Tom even played real xylophone that night - no electronic marimbas! They were fantastic & have remained a fan since the late 70s - when I think I attended a Grove City college fraternity party held in NY , south of Buffalo, and they were the musicians that evening- I was mesmerized!

En fin Adelante SPYRO GYRA gracias por toda su nueva musical... I could listen to this all damn day. Such great players. Super underrated, I think. Still absolutely wailin’. Able to pivot out of “smooth jazz” easily and play straight-ahead jazz with ease, of course. Fun to listen to. Jay Beckenstein is a fantastic saxophonist. How many guys have imitated that sound? Gorgeous, gorgeous alto sound. It’s sorta the prototypical modern alto sound in a lot of ways. At least post-1975 or so.

Saw them at Jackson Rancherio Casino CA. 16 yrs ago. About 200-300 in attendance, a full house. Always interesting to see what drummer they are using as that is the only member that seems to rotate. Always amazed at how every song is perfectly memorized note for note (and eac inflection thereof) by each member, truly amazing.

When I got into playing pro, my soprano Yanagisawa was my choice because of Kenny G who I met in Austin back in 1980. But, I was greatly inspired by Jay and was wearing out my third cassette tape of Jay and Spyrogyra when I graduated from U of Texaa. His Technique Tone and Creativity is Unsurpassed. The whole group is brilliant and has been for decades. Thanks for so many wonderful memories!

All the concerts from Jazz At San Javier are have an upstanding quality image and great video direction, but that is not most importanting thing when comes to jazz live concert. I think that is time they have take in consideration how important is audio. With all respect I think they have start taking that as one of the main priority on they live concert productions.
