@@DyLightedCatan He wasn't, though. Green had two VPs. Blue was drawing dead at the end. There were a knight and a mono left in the deck at the end. He literally could not win the game.
Some shower thoughts: -Blue is the only one that needs to be kicking themselves, not trying to secure a single settlement spot put them into a "So near, yet so far situation." Eventually he was stuck on 9 points max, due to no VPs being left in the pile. -Dice stats were crazy this game!! 8s were rolled 16 times, which at times could instantly bring 10 Ore to the table. Dylan was the ONLY non-beneficiary of those rolls. Comparatively, 7s were only rolled half as much - 8 times. Dylan's best number, the coordinated 6s for road - only rolled 7 times total. Strong numbers that were shared by the same 3 people from the start, (except Dylan once again) were the 5s and 10s, which only rolled scarcely alongside the 9. 11s were rolled way above the usual average, providing Dylan and Boromir an edge for their respective Brick and Sheep ports. +despite being a skewed board due to innate low wool production (only available on 10-11-12 tiles), resource stats showed that while Ore was the most plentiful resource to hit the players' hands (around 90), the other 4 resources were basically distributed equally (60 of each). For Math geeks, stats and graphics with curves like those are basically a feast for the eyes, artistically speaking. A very intense match, with lots of nail-biting moments until the very last roll of the dice. Loved it 10/10.
Dude that was the best video I have seen in ages! The music and the hero monologue really got me hooked and I for sure thought you lost that game. You deserve this like more than anyone!
@@DyLightedCatan Honestly this exact thing is the only thing I disliked about your game, them robbing you at that moment were a rare on-time robbing. And you won at the end, that pretty much proved they had a point robbing you. I think this is a common trait among catan players - they just refuse to admit that people grouping against them is sometimes totally justified as it was in this game. Other than that the only mistake was wasting one more road to prevent blue from building a settlement, you went out of your way to hit the moat unlikely to win player at thw moment. If you did not do that you probably would have won two rounds earlier. Maybe I am wrong cus I watched on my phone ans could not see anything else but the cities on the map. Otherwise great content!
I don’t see how you’re going to win this one DyLighted. As you said, everyone else has an absolute monster setup. However, you’ve shocked me multiple times before on this channel, so I’m excited to see what wily tricks you pull.
Honestly DyLighted, been watching your vids since last spring. They have come so far and this is the most hype one yet, can't wait to see what you do next!
OMG! Congrats on the win. What an intense game with everyone else at 9 points. Great content as always. Been loving these high stakes matches on twitch and here on YT.
I don't even know the rules, have never played catan, never even heard of it until one day YT randomly recommended ur channel. Epic game. Great content.
This is some OG Dylan with the comment activity. You made such good content wish the game had more traction so you would have more enticement to create content.
Bahaha the Megalovania track really drove home the 'final boss' feel of this game - I've been watching for the better part of a year now, and your video editing has gotten really impressive! Well done with this win!
I just stumbled across your channel today, and I must say: I'm sold. I've never actually watched any online boardgaming (been playing plenty irl recently though, so that's probably the algorythm working for ya). Do you also play boardgames irl? If so, what are some of your favorites and why? Love the vibe, your pauses to explain stuff, the chat,... Keep it up! Love it!
You will win this game. But I knew that since I watched the whole game on your twitch channel. What a game and a great advert for the Catan community! The best game was truly saved for the last!
yatiyati did great job editing this video! cool animation for colonist.io haha👍 love your after game analysis regarding better placement better strategies etc!🤓 this will be another video I'd watch multiple times😆😆
As a intermediate/advanced player, I and a lot of others probably would appreciate a video about how to track cards well and any techniques you use. Great videos btw, keep it up.
If you get a road building and a yop from devs and you dont build a settlement as pure ows, you deserve blue's fate! Great game, great video and congrats on the tournament win dyl!
Love the musical hype at the end! Several turns before the end, you built penultimate city, but did you consider pulling for a VP? If you had got the VP then you could have taken road for the win that turn. And if you pulled something else then the dev card would have informed what you did with the rest of your cards to maybe win the next turn?
I thought you were going to lose. I liked the video when you went into the epic monolog thinking all was lost and then the most epic win, what a video!
when you gave up 8 5 10 you gave 4th pos a potentially really strong set up, where he could've taken 8 ore 5 brick 10 sheep right road and 8 ore 5 wood 10 sheep up road, a 5 in the first few rolls would guarantee a road to get to sheep port and then just a quick trade for wheat after more of his spaces roll would let him settle and get a nice amount of wheat from sheep port since 10 isn't a terrible chance of rolling - found this channel a few days ago and already understand Catan a lot better so I really appreciate your efforts :)
@@DyLightedCatan If blue fought harder to not have you plow him on the wheat port settlement, it would’ve been a whole new game. Such a great game by all of the players and keep up the great work! ❤️
It took me 10 minutes to pick up what tune it was even though I knew I had heard it before and then I remembered it was from an old Wild West movie and I was at the height of my excitement The best western of all time the good the bad and the ugly. I saw this video on Retired Hero's UA-cam site so when Delighted asked if he would win I already knew the answer.
Awesome video! That was the closest game I've seen. I think you were drawing dead on your last pull, because green already had his two VPs, and I think Blue already had three. Blue was definitely drawing dead on his last turn. There was literally no way for him to win the game. Orange or green still could have won with a city (or green also with two more roads and a settlement). But your ports made all the difference. At the end, you could upgrade faster than them. Well played!
20:25 - He has 2 tiles of ore, both on 8. That block wouldnt stop blue from getting enough ore for dev cards, he most likely just wanted to stop as much production as possible and also steal from you.
You do have a knack for pulling out crazy wins, but ovjectively at game start I don't see you winning. I agree now with your observation that the 8-10-5 was better giving you more possibilities for a good second placement. Hope you win though
at 18:39 mark, would dropping settlement up top be better instead? In that case you can utilize the new brick port and trade for a wheat to also get a city that same turn
1:03 so the first thing that strikes me about this board is that sheep are actually strangely scarce, especially compared to ore, which got 11 pips in just three tiles. So part of me favors the idea of going with the 9 10 11, to secure strong wheat and rare-ish sheep. The ideal follow-up would be to get the 548, but that's unrealistic. I think you can be flexible here, which is really important when you're going early in the rotation. If there's a good eight ore spot left unblocked, then you can go ore wheat sheep. If not, trying to get on wood and brick (any of the many options next to the 5 brick) for the free road, and using it plus your setup's good compatibility with settlement building in order to get to a nearby port also seems like a reasonable plan. (I originally mentioned the sheep port, but if sheep are scarce then you don't really want the sheep port because you want to be trading it to other players.)
Your table talk is rather tame for playing with randoms.. I can't imagine what my conversations would be like if I could talk with the players in my matches xD
Epic!!!! It didn't seem like you could considered the wheat port until late. I thought with the wheat you were on and that it was a ploughing opportunity, it could have been worth it, despite needing to spend extra roads. You initial road could have pointed that way to make it easier. Thoughts?
I predict an L the setup is rough. Orange seems to have the best early setup but the luck of rolls comes in play. I played a game a couple of days ago where no 8s or 10s rolled the entire game and I lost as a result. Great videos very informative and helpful!
Predicting a loss. Not sure if this is metagamming but pre 5 minutes when there is a lot of commentary on mistakes, especially the 2nd settlement spot mistake it is more indicative of a loss and looking back on the game to see what to do better.
