Michelle Mann. Ha ha! Me too! My birthday's coming up on April 1st and my husbands never learned it to play it for me, so I'll just have to play it for myself then! }=^p
I believe the song was recorded in 1965, it was actually an award-winning song written by Paul McCartney, an excellent job on this, the b-flat7/#9, puts a suttle "french" flare to the song.
I've been playing Beatles since I was 13. Now I'm 69, and still playing. I'm a decent amateur player, yet I must not be ashamed to admit that I was not playing Michelle properly, before I met with your tutorial. I can now, at least, play a much more proper guitar backing when singing Michelle. Thanks a lot! Your Beatle guitar tutorials are almost perfect.
Hey thanks for this great lesson! I am a hospice musician and visited a 70 year old female patient on our service. I asked her if she had any favorite songs and she said “Michelle”. I had to tell her I didn’t know that Beatle’s song and I played a few others. I did tell her I would see if I could learn “Michelle” by my next visit. I checked out a few other instructional videos for the song here on UA-cam and came across yours. Very direct and to the point and I am excited to say I’ll be able to play and sing this lady’s request at my next visit with her. Thanks again for your lesson!
You are the best teacher Ive seen. You get into the details while showing each, slowly and repeatedly. Lessons for beginners, not pros who just want to learn the song (although they, too, can get a lot from this). Thank you.
Loved this tutorial so much! As a Beatles fan I love to hear how they wrote the song and the history on how they chose the chords and stuff. Plus it sounds so accurate !
"hope you get something out of it..." I got the whole thing out of it! Thank you so much. I'd never think to tackle this song had I not seen your video. Love it! Much gratitude.
I had always thought of this song as a bit twee until I realised how cool and unusual the chords are that Paul used in it. Its actually a beautifully sculped song. Lovely work by Andy bringing it to life.
I gotta say, I look for your instructions first, now. I almost gave up trying to learn anything new after playing for over 50 years (thought the really good guitarists must have more fingers or something). Now, I'm able to entertain myself and not want to see if my guitar can fly! lol Keep on instructing!
Another AMAZING lesson!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for all the hard work you must put into these lessons and thank you for sharing them with us all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for showing the real way they played it, I have two books that show it wrong and it’s annoying. That second chord is a tough one to grip so it’ll be rewarding to nail.
It's a weird ass chord. On the first go through I realized I could just play an F Maj and then hit notes after. It's a tough one to nail at once though.
Just another great song to do, I just hope all these new guitar players coming up don't forget what great song writers Paul and John were, I don't think there is a song on Rubber Soul that I don't love. Thank You Andy
I have struggled with this song for years. Your lesson made the sun shine.. I SOUND SO MUCH BETTER. So many thanks....By the way...you wouldn't be Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) teaching guitar on the side? Brothers? Just asking. Thanks again.
+gil cretney You're welcome Gil. No, I'm not him, or his brother, but Better Call Saul is my favorite series and Bob Odenkirk is perfect as Saul. cheers
Dude you are amazing! After your tutorial I've been very encouraged to play this song how it should be played....Thanks man, keep them Beatle songs coming 😀
Dude, I just kinda love you... hehehe The time of work I really appreciate here on youtube. You rock, boss. Thanks a lot for your effort and great job. Keep it coming ! :)
Can you please do a tutorial on Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. There are many many tutorials on youtube on how to play this song, yet you always have the best lessons on the entire internet, and I applaud you for that. I understand that you spend a lot of time on these videos and would love for you to help me learn this song. I have learned both solos of comfortably numb and goodbye blue sky, but only because of your fantastic teaching. Thank You.
that "B flat seven sharp nine" is found in the Mickey Baker Jazz Guitar Method which was a popular instruction book written in the 1950's. It was published internationally and was quite popular with aspiring jazz guitarists. I'm sure that was the chord shape that you're referring to. It's listed in the chord reference page as a D13 flat five, flat nine (moved up two frets to make it a E13 flat five, flat nine. Crazy how identical chord shapes can have different names!
This is a really terrific lesson - thanks so much. I know that Bflat7#9 shape as the 'Mickey Baker' chord from his 'Jazz Guitar' book (although he used it as a 13th chord for a different root). Such a cool sound - you can understand why they couldn't resist it.
Wow, I've been performing Michelle in the same key but capoed 2nd fret, and now I see that unusual cord that McCartney talked about in that new "doc" with the long haired bearded producer guy, It's like the Hendrix cord the "F" 2nd cord in the verse, there it is, amazing. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY,, please do a video showing McCartney's song "Acoustic Phase" from Londontown I think you are the ONLY guitar teacher who can learn and show to us slightly advanced guitarists. PLEASE,,,,,,, I'll be waiting and watching
Congrats for the tutorial. I followed several songs, including some ELP ballads. Just a little suggestion, if I may. I think the Bflat7#9 sounds better with the minor key chord. Sounds better to me, what do you think? My name is Giuseppe and I am writing to you from Rome, Italy. Thanks again.
Hola desde Chile eres de lo mejor amigo muy bien explicado el tutorial bendiciones desde la distancia...Disfruto esto porque me gusta mucho la música sobre de los (Beatles) gracias amigo.Chao.
Nice video! Are you sure about the recording date (1:27)? The Beatles didn't play in the US until February of '64, I don't think Rubber Soul had been made before their US debut.
Great tutorial. You say that you'd post a link to "the Beatles bible". I cannot find that link. Which book is it? Thanks @Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials
Shutup & Play - guitar tutorials Thanks for all your hard work and well produced tutorial videos. Your playing is always so clean and you have a lovely tone. However, when you stated that this song was recorded in 1963 I nearly spat out my horlicks! Rubber Soul was recorded and released in 1965, no?
@@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials I must apologise. I was so focused on your hands and your voice that I missed the little caption. Thanks for pointing out the Beatles Bible, very interesting.
I am confused, McCartney clearly showed the chord structure in a not that long ago interview at a British college. He commented about learning different chords from I believe jazz artists. I may be wrong about that. But it was from learning different chords that he emerged with the basic chord for Michelle. It was not Capoed. It was played down on the neck near the nut.
No worries. You're talking about this video ua-cam.com/video/N8OY2MKVhpY/v-deo.htmlm40s PM is talking about that F7#9 chord that he learned from a guy called Jim Gretty who worked at Frank Hessy's music store in Liverpool. He's just demoing the chords from Michelle without the capo in that video. In this video of the Michelle performance at the White House you can clearly see the capo at the fifth fret but it's the same chords. ua-cam.com/video/yrRLH-ZGZEs/v-deo.html Hope that helps. cheers Andy
I've decided to learn this song so I can play it to myself on my birthday - an ode to me from me

