- Will It Rally? This new web series from The Team O'Neil Rally School asks the only car question that really matters: Will it Rally? Ride along as we test the limits of different vehicles on our skidpad and slalom areas, before putting them against the stopwatch on a mountainous rally stage here at Team O'Neil.
In this episode, we're driving a Toyota Tacoma on a beautiful fall day. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the epic quest to find out.. Will it Rally?

"Will it Rally" is the kind of series which makes me drop what I'm doing the minute the notification comes up. I'll bet it wouldn't be too tough to find a panther platform car to rip down the hill.
Sooo cheap to buy one for this show too! It might be too slow tho. I think the hemi charger would eat it for breakfast unfortunately. Don't get me wrong I have a soft spot for the panther platform.
such a cool idea
Do it-!?!...!
This video makes me miss my 07 Taco, RIP girl, you ate that guard rail like a champ
RIP and F in the chat
Digitalbarrito Rest In Peace, how did it happen if you don’t mind me asking
Hopefully you grabbed another Taco
Digitalbarrito monched the rail
F for respect
Vloggers' review: "it has traction control, entertainment center, nice interior design.."
Wyatt's review: "it has blah blah this, blah blah that, now let's turn off everything and slide on our track."
Just shows how all those gadgets are completely unnecessary if you know how to drive ....
Will it Rally? Depends on who's driving it seems.
enticed2zeitgeist yeah this guy is a talent, experienced drive who knows the corse very well. I think he could make anything look easy to drive on that coarse.
Yes. This guy is consistent so he can feel the difference between the vehicles. Me, I just try to keep it on the road lol.
Yes and he could rally a cardboard box
Still want to see something that won't rally
Any slammed car lol
idk try a Honda fit? they just might be too low, and their wheels to small to really get around with any speed
@Matthew Krier thats awesome. i thought the wheels were too small, but its a cool car
Corvette. Too low, too stiff, nonadjustable transverse leaf spring at both ends.
Chevy Sonic? Old-school automatic longbed truck? Saturn L-series wagon?
I want to see a smart car rally
It would be neat to see what kind of laptime a BRZ would pull
luke durkee yes please
Hell yea ild love to see what my car can do. I know for a fact they can fit some large offroad tires im getting 215/65 r17s so
This
Spin almost once drifting and scraping
Legit didn't know they still put manuals in these. Nooooice.
This is the first time I'm seeing a manual Tacoma of this generation. I used to think the only models that had manual transmission options were the HiLux.
They're pretty nice too. I've had a g35 for years and that gear box is so nice. Got a wrx as a daily and hated it because the gearbox was so clunky. Picked one of these up and it has a much more similar feel to the g35, it's so much nicer to drive than the Subaru.
with the current generation the only models that come with manual are the sport and offroad
It’s pretty awesome! You can walk into a Toyota dealership today and buy a $50,000 Tacoma with a manual transmission.
@@nathanschroeder4846 50k is a bit much, a standard offroad is only about 37k, still pricey though, but definitely worth the money
Hey Wyatt, Toyota dealer service employee reporting in.
The frame recall on 05-10 Tacomas is no longer active as of March 31st, 2019. The rule for the recall is if it had a hole larger than the size of a quarter then we’d replace it. If not, it gets and undercoating and that’s it. It could take weeks or months to get a frame so you’d be stuck in a rental Corolla forever. If other pieces were too rusty to save we’d claim them on the warranty too. Then we’d cut the old frame up and scrap it.
Tundras were affected as well. But they just get the beds removed, rust sanded off and coated again. The rust belt is tough on all cars.
Hey Alex! We've got one Tacoma in for a new frame now and an employee has a Tacoma getting a new frame shortly (just failed the test and the frame is on order). Maybe the rules are different this far north?
@@Teamoneilrally I know this is late but it’s worth putting it out there. The frame recall he says correctly covered 05 to 10 Tacomas with a frame made by Dana Corp, an American parts supplier. Dana failed to adequately rust proof the frames. My dads 08 was affected by this as well when 2 3/4 holes were found in the rear area of the frame. Toyota paid for a dodge ram pickup as a rental vehicle while they took 2.5 weeks to fix his ( his AC was also broken which needed repairs as well. ). He sold it to me after the frame and the only things I had to replace were the brakes and the rear bumper. I drove it for 4 years before I sold it on for 8500 bucks and bought a 2022
You really whipped this thing around the course, very impressive
reminds me of my first rally car - '92 GMC Sierra 1500 4.3L V6 2wd on BALD all-season tires
Fuck yeah lmao I love these trucks
I paused a movie to watch this. Keep going with this series!
Yes! I just bought a TRD Sport. Thanks! You should do something strange. Like a limo 😂
Yes a limo!
@National Trolliosis Foundation And a hearse would be pretty cool too!
I’ve got a 2016 TRD O-R and i love it
@Broken Patriot nah sport cheaper and after market lockers are far better. The sport and off road both do very well off road, I crawl control manually lol and immediately mod my trucks
I was thinking he should try rallying a garden tractor
I had the same truck, loved the torque with the manual transmission it was fun to drive. I got top dollar for trade in.
