If you're reading this and preparing for the storm to hit your area, I would like you to remember to take detailed photos of your house. Each and every room, all of your stuff. Even inside your cabinets and refrigerator. Should you come to find your house damaged, these will go a long way to helping your insurance claim when you start to recover.
Great advice!
Thanks for that very pertinent advice.
@Nancy Hollo ive lived in Florida my whole life without losing any valuables. It’s very easy to create a dry space that is impervious to hurricane ☺️
@@tampastorm We’re all very proud of you. Unfortunately, if someone hasn’t already done that, it’s too late to do so.
Also take the time to put EVERYTHING in your refrigerator and freezer in trash bags, and tie them shut so nothing will leak out. If you lose power, all you have to do is throw the bag out. Insurance companies expect you to try to clean your fridge; global supply chain issues will limit the availability of replacement refrigerators.
Anyone else refreshing the page waiting for Levi to upload the video? 😂 I don't trust anyone else.
Me too. Have watched him for many years. My first hurricane was Andrew, my latest was Michael.
Facts man. Im like leme check if he posted anything early today. This Hurricanes getting so close already
Especially the NHC!!
Yes . I hate the weather channel fear mongering. Just give me the facts. I wish we had videos every 12 hours tho
@@WisdomCalls the Weather Channel is the WORST!!
This is the way hurricane reporting should be. Levi is well prepared and very intelligent. His presentation is fantastic. If I wasn't for the fact that my house is in the direct path of Ian, I would enjoy it a lot more.
Be prepared!! Sounds both exciting and terrifying. I half wish I was there but then I’m half crazy.
LOL
🙏Praying for you!🙏🙏
Dito. I'm in North Fort Myers.
what is your plan for wed night and thursday?
Thank you brother checking in from the West Palm Beach area of Florida. We are as ready as we can be we are praying for our brothers and sisters in the rest of the state especially over on the West Coast. Everybody stay safe. Thank you so much
Hello from Delray Beach, and Deerfield Beach.
I need to remind my future self to turn off the tv and stay off the blogs-just listen to Levi and heed his advice and the NHC. He should be commended for giving us reasoned facts with detailed explanations and no hype. Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge, you are appreciated!
Yep. I live on Cozumel and people here were freaking out....I was calm as calm can be and kept telling people to watch tropical tidbits!!
My heart just breaks for everyone in the path. Hoping everyone heeds advice .
Oh please. Lmao. You must be a good person lol.
@@Booksaplenty1 you are a rude, ignorant asshole. Get outta the comments section please. My daughter is in Tampa Bay!!How is ANY of this a “Lmao” moment??!!
F OFF!!!!
@@Booksaplenty1 I think the word would be empathetic..
Great information and detailed explanations. As a 45 year veteran of many Florida Hurricanes while living in the Keys, Miami, Broward and now Jacksonville areas I eagerly await your next videos and have been following for years now. I highly recommend to everyone who wants to closely follow Hurricane season developments and individual storms. Keep up the great work Levi, it's much appreciated.
Thanks, Levi; we have been following you on Tropical Tidbits since you were a graduate student. You have the finest analyses of all issues hurricane, and we appreciate your diligence and dedication.
This is one of the most comprehensive weather reports I’ve heard this season “no hoopla,no DDJ/DDW , no insecurities ,but honest easy to be understood by non graduated from university in weather matters regular citizen !!👏👏👏👏Thank you Sir!👍
As always your insight is greatly appreciated, it's very straightforward yet detailed, and very well explained! Especially when some of the media stations are giving exaggerated and sometimes even inaccurate information.
Can you be specific about what details media stations are exaggerating or lying about with this particular storm? And if you're unable to be specific then correct your own exaggerated lie about media stations.
@@saladsalad9991 About an hour before this video was posted there was a graphic on TWC titled either "Likely Wind Speeds" or "Probable Wind Speeds", and with a timeline going out to Thursday it had absolutely nobody with higher than 50-60 mph from Naples to Clearwater. 100% inaccurate information.
