My goal for this year is to focus on the plants I have as well and make them the best that they can be! I was super busy for a while and was slacking on my plant cares. But a part of me is feeling like the plants that step in line and can grow with my conditions without wildly babying them are survivors and make me so happy! Fern the key with the anthurium is to pay extra attention when they’re pushing new leaves they take up like 10x the water. I’m between new leaves it’s not a massive deal but when that thang comin out make sure it’s wet. And all of mine I put in pon with no drainage and it’s GOLD. ❤
Blueberry coffee, heavy cream, just a tiny bit of sugar and Fern! What a great way to start my Saturday morning. Glad you’re feeling better! Plants will all bounce back. Plant focus for 2023… downsizing. Having over 200 is now becoming more of a chore than a joy. It’s hard because I LOVE ❤️ them all.
Ahh I feel you on the downsizing!! I’ve been doing the same! I’ve actually gotten rid of about 20 in the past few weeks and there’s more to go. It feels so good. Ps I’ve never had blueberry coffee! I’m intrigued
@@wildfern It’s blueberry flavored. It’s ok… I bought it for a friend that was coming over for breakfast. She brought plants and I sent her home with some. (I’m passing them on to my daughter)
There is something about your goals videos that hyper motivates me to jump into plant care mode 😂 Between you and Kevin, my plants and I may actually make it through the end of this winter 😅❤
I have Calathea warscewiczii for 1,5 and found 2 things about it. It can start her adaptation half a year later after buying it. And this period can take pretty much time. Don’t be scared, just keep caring and watching after her. Second and most important thing: it started grow as a beast when I made her wick watering. The leaves got much bigger and they stopped drying
The plant I am focusing on this year is my sad green pothos. It was the first plant I ever propagated in water, and it's a bit sad. I will be chopping it lots, fertilizing it regularly, etc.
ferns back!!! 1. is that a bloom on that hoya vine that kept tryna hug you? lol 2. i have calatheas and i use a slow release fertilizer on them but i also add worm castings to my potting mix. my potting mix for them mostly consists of coco coir and some pumice since they do not like to dry out at all. and as far as lighting they prefer medium light rather than bright indirect. where they originate they are on the forest floor and surrounded by trees so they would get medium to dappled bright indirect. 3. im got so excited to see that u uploaded. luv u Fern!! say hi to Olive for meeee
Awe hi hi! So happy to be back :) 1. Yes lol! It's my Hoya Mathilde but sadly the peduncle dried out so it didn't turn into a bloom (always seems to happen to me with the Mathilde ugh lol) 2. Thank you so much for these tips! You're the best 3. Thank you - I appreciate you!! I will give olive a treat on your behalf 🫶
Agree with other commenters that regular watering is more important than humidity with calathea. My house is currently at 35% and my calathea are all fine. But if I miss a watering, the leaves crisp up. At this point, I have most of them in self watering pots with a mix of Coco coir and perlite. My water is incredibly hard where I live, so I water with distilled water.
The warszewiczii is also my favourite Goeppertia species (they've been reclassified as Goeppertia) but I haven't dared get one because the air in my flat gets so dry during the winter months. I do have two humidifiers running, but some days the humidity still sinks below 40%. I do have a large Goeppertia insignis (used to be Calathea lancifolia) and it seems to be doing fine. I've had it for several years now and it used to get crispy leaf tips, but since I repotted it in a self watering pot with very chunky mix (coco coir mixed with a lot of pumice a little pon and some bark) all the new leaf tips have remained green. It seems like they need constant access to moisture in order to thrive. Especially in dry air.
I love calathea. I keep mine moist. I have them in a chunky mix, though not as chunky as yours. I fertilize with each watering. Though right now I’m using super thrive to give all my plants a boost. Then I’ll return to fertilizer.
Hi I love your videos, you are so sweet! Maybe you already got this comment but I would recommend to move your amydrium from the terracotta pot if it often seems thirsty. Even if terracotta can serve a bit of a self watering situation, I just feel that it more often dry out the plant!
With the subhastatum, keep in mind that the larger leaves usually don't keep the red undersides. I have smaller and bigger ones and the big ones are gorge but fully green. Mixed pot with hastatum looks great tho
Im excited to see what you do with the Ctenanthe! I know you've been busy moving and getting settled, but hope that video is coming soon. I have a tiny one, and it does pretty well with the varigation so far. So hope you figure out what it is to get it back on yours!