Hopefully you got another Taco 🤨
I’ve got a 95 wrangler. I’d love to see how an old Jeep like that would hold up on the rally course. Despite its short wheelbase
I'd like to see that also
It probably wouldn't be safe those roll pretty easy
A lowered 2wd would be fine. A stocky 4x4 would flip
I also have a 95 wrangler but I'm pretty sure my frame would twist itself apart from rust on this course
I think the Cherokee would rally well though
As a guy who drive a Tacoma and will take it on some back dirt roads to see what it can do, I can say that he did amazing. Tacomas have this weird thing where you can be planted on the throttle and the back won't kick out. You did amazing though.
Locker anytime mod and you can drift it real good
@@TheBroLounge I mean I have limited slip so the back will kick out sometimes but when it doesn’t its just a pain
@@amazedtenthousand4873 Shift manually to keep in higher RPMs usually works.
Should do a will it rally on a first gen awd Honda CR-V
I want to see more with the Tacoma. Keep em coming!
I love the commentary, this is the kind of thing that has me on UA-cam instead of Netflix or mainstream tv
Okay, just found out about this channel and I have a weird obsession watching base/cheap model cars get pushed to the limits...off-road.
Us too! Team O'Neil was founded on "How to drive a stock vehicle as fast as possible on dirt roads without crashing or breaking down"
Team O'Neil Rally School awesommmee. One car I would absolutely love to see is probably one of the most iconic vehicle series... one of the Panther Platform Vehicles (Lincoln Town Car, Grand Marquis, Crown Victoria) but personally I’d love to see a grand marquis and maybe a Cop Victoria to compete with the challenger!
Soo soo cool! What a fun series of videos. Seeing that Tacoma sideways made me smile
Dude if all your content is like this, I'm going to be binge watching you for the next week! SUBBED!!!!
Love hearing the 4.0 rev up. One of the better toyota engines ever made
Song at the end is "Hidden Seed by Divine Attraction" if anybody wanted to know.
Is that an immaculate conception pun...
This new format is so awesome, love it.
That was awesome! I have one of these as well, with a manual too. They are total riot off road on trails like that.
Can you guys try this with a 3rd gen 4runner? I think it would be interesting to see how it stacks up.
I wanna see this as well
you guys are really helpful and I love your channel
This looks awesome! Going watch all of these video
Love the outtakes. 🤣 the videos look so natural in the end but I’m sure it’s a struggle sometimes to produce. So again thank you for making these.
Awesome video man, nice to see what my truck can do, keep up the vidoes and I'll keep watching!!! 👍👊
Love this series
Love these Will it Rally videos
This was badass!
Great video! Glad to see the track numbers! 👍
We always changed out the taco OEM tires to stiffer sidewall..then w bilstein was ok...nice video. Thanks
I love this series! Kind of want to see a vw all track
I really like these will it rally episodes, just a sim racer here but they're awesome.
Another awesome episode!
Keep it coming!
I’d like to see a lap time of the Subaru in the dry gravel please Wyatt... 🙏🏻
Wow! Too much fun!!
Will It Rally: Honda Oddesey V6 VTEC
This video just made me smile and subscribe! Super awesome channel
I have the same truck, right down to the new frame. It has 108k on the clock. I love it and plan on keeping it for ever.
4 years later and I still love my 2010 with just over 130k I still plan to drive it for ever.
Love this series- no opinions or cheesy jokes.. just crap cars with good drivers, always the most entertaining formula
This was really well made!
Love the vid!
Those are not the stock tires for a TRD Off Road. They should be BFG ATs. Those are HTs or a straight highway tire.
Around my area this trim level got the horrible BFG Rugged Trails. The TRD Sport got the even more horrible Dunflop highway tires.
you whipped this thing, props
I got a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 TRX4 on BFG K02, Fox 2.0 rear reservoirs, Fox 2.5 front reservoirs and I like to drive it in the desert like a rally car. Too. Much. Fun!!!
Impressive driving. I’d love to go to rally school.
Awesome driving! This is super cool. Looking at it from the outside, I would have thought that the suspension was giving you the bounce. Really interesting to hear that it's from the tires. Makes sense, but I just wouldn't have thought of that. Great stuff keep em coming! Rally a smart car haha!
Sam Hardesty is it really the tirres making it that bouncy
robert espinoza That’s what Wyatt was saying in the video. If I was understanding correctly, I think he was saying the suspension setup was sort of reversed from what it should be normally. Typically I think people would want (for rally) more dense tires with a softer suspension. I could definitely be wrong though because I don’t know what I’m talking about haha.
Tires are definitely initiating the bounce but compression and rebound on suspension are way too soft .......
That suspension is set up for comfortable every day drive.....
From my experience these Tacomas (and 1st gen Tundras) have rather soft suspension that makes the truck overly floaty.
8:48 he's got his front tires in the air for at least 7 frames, "pfft tires off the ground" love it haha
Next you guys should do a 4th gen 4Runner. I’d like to see how it does
Brayden ching this!