And that storm surge graphic they show every hour, claiming that your house will be completely submerged underwater with 9ft storm surge. While well intentioned to convince people to evacuate from a deadly situation, it's pure exaggeration. Here in FL the rivers, drainage canals, and retention ponds are absolutely everywhere and they are at or slightly above sea level due to the water table. Because of that all residential structures are built above sea level.
@@trevorrenson372 It sounds like you're observing TV anchors relaying the same information directly from NHC forecasts and you're misinterpreting it as exaggeration and lies.
@@saladsalad9991 How about the fact that the storm has been moving NNE for the last 6 hours and they have kept saying it's moving due North for the last few updates. Or that they have pretty much declared that it's going to hit Tampa for the last few days even though that hasn't happened in 110 years and odds are that it would hit farther south. This thing is pulling a Hurricane Charlie and because the media pretty much declared that Tampa Bay would be hit, people to the south have not taken this storm seriously. People are going to get hurt because of this because they were told they shouldn't see much of this storm, when in reality, they're probably going to be facing cat 3 conditions. I've lived in Naples, FL my entire life and have been watching this storm since it was a tropical depression. It's going to get really rough here and I've watched everyone in my city do next to nothing because they're "not in the cone". The media, especially NOAA and the NHS, needs to do a better job.
@@saladsalad9991 The NHC is insanely strict with weather anchors and station meteorologists. They're not allowed to deviate from what the NHC is saying. When Hurricane Charlie (which this storm is mirroring nearly identically) was approaching FL, we had a local WINK TV meteorologist named Jim Reefe. He was an amazing meteorologist and saw that Charlie wasn't going to do what the NHC was saying. He went on air and announced that Charlie was likely to make a turn east and, instead of hitting Tampa Bay, it would go up Port Charlotte. He did this well ahead of the turn and likely saved alot of people's lives and property. And he ended up being 100% correct. And instead of congratulating him or giving him his due credit for being right when all of the "experts" were wrong, the NHC seriously reprimanded him for going against what they were saying.
I've been through 4 major hurricanes and the NHC has been wrong on 3 of them. Charlie wasn't supposed to hit us, Wilma wasn't supposed to hit us, and Irma wasn't supposed to hit us. They need to do better
The lights are going to be out in Florida for a while. I'm anticipating needing a week at least to get power back in NE Florida alone.
Exceptional discussion, as usual. During a time of hype on every issue, you focus on facts and analysis, the items that count. Thank you!
Thank you for your insights! I find your information the easiest to understand.
Definitely, and the most comprehensive. I knew we were supposed to get rain in Virginia at the weekend but until watching this update it didn’t click that it will be from Ian’s system.
Thanks, my parents are sitting in Cape Coral… They flew down on Saturday and I’m not sure why they went down. They could’ve just had the neighbors lock up the house for them… cool 😒
Much gratitude coming from S. Titusville, FL. You are appreciated, Levi!🙄
I am in Titusville too!
Cocoa here too.
Melbourne Beach is gonna fire when this passes
North Port here… thanks, very worried about storm surge. Just found your channel. I’ll be watching as long as I can.
Praying for everyone in Florida! But I wish I knew more of what it's gonna do in south carolina! I'm in between Beaufort and Charleston
First Time visitor .. very insightful discussion.
Levi, thanks again for a great video that helps people understand things better! Have been following you since you had your website, TT yrs ago. Your videos have improved so much over the years 🤩 Our son was at FSU and knew of you. That's how long we've followed you! I share your channel with everyone I know in FL to get accurate, calm info during hurricane season. You're awesome, Levi 💕
Thank you Dr Levi
Been a wet ride here in KW, flooding with tides as expected
Hoping wind drives rain over us as time goes by to help with flooding even if just by a bit
Tomorrow will be tell all
Stay safe everyone
Amazing work Levi. I link your videos to everyone any chance I get. This is how weather reporting should be.
