I have a 2018 FK8, what a great car. driving this car on a twisty road and it just keeps gripping, holding you the driver in your seat. What a gearbox, tight, mechanical a proper drivers car. To this day it puts a smile on my face.
@@SuperDigitalMe Yes they did, don't buy anything before 2018. I test drive these cars at the factory and the modern variant (with the buttplug gearshift) are way better than the initial models. Older cars would not go into reverse, and the factory simply wrote it off as new parts, but the newer cars slide into every gear really well.
Recently bought the Type R and I cannot fault it in any ways. The car is insane. Videos etc doesn't do justice. As a mad driver, I left behind Golf R. Its all about your skills and timing. Love the car and great value for money. Everybody looks and compliments
I absolutely love my i30N performance. Went from a Leon cupra 280 to it. I 100% agree what you said about the i30N, just needs a little more power. I will be getting it remapped once this lockdown is over. Should bring it to just over 300bhp.
@@mk3tsi They're both brilliant cars. If you want fun with great handling, pick the i30n. If you want speed to keep up with type r, golf r and audi s3, pick the cupra. Fuel is better on the cupra even when pushing the car. I could get 45mpg on the cupra if I drove sensible, the i30n I can get about 35mpg if I drive sensible. If I had to pick between a new cupra or a new i30n... I would pick the i30n. Yes its down on power and speed but its just so much more fun to drive. The sound of the exhaust popping and banging always puts a smile on my face.
@@idk4466 The "fake" hood scoop actually directs air to the exhaust manifold and wheel arches. Also every car has fake bumper vents, Honda simply made them big as a design feature that didn't look that good.

Well done! Just discovered your channel. Subscribed! As you went over your list I could feel the build up to the Honda Civic Type R and I was right! I too am a fan of the hot hatches ever since owning, and sadly having to let go of, a first gen Honda CRX back in high school. For us here in the US we don't have the Hyundai i30 but we do get the AMAZING Hyundai Veloster N. The short list for our second car was a Veloster N or a Type R. We had an opportunity to get one of the last, new Type R's in our region and got it and boy are we glad we did. This thing is OUTSTANDING and for those who quickly dismiss it because it is front wheel drive and not all wheel drive or rear wheel drive, just drive the thing. For those who don't like the looks, I can't help you there because my wife and I LOVE the way it looks and we don't buy cars to please other people anyways. After typing this I am going to go to my garage and look at it again and smile. Again, well done and keep up the great work!
Current GTI owner with a lease expiring in a few months. NOT a fan of FWD because of the wheel hop launching straight, in turns or in fast transitions. Living in the NE USA we get all seasons. One of my favorite rides was my 06 MAZDASPEED6. We don’t really have anything like that anymore. As highly touted as the Type R is I’m nervous about getting into another FWD vehicle. Wish we had Type R levels of performance in an affordable 4 door midsized sedan like Mazda and Subaru (Legacy Spec B) used to build. All of the really fun performance sedans are 55+K. Keep up the good vids Rory. We follow u on the gram too and miss u on Top Gear.
Honda are the kings of fwd performance. Just took them a few years to remember. Ek9, Dc2, Dc5, Ep3, CL7, Fd2 - all outstanding cars and not just ‘for front wheel drive’. Plus, all aforementioned cars will probably give a bigger thrill than the majority of this list.
I have just ordered my new car. I was torn and spent at least a month agonising. I used to own an integra type R DC2... and then a honda S2000 and so it was really (really) difficult to look past the Civic Type R. But in the end, yesterday I ordered an AMG A35. Hope I don't regret it.

The haters simply can’t accept that the fk8 is an amazing car. I own one - dropped a PRL intake in it. Lots of bolt on’s are available too. Great car all round. If you hate the looks then that’s fine but at least judge the car in the flesh first.

Yes!!!! Great list. I drive a Fiesta ST which isn2nd on the list. With the performance pack going fast around corners is amazing, the car eats the road and is so much fun to drive, although I was it was faster. The interior quality of the A35/A45s has got me considering and am dreaming of an upgrade.

your last point in the reason you're right. for hot hatches, i think "good enough" is enough for speed, and price is the most important bit. i'm fine with 200hp hatches.
Coming from a mk3.5 Focus ST, I gotta say the mk4 is a whole different animal. It’s more expensive but a significantly better car as a result. 8th doesn’t accurately reflect how good that car is when considering what’s higher up!

Great summary of top hatches! I've seen quite a few races with the type r and you mentioned it's rapid but it always gets left behind 😔🤔. Can you organize an in depth review of it or please provide a link of someone who has reviewed it? Most likely it's a special car for a specific group of people
The Fiesta needs to be £3-4k cheaper for the top spec one. Hot hatches are ridiculously overpriced now and it seems to be since the golden 300hp 'standard' arrived. Remember the days when and split new Type R was £16k and a Clio Cup was £13k! That was affordable.
@@JMB1891 maybe its down to all the tech in cars now but £35k is probably not affordable to most. I'd still take a Clio Cup over anything out today just for the raw fun.

I think the Veloster N is the i30N, just under another name to prevent brand confusion.

I've owned both cars, the RS is more fun and engaging the Type r is sooooo easy to drive fast as fuck. That's in the dry weather.

You forgot to mention that the i30n will have DCT option starting from 2021 model year, 0-62 will probably drop at least 0.3-0.4sec.
Hot hatches aren't meant to be autos, the pleasure of driving them is from feeling connected to the car.

You’ll only notice that level of understeer driving on a track anyway... they’re by far the most superior hot hatch in my opinion... best all-rounder!
