I have the same set. Initially, I purchased it in a show of support for the Ukrainian people - I live in Europe. However, I adore my set and have been enjoying it since the end of November last year (‘22). I love being able to mix the colours, knowing that my hard won colour theory won’t let me down because a manufacturer decides to tweak colours with extra pigments. Great review, very fair and your painting shows off the luminosity of these paints so well. Sorry about your finger though - ouch!! Thanks for posting. In Europe, this set is so affordable, and I have also purchased many colours in tube form open stock. All colours can be purchased open stock in both full pan and tube. The price compares well to Roman Szmal too - another wonderful paint. ❤️🎨🖌👩🏻🎨
Hi Anita! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! I’m so happy you have and are enjoying your Rosà watercolors. I really love them and the full pans are a huge plus. Most curated palettes seem to be available in half pans so this feels luxurious! I agree the single pigments are the way to go for mixing your own specific hues. Do take care, and I appreciate you! Happy painting!🤠
I got the 21 single pigment set Feb 1. I have ordered the other 5-6 single pigments, individual pans from their us dist on Etsy since then. I never would have thought I would be so obsessed with watercolor paints, but… As for lightfastness: see Kimberly’s site, she tested them and most of them PASSED! I’d write more, but my iPad touchscreen is acting up & it’s driving me nuts…I’ll end with this: because they are just 2 ingredient paints (GA & pigment), they not only mix well together (PS You have GOT to get their PBr25, PV19 and PB36!!), they mix GREAT with every other brand I tried!) I just put the white into an old palette..and I ADDED a full pan of Lunar Black, and a couple of heavily granulating handmade paints, including a 1/2 pan of PO49 😁! I feel like I’m set for the rest of my life…but, I think we all know, you can NEVER have too many excellent paints! 😉 I got these for a specific reason..I won’t go into the whole story, but I have been learning traditional Chinese Painting for over 9years. There is a BIT of a “scandal” going on right now. Until the past 5-10yrs, the 3 companies, one who has been making traditional, natural pigment paint for over 200yrs; decided to branch out and stick their toes..and profits, into Western mediums. Before this, traditional paint and paint chips were all they made. As you might guess, their branching out, unfortunately, took the focus off their primary product…and the quality of traditional paints has plummeted. Even our chips are significantly different than just a few years ago. Most artists, including myself, still have a large stash of older paints and chips. But it’s a huge issue for professors and new art students. One of my tutors, an artist who teaches at the largest art school; suggested we might start experimenting with western paints. Just a quick insert: traditional Xuan paper comes in 3 main types: raw, or completely unsized, semi-sized and “ripe”, or fully sized. ALL are extremely thin, but sized paper tends to be almost translucent, VERY delicate, and is used for more finely detailed paintings. Western paint and ANY Xuan paper…usually don’t get along. Western paints also don’t lend themselves to certain techniques we use…a simple example: loading 3-4 colors on a brush at once, usually for florals-1-stroke, 2-3 petals, 3-4 colors. It’s hard to explain but you can find videos online. Longer story short, I’ve spent the past 6 months playing mad scientist. Trying different paints, using Chinese binders either in the paint or brush water. I was ready to give up until these paints. Having a lot of pigment and ONLY gum Arabic makes them perfect for my experiments..and I knew the first day..just adding some mingjiao (fish glue…it doesn’t smell, it’s from the bones) crystals into brush water…I was blown away! They look better than my very expensive paint chips I got about 5yrs ago! And just 1 more thing…my painting project for today? A painting of my late Dad, on his beloved beach, with his kayak right next to him. When he passed in 2019, he had just turned 96. The week before, he’d been out fishing, as usual, on his kayak and worked out at the gym 4 days. I’m going to try painting it both on western paper..AND on double Xuan, it’s thicker than regular Xuan, but it’s usually raw..so, last night, I painted both sides with a light alum solution. I’m not sure how well it will work, but, fingers crossed! Thanks for the video though! I needed some motivation this morning! 😊
Hello Elaine! I’m so happy you enjoyed this video. I’m very familiar with Kimberly Crick. She’s a great resource! The Rosà paints are quite lovely and really play well with others! I’m also somewhat familiar with Xuan papers. I’ve we always thought they work best with the Gansai Tambi watercolors and traditional Japanese Sumi ink stones (is Sumi the right word? Can’t remember) thanks for sharing your interesting comments! I’m sorry your dad has passed. My dad left us very early in his life-he was only 67. That was 27 years ago and I’m so grateful to still be able to feel his presence with me quite often. Wow-96 and still living life to it’s fullest! Your dad must have been a wonderful man. I hope you thoroughly enjoy painting him. ❤️Let me know how the alum coating works for you. I love mad scientist days! I’ve been thinking of you-did you get the squirrel photo to download? I have a secure email artwithnonna@gmail.com if you ever need me to email a photo to you I sure can💖
I just received the 21 set of monopigments from Rosa. They are my first professional watercolors and I was just amazed at the difference between them and my craft type watercolors! Although I have nothing else to compare we them to I am simply thrilled with them. By the way,, there is a serration on the top of the label that allows you to leave the color and pigment information on the sides. Loved hearing about your dad ❤ RMNP is our favorite place and I was so excited to hear that he worked on the trails there. How very special.
