    An absolute shame that the old jetty is left to wrack and ruin !!
    Fond memories of camping on that Jetty !

      Great memories on the old jetty. Different sections of that jetty held different fish and some deep fishing holes at the end of the T. Spent many nights and days fishing there

    Really enjoyed the sequence of your vlog - from detailed and easy-to-follow rigging up in your garage/shed to an awesome little session at a top-looking location. More videos please, David!! Bream fishing, surf fishing, squidding, tommies, gars - I love it all! I would also love to see you detailing the rods and reels you use as well as rod holders, rod rests, your fish bag, nets etc with links on where to get them and DIY tips regarding your hungry bag (fish shoulder bag) etc, etc. Big like from me! Have been fishing for 38 years and never get tired of learning from others. So glad I stumbled upon your channel!!

    Good evening David, its an honour to watch your fishing videos. I remember fishing that majestic original rapid bay jetty one time in my early 20's and it was a winters day there's certainly a vibe about that old jetty that has a special place in my mind with lights above as you walk the jetty and looking out further towards the end with the excitement heading towards the t shape end and finally fishing it... Hello Dave
    I have just started watching your UA-cam channel. I have enjoyed watching your fishing adventures. I appreciate your generosity in sharing tackle and techniques. I am also from Old Blighty. My family emigrated in 1968. I’m recently retired, and I’m getting back into fishing, now I have the time. I live in Newcastle NSW. There are many good fishing spots here and in Port Stephens. You live in a beautiful part of South Australia. It’s been nice to watch you fish and cook. I’ve just made some of your burley. I’ll try it out next week. Question 1: Do they fish for Luderick in SA? Question 2: Do people say you look like Donald Pleasence?

      Thank you, pretty cool hearing from Syros Island Greece. the fishing on this jetty in the rough sea can be good but the water can get very dirty and then it isn't too good so manily its a nice weather fishing location, and high tide is good also the run out tide is good fishing for garfish tommies and squid. Nice to hear from you again Antonis and you to have a Happy New Year and good fishing.

    Is the tommy rig heavy enough with the berley I guess and not casting it too far?

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, with light 6lb to 12lb nylon line or equivalent diameter braid the Tommy rig with only a burley spring casts easily from jetty's also if fishing off rocks into deep water its good, with burly squeezed in even better. If it's really windy or a strong current you may need to add a very small sinker to your burley spring but it's usually fine without a sinker. You will be surprised how far this rig will cast. All the best with your fishing and hope this has helped.

  • @Drift13Creations
    @Drift13Creations 7 місяців тому

    Awesome video! Is there a reason youdont go with a sinker?

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi thank you, yes there is a reason. I find just the weight of the burley spring is heavy enough plus a little bit heavier with the burley squeezed into it. The lesser weight allows your baited fishing rig to sink slower through the water column to the bottom. I should have explained that in this video it is a very good question. Tommy Ruffs (Australian Herring) generally feed from mid depth of the water to the surface you can still catch them at the bottom but the surface to mid depth of water is the best area most of the time. When I cast into the water I don't let my fishing rig sink straight down to the bottom I click the fishing reel bail arm over and feel my line for bites as my baited rig slowly sinks down, when the Tommies are there it doesn't take long to get a bite the fishing can be quite fast and exciting. on this video I do mention sinkers at 22:00. thank you for your question I hope I have helped and when I get back into videoing I shall mention this. Cheers David

    Hey mate, love your videos. Just to be clear, you don't bother with flurocarbon leader for audtralian herring eh? Just mono is good enough? Not an issue with visibility?

    • @davidsheldonfishing9726
      @davidsheldonfishing9726  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Sam, thank you. Mono a good quality is fine 6lb-12lb with no visibility problems but as always the lighter the better. Sometimes they can be fussy especially before the numbers increase when you start fishing for them. When they are fussy they love small pieces of peeled tweed prawn are my favourite, and when they are really biting I find maggots the best.

      @davidsheldonfishing9726 thanks for the reply, Dave. I grew up fishing until my early 20s when I became a vegetarian for 23 years. When I (and my family) started eating fish again, I wanted to catch it all, so I knew it was fresh, being dispatched humanely, and iced so it wad the best quality. I've been back on the rod for about 5 months now - fish at least 3 times a week, and have fallen in love with it again. It was a hard 23 years not fishing, but I'm glad to be back! I'm adept at squidding but with all the technology changes, it's been a learning curve. Using braid and fluro with an FG knot wasn't something we ever had when I was younger and boy it makes catching squid fun.
      I've been wondering if I should just use mono for a herring leader as it's so much cheaper than fluro.
      I make killer burley cages attached through a sealed champagne cork for herring fishing above a circle hook. Fun times. Can I send you a couple in the post as a thank-you?

      @@allbunsglazing that's a great story, wow no fishing for 23 years. It's so rewarding going fishing treating the fish the way you mentioned and then feeding the family the best protein available. Nice to hear your little girl woofs it down, she knows what's good for her and so do you getting back out there fishing. Squid fishing I personally do have a chuckle about all of the new modern ways to fish for them I can see the wow factor for somebody totally new to squid fishing. Also fluro it definitely good for fishing when you need a robust leader or trace for big fish or rock fishing or a harder to see fishing line for them tricky to catch fish, but for most of my fishing I can manage without. Your burley spring floats sound great I do appreciate you offering to post me some out but the post could be expensive this is my P\O box number but I understand if the post is deer and you don't send them. I mention that you have to wrap the loop down your line twice and then pass the loop back up through the eye that forms by doing that, if you only wrap the loop once down your line and back through the loop it will pull out, watch carefully and you shall see, wow you do have a long way to drive from Tea Tree Plaza, it is nice down hear. good luck with your rig tying it will all come together. Hi ENIS, I shall do my best replying your comment and it is nice being asked by someone from Turkey. I do have a video showing how I make the burley shown in this video it's called How to make burley for Garfish, Tommy ruff, Mullet and Bream etc. the ingredients are CURRY POWDER, GARLIC POWDER, PARMESAN CHEESE, ANISEED OIL,BREAD CRUMBS, BRAN, POLLARD, SUGAR, and TUNA OIL, watch if you like to see how I put it all together when it is made spread it out and make sure it is dry properly before storing in a container it will keep for a long time as you use it. When you take it fishing add a bit of water and mix until it combines so you can squeeze into a burley spring or steadily throw small balls into the water where you are fishing, it is very good for a lot of species of fish from surface midwater to bottom fish. For sea bass I would just use Pilchards for burley squeezed into a burley spring, I also have a video showing How To Make A Burley spring you might find interesting. I'm not sure what you mean at the second part of your comment but I do hope I have answered some of your comment correctly....CHEERS DAVID.
