Dishonored 2's Very Bad No Good "Good" Ending
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лип 2024
- Delilah's last name is Copperspoon. Get it? Because Jessamine was born with a silver spoon in her mouth...get it? Clever stuff.
Songs Used:
"BFG Division" - Mick Gordon
"The Entertainer" - Kevin MacLeod
"Danse Macabre - Finale" - Kevin MacLeod
I still remember hitting the final level, visiting the shrine to Jesamine and realizing Delilah's entire motivation was that her sister broke a vase like 40 years ago.
you can just tell that this game was written by 'those folks' lolol. it tanked this franchise that was fairly good for a stealth game.
@@SammyDiamonds892 Yeah, I fell in love with Dishonored at first glance, played it on release and did several more full playthroughs since then. When 2 dropped I tried it out immediately... only to quickly turn it off and postpone it until somewhere around 2023. The gameplay was still good in the end, but fuck me, the story got ruined so bad.
Well sort of, that event was just the starter for the following bad life events that slowly turned her into the type of person she became. But to think that incident would cause such huge domino effect - her writing shittalk on Jesamine’s grave bc of it is still funny 😭
Yeah, but she got banished to the streets for it. I don't love it, it reminds me of the Witcher 3's dlc "Blood and wine" where Syanna has the same motivation to hate her sister. Imo it's silly, nobody remains mad for decades.
That’s not even close to the reason for her distain for her sister. She and her mother were forced into poverty because her sister lied knowing that she’d be punished far more harshly than she would. The motivation is sound, you just lack the common sense to understand
I enjoy the head-cannon that if Corvo escaped instead of Emily, he would forgo his previously non-lethal tendencies. An old, jaded man betrayed one too many times. The "Corvo the Black" ending
Except the explicit text confirms a lethal route for Dishonored 1 Corvo. (I hate that they do this)
Corvo not only kills three guards using bend time in the opening cinematic, but he's described as being a symbol of infamy from the era of the rat plague. Non-lethal can be fun, but it represents stasis for Corvo; not change. Given that one of the themes of Dishonored 2 is forgiveness and letting go, Corvo deciding to stop the killing on the way to healing from Jessamine's death works for me, personally.
I like the idea of an older Corvo returning to the city from his past, but he's pretty half baked.
Emily is arguably a stronger choice by not being baked at all. Any combination of player choices can be justified because her adult form is brand new to the series. Whether she is vengeful, merciful, approving of her father's choices, or vowing to be better than her father... Emily is pretty inoffensive towards any interpretation.
Okay, so, under scrutiny, this story tears apart quicker than Jessamine Kaldwin. You gotta think though, the killing animations are so much more fucking metal now. 10/10.
What's wrong with the story? It's not the most interesting but it's perfectly coherent. Emily ruled her empire pretty badly due to inexperience, not having much good teaching and Corvo being rightfully a bit paranoid about others influencing her since they could have tried to run the kingdom by themselves through her. Delilah obtained a few allies among corrupt aristocrats and attempted a coup, and it's not like everyone in the country is on board with her, she bribed the captain of the guards, had all the loyal ones killed during the coup and the other leaders who are faithful to the throne didn't get much time to react to the new political situation before it was already resolved by Emily/Corvo.
nah, the real thing ya gotta think is how fucking awesome emilys outfit is
Funnily enough, the Dishonored comic that follows Dishonored 2 has pretty much all the same problems. It opens with a man named Archibald holding a peaceful assembly, talking about how the people should have a say in how their city is run when the workers are the backbone of Dunwall, asking for elections and that having a single seat of power allowed Delilah to run amok. Emily makes some very poor arguments which Archibald refutes, then claims that Archibald is merely power-hungry and doesn't care for the people, which he isn't and he does. Corvo threatens to kill him, because Corvo likes killing people, and then Emily skulks off to do some cloak and dagger nonsense with Corvo instead of HER JOB, because being a good empress means shivving gang members in the slums.
