Levi has been a model for clear explanations and responsible rhetoric in tropical storm forecasting for years. I've learned so much from this channel about weather, but also how to be a good communicator. Thank you so much for this work!
‼️‼️ This has got to be the best channel I’ve ever found concerning hurricanes and storms,, I just subscribed. Thank you sir for all the Accurate and important information .👍 Your early information can really help people to get prepared or evacuate.
This definitely is THE best channel for tropical weather.
I found you last year before we got hit by hurricane Sally. Thank YOU for ALL the work & updates you do!! You are the Best !!
Everyone in Louisiana please Prepare, Supplies, & Evacuate if possible.🙏❤️
Bracing ourselves for a nasty storm here in south Louisiana. Thank you for always keeping me updated. I love your explanations of things
@Bruh What haha nah we don't leave here.
@@BasicBrucatos
You might wanna change your mind with this one…!!!!
@@richardstevens5961 you are right! This one is a little scary.
@@BasicBrucatos
Not to be an alarmist but this would be the perfect time to be scared.
Take actions now my friend because this thing could roar ashore with 140mph winds.
This is gonna be a storm which changes the landscape and topography, and which unfortunately will bring a LOT of deaths and destruction in its wake.
@@richardstevens5961 I 100% agree with what you're saying. We had a tough time with delta last year and this one is 2 times worse. I do not live on the coast but we can potentially see some 100 mph winds. That's extremely alarming.
Thank you Levi for another responsible update.
This is going to be bad for New Orleans
This is not meant to scare people but in August of 1969, Hurricane Camille was on basically the same path ... going over the western tip of Cuba as a Category 1 storm.... it passes over the loop current in the gulf and in 24 hours it’s a Category 5....if that were to happen, there’s not enough time to get everyone out...
In 1969 they had inaccurate forecasts, poor distribution of information, shorter warning and a highway system with only a fraction of the current capacity. Not a valid comparison. Did you forget about Katrina already?!?!
@Andrew Leavitt ... Here in New Orleans in 1969 we had Nash Roberts so that statement “inaccurate forecasts” isn’t valid... they won’t be contraflow evacuation for this Storm like there was in 2005 for Katrina.... Not enough time...
@Andrew Leavitt ... I certainly didn’t forget about Katrina in 2005... I was one of the last to leave...I left 12 hours before it hit but when I left they were doing contraflow....NOT THIS STORM ... I didn’t come upon another vehicle until I drove more than 20 miles...The interstate in New Orleans is not a whole lot different outside the city limits than it was in ‘69...
Yeah, La. and Ms. must pay for not flipping their electoral votes to whomever They have playing the part of Joe Biden.
Thinking about those of you in the path and praying for safety, sincerly. Thank for all of your time and effort, Levi.
Bro we need you to drop another video today 😭
Every hurricane that had an "I" name has been retired. I named storms do not mess around.
Because hurricane names beginning with an 'I' tend to happen at the peak of hurricane season.
@@a.randomjack6661 And there's that. Good point.
@@a.randomjack6661 Or is it because those hurricanes have a big “I” (eye)
@@drdrew3 Eye don't know :)
@@a.randomjack6661 It's possible... AYE!
I found Levi in 2004. He is the Man!! His information is clear, understandable, and I’ve never have seen him wrong. I love Levi💞
Says the channel was created 2009
@@allen5184 lol!
If he's a member of the m
If he's a member of the ams he's under a gag order. True story.
My Comunity was hit by a cat 4 in 2004. Levi didn’t have the channel he does now. He was the ONLY one that said Charlie was coming to Port Charlotte. Don’t care what anybody says. He literally saved my house and my ass. Thank you Levi. At the time he was living in Alaska. Have been following him ever since. 💞
15 inches of rain is more comparable to Katrina than Laura. People need to take this storm seriously.
Not sure but it's 16 years to the day Katrina made landfall. August 29th
So worried that the intensification is gunna be ultra rapid.... thanks for the video.
