For Power Within and anyone daring enough to try, instead of going up at the insect monster, you can actually just go straight ahead towards the spell and roll past it. Here's the catch: there's a 50:50 chance that you'll die before reaching the spell. Two years unhelpfully late but if anyone is wondering, the part of the Anor Londo church you walk up to get to the rafters is called a "Flying buttress" and they're used to help disperse the immense weight of the brickwork in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Probably, I may never gonna try this but your effort put in this video is remarkable, It maybe more than a no damage run, keep up the good work, our community need people like you guys, respect !!
So, the reason you couldn't use Power Within when you entered the Four Kings is because you had a Transient Curse on. It counts as a body buff and therefore can't be stacked with Power Within or other buffs like it. I know this because one time the ghosts followed me through the fog wall, I put on a transient curse to deal with them, and then was confused as to why I couldn't apply power within before falling down into the fight...
Great video! I remember doing Sword Hilt only run few years ago. I was blown away with how strong the magic buff actually is in DS 1. I like your Nito kill the most as you did it way cooler than me because i just went full Havel armor, using poise to tank both Nito and the skeletons =D
The enemies that automatically hand you purple moss are the toxic dart blower enemies. Given that they apply very deadly poisons and can fall to where you can't reach their drops I guess fromsoft wasn't willing to be that brutal with them and just decided to throw you a bone.
many years ago I did a deprived, no bonefire, no estus run, it was like a no hit run but worse, would not recommend, still managed to beat the game tho
i have finished this game with a shield only build for damage (all bossess without skipping, just a regular playthrough except i can only use a shield). So i figured i knew everything about this game by now. But i learned a few new things, like that pinwheel can shoot fireballs. Thanks!
The random purple moss droops in blight town are given to you when the toxic dart shooters die. So if your running through the area past them there's a good chance they will fall off the platforms they are on similar to the painting guardians in the Anor Londo rafters.
was wondering why this video is so long, turns out it's because there's a ton of extra info in here and you didn't just cut from boss to boss like some other videos for dks challenge runs do. great work!
I appreciated the useful tip on evading four king's grab attack, although I will probably not remember it whenever I'm gonna play the game again. Personally, I backtrack a little, and then approach the grab with """approximately the same timing""" as the thrust attack from the darkwraiths. I understand that you're used to play the game in a "reliable" way, since bossfights in challenge runs can take a lot of time, but I was surprised by how much caution you took with super smough. Honestly, when the fight is not gonna last ten minutes and you're not super vulnerable, if you just stay close the only thing that can happen is being taken by surprise by his buttsmash (imo it can be reliably avoided if you just pay attention), or him randomly activating the sweeping run attack
The chandelier joke was quite a laugh out loud moment. People gave me looks 😂 Btw I loved the rope firebomb addition in DS3 to hit thing right below. Pretty cool addition to address an obvious flaw in throwing weapons.
In dark souls vanilla without any patches. A +5 enchanted club was insanely powerful. It use to grant intelligence scaling and not grant any magic damage. Thus, you could cast magic weapon on an enchanted infused weapon. The club also has reduced scaling past +10. In essence they implemented two nerfs to prevent players from a super powered weapon. A +5 enchanted club use to grant an S rating for intelligence.
