Just became a member best I've found yet . Can you do a video on pinch harmonics , or maybe on tones , blues I have a champion 100 and can't get it dialed in quite right.
Hey Mike! Thanks for help supporting the channel! I was actually planning a pinch harmonics lesson very soon! so you might be in luck👌 In terms of tone.. I will have a think about how best to present this! It can be tricky as everything from the way you play to the effects pedals/amps and style of music all affect tone.... leave it with me👌
😢😢😢😢😢
sam, i just want to make a comment that many of us believe, but didn’t take the time to say so. You’re contribution to all guitar musicians from beginner on up, has been generous. It takes a kind hearted and humble person to take the time to share the knowledge, that at one time in your life, took many years and finances to learn yourself, and now, you share to the public that knowledge. Yes, there are many tubers that also share their knowledge, but none so authentic and simple to learn as you have displayed. I myself, and I’m sure I speak for many others, Thank You with all my heart. Why am I taking this time to comment? I have been playing for 40 yrs on and off, not as a professional but as a hobby and for enjoyment. I lost interest many times because I couldn’t put it all together. As many, I couldn’t afford lessons and work full time to support a family, still at 62 yrs old. After watching your video lessons and theory sessions, I haven’t put my guitar down every night after work. You single handedly peaked my enthusiasm. You wouldn’t believe the gear I purchased on behalf of your contribution. Tell the suppliers what I said and maybe they will supply your needs. If you would like some proof, I can share receipts and suppliers. One being a major supplier, Sweetwater. I hope this comment reaches you and once again sincerely, Thank You!!!😊
Hi Dan, thank you for this heartfelt comment! I have been running this channel for perhaps a year and a 1/2 now and I get a lot of positive feedback which makes the time it takes producing content for little monetary gain all the more rewarding! This by far is the most thoughtfully put together comment I have ever received and is very much appreciated! I hope you continue to be inspired to pick up the guitar. Once again thank you🙂
Cant agree more!
Agreed 👍🏻
I agree with Dan, I'm going to put this to use. Never thought of using the road markers. I've been playing as a hobbyist as well since '96. Need to put in that time on it now. Thank you
100% thank you
The realizations I've had in 4 minutes is absolutely unbelievable, I feel like a better musician already
Cheers👌That's Great to Hear 👍 feel free to Subscribe and don't forget to ring the notification Bell 🔔 so you don't miss any of my weekly lessons.
The only way to memorise the notes on the guitar is to sit and literally memorise the notes on the guitar. It will takes a long time. But once you’ve got it down, and once you pair it with a knowledge of what notes are contained in scales and chords it will open the door into whole new musical landscape.
Its easy if u know notes on piano
that’s so damn much to memorize
57 years and I am beginning to learn this! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
my pleasure!
You did this in the most simple, effective and time efficient way I've seen on UA-cam. 👍thanks
Cheers Brian 👌
yea so did it help you or not?
I've played guitar for 50 years and this is the best method I've seen for instantly finding notes on the guitar. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
As others have said, this is super simple and easily digestible. Other videos start off way too complicated.
Even after only doing this for 10-20 minutes I feel like I have a way better handle on my fretboard. This is such a great starting point!
Thanks for the support Josh👍
Totally agree. I must have seen over 20 videos promising to help memorise the fretboard in 10 minutes. Each one of them ends up being so complicated you just give up. Finally, the search is over. This man deserves a Nobel peace prize.
I third that !!! It’s like I feel like I might just have the life jacket I needed to be tossed !
This was the simplest explanation I've heard yet. Very effective. Thank you
Thanks Dave Choate👍
subscribed straight away. I have been self-learner and struggled so so much for years trying to find a decent theory lesson on the guitar. you've got this so very well done. straight to the lesson and no fancy time-wasting talk. Thank you so so much. I am many many many many more will appreciate this lesson.
Thankyou! it is much appreciated
I just memorized FGAB on the low E and then CDE on the A string, and continued to do the same for the remaining strings with FGAB and CDE. It’s an easy to remember pattern because there are no half steps. Whenever you get to a half step, jump to the next string.
Guitar-and music itself-is a very pattern based system. I think of each pattern is a different “angle” to view the notes. Different people will learn from different angles. There is no one way to learn anything in music!