It's a possibility but it's gonna be strong enough without rapid intensification
You'll never see (15%) a storm intensify into a hurricane before making landfall on Cuba again.
Unless it's gb... I can see that, maybe.
It’s around 5:30pm in Atlanta on Friday. The difference in Ida from yesterday at this time to today, is remarkable. Ida looks to become a monster in the Gulf. Please batten down the hatches, pack the critters and family, and get OUT of Ida’s path! The storm looks to be headed right into all those southern Louisiana marshes that helped mitigate storms in decades past, but can’t be renewed fast enough. Thanks, Levi for the updates!
Thank you Levi! Great breakdown giving those in harms way the needed info to make their preparations/plans!
Currently in the red zone, we are evacuating now. Everyone stay safe! 💙
thank you for updating us watching from houston texas God Bless us all
2:15 that's cute how they flew in the shape of a plane
Ikr... Ugh
Symbolism should be their downfall.
Thanks, Levi! Hope HI treating you well.
Thanks always for the updates. I just saw your picture on your Twitter profile. It's nice to see the face behind the voice. :)
I can see that a warm swath of water over the Gulf will help make this storm intensify quickly. Could easily be a Cat 3/4
As of 1:30pm today it's already a Cat 1. Just got upgraded
became a cat. 1 at approximately 1:17 eat
Now forecast to be a Cat 4 for an entire 24 hours prior to landfall. 140mph sustained winds. Stay tuned
@@drdrew3 wow...
Worried about tornadoes in East TN! Hope everyone on the coast evacuates...
Tornadoes formed by hurricanes tend to be weak. I would be more worried about flooding near streams and rivers.
@@icyflows yea the tn valley floods easy
Thanks for this update, from Mississippi.
Please look out for those out of money till Sept.1 evacuation is tough.
Thank You for the video. Blessings and Prayers for those in the track.
At the risk of being repetitive, thank you Dr. Levi.
Thank you for the update, please let folks take heed and leave while they can, be safe everyone, prayers
I'd be surprised if Ida isn't a C-5 or too damn close to it at landfall. I'd be thinking seriously about getting as far east as possible before the rush.
One other guidance not usually used is the NHC wind history track. The centre is likely to be within the fan plot, but you have to add the width of the storm from the wind history to that. As normal, more wind is to the front right (northeast in this case) than the left. If the centre were to go as far east as the right edge of the fan, around Biloxi, then the storm would stretch from New Orleans to Mobile Bay. But that's only one extreme.
tt you the man its been years but im glad we meet again
Thanks for your updates Levi
Thanks from New Orleans!!!! We appreciate your knowledge #LetsgoLevi
Y’all evacuating? We’re tryin to figure out our options. West Bank here.
@Christina Abror .... this is not meant to scare people but in August of 1969 Hurricane Camille was on the same path basically as IDA.... going over the western tip of Cuba as a Category 1 storm....It goes over the loop current in the gulf and explodes to a Category 5 in 24 hours... If IDA does the same thing tomorrow - there’s not enough time to get everyone out...I’ve left Metairie and went to Covington to be away from that Contraflow traffic if it does EXPLODE....When I evacuated for Katrina, I left 12 hours before landfall...6PM on Sunday the 28th and it took 6 hours to get to Saucier Mississippi- 15 miles north of Gulfport...and I was one of the last to leave from Metairie
Outstanding as usual. Thank you
Prayers for everyone affected! Please stay safe 🙏🏻
Thanks for your great work.
The Katrina flashbacks are strong. And around the same time of year too..
16 years ago to the day
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I like how you explain the science behind storm development.
Excellent presentation!!! Informational!! Credible! Bravo!
Im very very worried Ida could be like Laura 2.0.....this thing had the potential to be an absolute monster!! I just hope cuba can cause some sort of disruption
I'm very very very worried that you are very very worried.
It's shifting too fast for Cuba to do much. If you're in the target zone, there's time to batten down the hatches and get clear. If you don't, the consequences are on your own head.