In Dark Souls 2 (Vanilla version), I did a Ladle run in “Hardmode Covenant” (Covenant of Champions: +20% Defense, +33% Damage). It was hard as nails, for awhile. It’s well known that Infusing it with an Old Mundane stone, or Poison Stone, can turn it into a serviceable weapon, that with skill, can beat the game. The problem is getting the Dull Ember, which Steady Hand McDuff requires to become a blacksmith. In Scholar, it’s easily done by beating Pursuer, gaining access to A Tower Apart bonfire, where the chest with it is. However, in Vanilla, the Dull Ember resides in Iron Keep. This means , at minimum, you need to kill Dragonrider, Skeleton Lords, Covetous Demon and Mytha. But you’ll probably also need to kill Last Giant and Pursuer, (to get the Ring of Blades.) (I used Magic Weapon from Carhillion)( I used Old Sun Ring, Skeleton Lords and Mytha) The fights I listed mostly took forever. I was doing literally around 9-16 damage. The Ladle is broken the entire time, and the Hardmode Covenant damage resistance was rough. The biggest Hurdles were the 4 Pinwheel Skeletons in Skeleton Lords fight (only 2 in Scholar), and Mytha, mostly because she regens HP in the poison moat. I had to use a couple black firebombs to kill a couple Pinwheels. They are just too fast. I wore the Old Sun Ring, and was able to kill a couple of the other mobs. Mytha was the last boss, and toughest, because I couldn’t out damage her hp regen. So I did what I had to do. I used up all the consumables like black firebombs , throwing knives, etc. that I had found. I didn’t want to buy any bombs. It felt like it would be against the challenge. But I knew Mytha was almost impossible in Hardmode. So I focused, and carefully killed Mytha with the consumables I had found, first try. It means the run isn’t pure Ladle. But the run wasn’t going anywhere without beating her, and I just found her almost impossible in Hardmode with a broken ladle, magic weapon sorcery, and Old Sun ring. So I but the bullet, and bombed her. After the giant pain in the ass it was to get the Dull Ember and infuse the Ladle with Mundane, it almost feels like cheating to hit for around 90-100 damage. Once infused, the game is pretty much in the bag. It’s all skill from that point, because you still need to survive long fights. But at least the 10+ minute fights are over. A really fun run, but very tough start. I’m sure there’s a souls savant who can beat Hardmode Covenant Mytha with just a broken ladle, on their way to the Dull Ember. But it ain’t me. At least not today.
The parry animation causing Gwyn to miss might be in the other From games too. I can confirm it is in Sekiro as sometimes a deflection doesn’t connect but instead the enemy attack wiffs. It’s something I was starting to learn to duplicate and it’s a factor of position and timing. You have to be close and towards direction of hit box movement as well as super precise timing of perfect to just a hair after perfect (slightly late) for the deflection.
It can even happen with blocking animations, like how certain blocking animations will make Nito's ground sword attack miss you even though it goes visually right through you
super irrelevant a year later but this exists in elden ring too when using the buckler to parry the bell bearing hunter's forward lunge stab . Sword goes through my skull, no damage where id usually be wrecked
that trap at the top of the boulder in sen's fortress, if you just sprint over the button across the trappeded hallway, none of the darts should hit you
Hahahah! That’s a great way to put it. I hadn’t played DS1 in around 8 years. Just popped it in last week to try to finish it (all I had left was Manus, _MAYBE_ Kalameet - I have to check - and Gwyn). Manus is kickin’ my arse! I see why I originally “took a break.” Lol.
An easier way I've found to get past the border in Sens Fortress. Is to start running but pull up the exit menu. Once you see or hear the border coming, then save and quit. When you load back in the Border will be reset.
Watching that bolder take out the snake man by Onion Bro gets me every time, he just looks so excited to come and bite you and then BAM!! bolder. Classic.

I just finished a Velka-themed run of sorts a couple days ago. Was rushing to get the Rapier and whatnot, so went into Queelag super early. Thought I'd summon for the fight and.... Got a rando who derped and died almost immediately and Mildred who got stuck in a loop running into Lava until SHE died. That meant I had to down a three-player Queelag basically by myself using a Bandit's Dagger that was dealing something like 19 damage per hit (I had the estoc too but that wasn't working out so great either). I'm very envious of your Straight Sword Hilt DPS =P
For those of you who find the blighttown insect too adorable to kill you can also grab aural decoy and get him to attack that instead of you long enough for you to fast roll in, grab power within, and hopefully roll or run back out in time to avoid his cuddly claw like attacks. I got it to work pretty quickly but you’ll want to aim so he does the stomp attack on your side first and not the wild slashes.
1:20:40 the reason bc you can't cast power within there is because you had transient curse active, which counts as a body buff, and you can't stack two body buffs
1:20:50 It looks like you used the item that makes the ghosts hittable without being actually cursed. It counts as a body buff and since you cant stack buffs in this game no Power Within
Wait... seriously? Transient curse prevents you from using power within? I honestly never noticed that or even heard of it before. Pretty weird that they would qualify it is a body buff. But yes you are correct, I just checked the wiki and it says: "Transient Curse is a Self Buff and interferes with other such buffs (i.e. Great Magic Barrier, Green Blossom, Power Within, etc.). As long as it's active it's not possible to cast other Self Buffs and vice versa." I guess you are never done learning things about this game.
