Thank you for so much for sharing this. My husband, 7 year daughter and I were so lucky to meet Mike Stern in October 2019 when he played at Birds Basement in Melbourne, before we became one of the most locked down cities in the world. Mike was so friendly, humble and lovely. My daughter has a great photo with him. She's 9 now and absolutely hero worships Simon. She's becoming a pretty amazing little drummer herself and loves jazz fusion. It would be soooo amazing if you all could come to Melbourne, Australia and tour.

This is one of the all time greatest guitar concerts I know of, says a huge Mahavishnu fan. Lee Ritenour is showing here, that he's among the greatest guitar players of all time. Everyone already knew about how good he is from Friendship, Captain's Journey, Feel The Night and so on. But what he's playing here goes beyond. Damn, the man is so virtuosic in literally every style of guitar playing, not "only" in the fusion genre, for which he's best known of. His solos are damn beautiful and sparkle with creativity. Also his guitar sound is from heaven. Never heard a Les Paul sounding better than here. Very impressive. And you can hear so many influences. A very strong one is John McLaughlin. You already could hear his Mahavishnu influences on the title track of the album Captain Fingers. I wish he had also done a collaboration with John McLaughlin. An album and a tour with exclusively written material would have been something. Too sad it never happened. About Mike Stern only one thing. I liked his sound better, when he was with Miles. Honestly much better. His guitar sound is quite thin here and sounds somehow synthetic. His playing of course, is out of this world. And as a drummer I must add, Simon's drum sound here is insane! Not to speak of his playing. Very tasteful and sensitive and not too much Billy Cobham.
I met Mr. Mike Stern in Chicago in the early 2000's...after one of his shows. I was still teaching Jazz/Rock guitar there. Mike was a VERY sweet "down to Earth" individual...truly a living legend!!!
Just check Mike's solo at 41:59! The progression is completely unpredictable and so creative - total mastery and freedom on the guitar. Man, what a concert!
Simply the best gig.....I missed!!!! I love and have seen everyone live....but not together like that!!!!! Just wish you guys had toured in Europe!!!! Have met both Lee and Mike and they are beautiful people..it just comes across. Lots of love Melvin. keep safe!!!
Holy damn smokes! Honestly , I'm 59, I've been into jazz, rock and fusion my whole life. This is one of the BEST gigs I've ever seen and heard. Phenomenal! I'm waiting for Miles to walk on stage!
Saw this tour when they played the west coast that year. Top 10 show all time show for me. Such masters. Both guys sold their CDs afterwards, unbelievably nice to fans. I mentioned to one of them, probably Mike, that they should tour again some year. Still waiting and hopeful. Thankful this video was posted.
How cool! Just found this. Two favorites, playing a favorite tune. Man! Talk about a lesson in guitar tone!!! Rit's tone ( even after UA-cam compression) is so dang big! Thanks to who posted this!
One of my favorite guitar concerts on UA-cam! Lee and Mike compliment each other well here.. Simon's drumming is perfect for this gig and the bass/vocals player is spectacular. Audio recording is good as well, ENJOYED!
Thank you Melvin for this gift you gave us! Your playing is awesome and these guys are so generous too. Mike's humbleness is touching... Your vocals are something else, too. Peace for you all!!!
I absolutely love this. Simon is a given for this type of music - just a monster drummer with exceptional talent. Check him out playing with Andy Timmons. I've seen Stern a few times, but he didn't light it up like this. And Lee - Jesus - the dude can rip like I would have never imagined. These lads need to start a full-on fusion band together. Thanks for sharing!
Something magical happened that night. All together are pure genius and become one. It seems that they are sharing, and feeding directly from eachother energies. I just need to express my admiration to the sound engineers who acheived a work of a rare quality on a (live) sound. I'd like to know who they are. And can't wait to listen to this concert in HD. Massive big up brothers.
Check out this video (one song from this show), for the notes that are included. Looks like it might lead to some answers on the amazing sound. ua-cam.com/video/t5lZq7ykhs4/v-deo.html
Oh Melvin...this concert is my favourite on You Tube...would love to get it on DVD. Seen you many times with The Maestro...Rit and Stern...just perfect...with the most supportive rhythm section...fusion heaven!!! Lol from the UK
I am only @ 2:22 and I have to say to the camera men and editors- great job for those of us who really enjoy watching players play their instrument. The sound quality is excellent as well. All around great accidental find :) thank you for the great post. cheers
What an astonishing collaboration between monsters of music. I keep going back to it-I can't get enough. One of the most jaw-dropping yet utterly tasteful shows I've seen on UA-cam or anywhere else. It’s all great, but 18:15 - 45:00 (Wing and a Prayer, Etude, All You Need) is like a quick trip to heaven. Thanks for posting.
Many thanks MLD, this is as good as it gets. I was fortunate to see Mike many years ago in Atlanta with Tom Kennedy on bass and Dave Weckl on drums, this is better .......... subscribed
The evocative, quiet ballad, Mike Stern's "A wing and a prayer," is particularly lovely in this set. It's at 18:17, starting with a long solo intro by Mike. Thanks for sharing this, MLDBass; I've been a Rit fan since the late 70s, and it's good to see he just never stops making great music. -Tom
Brilliant musicians and band! WOW! The gig is so thoughtfully balanced, very intuitive and so cool. Did anybody else notice (of course you did, jazz and fusion, guys and girls :-) how the 3rd number "Lay It Down" is such an incredible homage to Billy Cobham's album Spectrum. Lay It Down is so Stratus, I just love these guys for doing it the way they did. Yes, it's a different tune, even a different tempo, but it abounds in musical quotes: bits of solos, the drumming, the atmosphere. This is greatmusicianship at its best. Not many people on this great planet could do this so well, To me, as a guitarist, this is a master class in supporting great traditions and reinventing great sounding musical experiences in the best way. Awesome, amazing and a joy to listen to.
Always loved Freeway Jam. rip Jeff Beck 🙏 Saw Stern & Eric Johnson play together on their album collab tour years ago👍👍
Simon adds such Depth, Power, Rock Solid groove, that gentleman can play anything !!!!!!
What a privilege to see such great legends play together wow👏👏👏🎼🎶🎵👍💯👌❤
Brotherhood of musicians good feeling good music::💋💋💋🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧

What an eye-opening Jam on this Sunday morning. Coffee, sunshine, and Smooth Jazz. 🤟🏻😎
I wish I was there, but thank God for Surround Sound and Subs. These are some of the Worlds absolute Best, TOGETHER!!!
Fantastico...fantastici
Far freaking out concert. Wonderful at the max. I've watched this video dozens of times or more and it still gets to my core every time.

And Ritenour just pocket burns that unobtrusive rhythm guitar
DREI BUCHSTABEN: WOW! Klasse Konzert, Klasse Musiker, Klasse Ton
Simon Phillips!!! ooooh, what a drummer
Simon Phillips keeping it real in the background and funkY! YeaH!
Wow! All of them, masters of their instruments.

Pure class, no screaming guitar solo's, just good players and music, doesn't get much better than this in the fusion world!!

Holy damn smokes! Honestly , I'm 59, I've been into jazz, rock and fusion my whole life. This is one of the BEST gigs I've ever seen and heard. Phenomenal! I'm waiting for Miles to walk on stage!
Same here although i'm "only" almost 57. What would I not give to see those guys, even if I had to go to Japan lol
This really IS one of most EPIC performances of all time..SERIOUSLY!!
Same here, and I am 70.
Miles is D E A D! You probably missed that.
@@knowitall1694 Probably blackdogbite was aware, that Miles has left us, but is missing him. Who doesn't? 😉

30:00: The minute that made me cry and smile, at the same time... So much Zawinul(passion) in that short solo...

WOW! This is killer! Never imagined I'd here Lee Ritenour playing Jeff Beck's classic Freeway Jam! The whole set is just awesome. Thanks for posting!
One of my favorite guitar concerts on UA-cam! Lee and Mike compliment each other well here.. Simon's drumming is perfect for this gig and the bass/vocals player is spectacular. Audio recording is good as well, ENJOYED!
Lee is known for his smooth melodic jazz, but I've seen him a couple of times, and he can blow with the best of them.
He lets the energy loose when on stage, often drifting into rock. Very different than his studio albums. Suits me just fine 😎
Thank you Melvin for this gift you gave us! Your playing is awesome and these guys are so generous too. Mike's humbleness is touching... Your vocals are something else, too. Peace for you all!!!
cant stop watching this video......please get Lee and Mike to release this Melvin......
Perfect, balanced recording of all the protagonists involved.....thumbs-up to the engineers!
Doesn't get any better than this...what a fest, and Blitz just keeps gettin' better and better.
Wonderful music, god bless you all
Class A-1 outstanding. Thanks for posting.

What a combination of great players. I never get bored with this concert.
What a band! And the player with the most strings on his instrument is the bassplayer! 😁
Maravilloso......No me canso de oirles!
I'm from Brazil and I enjoy a lot of work with Ritenour Lee.
Why? If anybody is from Brazil cannot like jazz?
Many thanks MLD, this is as good as it gets. I was fortunate to see Mike many years ago in Atlanta with Tom Kennedy on bass and Dave Weckl on drums, this is better .......... subscribed
What a pair
The bass player was with Henry Rollins at one time
Great session Gets better and better each time you listen to it!!
Holy shit you are alive?! I am a big fan Leonardo!

Great guys which I follow since the seventies. ;-)
Amazing!! Love it!!!! :-)
Hey MLDBass, Thanks for the upload. Love that 7 Stinger bro. I cannot believe I have not found this show before. Love me some Simon Phillips on Drums.

I love how the lights resemble what lights look like on a freeway on Freeway Jam.