The best concise information I have seen at all about Hurricane Ian. Thank you!!!
Cheers, a good part of my team is based in Tampa and these updates are the best available
Thank you, much better info than the media stations
I'm here in Punta Gorda, just south of Sarasota! We're all prepared but may have to evacuate due to storm surge. We're only a block away from Charlotte Harbor, so flood zone. Prayers for everyone in Florida!💔
Its been trending slightly E of the forecast track, basically hugging the right side of the cone. So much so that the NHC issued a position update at 1PM. You can track it on Key West radar. Those south of Tampa need to pay attention. Thankfully for now the wind field is still pretty small only 35 miles out.
I don't always need detailed information about strong weather, but when I do I listen to the excellent coverage from Tropical Tidbits. Thank you Levi.
Charge your cell phones, bring in your animals, get coal for the bbq (no electric)...or buy/make some ready-made food. Water supply, medications, batteries, and of course, flashlights or battery lanterns....and git yer smokes now!!
Btw, this was the most on target forecast they've had yet.
Great job.
At 5:30, "hitting it in the rear", did anyone else think of that Dolphins punt?
It's the Humpty Dumpty of Hurricane's. Just sitting here very close to the mid-Central East coast of Florida waiting for the non-fun. I shared your last video with an older relative whose wife has a son in Bradenton. That is not a good area to be getting this kind of weather. Thank you! 😉
This is the way news should be reported, not just hurricanes and tropical depressions.
Thank you so much for your info...I get so excited for your updates. I greatly respect your opinions and views. Especially with this nasty storm.
Thank you Levi ! You by far are the most professional broadcaster out there. You have a calming voice in such a panic situation. ;-) God Bless Florida!
thanks from orlando!
Have just started following you Levi, really great work! Hurricane news reporters could learn a lot from this. Keep it up! (From a Brit)
Nice work - very helpful.
If that Hurricane is entering the Gulf as a Cat 3.. that is really bad.. I thought it would decrease in strength coming off of Cuba's landmass, but if it's entering the gulf as a cat 3.. that's some scary spit. Living in Louisiana and just getting hit hard last year, I pray it don't come this way, but i also pray for everyone in Fla as well. My advice is get the hell out of there. I also hope there's lots of energy companies and other emergency assistance that's in the surrounding areas out of the path, in que on standby waiting for it to pass to immediately assist the Floridians, or where ever this monster hit. I know how extremely miserable and frustrating rebuilding and recovering can be. Oh, and i really hope people have really good insurance. It's a frustrating process after such disasters but i can assure you you'll count your blessings.
Hide your valuables in your dishwasher and lock it if you have one. Wishing everyone love and light.
Thank you for saving lives!! God bless 🙏 Florida God bless America 🇺🇸 🙏
Thanks for the info nicely done prayers for all in the path of this storm please be safe if you can leave then leave ! property isn't worth your life
Thank you so much Levi.
I feel better knowing what to expect for Ormond Beach.
Praying for all of Florida.
Every one stay safe
God bless you
Excellent as always. You're my go to source for insightful information. When a hurricane is approaching Florida I always go to Tropical Tidbits.
Appreciate these videos, riding out the storm from Daytona Beach, still remember how much Irma sucked ( lived in Orlando back then ). This one looks to be a huge rain maker.
Gonna rain today tomorrow and Thursday. Flooding is going to be a nightmare here
Thanks from Brevard FL
You made the Drudge Report! Congratulations!
Greetings from soggy SW Florida. Thank you
Thank you as always for your great videos.
Watching from Tally and hoping for the best for everyone in range of the storm.
Thanks for update. I'm in central FL. All prepped and ready.
