Thank you so much for being a goal oriented channel!! There are very few plant channels that have plenty of content on care, growth, and goals. I’m on a plant ban currently and your content inspires me to nurture my current babies to their best potential 💚
Love your videos and I get so excited to see a new one!

I never made any goals for2022. Never thought of it, never heard of anyone doing it. I won’t be making any goals for 2023 except to keep them alive and thriving. To those only surviving I need to find a way to make them thrive.

    Hey Fern,
I would reroot the Alocasia Blacl Velvet, once it unfurled the new leaf. It doesnt look like it has enough roots.
I had a very full Black Velvet and then one Winter it went dorment and then Never came back. So I unpotted it and noticed most roots where gone. New soil, smaler Pott and Its now taking off again. 👌🏻
Alsocasias are such rooty planst, so if they dont do well, Its mostly not a health big root System and also because of that not enough nutrionts for the plant.
Hope you can grow her better this years After a fresh start 🥳

Oh wow, this just confirmed my concerns about my moms alocasia. She absolutely LOVES her zebrinas (5 whole plants in our living room hahaha), but many are dropping and losing leaves. I noticed that the pots look rather large, I'll have to report this to her! :D

Progress videos are the best! I love seeing how much your albo, micans, splendid, and linearis have grown. Perfect way to start my grey, January PNW day. I spent 2022 growing several single vine plants long so I could chop and prop them for fuller plants, including Syng chiapense, Syng albo, and Phil mayoi. 2023 will be about growing out those fuller pots 🪴

I know you have tried Sydney plant guy method for moss poles but honestly, I made poles following his instructions and I water them once a week with an upturned bottle with holes in the lid from the top of the pole. The moss does dry out but I take a minute to moisten it then leave the upturned bottle on the top till it is empty. I haven't had a problem so far and my plants have grown well from spring to autumn in the UK so far. I will see what winter brings but so far watering has been a once a week little job.

    A goal
I have is to keep them alive and right now stop a mealy outbreak. I’ve only found two plants with
    Rallies but I’m
Treating all other plants with beam oil and soap plus systemic. I lamp hoping it’s only two plants.

Yeah, black velvet likes to be ignored! In winter, I keep it in a bright east window and water it every 2-3 weeks a little bit when it feels dry in the top inch or 2 of soil, and it’s still looking good with 3 big leaves!

Hey Fern, alot of really exciting updates here. Just a pointer on Alocasias.
They are my favourite genus and I have spent a lot of time trying to get all of mine out of the x2 leaf club (apart from the silver dragon that just never seems to drop leaves) and they number one most important thing I have found is fertiliser. I know you fertilise every time you water but I would double if not triple it in the warmer months. I have never found an issue to over fertilising an Alocasia. Although, as soon as the weather starts to cool I have always found it very hard to push past the 1-2 leaf club even in milsbo cabinet conditions.
I hope this helps because they are such beautiful plants with stunning foliage!
