Russ Freeman Guitarist, great writer founder; loved him since Nocturnal Playground fabulous Album. Humphrey 's - Temecula Winery . Steve Reid percussion , Drummer Tony Morales ; Jeff Kashawa . Smooth Jazz at it's finest !
Mine also, Julie. I first learned of their music in the early 1990s via The Weather Channel. I then subscribed to Jazz IS magazine.GRP Records and Jazz artists were tight at that time.
Russ is one of my all time favorite musicians, composers, and influences for a multi-genre, fusion and R&B guitarist. Nobody like him! Saw them live in Detroit, MI at the Fox Theater with Stanley Clarke, and then at an outdoor amphitheater in Sterling Heights. Two of the best concerts ever! Thanks Russ, for years of musical brilliance and listening enjoyment! Incredible! 👍👍👍
1- Take Me With You (Curves Ahead) 2- One Summer Night in Brazil 1:10 3- Angela 3:07 (Moonlighting) 4- Oceansong 4:34 (Kilimanjaro ) 5- Morocco 7:49 (Kilimanjaro)
i’ve been listening since 92 i can say i hear their songs literally every day See them live in person if you can in your lifetime great band , Russ Freeman is the best !!!
Russ Freeman is incredibly talented and versatile. Over the years I have seen Rippingtons members come and go and yet all of them were excellent musicians. I understand his concept to keep the Rippingtons fresh and vibrant and to keep the band going and going. This is why he relates to keeping the Rippingtons brand intact, rather than suffering a breakup like the Beatles. Another one of my all time favorites. He holds it together....... till today. While listening to his music, I am fascinated, it just amazes me how he conceives and arranges all the melodies.ie. Snowbound. He can go from Funk, to latin to classical to fusion to modern smooth jazz with ease! Guy is simply a musical genius! I have the entire collection! To say the least, it's one of my most prized possessions. Music is indeed food for the Soul. Thanks Russ and The Rippingtons.
I have seen the Rippingtons 4 times in concert, and every time there is no disappointment, the music is alway fantastic, and after the show's they are always friendly and there to meet the fans and give out autographs. Can't wait to see them again.
Russ Freeman is an absolute genius. Highly underrated and just shines whenever you watch him play. Choices are tremendous and it brings me right back to a younger time in my life. Thank you for sharing this with the world and continuing to play.
Fabulous music!!My dear friend and Brother Joseph Miguel DeJesus passed in march 2021.. He was an amazing man and musician amd song writter he turned me on to The Rippingtons...Joeseph DeJesus from the band Banshee RIP 😌😊😊😇
Ahh so. Found them on Tourist in Paradise, reversed to Moonlighting, then got every release since. Timeless. Russ Freeman is one of the most prolific writers of this age...Some of his stuff is similar, but I never cared. Yum.
THE Best contemporary jazz group by a million miles. I've been a super fan since the very beginning. They're always ripping it!!!! The composition of their masterpieces are second to none. Perfection for the senses. 👌❤
6:44 I love when Russ steps aside (no ego) & then every one of them watches with a sense of awe & wonder when Master Saxophonist, Brandon Fields, plays his solo. Even though they've ween him play countless times before. B. Fields is incredible!
0:00 - Take Me With You (Curves Ahead) 1:10 - One Summer Night In Brazil (Tourist in Paradise) 3:06 - Angela (Moonlighting) 4:34 - Oceansong (Kilimanjaro) 7:47 - Morocco (Kilimanjaro)
Saw these guys for the first time performing at the Arena Theater in Houston. They blew me out my socks with their latin, soul, funk, smooth jazz along with lots of brass to go with it. Fell in love with their music ever since. Thanks a million Russ.
Für mich ist es die beste🎤 Band. Ihr seid großartig. Großartige Musik 🎸von begnadeten Musikern. Einfach phantastisch. Ich grüße alle Menschen auf dieser weiten Welt 🌐die diese Musik 🎶 mögen.
I've been wanting to see the Rippingtons play in concert for a long time. One of my favorite albums is Topaz with a special native indian flute player. Well I just checked, guess I'm heading to Austin next June 2019 to see them.
Mind altering music. Changed the way i listen to jazz, funk, R&B and anything in between. Thanks, Russ and Rips! So many years and still rippin’ it! Hope you recall University of Kentucky way back when. Stay safe!
Indeed, I had the AWESOME pleasure of seeing them perform live in Mobile, AL back in 2000 at the Saenger Theater and when I tell you these guys NAILED every song they performed with FLAWLESS precision, THEY DID!! I do believe Mr. Russ Freeman changes guitars at least five times to produce the sound needed for certain songs.😄 I play bass but, after HEARING/SEEING them do their thing, I knew I was in need of much more practice to get to this level of play. ONE OF THE "BEST" GROUPS EVER!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👌🏾👍🏾❤💯
I completely agree with everything you said. I seen them Live once at the Northern Lights Theater in Milwaukee, WI.... My favorite group of all time Period...
So unbelievably good, I was into jazz big time as a kid, then grew away from it, but have recently fell in love with music without lyrics again, and I am drawn to this group majorly, I love their stuff so much
These songs remind me so much of different times in my life. I hadn't heard them in a long time. Late 80s, early 90. My first job out of college. Soon I will be retiring. Where did the time go.
I saw them live in 1994 at the Star Light Theater in Kansas City Mo. what a great performance! I am sad to hear that Russ Freeman has retired but their music is still out!
Russ was such a nice guy to meet and chat with! I use to deliver FedEx to him and his wife when they were living in Burbank. He handed me his latest cassette tape at the time, Curves Ahead. What fantastic music Russ!! Thanks for sharing!
My personal favorite band/bandleader/guitarist/composer/producer! My favorite segment is Russ's lead on Tourist In Paradise 11:10 to 11:52. Have seen Russ's band three times live, from half full 500 seat community college theater to full on performing arts theater (where Jeff Kashiwa played sax standing right next to my seat). The band is always flawless and puts on an amazing show. The fact that you are listening to only five musicians play is a testament to his ability to put together a stellar live band.
They are my Life’s spiritual encouragement and support. Only music that immediately takes to my Happy Place…..Miss you Brother Mike and introducing me to them in the 90’s. RIP
Great sound. Hadn't heard much from The Rippingtons as I've always been hooked on "Polo in the Palisades". THANKS for uploading this, and to youtube for adding it to my playlist.
The best smooth jazz band ever. Sadly, they disbanded a few years ago. Luckily, I got to see them live a few times. My favorite album is and always will be Modern Art.
Hi, rainlvr 1: I agree with you about the immortal Rippingtons and Russ Freeman. Great band and good management. I love you guys. Thanks for your music.
I had a chance to meet Russ Freeman, Jeff Kashiwa and Rico Belled at the Hyatt in OC many moons ago... Kudos to the group !!! Their music is ageless and timeless... They are so much ahead of their time... Thank you for the beautiful music!
My favorite smooth jazz group of all time...never, ever tire of them...ever...so classically timeless...

so many wonderful & precious memories.. all through the years.. don't know how to move on when they are no more..
Beautifully composed music. Been a fan for years and years. Hate the ad interruptions in the middle of the music though. It breaks the mood.
Bravo, Russ, you and the guys defined the 80s for me.
These songs remind me so much of different times in my life. I hadn't heard them in a long time. Late 80s, early 90. My first job out of college. Soon I will be retiring. Where did the time go.
Pure music from Russ and the guys. I'm particularly fond of Brandon's sound and nuance.
Music is medicine
I am a fan of this group since they launch tourist in paradise album in 1988/9. Never bored to hear their music.
