- AQUI & AJAZZ, THE RIPPINGTONS "Tourist In Paradise"
One more time here Russ Freeman and The Rippingtons with "Tourist In Paradise", the tune that really start it all back in May, 1989, as their GRP Records debut album same title just came out.
The Rippingtons Are:
Russ Freeman: Acoustic and Electric Guitar
Dave Kochanski: Keyboards
Kim Stone: Bass
Jeff Kashiwa: Ewi, Alto & Tenor Sax
David Anderson: Drums
Steve Reid: Percussion
Oh hell yeah !!!! Jeff Kashiwa on that sax was smooth and tight.
jeff awesome!
Jeff Kashiwa on the Saxophone 🎷🎷🎷🎷
GRP era. The best era for The Rippingtons
That is an astute observation. I was selling CDs and promoting contemporary jazz concerts then. The GRP era was excellent for many artists; getting a place in the GRP stable meant something to artists and fans both.
@@tonydelapa1911 What is GRP??
@@kirkgilbreath5094 it was a record label by and for musicians. Great recording quality. Strong stable of acts. Grusin Rosen Productions, I believe (long time ago).
素敵なノリノリな曲😘
Like being in Heaven!!! Fantastic!
I own all their music, it always makes me smile!
Can't believe I've been listening for over 30 years. Where does the time go😲
Your so right on, where does it go😨
me too, time flies ...
this band defined a decade. westcoast cool.
Awesome banger !
As a electronic music fan, full respect to The Rippingtons !
A summer breeze blows through my heart.
Yes.. Perfect.
can't beleive that dave koz and kenny g was in the band...
Tourist In Paradise..my first ever Rippingtons album on tape back in the day! Everything else followed, going back to Moonlighting...every album after that!
It's 2024! Still listening...😊
His Saxophone playing and tone is amazing! Wow, he playing it so expressive like a singer!! Makes me wanna learn the sax as my second instrument.
I may be in the music biz (hard rock/ metal band mgr.), but I can never get enough great jazz in my life. I love all music (except rap & hip-hop). I was brought up on jazz, and listening to the Rippingtons is like having dessert after a day of thundering amps!
Yeah the Rippingtons were/are great. And Kim Stone is pretty much the reason I picked up bass as a teen. Got some great memories of watching their "Live in LA" VHS over and over haha
Well said, the rips are like a dessert wine after a metal main course 😆
You like country music?
Red flag if you enjoy jazz but you don't like jazz rap.
I can never get enough of their smooth and eclectic sound....
This music never gets old!
What an amazing band.. they are simply the Best.. by the way Steve Reid is a monster on percussion.. pure talent!
This is my favorite lineup!!!!!!!!
Boy i miss Steve Reid in the band!!!!!
Russ Freeman once lived in Boca Raton, where his Ma was. That may be the reason we saw this great Jazz so many times in SoFLa! Loved every minuto.
Russ Freeman grande musicista
I love these dudes. They’re the best
El poder de la música es maravilloso!!! Te traslada a otras galaxias!!!
That groove is so sick!
OMG INCREIBLE!!!!!!
Fell in love with them back in 1994

AWESOME JAZZ!

Like Wow!
Honestly so nice
sooooo cool
Russ and Eric did a good job They wanted the band to have a style!!!
Keyboard setup:
Roland D-50 on top
Kurzweil PC88 below
//for those who's interested
You’re correct!
Also (Which isn’t shown) is a rack to my right. If I remember, I’m also using a Roland JD-990, a JV-1080, a MKS-20, 90% sure I also used the XV-5080 and a Yamaha TX-802. The Kurzweil was just functioning as a MIDI controller. Everything was connected via a JL Cooper MSB+ that handled all the mapping and routing. That’s all I can remember. :)
@@davekochanski Sir, it's a great pleasure to hear from you! I'm keen on keyboards and everything around them. It's very interesting to know about the gear you used back in the day. Everytime I watch this video I can't help wondering how you managed to change the presets at that speed to be as close to the studio recording as possible! One of my favorite bands ever. // Greetings from Ukraine
@@davekochanski So nice to read a comment from ypu here Dave. Do you still perform live sometimes? After Markt Portmann left you were the keyboarder for the Ripps for quite some years. You also wrote and played with the inimitable Steve Reid, the King of Percussion Colors, who was one of two childhood heroes that were the reason I became a professional percussionist. Became a Ripps fan with age 14 (back in 1989). Hung out with Steve eventually in the sommer of 2015 in his old home/studio on Morella Ave in North Hollywood, which was a dream come true. Are you still in touch with Steve? I miss those old GRP days when the world seemed less chaotic, insecure and more joyous and when the music bizz was still blossoming and musicians sold CDs, toured (with a percussionist) and lots of small record labels were around! Blessings from Germany, Kokoki!
The best

RIP ... Tony Morales
Hey there, No Tony did not pass away. He has been battling Alzheimer's disease since age 64. He will turn 69 this year and is being taken care of by his brother. He does not recognize close friends anymore. Very sad. On drums here is David Anderson. But Tony will always be the original heartbeat of the Rippingtons. A fantastic, underrated drummer. Him together with the amazing and unique Steve Reid was a golden combination!
2022 🔥💯
This is "REAL" good, but listen to this song on the Live in L A cd. It is killer.
Like instrumental Phil Collins albums.
