    1. Tells us he's wanted a Capri for a long time
    2. Tells us how hard they are getting to find
    3. Drives his new Capri sideways down a snowy mountain road for our entertainment
I love this series. Great to see another installment!

The Ford Capri was about as close to a muscle car there ever was in Germany at the time- but since the gas was 5 times more expensive... most of them had the 1.3l and 1.5l engines with under 70hp.. and they were still cool cars

Philip Clark helped design the Mustang & Capri. It also used components from the mk2 Ford Cortina.

add a massivly weighted flywheel, cam it and do valve springs, it will rev to 8700 rpm, drop the clutch and watch it wheelie. my dad did this and i still have pictures of it doing wheelies at winterport dragway. i wish he never got rid of it

I've never sold anything, all of my cars got wrecked. I even rolled (4 times) a 1986 Nissan Maxima in 1985. It had less than 100km on the odometer. I have always loved rallying. My heroes were rally drivers. They were the greatest influence in my live... Come to think of it, maybe they were the worst influence...

I love tiny rwd cars in the snow. I had a Chevette for 4 years or so back in the 90’s. So light and maneuverable. With for quality snow tires it was a blast!

I had a chance to drive this very car on the 2021 Great American Mountain Rally Revival, thanks to Mr. O'Neil. With Ralph Beckman as navigator, we placed 1st overall. Very fun to drive, good power from the V6.

Good to see another old car on Will It Rally.
About Tim wrecking his Capri as a youngster... I still have my first car in my driveway from when I was 15 and didn't maintain it and it broke down... I'll fix it someday. lol

My parents' first car was gifted as a blue 1977 Mercury Capri II. The feature was with a 4spd 2.3ltr engine purchased in Los Angeles, CA.
My parents utilized this Capri between 1977-1995. I inherited this vehicle for a graduation gift. The car had about 150k, however my parents invested about 3k, ensuring I would have sturdy vehicle.
The vehicle lasted 3 years before its calling to the junk yard at 210k.
    I miss that car dearly.....😢

I actually owned a '76 Capri 2 S 'Black Cat' (think JPS livery color scheme) as my very first, bought new from the Mercury dealer, ride.
Cologne (?) 2.8 liter V-6, 2 bbl. carb, 4 speed manual, and had some torque on tap for a fairly light car.
I DO miss it sometimes, but like the aesthetics of the Mk1s, like Tim's above, especially in silver, a bit more. ;)

The Capri is such a good looking car, I wish they were sold here in the states. They could have had the full size lineup of two door cars if they wanted to. Escort, Capri, mustang, thunderbird, and probably more.

    • @MrCaprinut
      @MrCaprinut 2 роки тому +3

They were! This is one of them! They sold the Mk1 as late as 74', they skipped 75 for the Mk2, but sold them again for 76 and 77'. States did not receive the so called Mk3, but never the less the was sold over 500.000 units in North America and that is over 1/4 of the total production! They are not that rare, but as he said people that have them tend to hang on to them. Here in Norway we have under 1000 cars left in total. I bet some states in US has more than that alone.

I've got an idea for a video. Lots of off-road vehicles use CVTs for th traction benefits they offer so my question is, how would a car with a CVT perform in rally? My guess is better than most would expect but it would be cool to see a comparison. Maybe get a manual version and a CVT version of the same car and show what they can do. I have a feeling the CVT would be more effective overall.

I'm a little bit of a rally enthusiast, but I'm a huge Capri fan. It's really nice to see a Capri in action. Just like you, I had a Capri in my youth ('90's). Mine was an English 1970, with a v4 (2000gt). Again, the same story, couldn't afford to keep it well and youthful exuberance meant that it didn't flourish under my care. I'm desperate to have one again. It would be the start of my old car collection. My aspiration would be to make it a 'daily driver' but with some mod cons added in to make it tolerable. Ac and powersteering would be top of my list, but merely restoring it to the point of it not being a miserable old rattle trap is, I know, a far greater challenge than those additions. But I gotta find one here in the Caribbean first! Wish me luck

@@MrPacsone thank you for the offer, but my country doesn't allow import of old cars, so I'm afraid I'm stuck with finding one here in Trinidad.