They fall into a trap (bone charms that negate the Outsider's mark strapped with explosives), Corvo almost dies, Meanwhile, Archibald is captured by the new antagonist (Lualla Price, or in other words, nobody of consequence) and forced to...keep doing what he's doing, which is call for reform and fair elections. Brilliant. During one of his speeches, the City Watch arrive and threaten violence if they do not disband their PEACEFUL assembly. Archibald is forced to incite them to violence, despite the City Watch having already done his job for him. Despite Corvo warning her she's being baited into a trap like they just did to her yesterday, Emily tracks down Lualla and falls for THE SAME TRAP THAT SHE JUST FELL INTO A DAY AGO (minus the explosives because Ms. Nobody of Consequence is not intelligent). They fight, Emily wins because Ms. NoC decided to monologue.
After being imprisoned, Lualla states correctly that even with her own crimes, Emily's family has a trail of bodies just as long, and the only reason she's imprisoned and Emily isn't is because she won. Emily chooses to not kill her, which makes Archibald forget all the reasons why the monarchy was a bad thing and loses all of his remaining braincells, and starts a chant of "long live the crown", and everyone is forced to admit Emily is a good person. Corvo says she should have killed her, because Corvo likes killing people, and the story ends with the overall message being "believe in yourself" and nobody learns anything.
if this is real you made it so easy to understand and I find the comedy to be humorous
@@exusiaisimp8711 Unfortunately, everything I said is 100% accurate to the comic
…
This sound’s exactly like what an Incredibly out of touch Writer would vomit into a fake lore addition comic
I can Believe It
Sadly
Except Emily losing an argument and skulking off to go kill people instead of doing her job is kind of a core component of her character? That’s the kind of person she is, someone who vents frustration by killing people.
Dialogue in Emily’s murder room - y’know, because all good Empresses have a *murder room* - indicates that even Corvo tells her that she needs to lay off the murder and start doing her job, but she doesn’t.
Which makes sense, literally every problem in Emily’s life has been solved by violence and the only person in her life that she trusts (because all the other ones are dead or betrayed her) _also_ solves all his problems with violence (and, yeah, probably does enjoy it).
She doesn’t think before she acts, she doesn’t do what’s best, she just does what she WANTS. When the Outsider gives her her powers, it doesn’t make her a silent and deadly assassin like Corvo, it doesn’t turn her into a stealth-centric planner like Billie, it turns her into a shadow monster that literally rips people in half. That’s her *blink* equivalent. Emily is at best a very dysfunctional and callous person and at worst an actual sadistic psychopath (I mean just look at some of her kill animations). It’s not a mistake that both her and her dad have a skill called ‘bloodlust’.
Yeah all the plot stuff is a little bleh, I haven’t read the thing, but just from this short overview that actually doesn’t sound like a bad characterisation of Emily Kaldwin.
@@legateelizabeth Missing the point of how that just doesn’t work for Her but kinda getting It
Hey there delilah whats it like in new york city
hey there delilah what's it like in dunwall city I'm a thousand miles away but I'll bet that you're still petty aren't you
11:30 there's a third option. Fix the present. It's also canon to "Death of the Outsider" and gets him on your side in the present which leads to questions as to why you even were here. Maybe the Outsider was preventing a paradox or something.
Ah yes. Well trap Delilah in the void. That will work perfectly and has never failed before.
Game has it's problems and the main villian is obviously weak, so is the beginning part. But I feel like you bash the game too hard with your humor, which largely consists of nitcpicking stuff that is most definetely okay.
Jindosh, for example. A character who has sound internal logic and is tied into the game well enough. He's a prick and a narcissist because of his perceived genius. Of course he's not gonna kill the player, Jindosh believes his puzzle house and automatons are unmatched, so the player stands no chance. And there is no issue here. Who he is as a chatacter is prepresented in his level and a little bit of flavour text when he smirks at you in a cutscenes.
Saying that the puzzle house is ruined by the presence of Jindosh is just... incorrect. If it's a joke, then it's not made clear enough. If it's a real take, then I can't understand it's validness.
And the whole video has a lot of small points like this.
Yeah that criticism was entirely unfounded. That and the "playing as a girl?" joke turned me away from his essay, he's clearly reaching.
sorry but dishonored 2 is immune from all criticism because of how awesome emilys outfit it, litterally no one ever has had a better outfit
Except, y'know, Corvo in the first game (Seriously, why did they get rid of his hood? The mask looks so much better with the hood!)