Thanks for showing your plants when they're not doing their best! Makes the rest of us feel better about our neglected plants :) I'm glad you seem to be doing well after your sickness!
I’m very excited about this years planty goals 😊 Specifically the ctenanthe, calathea, and subhastatum. I think it’s so admirable you highlight easily accessible plants and can see how much you genuinely enjoy growing them 🤍🌱
Thank you beautiful human! You inspire and motivate me to concentrate on the plants I already have! My goals are to size up my plants on moss poles and to be consistent with my fertilizing routine! Missed you Fern. 💚🪴 Natalie from Australia 🇦🇺
Hey, so Calathea tip I have is only used distilled, filter or rain water. I find that regular tap water causes it to crisp up and brown. And watering it regularly matters more than humidity. I try to keep good humidity but sometimes can’t pebble trays work wonders! Also most of mine like medium light. 🥰
True they especially hate the fluoride in tap water, I used to think boiling my water and leaving it overnight to diminish the calcium helped, but it doesn’t. I have a White Fusion and it crisped up like nothing else and got spider mites on top. It looked like it was on the verge of death. But after treating it for spider mites and giving the correct care it started pushing out new beautiful healthy leaves. It has even flowered for me 😊 For humidity, I like grouping plants together, I find this gives more of a boost to the humidity than any pebble trays.
Welcome back!! I hope you’re feeling better ❤❤ So excited to go on this journey with you this year Fern!! Excited to see the progress! I need to start a list now too haha you’ve definitely inspired me!
No judgement coming from here. Your health comes first and I appreciate that you always keep it real. Only tip I have for calathea is distilled water and humidity. Being that your water quality is better in BC than here in Alberta, you may not need to use distilled. Also, I’ve lost a few calathea’s to thrips, so I might start doing regular pest prevention on my calathea’s specifically. As always, thank you for sharing your planty journey 💗
Your planty goal enthusiasm has inspired me to make my own list! I am putting my task oriented goals into those folded pick-a-number thingys to make it a kind of game!
Careful with the cthenthe. It’s been one I haven’t been able to propagate…..in soul or water. I would definitely experiment first before you completely chop to see what will work for you.
Favorite moment. . . At end while talking about Hoya Bella blooming goal, a wild vine with a peduncle was tapping you on the shoulder like “Look at me Mom” 😂
My plant goals are thus.. -Fill out and stop underwatering my P. Brasil -Get my Rhaphidophora decursiva to fenestrate -Beat my score of 4 leaves on my Alocasia green velvet (I've lost two) -_Finally_ become successful in growing Tradescantia Nanouk.
For the calathea, I have a few and I would recommend hydro setup, my warscewiczii is super big and as I had it in soil it would suffer greatly because the stems are long and the leaves are so heavy it would just bend off, it happened to all my bigger calatheas unfortunately until I got them into hydro, rn they are just straight up in water and the stems are perky and stiff all the time, it also hepls to get a high vessel that can support the plant, like a big ass vase would be ideal! I feel like they don't like being too wet or too dry, in soil it would always get over and under watered all at the same time... Now it's looking well and stable!
Hmm interesting, interesting. Thank you for sharing! I might consider this. I am always nervous to transfer from soil to semi-hydro, but maybe it's worth the risk 👀

GIRL YOUR SKIN IS BEAUTIFUL-FLAWLESS!!! Lookin like a porcelain doll. Perfection 👌 🤩 😎
Omg putting crawlers into pots with other plants is so genius! Awww your comments always make me smile - thank you so much for being a ray of sunshine 🥰
I bought a big jungle velvet calathea during the end of the summer . I discovered in five months that is a very finicky plant, I soak it every 8 or nine days and what I find is that she is very thirsty and the soil have to be always moist or you'll lose some leaves. I lost some leaves but she grew some new ones as well, the key is to keep the humidity high, specially when a new leaf is unfurling the soil must be moist and the humidity above 70% or it will partially came out crispy
For Calathea I find they the pebble pond thing works really well cause they get even more humidity then I already have from my humidifier. Plus they stay most but not soaked that way which they seem to love. Also, slightly lower, but clearly not low light seems to help me. I want you to know that these goals videos have really made me wanna make sure sure I focus on the plants I have already this year! Thanks friend.
I love ctenanthe lubbersiana and mine used to be very leggy. So I cut it back so it can have a fresh start. few months later, it became a bushy plant. :D
PS will you be making any videos about how you choose which plants to downsize/ the journey of downsizing your collection? It's something I need to do but it's so hard to choose!
