    I've been crocheting for about 3 maybe 4 years now, I taught myself basics from a stitch guide, YT has been my teacher for about 3 years. I love this shawl and your skills are amazing you teach with such a calm manner. I have learned so much from teachers like yourself and I appreciate the hard work that goes into making these helpful videos. Thank you.

  • @JAWs313
    @JAWs313 3 роки тому

    Im so glad you have put this video guide out there, because there are several instructions kissing from the written pattern, which would have left you missing side skulls, or only half a skull and stuff, so although I assumed that it was done a particular way, it was a relief to be able to come here, watch it being made and see what you did in the parts that were missing from the pattern, since you aren't following the pattern yourself to make it, you're doing it all from memory.
    So if anyone is making this, make sure once you have done half a row, that the 2nd half is pretty much done the same way...follow what is done in the video, more so than the pattern.

    It’s a beautiful pattern and a great tutorial, however working with Caron Simply Soft yarn is a beast. I’ve been crocheting for over 20 years and know how to chain neatly and hold my tension and this yarn slips and twists and snags so much it’s annoying. I had to switch to Lions Brand yarn, which worked up much better.

    I have watched and followed you forever...you are a great teacher, your voice is very calm. I hope you make a blanket someday, with the skulls. I am making this now for Halloween and I am draping it on the table. A square or oblong would be better, but it will look pretty spooky (This is my husband (Roberts) email account...I am Linda 🌸

    question....wouldn't the chain three that you end with on each row before you turn work, count as the 1st double crochet of the shell? Being each shell is made up of 2 double crochet 1 single crochet then 2 double crochet. Just wondering if it would make the edges look neater and less bulky? or maybe it is designed the way it is to give it more of a boarder? I can't read patterns as they are just too confusing. Oh, and this is an AWESOME tutorial! You did a great job! Thank you!

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  7 років тому

      +Lilstarrsxoxo Garcia you know I thought the same thing!!!
      But the edges are supposed to have a lacy look.
      I had to message the pattern writer when making mine.

    Thanks for the video. It has made understanding the pattern easier. I am wondering about the best yarn choice though. I have my first attempt in Caron cotton cakes - a cotton acrylic blend, but the drape seems a bit stiff. Perhaps it will become better after blocking...also I am wondering on how to modify the pattern into a cardigan type garment. Really, just a rectangle would do, but the base has me stumped. I was thinking a chain long enough for each piece followed by a row of single or maybe double then going into the motif.

    Happy that I found this pattern! As a newbie in crochet easy to understand. But do you have a tip to prevent the work from curling? Mostly at the 3 chains, makes me wanna put an iron on it 🙈 Bigger hook maybe? I keep starting over and over again because to me, it's nog flat enough.

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  Рік тому

      You might try not chaining as tightly. Planing to block your work is good too. I like to pull mine out and lay it flat to rest when I’m not working on it.
      You can definitely go up a hook size if you like. The yarn makes a big difference in this pattern as well.

    I have watched your tutorial and thank you so much. I have wrote the instructions down on paper. I’m a beginner and not totally sure how to read a pattern. The shawl pattern is free, but am I allowed to put the easy beginner pattern on Facebook. I will not be selling my version and it’s exactly the same pattern. I don’t want to get into any copyright trouble, thank you for reading this

      Hello! Thank you for watching my tutorial. You can keep the things you have written for yourself but please do not post to Facebook. This would be infringing on the designers work.
      You can put a link to this tutorial on Facebook or the original written pattern link from Ravelry.
      Thank you for double checking before doing so.
      Have fun making this shawl.