I had an early 1st Gen and the thing was like a go kart, you could hard break and rotate left lane to left lane U-turns. Downside was that it was squirrely when the road was wet.
Awesome video! First time seeing this channel & now u have a new sub! I can't wait to see what u have in store in your upcoming vids.
Thank you!
@@Teamoneilrally- No, Thank you!
SICK!!! I love beasting my 4runner around! I need to come to Team O'Neil for some laps!!
Sir William Goes do you have full time awd or 2wd option? i've got an '04 and i was thinking about pushing its limits after watching this :)))
@@dogwalk3 I have 4wd not full time
I got an 08 with the V6 auto, crew cab longbed 4x4. I love that truck. Mine has the tow package and i use it quite regularly to tow a trailer. Somehow mine passed the frame recall. I live in the rust belt so I always make sure it is undercoated.
Great video!
Really good video.
No way I could get my truck to do that, but awesome that you can. Makes me wish even more that I had specified a manual when I bought the thing...
Speed and Power.
Give a shot on the 1999 Honda Accord Coupe. I used to drive that car a lot to school and back, and I had a lot of fun ripping through grass fields and small dirt/gravel paths with that thing.
I'd love to see what an actual pro rally car would do and how it would compare.
It would smoke this Tacoma as shown, most likely.
I'm Glad that I found this channel and section will it rally?
Smashed that like button before i even started the video
Great vid as always. Waiting for the first car that earns a WON’T rally verdict. Global day of disbelief and mourning will follow.
Daaamn theses videos are cool
This is amazing, how did i not know this existed
Welcome!
Awesome! Would love to see a first gen Subaru Crosstrek on this segment!
this thing must be so fun to do stuff in, especially that shot at 8:26, all bouncy and stuff
Can you guys do a Jeep Wrangler will it rally video. It should be interesting
ua-cam.com/video/Uvg4q0ZSecc/v-deo.html
Man this looks like fun and U have some rally skills👌🏾, I'll check out your other vids of the course, I have a 2012 TRD sport manual transmission 4x4 and would love to "rally" like this even though I've never done it before, looks like fun
Got a little biege Colo similar to the Taco that I used to race at night on 15 miles of dirt. Top stretch was 85 into a nice gradual right. Real nice area. Now I play PS4 that way, lol
Woooooo epic :D
Hey, I thought you're not supposed to pendulum turn a high center of gravity vehicle! that's what I they told me in the 5 day course. Nice video! I love the camera view looking at the pedals. Keep it coming!
Yes, yes it will
From experience
You can modify it to have the all time rear locker... Just a fun option!
Love your video's man, could you do a mitsubishi 3000gt vr4 ,I always wondered if this car could rally because it has a 4x4 turbo set-up.
I own a 2015 sport TRD nice truck first thing I did was get rid of those balloon tires. Got some nice A/T s an rally began!
I like this series so much not just the series but the whole channel as well
Doesn't have the over produced feeling of other car channels
Keep it up, you're doing a fantastic job
Is there any possibility you can do a d40 nissan frontier ?
Thank you for watching our videos! We have 2-3 people total involved on each video including Wyatt.
Keep letting us know what you want to see in our comments. We will keep working to find cars you want to see.
I would love to see what you think of the "auto LSD" function in 2wd. In 09+ they got rid of the clutch pack LSD in the TRD Sport and gave a traction control setting that does not limit power but reduces one tire fire by using the brakes.
It’s always worse than an actual LSD
Not surprised these trucks do well. They always seem to be a popular choice with people who need to use their trucks for alot of different things around here
If you get one to use, try using Frontier.
Cool vids!
one hell of a driver
MY lord, you are an absolute animal! One of these days I'm gonna have to come up there and get a few lessons from you! yeeeesh
It's be interesting to compare it to the XRunner... Good episode. First of yours I've seen. 👍
Thanks Stu!
First gen Rav4s also rally surprisingly well.
good video. try Tacoma 2019
My tacoma is identical but its the access cab, It gets sideways very well!!!
Nice!
When will you do a First gen?
more impressed by the footwork than the vehicles.
For shits and gigs I'd absolutely love to see yall try to rally a duramax 😂. Feel like a full size 3/4 or 1 ton truck wouldnt be fun. Entertaining though!
Yeah those Michelin’s are a very comfort oriented tire. Super thin sidewalls that are not very stiff at all. Definitely not the tire I would run on anything off road biased.
Yay Taco's! I love mine but I baby it too much to rally it!
Makes me want to rally my vw
Man that looks like fun! I’d like to rally my V8 Dakota. It’s a hoot on dirt roads.
Great video, that’s awesome. Subscribed. What tires would you suggest? Thanks
We're switching tires on it now and we'll take it out for another lap this afternoon to see what happens!
It's funny I didn't see this before. I'm actually building a rally pickup right now, with plans to run it early summer of 2021, there's a decent history of mini pickups in US rally, so it will be a blast if nothing else.
jesus, seeing sth the size and mass of a freighter swinging round gracefully is nice, wonder, though, if you could get a like a semi or a tractor to do it too. . .