Hi Christine! Thank you so much I appreciate your comments! Yes, I saw the perforation-I’ve found that I prefer my pans completely naked & paper-free lol! I agree these Rosà paints are simply wonderful. I’m happy you like them too& congrats on your first professional set of watercolors! 🎉 RMNP is indeed a special place. I’m glad you liked my story as well. Thank you. Happy painting!🤠
These paints are now available with the retailer I most buy from (Jackson’s Art) so I was considering them. On the quality of the pigmented set, thank you for your concise, but thorough explanation and the tip about sticking the labels to the sleeve, tender painting of your dad too. All the very best.
Hi Michelle! Thank you 😊 🩷! I shop with Jackson’s as well-what a wonderful retailer! That’s great to know they have Rosà Gallery…I enjoy these so much there are a few more I’d like to try. Glad you enjoyed this! Happy Painting!🤠🩵
You motivated me to buy them and I LOVE them. Instantly I fell in love with the vibrant colours, the way the fade into each other, just incredible. Thank you so much for your honest review
Im really enjoying my Rosa Gallery. I ordered a few pans after seeing some reviews and light tests and then ordered more! Im a real fan of honey based artisan paints but love to try different brands. Thank you for showing us the lovely portrait of your Dad.
Hi Myra! You’re so welcome and I’m very happy you found this informative! I, too, love honey-based artisan paints. I’ve recently become the proud mama of a set of A. Gallo watercolors! I bet you already have & love them-but if you are interested, here is my review of that wonderful set: ua-cam.com/video/GtnmH3r6vMw/v-deo.html The Rosà can’t be beat for their price point! Do you have a favorite paint of theirs, I’m eyeing the botanical set…😍 Happy painting!
I’m just learning to paint. I’m not an artist, but I like crafts. I love this set. It’s so easy to mix colors. Btw…I grew up in Lafayette Colorado. I love the pic of your dad. I have very similar pics of my dad. You brought me back. Thank you for that lovely personal touch
Hi Alison! Thank you so much! So wonderful to know you grew up in Lafayette! I’m not fortunate enough to meet a lot of people who can say that 👩🏻🎨🤠⛰️🩷 If you want to try some professional paints these are a great place to start! I love them and they are certainly comparable to all of my pro brands. I would say you ARE an artist, though 🩷 Happy painting and I hope to chat with you again!
I love to watch your videos. You have such a pleasant voice and do a wonderful job of explaining the various aspects of your watercolor reviews and paintings. Thanks for a very enjoyable channel!
Hi there! Thanks for your question. Actually, for some artists that might be an adequate solution. For me, that is a sure recipe for me not being able to read the label information anymore when it comes time for me to need to read it. No matter how careful I am, I will definitely end up with paint or water seeping between the pans. That’s why I remove the label and use it on a swatch chart-to preserve its important information so that it remains easily legible and as a reliable reference. Hope that answers your question & happy painting! 👩🏻🎨👨🏻🎨🙌🏼
I’ve been so tempted to buy this set! But I already have DS and WN professional colors that are mono pigments. I’m tempted to get their romantic set or botanical
Hi Jessica! The DS & WN monopigment sets are gorgeous, I agree! I think the curated Rosà watercolor palettes are beautiful…it was a tough decision! I almost purchased the Botanical set, but settled on this one. I truly don’t think you’ll be disappointed in any of the Rosà watercolors! 💖
I'd heard of this brand before, but never gave them much thought. I now feel that was a mistake on my part - you've really piqued my interest in these paints. Your swatches and painting show off the colors wonderfully. And I love that it's twelve FULL pans.
Hi Miranda! How are you? The Rosà Gallery paints are becoming some of my favorite. They are right up there with my Daniel Smith & M Graham. I’m happy you like them too! Sorry about the notification thing. I think that’s unusual/unique to something in the cyber universe that happens when you and I get together in cyberspace.