@@swindle9695 i get what your saying but i still disagree, corvos first game outfit was cool but emilys outfit is perfect, like its something i want to wear even though i could never pull it off as good as her
@@swindle9695 Karnaca is too hot to wear a hood. Dude was probably suffering just by having long sleeves
@@milagrosgutierrezmartin9506 Well that settles it. We need Corvo Attano in a Hawaiian shirt and cargo shorts with flip-flops.
@@swindle9695 modders gotta get on that
I'll forever lament the unrealized concept art fight of fighting Dellah's soul in a giant whalebone golem
My left ear enjoyed this video
Corvo wasn't high-chaos canonically, but there is one instance in the canon book where he loses his shit and stops being (mostly) stealthy and non-lethal:
While rescuing Emily from the whorehouse. Because it's his daughter, and he doesn't have the composure to keep himself calm while thinking of her daughter in danger. It makes perfect sense that he'd kill people in the throneroom attack.
"and plays meet the Grahams in the background"
Damn, Delilah is cold as ice
Delightful way to recap an excellent game
Yup. Story definitely sucked compared to part one. It was the damn gameplay that kept me on Dishonored 2
Yea story wise not the best, but the gameplay is 10/10 for me also the level designs imo
I mean, if clean hands wasn't canon, Emily was going to be a shit ruler. are we sure clean hands is canon? Edit: I meant low chaos
It isn't certain people and events would have happened if Clean Hands was canon. Corvo did kill some people but he did nonlethal others.
@@starkiller1289 sorry, I guess I meant low Chaos
@starkiller1289 You don't have to avoid killing to get low chaos, in fact you can murder all of the targets and still get low chaos as long as you don't kill more than 20% of the npcs in the level and maintain a few alarms as possible
@@tempusmars6272 yeah. I I said the wrong thing
Looking at this comment section, I feel like I need to say this, so I will:
The story of Dishonored 2 was not that bad.
The main plot line of 1 may have been a little better in places, but that's okay. 2 still makes up for it with a great degree of worldbuilding characteristic of the series.
People love to fucking bitch and complain about Dishonoured 2, some things are a little contrived but Dishonoured 1 was no flawless masterpiece either in terms of storytelling.
@@tamaiofthesea It's always like this with game franchises
It's because the first one is Le Classic, so fans obviously have to circlejerk to it (and I like D1 as well, don't get me wrong)
Because of this, sequels even if good, usually just get unnecessary amount of hate
@@spicydong317 yeah it’s annoying, I do understand it was buggy at launch but it’s been years stop crying over little shit like that from years ago. The level design is objectively better than anything dishonored 1 had. I love these games and hate to see the “Wah Wah my art style change” bullshit, all rose tinted glasses
Energy Bending 💀
The Outsider is very neutral but he drops a lot of powers into people like 3 times lmao
Not in fact 4
Corvo (1 game)
Emily
Empress
And the DLC i think with the black woman (not sure if the powers are granted by him)
8 people had the Outsider's Mark during D1. But you're wrong about a few here
Corvo has the mark ofc, but no longer during the events of D2.
Emily actively has the mark until DotO
The Empress Jessamine Kaldwin never had the mark
Granny Rags had the mark, and a power known as Apprentice, which gave the Torturer powers, both in D1. Her hand was mummified before D2 and Paolo uses it for the Escape power.
Delilah Copperspoon is marked
The Lonely Rat Boy from 'Tales from Dunwall' is marked.
Billie Lurk (the black woman I assume you mention) is not marked, but gets her powers either from Daud/Delilah's Arcane Bond, or from the Outsider's Void Artifacts (ultimately, she gets powers from Voidrite)
An Unnamed Woman in a book in D1 had the mark, and had a power which could unlock doors and windows.
Daud has the mark, and uses Arcane Bond to empower his Whalers.
The final marked person is unknown currently. And probably never will be known, but it is possible that it is an unnamed servant maid, according to the Heart's quote on a noble in D1
This is probably my favorite dishonored 2 video of all time lol
I very much appriciate your humour and the subtitles you provided! Thank you good sir and you have a sub!
Lol I never realised how quickly the story falls apart. Well, to me the game was just a tale of revenge where you choose to kill or torture.