My goals: silver sword, cebu blue mix on a prunus serrula branch; grow a myriad of strap leaved anthurium on my mother forest; glow up my velvet philodendron especially p verrucosum and place my small vining hoya on 'zen' or children's metal rake heads so they hang uniformly.
Let’s glow up our warzewiczii together! I’ve brought mine back from the brink a few times and it’s finally getting bigger. Then a cold snap damaged it badly. I think they want a lot more light…I acclimated mine to almost full sun and it did much better for me. I think the secret is light! Any of my prayer types get sad looking I put them outside and they always thrive. Maybe you can put it in your garden this spring?
i had a velvet calathea a while ago! it was a good plant- kinda moody for me but it was in regular schmegular indoor potting soil, nothing too fancy, and it did great for me! i think i killed it when i forgot to water it for a month, lol. they dont like sitting in wet/moist soil, but you cant let it be bone dry for longer than 24 hours or it will end its life. at least that was my experience. it likes bright indirect light, but dont put it 2 inches from the bright window bc the leaves will burn. i think thats everything i can remember lol
Awesome goals Fern ❤ I can’t wait to see how you do with them 😍 One of my big goals this year is to get some more grow lights and organize my plant room nicely 💚💜🤍
These some of my main goals, too, Natasha! Now that things are sizing up and really FILLING OUT my space, I have put the priority on maximizing their conditions AND placing them in aesthetic ways to really showcase the work we’re doing together
Thank youuuu - I'm excited to get started! I have a lot of chopping etc ahead of me haha. Can't wait for spring :) And that is awesome, can't wait to see updates on your planty setup!
My goals for this year are to keep my cast-iron plant nice and healthy and my Amazon certain pohos Is also starting to grow a bit faster. It took a while, but it’s starting to go grow now.
Amydrium is definitely a thirsty genus! Mine was the same but she out grew her pole and she got the chop. But can’t wait to see your update from this in a year!
My exotica looked like yours. It is now a full plant. I kept propagating it and putting new cuttings back in pit. Can’t wait to see what yours will look like by end of year
I'm no hoya expert but mine grow much better with reasonably consistent watering and fertilizing-- none of that letting them go bone dry stuff, I just lose branches that way. I am using the miracle gro orchid spray fertilizer and they like it.
@@marsf4883 If you find they still aren't growing, read up on the hoya flat mites going around. I suspect my obovata may have them because it's done absolutely nothing for over a year. 🙄 I've got some sulfur I'll attempt to treat with when I get around to it.
I think was inspired by your ctenanthe lubbersiana and got a small one a few months ago. It's been super fast growing so far and it's giving me the most beautiful leaves. I'm sure that a bit more light will make youes glorious again :) definitely an underrated plant imo
Happy New year Fern 😊💚 my plant goals for this year is placing my hanging plants in a nice way and get better at fertilizing 😂 for the rest I just pray for them to stay alive
Hey Fern, glad your back and feeling better!! I have a few planty goals this year.. I'm an Alocaisa girl at heart (about 90% of my collection) I've been rescuing and purchasing some philodendron this year to test my skills. I've also started a new instagram account to encourage me to track my plants growing. I've also started some propagation projects for fuller pots. Let's do this :)
Also also,,, I got a Thai constellation for Christmas!!! It's just a little baby one and I am TERRIFIED because of the struggle you had with yours !!!! Someone wish me luck
I just don't find my plants really do any better in it than soil I guess. I might still use it for some plants. The less maintenance thing is nice though!
Love these goal videos! Theres so often a focus on just getting more and more plants instead of enjoying what you have. This year i want to focus on my white princess - i accidentally snapped off a leaf and that activated 5 growth points 😂 😭 the newer leaves are tiny and sickly but i think thd second batch should hopefully be better! Then i will pop her on a pole :D
Yes exactly! It feels so good to just improve on the collections we already have. And ahh lovely, I hope she bounces back for you. She's going to be incredible with all of those growth points!
I won’t speak for her but I will say I don’t see any blooms at any point?? Behind her is her Linearis and Cebu and her Krimson Queen definitely hasn’t bloomed, or we would all know it! 😂😂 She’s counting down the days for that one ❤
I hope to get at least 1 hoya in bloom and the quen antherium and pallidiflorum grow bigger. For the other anteriums and philodendron getting more mature leaves would be great as well. Most were added to my collection from july 2022 as cuttings so this is the year they should start growing

Hey Fern! Will you be doing a follow up video for 2024? This is my favorite video. 🤗
Oh my goodness, yes. I am very curious to look back on it myself lol!