Regarding the dogs: The best strat I've come up with, is at the moment they jump at you for an attack, roll backwards, in the same direction they are attacking, then r1 attack as you come out of your roll. It puts them directly in your attack path, just as they finish they're attack, and before they can jump away like the cocaine-crazed Capra comrades they are

Obligatory ZeroLenny reference>

Great video! I remember doing Sword Hilt only run few years ago. I was blown away with how strong the magic buff actually is in DS 1. I like your Nito kill the most as you did it way cooler than me because i just went full Havel armor, using poise to tank both Nito and the skeletons =D
Yeah it's pretty surprising how powerful you can make a weapon that by itself only does 2 damage.
Press Continue: This weapon sucks
ZeroLenny: First time eh?
Dude you are insane and I like it, more runs like this one!
This is so so helpful for the build I have in mind, thank you for the Bed of Chaos and Nito advice
The enemies that automatically hand you purple moss are the toxic dart blower enemies. Given that they apply very deadly poisons and can fall to where you can't reach their drops I guess fromsoft wasn't willing to be that brutal with them and just decided to throw you a bone.
Amazing how he dodges so well improvising.I almost always get caught on hitboxes, but I do use heavier armor than this guy.Still,amazing.
I've been watching your videos all day and im loving them keep up the brilliant work
Awesome :D and thanks for watching
I love watching your videos. I don’t even play this game so and yet you keep me so entertained. Thank you man
I've done the sort of run through Anor Londo like that on a Havel build.
Ran from Undead Parish to inner Anor Londo without any bonfire.
many years ago I did a deprived, no bonefire, no estus run, it was like a no hit run but worse, would not recommend, still managed to beat the game tho
i have finished this game with a shield only build for damage (all bossess without skipping, just a regular playthrough except i can only use a shield). So i figured i knew everything about this game by now. But i learned a few new things, like that pinwheel can shoot fireballs. Thanks!
The random purple moss droops in blight town are given to you when the toxic dart shooters die. So if your running through the area past them there's a good chance they will fall off the platforms they are on similar to the painting guardians in the Anor Londo rafters.
didn't even realize it was one and a half hour long, informative & entertaining 😊
was wondering why this video is so long, turns out it's because there's a ton of extra info in here and you didn't just cut from boss to boss like some other videos for dks challenge runs do.
LMAO "he went plungee without bungee" 😂😂 2:00
11:42 took me by surprise and had me rolling.☠
my guy just narrated a whole movie long video, what a legend praise the sun
10:56 it sounds like you said paining guardians, and that is what they are.
An accurate description by accident
The chandelier joke was quite a laugh out loud moment. People gave me looks 😂
Btw I loved the rope firebomb addition in DS3 to hit thing right below. Pretty cool addition to address an obvious flaw in throwing weapons.
It’s also amazing how much Dark Soul content I still consume after 10 years of this game release! Hahahahaha
I watch an ungodly amount of dark souls content
Dude, you are wild.
I have enough trouble with this game normally, never mind doing something like this.
41:42 WOW, that could've been an actual play on Smough's part. If Ornstein used a move that couldn't be rolled into, you would've been dead there.
DS +0 Straight Sword Hilt: “You’re never gonna get my power!”
DS2 +0 Handmaid’s Ladle (broken): “Do I look like I need your power?”
It's practically a butter knife that can't even cut butter.
Not even undead butter
Not even melted butter
But you’ll probably also need to kill Last Giant and Pursuer, (to get the Ring of Blades.) (I used Magic Weapon from Carhillion)( I used Old Sun Ring, Skeleton Lords and Mytha)
The fights I listed mostly took forever.
This is criminally underrated
I like how informative this video is. You explain it as though we are all going to try this insanity. But actually you made it seem doable 😂
I can't wait to see all the challenges people will do in Elden Ring.
"How do you survive with only straightsword hilt"
Look to papa ZeroLenny, and realize that it takes nerves and patience of steel.
Ahhh yes, the ZeroLenny playthrough, love to see your spin on it.
that trap at the top of the boulder in sen's fortress, if you just sprint over the button across the trappeded hallway, none of the darts should hit you
This video makes me want to reinstall Dark Souls to try and finally beat it, up until you get to Blighttown and my 'Nam flashbacks kick in.