Well, guess I'm as prepared as I can be, praying for those in Cuba and all of us in Florida, thank you so much Levi 👍 ✝️
My moms house is right off Charlotte harbor on a canal.. super worried! 😟 also hoping our rv doesn't get washed into the canal... scary times! But moms safely away from the storm, wish her house was too! 🙏
Ty for your updates! You explain things so clearly! Ty!!
EXCELLENT analysis here from someone who obviously understands hurricanes. Much appreciated.
Levi, thank you for your time, dedication and expertise in these videos.
Thank you Dr. Cowan for your wise explanations
Thank you for all the info!
if you’re evacuating, put everything in your fridge in trash bags, to make cleaning up afterwards quick and easy.
Thank you Sir for all your time and effort looking out for us.
so sad to have no reports from Cuba.
I'll tell you, on your Global Models, those blue lines, UKMI, UKXI, EGR have been almost on point thru all of Ian. They have been consistently in the area from Bradenton down to Charlotte Harbor.
Levi is the man
I left for the UK the week of the 20th, did not see this coming, i hope my home and my family is ok when i come back to it…. stay safe my fellow floridians❤️
Thanks for the vid.
We already got 4 inches of rain yesterday and at least another 4 on the way today and some more Wednesday and Thursday.
Thank you for the update. ☺
Thank you for your coverage
The much cooler winds coming out the north over Deep South La heading to the gulf today was impressive. That storm is ramping up quickly now..
From Tampa, currently in Nassau, Bahamas.
Excellent coverage Levi
Merci beaucoup for this, Levi. Great work.
finally someone answered a lot of my questions
Thank you for the report. We live in Sebring Florida.
Please stay safe, people!🙏🙏🙏
Was waiting on you! Fort Pierce Florida here!
Wow, that's a big eye. This is going to cause a whole lot of damage if it doesn't weaken.
So Tampa traded a little bit of storm surge for a whole lot of rain. Not sure if that’s a good trade off or not 😢
Are you gonna do another video this morning, Wed. To talk about Ian's track across FL and what the thinking is after?
As long as you make content, I will watch. Thank you.
Thank you for what you do!!
Been watching for two years
You are the best
Shorter time shorter distance means definitely not Cat 1 at landfall. Should come right over my head eventually using this new track.
Hi, will you post videos only daily or more frequently with the current state of the storm?
Thanks for your info 🙏
Stay strong Florida, you got this!
This is just awful situation. Not only landfall but almost stall right over Tampa. Ian is heading into a very populated area. This is asking for a very big trouble. Wouldn't surprise me if Ian ends up worst since Hurricane Maria when it slammed Puerto Rico back in 2017. Big problem is very little weakening after landfall in Cuba when Ian weakened to just 115. Another rapid intensification is possible. If it does, wouldn't surprise me if it ends up strong Category 4 or even Category 5. Currently a lot of lightning already in the Gulf right after the eyewall of Ian entered the Gulf of Mexico which is indicating a strengthening storm, possibly at a rapid strength. Like I said, we do not want a rapid strength just like Typhoon Noru. Storm surge will only get higher if it does reach Category 5!!! There is a lot of lightning all around the eyewall of Ian!!!!!! That is sign of currently rapid intensification little earlier than I even thought after Cuba landfall.
I'm working on the power lines down here.
Let's goooo
Thanks for your excellent information. We appreciate your calm manner.
The one and only. Love ya man.
Sadly I think we can see someone getting over 2 feet of rain if it slows down that much
Thanks again Levi. You're the best!
Thank you so much this was very informative
Just signed on from Lakeland, Fl.. thanx Levi!
Is it gonna be bad there?
Always love Levi's analysis. Thank you
Key Largo here. ...it's getting uncomfortably close
Hurricane Watch here in Orlando!
Excellent coverage as usual Dr. Cowan!
Thanks Levi!!
Fantastic update! Thank you!
Thanks for the update...
wow these are some timely updates.... yeah this is why you're on youtube
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Thank you doc!