Thank you so much! I definitely need to up my watering for mine. I appreciate all of the tips :)
Happy New Year Fern!! Glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better! I missed your face 🥺🌱
Awe happy new year! I'm so happy to be back :)
One of my goals is to restart my subhastatum and grow a bushier plant this year..it dropped a lot of its lower leaves and is looking really straggly 😆
Ohhh same! Mine is not looking too hot. I'm excited to propagate it. Again haha.
Fern I live watching you go for your plant goals! You inspire me 🥰
Aww thank you so much!! x
I reaaaally hope one of my hoya's will finally bloom. I'm thinning out my collection, and hopefully adding another milsbo cabinet.
Ooo exciting that you're getting another milsbo. I have some thinning out to do as well!
Thank you for the tips! I really appreciate it. And I'm glad you enjoyed the video ☺️☺️
When you were showing your Hoya Bella I think I see an active pedancle on the hoya that’s trailing to your right… is that right??? 😮
Yes! On my Hoya Mathilde. Sadly it's dried up though so it won't turn into a bloom 😭 has happened to me twice now with that plant!
@@wildfern oh no! I hope it blooms soon for you 💚💚💚
fern your hair looks so freaking cute styled like that!!! 😭
Thank youuuu 🥺🥺
I love ctenanthe lubbersiana and mine used to be very leggy. So I cut it back so it can have a fresh start. few months later, it became a bushy plant. :D
Ahh that is awesome to hear! I can't wait to chop mine soon 👀
My only calathea tip is to water them. I don't and they die lol. I need to make some plant goals for the year!
Great goals! It sounds like you have a gorgeous plant set up ☺️
Fun video, Fern! This has inspired me to look around at my plants and set some goals. Oh and I love that little peduncle peeking in to your right!
Awe thank you so much 🥰🌿 sadly that peduncle has croaked lol rip
Let’s glow up our warzewiczii together! I’ve brought mine back from the brink a few times and it’s finally getting bigger. Then a cold snap damaged it badly. I think they want a lot more light…I acclimated mine to almost full sun and it did much better for me. I think the secret is light! Any of my prayer types get sad looking I put them outside and they always thrive. Maybe you can put it in your garden this spring?
Yes - let's!! 👏 and thanks for the light tip. I'll try to move it into a bit of a brighter area 👀 and possibly out to the garden when it warms up!
i had a velvet calathea a while ago! it was a good plant- kinda moody for me but it was in regular schmegular indoor potting soil, nothing too fancy, and it did great for me! i think i killed it when i forgot to water it for a month, lol. they dont like sitting in wet/moist soil, but you cant let it be bone dry for longer than 24 hours or it will end its life. at least that was my experience. it likes bright indirect light, but dont put it 2 inches from the bright window bc the leaves will burn. i think thats everything i can remember lol
Thank you for the tips, I appreciate it!! I'm really hoping she will have a good year for me 💖
Before I even start the video… welcome back!!!!! Hope you’re feeling better!
Thank you so much for this ☺️ very glad to be back!
Focusing on my new beauties, Alocasia silver dragon and Alocasia black velvet. So excited to see them grow!
Oooo lovely! Silver dragon has definitely been catching my eye lately
Fern, would love a video on your sulfur treatment journey if you haven’t made one already! Keep up the content, you are inspiring!
@@hollypuckett3931 heck yes!! Best of luck with everything girl 🌿🤍🦋
Thank youuuu - I'm excited to get started! I have a lot of chopping etc ahead of me haha. Can't wait for spring :) And that is awesome, can't wait to see updates on your planty setup!
@@wildfern 🤍🤍
@@natashaoreilly7072 You, too! ❤️✨🌱
Interesting to know it's not just mine! She's definitely one of my thirstiest plants 👀 We've been down this droopy road a few times hahah.
My exotica looked like yours. It is now a full plant. I kept propagating it and putting new cuttings back in pit. Can’t wait to see what yours will look like by end of year
Lovely! I'm excited to start chopping & propping mine :)
Is this your natural hair color?! I’m OBSESSED 😍
Can’t wait to see the hoya Bella’s bloom! Hoping I can just get my hoyas to grow this year lol.
I'm no hoya expert but mine grow much better with reasonably consistent watering and fertilizing-- none of that letting them go bone dry stuff, I just lose branches that way. I am using the miracle gro orchid spray fertilizer and they like it.