Watching that bolder take out the snake man by Onion Bro gets me every time, he just looks so excited to come and bite you and then BAM!! bolder.
Classic.
Gwen: Ah here comes the chosen undead with a WHAT? A broken sword? How dare you… dead 💀
Used firebombs on asylum demon, run invalid. Lol but seriously awesome vid, keep up the great work, incredible content as always
Side note, could someone tell me where he got the sorcerer's staff from? I seem to have missed it
LOL thanks, actually because there were a couple of other people complaining about the firebombs, that's why in my no soul run I fought the asylum demon with the sword hilt even though there was absolutely no reason to do that in that run. And the sorceres staff I bought from Rickert in new londo
@@PressContinue wow really? I was just joking it didn't seem like that big a deal. Also thanks for the clarification, was not very awake while watching and must have just spaced out that part
His character is the speed running starter pack
Wow! The quality of your guides is extremly impressive! Too bad crown of dusk doesn't buff weapon buffs.
I want the story behind this poor sword, like it's so chipped and crappy.
It's definitely served well and must be excited at this chance to be a weapon yet again
Holy cow... I did it! I did go to Anor Londo and pick up the great magic weapon spell, haha! Here we go!
Let's G O go ho gyahooooooooo
42:15 that level of synchronization 👏
I just finished a Velka-themed run of sorts a couple days ago. Was rushing to get the Rapier and whatnot, so went into Queelag super early. Thought I'd summon for the fight and.... Got a rando who derped and died almost immediately and Mildred who got stuck in a loop running into Lava until SHE died.
That meant I had to down a three-player Queelag basically by myself using a Bandit's Dagger that was dealing something like 19 damage per hit (I had the estoc too but that wasn't working out so great either). I'm very envious of your Straight Sword Hilt DPS =P
Lol, that indeed is a quite an experience
i love the way this guy says homeward bones. He has forever changed the way i say it. "humwert bewns"
I just noticed how the Pisaca's death sound is the same one as the carrion crows from bloodborne, Pretty cool.
13:40 you dont have to ring the bells you can just talk to Kaathe in the abyss and he will take you to place the lord vessel.
We have ben fooled
This entire video was just an ad for his ng+7 dual caestus sl1 run
Love your guides! Always super informative and super entertaining!
Thanks hmq :)
"consumables will only get you so far"
the backlogs: (laughs in firebomb)
1:20:40 the reason bc you can't cast power within there is because you had transient curse active, which counts as a body buff, and you can't stack two body buffs
1:20:50
It looks like you used the item that makes the ghosts hittable without being actually cursed.
As long as it's active it's not possible to cast other Self Buffs and vice versa."
I guess you are never done learning things about this game.
@@PressContinue yup
I too learned it the hard way
And I had trouble beating the gargs with the drake sword lol xD nicely done
Even if i don't watch this kind of content often. I'm still gonna sub for the effort put.
*gasp* the legendary broken sword run
I haven't even played dark souls, and this is my favorite wespon in the game
Zerolenny: Allow me to introduce myself.
I really enjoyed the structure of this video.
Regarding the dogs:
The best strat I've come up with, is at the moment they jump at you for an attack, roll backwards, in the same direction they are attacking, then r1 attack as you come out of your roll.
It puts them directly in your attack path, just as they finish they're attack, and before they can jump away like the cocaine-crazed Capra comrades they are
Sometimes I just come back and revisit the " oh nice first try" part😂
i fucking love your videos just watched this from start to finish!
I am enjoying this video so far and it brings me memories from when I played dsr on switch was a great game with some amazing boss battles that I was able to conquer best one being knight aurtorias
Omg wow! I thought nobody else played on the switch! 😎
I still remember sitting on the bus back home from school shooting the dragons tail with a bow to get the drake sword 😂
@@losertrap1031 oh wow! Lol(?)
I love the glowing Pepsi colors
FYI you don’t have to kill the sorcerer, the slumbering dragon ring can be picked on a dead body inside Sen’s Fortress
Right you are. So he died for nothing. What shame... he was a good man... *lipsmack*... what a rotten way to die.
