The Renault 5 is a nice demonstration of how much battery technology has moved on in just over a decade. The 2012 Renault Fluence had a 250 kg battery pack that has 22 kWh of energy. The 2025 Renault 5 has a 240 kg battery pack with 40 kWh of energy. Nearly doubled in energy density!

They will change to lfp batteries. I hope they will change to lmfp batteries and later to sodium ones in the cheaper models aswell as in the twingo ev. And improve charging speed. Not really I think for now you’re safe buying this first one because the difference won’t be much and price won’t change. If it changes it will be less than 1000£. They confirmed it in an interview. During 2026 it will be updated. Only tech not the design.

Pity they aren’t doing a red one as lots of the original ones were red or blue or white. Wonder why?
Might be a bit difficult lifting a rear wheel when getting carried away with the battery weight.
Renault have been producing good cars for a few years now, we had the Captur RS and we now have 2 Austral Alpine Techno.
You never need to touch the wipers if you have them on auto. Learn to use just one finger to operate the gear selector. Is park not available by pressing the end in on the gear selector?
As for your little AI friend, you can use Google by saying Google and whatever you want. Great for sat nav.

£300 per month is a rip-off for a £24k car. What makes it far worse, is that is by paying a lot upfront, only getting a low mileage allowance and having to keep it for over three years - meaning beyond its warranty period.
I just got my new personal lease. Vauxhall Corsa Electric (£33,385) in the Ultimate trim - £260 upfront and £250 admin fee, then £260pm for three years, 8,000 miles per year.

Comparing leasing rates on the R5 against your Corsa-e is interesting - but, flawed...
The Corsa-e has been around for years and, as is typical for Vauxhall, it's very heavily upfront and, in particular, on lease - so, sure, you're bound to be getting a cheaper rental.

EV's make more sense in cities- short journeys, easier to construct infastructure, local pollution down- EV manufacturers should have targeted city cars from the outset. By now all major western cities would've been all electric by now- with all the health benefits easy to see. Also, if everyone had these small cars they'd all be safe from large, overpowered cars.

EV adoption is a gradual process and charging installations are now at a much faster rate than required.
Within the last couple of years we have seen a massive increase in public chargers.
According to Zapmap there are over 73000 public chargers in 37000 locations and growing by over a thousand every month
The biggest problem in most of the UK is not lack of charging infrastructure but the cost.
Hopefully that will come down as competition hots up.

@@jamesengland7461Well, that's the way it's going. No one wants these terrible new cars now. That's why manufacters are all trying to go upmarket, to the people with more money than sense. But those same people are badge snobs, so some companies will inevitably go bankrupt.
And that's not even talking about the people suddenly unable to afford going to work, because public transport is also terrible (in the UK).

Sometimes it's the only way to get what you want. I recently bought my first new car in 35 years - a Hyundai i20N. Only on the market 3 years and discontinued at the start of 2024. Used cars were fetching almost the new price due to a lack of availability.
I 'gave in' and against my better judgment bought new from my local dealer. Loving the car but (obviously) would have loved to pay much less for it

If you've got a daily commute of 200 mile youd be better off moving closer to where you work, if like the majority of uk driveers you travel an average of 18 miles per day then you'll be fine.

    • @dealbreakerc
      @dealbreakerc 2 години тому +1

@GaryV-p3hthe average daily drive is slightly higher than that or at least as calculated by dividing the 135 miles per week average by 7. Perhaps 18 miles is the average daily commute? Still, the fact is the average Brit can go more than a week without plugging in at all so it's plenty of range for most people the vast majority of the time.

The range of these EVs is simply not good enough for the majority of people who commute. Having been an EV user for 7 years (Ioniq and Kona 64kwh) the efficiency drop off after a couple of years is pronounced and you lose about 25% range over 3 years. When I first got those cars I could get near 6kw p/mile and average 4.6kw. Hyundai are good on efficiency. After 3 years that is now 3.6 on average on the Kona and so anything starting off around 4kw is going to struggle after a couple of years. The Ioniq was more efficient but had a smaller battery. In winter it drops a lot. A shame as the 5 looks great. Refuse to own a Tesla.