The most important tip of all is that if you hit a block and feel frustrated because you feel like you can’t grasp something, then stop, take a break, and try looking at it from a different perspective instead of giving up. In this example, if FGAB/CDE doesn’t work for you, and you can’t memorize what is on the dots, then maybe try memorizing the notes horizontally, or carve it up in whatever way it seems to “speak” to you. Make your own system, and in the process you’ll learn a lot more than you would from wrote memorization anyways.
Cheers for the support 👍 this is a good first step if you struggle with the sharps and flats (you could always add them later)
Always beneficial to find patterns that work for you👍👍
Thank you. Any other easy ways to remember the neck, scales or theory ? BTW this video was excellent
Tbh, probably THE best video I've ever seen on explaining this concept. Will definitely be watching your other vids! Love the layout and animation, so simple and so effective.
Awesome, thank you!
The unshowy clarity of the explanation is beautifully matched by the sharp visuals. Even if you already know much or all of what is being explained it’s a real pleasure to see it done this well. Brilliant. Keep em coming.
Brilliant comment Steve Logan and Much Appreciated👍
@@Samjamguitar Thank YOU! Looking forward to your future posts.
Actually cannot explain how easy this was to understand compared to other videos, thank you so much
You're very welcome!
In decades of playing guitar, no-one ever mentioned the fret markers and their function (beyond that they exist)... but this is a sneaky way to help get around the fretboard...
With a knowledge of scales and the 'Circle of 5ths" (4ths), it's easy to define the dots in terms of the open string being the 1st of an interval -- the 1st dot is a flattened 3rd. The 2nd dot is a 4th, the 3rd dot is a 5th. The 4th dot is a flattened 7th... and the 'double-dot' is an octave.
I'm off to dump all this onto some flash cards and drill it all... Fanx! for the inspiration :)
No worries John glad you enjoyed it👍
Short, simple and straight to the point explanation! Really cool man. You are really underrated 🔥
Cheers!
under rated? by who? what? what the hell are you talking about?
I really like the way he speaks, no vaseline, no sleazy commercial inflections of voice, no suckholing, no coy self-promotions. Thank you! (Subscribed.)
I appreciate that!
Your calm voice helped me pick up on learning where the notes were on the fretboard so much faster! Thank you for taking the time out of your life to help others!
Hey no probs, glad to help!
Outstanding!!! Sir, I applaud you on your direct, factual, and real-life explanation of every beginner's (and often many others also) pain in the neck - memorizing the fretboard. You have truly provided a great deal of clarity too me (and I'm sure "many others". Thank you so much!!! 🎸🎸🎸
Thank you! It's very much appreciated! Hopefully you enjoy my other videos also👍
This video is brilliant. The only no-nonsense video I've found on this topic despite loads of other channels claiming to have a cheat method.
Thank you! Yes this method does actually work... I am yet to find a quicker/more effective way to learn this! Glad you liked the video!
I've been playing rhythm guitar for years....55 now semi-retired and decided this year to try and tackle some lead and understand the guitar better...This is exactly what I'm looking for..Thank You... ..
Cheers!
So many people are looking for easy to understand guitar lessons. This is perfect. Thanks.
cheers for your support Andy D👍
Sam, I almost started crying. You simplified this in a way that I thought was never possible. I almost gave up on figuring out where notes go, thank you!!
That's brilliant to hear! keep it up👌
That's the best video I've seen about the topic! Good job man!!!
Cheers!
This is insane. I've been struggling with fretboard memorization, and for some reason this video made it click. I have watched so many before this and still felt so lost. Thank you so much.
You're very welcome! Welcome to the channel!
This lesson just blew my mind🤯 So perfect! Simple, to the point, no rambling. Thank you so much. I’m a functional guitar player and have never paid much attention to the dots. Holy cow!! I’m so excited to see how they serve as roadmaps to learning the notes. I’m so excited to work on this. Thank you again!!
Awesome! Thank you! check out my other video lessons on the channel...lots to get stuck into!