Your channel is so underrated dude. Easy sub, hope you blow up on the algorithm soon
Love the gameplay of this game. Really dislike the story.
Great video man!
wasnt corvo trained in things similar to jessamine as was her right hand man for years and required for negatiations? much less the retconning makes the goldne man sound extremely incompetent when he has obviously been exposed to all types of people. he wouldve still uad time to learn?
Dishonored 2 is better because you get to play as one of the two hotest people in the empire. Also Emily's outfit is so incredibly based. Also the Clockwork Mansion and Crack in the Slab might be two of my favorite video game levels alongside Effect and Cause.
Masterpiece franchise
we shouldve traveled more
Noooooo I just got the bad ending and that also sucked. The outsider just kept popping in to go tisk tisk i am judgeing you. You didn't need to make a pile of skulls in the last level corvo.
how in the fuck you only got 282 subscribers.
Its 283 now
im a dingus I commented after I subscribed so its still 182 lol
fuck I meant 282
good video
Hate the opener of that game and its implications on the first games events. That game was not needed.
no game is needed

I love Dishonored. But everyone who says 'redfall was so unexpectedly bad, arkane is so good, there must have been outside influences making them make bad things' has not been paying attention. Dishonored 2, though I liked it, was pretty much the sign to me that Arkane was not interested in improving the things I liked, and it's been a downward trend since.
Dishonored 2 is literally better in every way except like, maybe the story. But the first game's story is at best, generic as fuck, and at worst, boring excuses for the gameplay to exist
Please fix your mic balance.
fix your output device
I dont have any problems?
Dishonored 2’s plot Is Innately broke before the Game start’s
Of the two most Important and Beloved Characters
You Froze one and forced the Player to play the Complete game without the other
Massively hindering Everything out of shear Laziness
They also seemingly don’t Know Who Corvo Is and what He should Be doing
The Plot’s super Pathetic for even allowing that DLC Villain to have Survived this long and comeback as a Reused Asset main Villain
Artstyle’s Beautiful; Game’s Fun
What Is This Amateur Writing?
Some Cool Concepts but They’re not executed Well enough and the most Important backdrop to the Central Story Is Comically Inept
Just make some different Characters and make the World reflect Their Reality
Great breakdown
Good Work My Man
Yeah, I agree with you. One thing to note though is that the DLC was thought up after they were done with the story of Dishonored 2 as a way to bridge the two games from what I remember
@@NB-qb8fw I Know
But frankly She Isn’t Worth more than that
Not nearly Worthy enough to be The Central Antag
And with all the reused Concepts that were done better in the Dishonored DLC
It feel’s like She’s just another bunch of Underdeveloped Wasted Creativity
Shoulda never returned after Being so thoroughly gotten rid of
Great video man! I might suggest less focus on retelling the story itself, and more on your analysis!
I feel bad this is the PEAK OF ARKANE (or maybe Prey 2017 not sure)
I dont feel Deadloop is good, in fact, looks like Dishonored 1.5 with multiplayer
Is a shame they are dead as devs
Get reckted, Tell don't show!
really bizarre that a game about assassins assassinating bad guys scolds you for assassinating bad guys. like, they trained corvo specifically to kill people, and obviously he's okay with it or he wouldn't have the job. and everyone you kill is bad, so what exactly is the problem? do the writers think soldiers should wage war with tasers and pepper spray or something?
No? You can literally kill all of the major targets and still get the 'good' ending. It's pretty much what canonical Corvo did in the first game (He also started a literal rampage in The Golden Cat, but still tried to stay mostly 'merciful')
@@tealover2871 corvo spared daud canonically lmao
@@or6060 And? I've never said he killed everyone. My point is that the game doesn't punish you for killing major targets. It even becomes easier for the player.
@@tealover2871 you did explicitly say that actually lol either way it doesn't matter because the game punishes you for killing non-targets regardless of how justifiable it is, which is dumb as i stated originally
@@or6060 Assasins usually don't work like that. Isn't the chaos system entire purpose is to balance the game depending on how openly you play or how many people you murder? I don't think that the ending is a big deal punishment.
Delighlah is a cringey OC the second game is fun but the writing is garbage.
