very problematic. But its the luck of the draw I guess. But value for money with what you get with a Jaguar is fantastic.