3 Years Later I hope you have a wonderful birthday whenever it is
6 birthdays later, hope you are well, and learned to play the song!
Aww that's lovely. What's your name?

So that's how the introduction is played ..that has escaped me for so many years..Bravo. Thank you for this tutorial. Keep up the great work 👍.

when i'm 64 the beatles. you are the best in youtube! i trust on you!
Thanks for showing the real way they played it, I have two books that show it wrong and it’s annoying. That second chord is a tough one to grip so it’ll be rewarding to nail.
Brilliant tuition to another fantastic musical jigsaw from the scouse lads
Thanks to you and the Beatles
excellent lesson again keep the Beatles stuff coming 👍
That B Flat Seven. Sharp Nine Chord is kicking my butt!!!
Thanks for the tutorial :-)
It's a weird ass chord. On the first go through I realized I could just play an F Maj and then hit notes after.
It's a tough one to nail at once though.
Yours are just absolutely THE BEST breakdowns and lessons! Thanks so much for doing them!
One of my favorite Beatles tunes.
Thank you. Can't wait to play it with my wife. We love doing Beatles tunes as an acoustic duo.
Love the intro to this song...
Just another great song to do, I just hope all these new guitar players coming up don't forget what great song writers Paul and John were, I don't think there is a song on Rubber Soul that I don't love. Thank You Andy
Thanks for explaining some parts for which I've never before heard a satisfactory explanation. Great stuff!
What expert instruction! You're the best instructor on YT for sure - thanks
Spot on as always. Many thanks.

incredible tutorial... great song by an incredible music master... thanks so much...
Shutup & Play - guitar tutorials oh holy night
your videos are so cool, can you do something by the beatles?
Your videos have inspired me to learn guitar so thank you.
I am actually learning how to play The Beatles with you. This is wonderful, thank you.
The Bb7+9 chord shape was used by George on 'Til there was you' at the end of the solo. He used it on the 2nd Fret so it's a bit harder to play.
OUTSTANDING! best lessons on web

Amazing. Thank you.

The song itself is musical genius.
George really killed it on this one.
Paul wrote it
I've enjoyed your lessons a lot. They are very accurate. Thank you. I was wondering if you could do "Try and Love Again" by the Eagles please?
Thank you so much, best tutorial for this song 👍🏼
Muy importante y necesario saber bién tocar este tremendo tema.."Michelle"muchas gracias por enseñarlo.
Nicely done, much easier after revisiting. Thank you. Does anyone know if the Beatles Bible is selling under a different name now?
Thanks a lot your bright explanation, realy helpful 4 me, brother
Wow awesome lesson
+popstotexas Thanks bud.
Learning this one without the pinky on the b flat chord, I think it still sounds fine
Great teacher.
great lesson thanks
Always wanted to know. Thanks very muh☺️
stunning!!
while my guitar gently weeps aucostic version, please do it!
hey, these are so good and exact. but one small correction (!) you only included the outro solo. the mid-song solo ends on an Ab.
Thank you sir 🙏🙏
Trying to learn this today, wish me luck 🤧🤧🤧
Great lesson! Thank you
+Ruben Lafuente Esparza Thanks Ruben. cheers

Great job, thanks 👍
Great! Thanks! Please do more Beatles! ;) By the way, i love the backround informations to that song as well.

love it, thanks!

What I don't get is the F7 position (major) when the melody is playing the minor third.
Nice video! Are you sure about the recording date (1:27)? The Beatles didn't play in the US until February of '64, I don't think Rubber Soul had been made before their US debut.
+Al Triego Thanks Al. Yeah, I screwed that up, but I corrected it with a graphic, 1:31 did you not see that? cheers
i love this song
one way ive found to make the b 7 dim 9 chord easier is to not play the top string, so i dont have to barre it. much easier
Buenísimo maestro ! Le pregunto, tiene el tema, (all right) de Cristopher Cross ???? gracias
A Bb7#9 I would called a Bbm7 or a Db\Bb, pretty standard jazz chord for F
thanks!
Great tutorial. You say that you'd post a link to "the Beatles bible". I cannot find that link. Which book is it? Thanks @Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials
Please make a tutorial for Your Love by TheOutfield, you are the only one that can do it right!!
+514rock Love that song! I'm putting it on the list. cheers
Thank you very much bro, and keep up the good work :)
Thank you!!!
Sehr geil ...:-)
As Daffy Duck said many times to Bugs Bunny - "You're....disgusting!" (LOL) And amazing. And accurate beyond belief.
Haha! Mel Blanc was a genius. cheers
It was "despicable," not "disgusting." I must be getting old.
Thanks!! Can you post a how to video of Paul McCartney's "Bluebird" song from Band On The Run. It's a great tune for guitar (as well).
+James Marshall Love that song. I'm adding it to the list. cheers