@@LulaMae21 thanks for the tips! Yeah I don’t fertilize them much, that could be why!
@@marsf4883 If you find they still aren't growing, read up on the hoya flat mites going around. I suspect my obovata may have them because it's done absolutely nothing for over a year. 🙄 I've got some sulfur I'll attempt to treat with when I get around to it.
@@LulaMae21 Oh yes, flatmites. Ugh those buggers. Hopefully that’s not the case. We will see what’s up once Spring rolls around :P.
I think was inspired by your ctenanthe lubbersiana and got a small one a few months ago.
It's been super fast growing so far and it's giving me the most beautiful leaves.
I'm sure that a bit more light will make youes glorious again :) definitely an underrated plant imo
Oh that is lovely to hear! Looking forward to her glow up :)
Missed your videos. Happy that you're well and back. Im sure you'll have all these goals striked out at the end of the year✨️
Awe thank you so much 🥺💖
Happy New year Fern 😊💚 my plant goals for this year is placing my hanging plants in a nice way and get better at fertilizing 😂 for the rest I just pray for them to stay alive
Happy New Year! Thank you for watching ☺️ and great goals!
Nice to see you back Fern!
Thank you so much! Glad to be here ☺️🌿
Hey Fern, glad your back and feeling better!!
That is so exciting! It’s going to be a good planty year 🥰🌿
Hi Fern nice to see you
Hello 😊 glad to be here!
Also also,,, I got a Thai constellation for Christmas!!! It's just a little baby one and I am TERRIFIED because of the struggle you had with yours !!!! Someone wish me luck
It will do well! I think mine is an anomaly. Good luck 🫶
Great goals! I am most excited about the Hoya Bella blooms ✨
Thank you! I will be so happy if she does bloom 🥰
I just made a similar video and list for 2023 inspired by your 2022 video and review!
That's awesome!! 🥰🌿
I love your Amydrium so much. I have a little two leaf baby. Can't wait until mine grows and fenestrates.
I love it too, they are so stunning! I wish more people had them honestly.
Hi Fern! Cute video! I want to work on my Alocasia Silver Dragon!
Amazing!! I looove the silver dragon 😍🤤
Hi I definitely see a Hoya bloom in the background! Is it the k. Princess?
It's my Mathilde! but it dried up :( lol
I swear my pictus exotica is in the same pot. I got mine at Lowe’s
or Home Depot
I missed you🥺 I'm glad ur back
Thank you so much, so glad to be back!
With the holidays we all neglected our plants a little,😢hope they recover ok👍
💚🌱🌵☘️💚
I hope so too! Excited to get back into the swing of things :) and excited for spring! 🥹
Please show us what medium you use to propagate your scindapsus exotica. My cuttings never want to root 🥴
I’ve had really good luck with perlite. I will film when I propagate it soon :)
So nice to see your face on here!
Trying to get a hoya to bloom will forever be on my goals list😅
Give them all the light and bloom encouraging feed ❤😊 This is your year!
Awe thank you! I'm so glad to be back. I hope you get that Hoya bloom 🫶
I liked this video. I'm always making my own goals too. btw love that green pot your begonia was in!
Thank you! I found the pot 50% off at Michaels last summer and was so excited about it. It reminds me of a green aventurine crystal.
my amydrium is in a no drainage vessel with leca and i have to fill it up every second day 🤓
omg I guess they're just thirsty and it's not just mine hahah 😵
Hi Fern! 🌿Why do you want to give up on Pon? It is excellent, you can even avoid under watering your plants.
Your hair looks so cute!!
Thank you!!
Does the amedrium come in small, medium and large ?
what bloom is next to your left shoulder?? is it the hoya crimson queen?!?! 25:26
I won’t speak for her but I will say I don’t see any blooms at any point?? Behind her is her Linearis and Cebu and her Krimson Queen definitely hasn’t bloomed, or we would all know it! 😂😂 She’s counting down the days for that one ❤
Fern! What is the brand of those adorable overalls???
Lucy & Yak :)
I hope to get at least 1 hoya in bloom and the quen antherium and pallidiflorum grow bigger. For the other anteriums and philodendron getting more mature leaves would be great as well. Most were added to my collection from july 2022 as cuttings so this is the year they should start growing
I'm sure they will grow very well for you this year :) Hope you get that Hoya bloom too!
I just messaged you on Insta! I was missing your face, glad you’re here!! Hope all is wellllllll! ❤🎉
Awe thank you! So glad to be back 🥺🥰