Where were you when I needed this years ago? Love it! Keep em coming
Cheers, will do👌
Blown away. I have tears in my eyes. 😥
Wow! I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson S S👍👍
@@Samjamguitar pls do more theory videos.. I can't wrap my head around the circle of 5th's and 4th's and what does tone n semi tone (t.t,s,t,t,t,s) does
@@SS-fs5tw circle of 5ths and fourths will be coming soon... semitone is one fret and tone would be 2 frets...I will release many Lessons covering all issues guitarists struggle with in coming months. thankyou again for your support😃
I found this completely on accident, but I'm so glad I did, all makes so much more sense now, I was trying to memorize the entire fretboard but there was so much going on I just kept feeling like I wanted to give up, but this just makes so much sense.
That's Great! feel free to check out my other videos too👍
Been playing for approx 40 years and never looked at it this way. That made a lot of sense especially most of us guitarist memorise the low E, A and D strings anyway because we all venture into playing a bit of bass which therefore leaves us only th G and B string to memories. Loved your approach.
Cheers Jim 👌
As a newbie, THIS MADE SO MUCH SENSE!! I'm getting my first guitar in a couple of days, and this helped tremendously with the no knowledge I have!
I will definitely need to keep coming back to this video for a refresher. You actually helped so much! I have watched sooo many videos. They say it's easy, but then show something so complicated. Your video is straight to the point, and SOO easy to understand! Thank you so much!!
I'm saving this to my guitar playlist! 🎸
brilliant! good luck on your new guitar adventure!
That was the shortest, most succinct and best explanation I've seen of this. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
First picked up a guitar in 1991. Self-taught. Never learned how simple this was.
Better late than never!
So impressed with this guy! Quality music theory for guitar!!! Excellent! Thankyou
👍👍👍
Loving this great video, very clear delivery, thankyou!
Thanks👍👍
That’s the simplest, and best way I’ve ever heard someone break down the fretboard
Thanks! Check out my other videos for similar styled lessons!
Short, simple and straight to the point explanation! Really cool man. You are really underrated
Thanks👌
Absolutely brilliantly simple you rock brother cheers to you.
Thanks for the support Koroniria👍
Brilliantly simple and quick way to learn and find notes on the guitar. I’ve always stuttered when trying to find or quickly identify individual notes on specific strings. This makes it so much easier to find any specific note on any specific string. A well done video. Many thanks
Happy to help!
This is a superb video. I subscribed. “Learn the 4 dots on each string”.
I love the theory alert.
People are unnecessarily terrified of “theory”.
Awesome, thank you!
New subscriber on this channel! Deserve a million sub! Better than most YT tutorials just pure knowledge direct to the point!
I was trying to get my head around this - trying to memorize every #/b - but you simplified it. Well done. Thanks for posting.
Glad it was helpful!
Just a great quick explanation, where have these videos gone?
I have many more on the channel! Feel free to have a browse 👌
Great lesson Sam, thanks so much !!
Many thanks!
Thank you for keeping it simple. No one keeps it simple but says it’s simple and then goes on some crazy complicated crap, so I appreciate that.
That's what I'm going for across all the lessons on my channel! Glad you appreciate it👌
Great video, really well explained. Thanks for putting content out 🙂
Thanks Sarah! thanks for Watching👍👍👍
Very straight-forward, thank u so much
I'm Glad You Enjoyed The Lesson Maynoo Young Doc👍 thanks.
Thank you for this lesson!!!!! 🤩🤩
Glad you liked it!
I went from being a professional drummer /singer for most of my life to the guitar as well. Your explanation is making it easy for me to learn lead, knowing the notes in the various keys is the key to being proficient. Your view of the guitar neck gives me hope. Thank you.
Hey no probs! Check out my other videos..especially my lead guitar toolbox playlist!
This is AMAZINGLY simple!! Fantastic explanation! I’ve been playing for over 20 years by ear and feel. I never bothered with theory, to my detriment. After watching your five minute video, I feel I have a much better understanding of the fretboard and can’t wait to get home to apply it. Subscribing!! Thank you!!
Brilliant thanks!
Great lesson thank you!
Concise, straightforward, and helpful!
Best explanation I could find, it made the guitar notes so easy and fast to learn!
Great! Glad it helped 👌 many thanks!
Great video, clear and concise explanation 🎸🤘
Thanks iDuncan👍👍
Thanks Sam, really appreciate how easy you made understanding of every note. That would have taken me months to figure out 🙏

Best regards from Korea!
Thank you very much for the SUPER THANKS!! it's very much appreciated!