A further point is to get help into Tennessee.
It didn't ):
I’m very very worried that you forgot about Katrina and instead compare to last year’s lesser storms
@@drdrew3 that is very very true. The suffering endured by victims of Katrina are far beyond what Laura did, and hurricane lives matter.
Good luck to anyone in the way of the storm. I hope your prepped.
Love you Levi your the best 👍🏻
Agree. I named storms seem to get very potent. Irma, Ivan, Isabel, Ines, Isodore.
Levi the BEST!!!
Thx
Thank you Levi from New Orleans!!😳
Thank you.
Thanks, Levi.
thnx!!!
Thankfully this channel is around. Because those clowns on New Orleans local news have their heads firmly rooted in their rear ends.
I was just on the cmiss website and I looked at the ohc and was like uh oh.
thanks mate

Northshore of SE Louisiana here. Hoping we don't get hammered by a CAT4 or 5
wont be dangerous for me as i am in atlanta...prayers for everybody
Where does one get access to deep water ocean temps like the one you showed of the Gulf in this video?
Stormy!
I don't think I've ever seen two hurricanes plotted on the same map before. Nora headed straight up the Gulf of California, Ida for New Orleans on the anniversary of Katrina. What the tidal surge up the Gulf will be with no way for it to escape out the sides, I shudder to think!
Can someone explain to me what Levi means when he uses the word "aloft" in the context of these videos? He says it a lot, and I don't quite grasp the exact meaning of it.
Hi Levi. As a casual observer and follower of yours for quite some time, I am interested in what you think about the jet dynamics with this storm as per your presentation on the research you did for the topic. Thanks!
There's not much of a jet interaction in this case - the jet stream is up over the northern U.S. right now. Later in the autumn we tend to get more TC-jet interactions as the jet strengthens and dips farther south toward the tropics.
Tt is right, this is being ginned up almost exclusively with elf and ulf transmitters.
This is gonna be the biggest one of the year! Be prepared guys!
Don't speak too soon..
Projection now up to 140 mph
Levi👍
SENDING PRAYERS TO ALL IN HER WAY! Instead of politicians spending our money foolishly they need to give it to study hurricanes and stop these life threatening storms.
There is no way to stop these storms. We can only try to get better at predicting where they go.
I have heard some speculation of a dennis type track will that high pressure system dip low enough to keep this storm off the florida, alabama border. I know sometimes with storm going into RI they tend to bend east I believe and this storm has had an eastern track from past models.
Its been tracking west for 4 model runs
@@kaleighmarie5824 which is very interesting. It would have more time over the warm water's if it does take a more Westward Track, So maybe Texas and Louisiana is in for a Major Storm!
Why has the NOAA stopped using the Saffir-Simpson Scale on the daily Advisory and Forecast page for Hurricanes? This storm currently goes from S to H to M to H to S ?? What does that mean? Especially after M? There is a lot of margin in the M category.
The still use the Saffir Simpson scale, this is just to simplify things. S is tropical storm (
This is going to get windy....
Yes the 2pm hurricane Ida now at 987 mb's she got her act together quickly very sorry Gulf Coast.
Semper Paratus
Reed Timmer and Gizmo are going to meet Ida with his science tools, surge markers etc.
Doesnt look very positive for rain my way, maybe the next one...
Levi if it were up to you what resources do you think we should start staging?
You should already know. Especially if you live in its path.
Critical thinking.
85 degree waters in the golf of Mexico will likely strength
What are they going to do with all the hospitals in LA and MS full of people on ventilators??
Oxygen, ventilators and electric repair crews are already en route. This has been a contingency plan since last year. This is already the SECOND hurricane system during this pandemic
Willing to bet it's already a hurricane
IDA is going to hit on Sunday.... August 29, is the anniversary of Katrina....16 years ago....
hurricane michael probably faced more shear then this storm will face and only grew into a cat 5...
