Still got Stone and Kashiwa with him here, plus that wonderful, insane, glorious percussionist! Russ Freeman is a virtuoso and one of the most underappreciated musical geniuses out there. Love the Rippingtons!
KIM STONE on Bass!!! Love this Tune!!! :UPDATE: Nov 1st 2022 still listening to this almost everyday!!! being a bassist myself I just Love Kims Tone here!🔥
The Rippingtons are crazy good. They are so tight and fresh. I've seen some amazing musicians (like Pat Metheny) who don't come close to making me as happy as The Rippingtons do.
I honestly cannot find anything that is NOT worthwhile to listen to with the Rippingtons. I lost all my CD's in a fire a long, long time ago. I just bought 3 CD's from Amazon and I've got one more to buy. "Built to Last", "Open Road", "True Stories", and the 4th coming in is "Brave New World". That's the actual one that turned me on to the group. Russ Freeman is pure genius in his arrangements. With the eventual arrival of "Brave New World", I'll have ripped more than 4 hours of the Rippingtons on my computer. What can I say? More than 4 hours of total bliss. Other faves of mine are Basia and Manhattan Transfer.
Russ Freeman as a guitarist is so underrated. Love his sound/ technique and his economy of notes and most of all his melody. You know it's Russ Freeman from miles away.
This was the absolute best group of musicians to make up the Ripps, which I was lucky enough to see twice. The members have changed, but it is Russ's band and music and the product has always been consistant.
Holy Good God!!!!!!!!!! I loved this song back in 1996 heavily into modern Jazz and I have searched for it's title & artist since 2006 when started listening to jazz again and tonight I found it OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU
Love these guys. Have seen them many times.....this particular group of musicians with Russ are the BEST in my opinion. My best to Super Kool Kim Stone out there in Colorado. Miss you guys!
First saw them back in the mid-80's at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA when David Benoit was with them. AMAZING. Been following the group ever since.
Yea that’s what’s up , fantastic the Rippingtons and Russ Freeman is the sound take moves clear across the earth with the bounce of sentiments of rhythm
Right you are. When I started listening to Smooth Jazz in the 90s they played mostly 80s and early 90s stuff. Was great way to get introduced into Jazz (smooth or not). Too bad they play a lot of heavy drum machined stuff like Paul Brown programmed garbage now.
This is, I think, the tightest line-up of musicians, the Rippington's ever had. Love these guys!!!

I was married to Kim Stone back when he was with Firefall. 👍
Steve Reid is the glorious percussionist‘s name 😊
@@deborahcowles1001 married to a genius 😅
Kim Stone, what a beautiful person..thank you Kim for your beautiful music. I met met you a long time ago, you are a class act! Beautiful person!
The Rippingtons one of the best smooth jazz bands with the wonderful saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa!
Jeff Kashiwa and Russ Freeman are the greatest jazz musicians of all time

Now in Albuquerque.
The nice music from the 80's and 90's will never come back and the good old America will never come back!
spot on, dude !
How amazingly tight and talented are these guys! One of the most amazing groups I have ever heard.
Use to listen to this song with my dad 💞👌
When you're so talented, the music comes easy.
Long live Russ & the Rippingtons
My favorite line-up!
This was the first song I heard by the Rippingtons years ago. Couldn't believe how good it was and how good it still sounds! Thanks.
Never heard of this great band until i´ve found them here on youtube. Love this music.
Excellent group---just found about these guys from a friend...
First saw them back in the mid-80's at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA when David Benoit was with them. AMAZING. Been following the group ever since.
Браво,прекрасна група от професионалисти.Музиката им е перфектна!
Simply…The Best! 😊

they are wonderful to see live, don't miss them if they come to your town
One of my all time favourite studio bands. I've collected many of their CDs. Great to see and hear some of this material played live.
Feel good vacation music...
love this song
Lucky enough to see them live in Camden in the late 80’s.
the song that dragged me into The Rippingtons fans more than decade ago
Thank you very much for this video!!!
Saw these guys at Humphrey's in San Diego around this time period. David Anderson on drums was smokin'!
the sound of 90's weather report and infomercials.... Russ Freeman must make millions with his works
Just wonderful!👈☝️✌✋👌🏼👍
They are amazing
Bravo Kashiwa !!!
yep
Steve Reid you're the man!!!
Cool Sound!!!!

Now, if "MAKING LOVE" was "MUSIC" indeed, this is what it would sound like.......PERFECTION!!!😄😂👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💐🙌🏾🙌🏾👌🏾👍🏾❤💯
Кайф! Молодци!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have made a vow,if I ever won the lottery,I would pay them to play in my hometown!
me too.
Yes, had same exact thought about 20 years ago, only I would make up the set list and encores too!!!
best jazz funk , russ freeman & the rippingtons so soft
Saw them 5 times and loved it each time.
The last show I saw was without Steve Reid.
Not the same after that, still good, but not the same.
Fred Stuckmann Steve Reid a totally different dimension to the band! Wish he would come back!
@@Pensfan1618 I agree, I had a chance to meet him and learned that he had played with Supertramp for a while too. Nice guy, very real.

Love this! Reminds me a little of Yellowjackets...(Four Corners album) Any crossover in the lineup?
No, similar vibe but no crossover. Yellowjackets were their own thing, and another favorite. Kim Stone (bassist) did some work with Spyro Gyra
5 Stars..
THE DRUMMER IS RIPPED!! ..INGTONS!!
The guy from 1:25 to 1:35 is the same guy applauding for chaka kahn on her My funny valentine version with Melvin Lee Davis.
Sad they only have so many in the audience; it's almost like talent being wasted. I'd have 3-400 ppl in there enjoying their music lol
Hard if at all to hear what the percussionist is doing. Need to turn him up a bit so his audio presence is there.
Shit hot music👍
Is it Jeff Kashiwa on the sax?
Yep thats Kashiw@
Michael Brecker. Unmistakable style, playing, and look. Brecker...
Is that Pepe Jimenez on drums?
Had this on vhs from Bet on Jazz when they still played music. Do you have the whole show?
They were better with Kim Stone, Jeff K and Steve Reid.
Love the backdrop - where is this?
reminds me of robinson.
Is this on song on spotify?
Yes it is. I have these guys in my library. I remember listening to their music on the Weather Channel in the 1990s.
Soph sudz Shure!
i dont think it is on spotify is it? i can never find it on there
@Dovah-chan yes I know but curves ahead isn't on spotify
Not really a jazz band in the traditional sense. Pop and R&B mixed with some jazz soloing.
that's a good thing cause most traditional jazz sucks
Not very interesting music overall. Sort of like jello. Looks pretty.