Bravo! Another brick in my learning wall! 🙏
Thanks!!
I didn’t think how important it really is when I first started. But after playing for almost 10 years, I really didn’t get that good. So in 1983 I started reading music and started learning all of those little notes on the fingerboard of a guitar slowly, but surely, my guitar playing took a turn for the better. And I think it is excellent that you teach this method. Some people may not get it in five minutes. I know I didn’t but just the same. I learned it. Glad I did sometimes it’s good to take a refresher course. I think no matter how long we apply or how many years we still like to learn new things I know I do. Thanks for the video and thanks for encouraging others to do what you’re teaching. Have a great day. Love your video.👍🏼😁😎❤️🎸☮️
Many thanks! yes learning the names of the notes across the fretboard is often skipped over when first learning the guitar. Depending on what you want to achieve on the instrument, it can be much for useful for some than others. However it is something that can benefit everyone! glad you enjoyed the lesson!
Excellent video with great tips
Thanks Thomas S 👍👍👍 Glad you Enjoyed it!
Brilliant. Thanks
Thanks Sanjeev👍
Brilliant. Thanks dude! You rock !
No probs 👌 thanks for watching!
Many thanks for this lesson, I have been trying to understand the fretboard for some time and this has made it so much easier..It was truly a brilliant lightbulb moment! It was the first lesson of yours I've watched but I am now subscribed so I can watch more.
You're very welcome!
Amazing. I love your channel.
Thanks Aaron Wilson👍👍
Mann… I’ve tried to learn it since the time I know the alphabetical order but haven’t ever pushed the thinking further, after 6 y and a half of playing, you opened my eyes! Thank you!
another point of course that helps too, is that, the note on every 5th fret is the next string up! Low E 5th fret is A, A 5th fret is D, D 5th fret is G (the one exception is G string is 4th fret to make B, then last is B 5th fret is high E.
Good stuff! Grabbing a pen and paper to drill these notes in my head!
Great👍 that's exactly what to do
This is gold!
Thank you LP tribute, I'm Glad You Think So👍
Tremendous. Excellent. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! I have a follow up lesson on my channel that will introduce an animated time based game to help you memorize everything you learned in this lesson (worth a watch) thanks again!
Thanks Sam! You are an amazing teacher! Appreciate the videos. You make theory easy!
My pleasure!
You deserve wayyy more subscribers. Your videos are literally perfect
Thanks for saying so! Perhaps one day..
Great intuitive video! Excellent for beginners and anyone who wants a clear understanding of the fretboard...

Still think my 75 method is easier to learn.

Awesome thank you!
I've played guitar for 7 years and still struggle with this, thank you so much!
Happy to help!
Good job bro! Thanks
cheers Joe wells👍👍
This is great 👍 thank you
Thanks Dan, Glad it Helped👍👍👍
Excellent video and presentation, thank you.
You are welcome!
My goal is to be able to name any note nearly instantaneously. I’ve been watching every “Memorizing the fretboard” video, searching for a new, USEFUL method. Memorize the dot notes on 3,5,7,9 IS new and superb. Why? Because there are 24 (6x4) GUIDES that don’t require a calculation, as do octaves, triangles and BEADs . There are exactly 24 stationary, relevant dots.
And Sam doesn’t claim to be Santa Claus. Sam says: “You’re gonna have to memorize dot-notes.” Poor babies! Sam’s sarcastic “Theory Alert” is perfect. To me it says: “If you’re unwilling to do ANY work, go elsewhere“. This is a VERY good video. Thank you.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Thank you that was brilliant
Thanks Antony👍👍 lots more to come
Thank you!
cheers Mike👍
Ok, this is exactly what I needed to learn and the logical and plainly laid out! Ty!
Awesome thanks!
I'm a pianist, and I don't know how I ended up here, but I did learn something new. Thank you.
Thanks!
Great Stuff. I already know this, but I can use-it-to help my friend ( who is a beginner ). Easily explained. I hit like.
Great 👍 Share The Video Lesson With Your Friend, I'm Sure It Will Help Him👍👍
Thank you. This looks far easier than many of the other methods I’ve seen on YT
Thanks Paul, Glad you think so👍
TOTALLY agree. Well done sir
Thanks David, I appreciate it👍