Something I've been wondering for some time now... how much does the topography come into play with hurricanes that reach the central gulf coast? It just seems to me that bc the Mississippi river valley is the lowest land around, there'd be less resistance at sea level. That said, it also makes sense to me that LA being smack dab in the middle of the coast just makes it more likely to be hit overall. So, is there ANY steering effect from land in this area?
No. Land does not steer hurricanes
And yes. Valleys are more susceptible to flooding.
And no. A central location of the Gulf doesn’t make Louisiana more of a target. The hurricane can’t see man made geographical borders. Louisiana just has a huge coastline compared to Louisiana and Mississippi. Historically Texas gets hit just as often (just not recently). And the media much rather talk about New Orleans since Katrina. Brownsville Texas just doesn’t sound as sexy.
The steering comes from the elf, vlf, and ulf transmitters, land and satellite based.
@@jcksnghst Hahaha - You can always set the clock when someone comes up with that BS
@@Cl4rendon ?
WOOO HOOOOOOOOO GET SOME
I'm wondering will the eye wall shift?
There are no significant steering currents to make the eye wall shift. But the eye of a major hurricane will oscillate and go through repeated break down and reformation cycles
The eyewall is predicated by the elf, vlf, and ulf transmitters.
2:06 That looks like an airplane drawing by a 5 year old.
It has gotten worse in the last few hours. This is notgoodnotgoodnotgood
Katrina #2 incoming
You FAILED the dry run.
If you fail THIS TIME...
There is NO going back.
Tropical Tidbits is getting some Serious Name recognition on (Agenda-free tv) !!😃 Thats Awsome!!
Why are my comments being deleted?
Ida is doom. If it shifts East even about 20-30 miles, may put me squarely into tropical storm conditions. I'm thinking cat 4-5. I'm def hoping for a small. shift East new Orleans is in deep trouble currently
Get your row boat dusted off.
Good luck to everyone.
Ive been watching yoru videos since you had like 1k subs, and I consider my diction to be way above average, and Im still not sure if your f**king with me sometimes with this terminology lol.
The way this is looking to landfall isn't there a huge potential for storm surge for new Orleans & Mississippi coasts ?? Should New Orleans & Mississippi officials start seriously discussing evacuations??
Orleans Parish has issued Mandatory Evacuations for people outside of the Levee System.
@@thunderstrikes4631 thank you & thanks to them they are trying to save lives
@@miamidolphinsfan You're welcome. I found this on WDSU. I think it helps with some of the Parishes and their evacuation orders. Some parishes in Southeast Louisiana have announced voluntary and mandatory evacuations ahead of Ida's landfall this weekend.
The Lafourche Parish president has ordered a voluntary evacuation for people in low-lying areas of the parish.

This includes mobile homes and RVs, according to the parish president.
The parish president is asking all residents to monitor the storm.
Port Fourchon is also recommending an evacuation.
Jefferson Parish announced a mandatory evacuation for the Town of Jean Lafitte, Lower Lafitte, Crown Point, Grand Isle and Barataria.
The order goes into effect at 9:30 a.m.
Residents are advised to bring vehicles, boats and campers to higher ground as the storm is expected to bring high tides and heavy rainfall to the area.
Plaquemines Parish has ordered a mandatory evacuation for some areas of the parish.
Mandatory Evacuation will be ordered for the following areas:
The entire East Bank of Plaquemines Parish
West Bank of Plaquemines Parish from Phillips 66 Alliance Refinery to Venice.
Orleans Parish called for a mandatory evacuation for areas outside of the levee protection system and a voluntary evacuation for anyone inside the levee protection system.
St. Charles Parish President Matthew Jewell has ordered a recommended evacuation for all of St. Charles Parish and a mandatory evacuation for areas with limited levee protection including Bayou Gauche Island, Kerry’s Point, Cajun Paradise and Lower Des Allemands. Residents choosing to evacuate should leave no later than Saturday evening.
