Good job!
OMG. The clouds just parted and I hear the angels sing!,,
I am a student guitar player at age 72, after two years of trying this guy's techniques and that guy's techniques on UA-cam, I have to admit "Active Melody" learning system is TOP SHELF!!! And this video, is a WEALTH of information, THANKS MAN !!!!
You’re way older than me - I’m a 71 year old beginner. 😂 Yeah, I understand this. Good teaching.
And you're both older than I am - 70- but Brian is the best teacher and the sessions are so well laid out . Pickin' and grinnin' like a youngster! even pulled my electric Washburn HB 35 out of its spider-web covered case and have been playing it regularly now.
@@CaperJake I could have bought an old Washburn at Guitar Center for fifty bucks, and I passed it up. Still kicking myself.
How do you like yours? Is it old? The one I passed up looked like it could have been from the fifties.
Played nice too. I don't know why I didn't grab it.
@@johnoneal1234 I bought it off the original owner (it's an '82) in about 1988. It had a fretboard intonation issue that the manufacturer repaired for me (!) after two experts could not resolve the issue (long story). Perfect now. I mostly left it in the case for about 30 years while I played my '66 Guild and later my Martin HD28 acoustics. Now that I have learned the pentatonic scales and can improvise some pretty impressive (to me) licks, I love playing it. I have it out permanently on a stand next to my 30 watt amp and play it daily. Great sound options between the amp settings and the pickup options. Slick fretboard. Not to mention that in black cherry, it's a stunner to look at.

Omg! I'm 67 years old and very dense. You have made me see this... finally! Omg! I've struggled. Too many UA-cam-ers confusing this simple concept. Did I say Omg!
Holy hell man, you've done it!
You have distilled everything that was jumbled in my head that I've learned over the years and made it a comprehensive easily digestible lesson!
Best lesson for CAGED system. I was trying to play the C and G shapes up the fretboard and it was so hard to do the fingering. No other UA-cam teacher I’ve seen ever said differently. Best advice I’ve heard for the C and G shape is “no one plays it that way”! Thank you!!
Agree. I tried watching others on how to understand cage and didn’t get the concept
Spent 2 years learning the Notes from my stroke doctor said I could never learn this or anything. Hell bent I stumbled on this video. Lifer now Thank you so much !
I too am a student guitar player at age 63. I used to play back in my twenties and then life got in the way. I picked up the guitar again on the advice of my shrink. It's a wonderful way to deal with life threatening depression. This man's method is right in line with the way I learn best. Thank You for helping me and May God Bless!!
You sound like me Peter. I am also 63 and used to play back in my twenties. Now I am a begginer starting all over again because I have more time now, but not because of depression. Take Care.
@@dwaynelasater2350 Dwayne, bringing the guitar back into my life has been wonderful. Learning in a more formal manner has made more of a difference than I thought it would. Between the guitar, meds and counseling I am able to see myself to the next day. Everyday is a new experience in this depression but I am here today. I hope you find the reunion with your guitar as incredible as I have. God Bless my friend..
@@RealPeterGunn It's true that learning to play music on any instrument that you like can see you to the next day. We need something to look forward to. Playing music can take you to good places in your mind, even if you don't physically like where you presently are. I know that feeling well. God bless.
❤, perfect for me but I am 60 years old and that is the only difference between the two of us, you and me.. I salute you for the absolute and complete truism. Life would have been a killing bore without my playing the guitar. Played in my university days in the 80s, life got in the way and never played again until early 90s I picked it up again and I am a sociologist and Attorney and I play better like never before. My guitar is the best company, it suits spasms of depressive psychosis. Cheers
You comprehend my plight as I understand yours. Seeking out strength to survive daily is no easy chore but the guitar is a close and personal mate that makes this possible. From now until February is the worst period of time for me. I pray you continue on an incredible guitar journey. May God Bless!!@@emuoboodje4243
Musicians,
Did you just watch and listen to this post? You did ? Excellent! Now go back and listen carefully and watch it yet again! This is the good stuff!
Enjoy!
One of the easiest explanations of the CAGED system I've seen. Really opened my eyes on chord progressions and ties what I know of the pentatonic scale.
Mind… blown! After 40 years of struggling with learning and forgetting chords you just changed the way I see the guitar forever. I’ll be on this channel a lot from now on.
Bookmarked! At age 69 I have been on and off, trying to learn beyond the basic chords since age 15. This is it! This is beyond the bar chords and the first fret chords. Like unzipping a compressed file. Thank you.
I've been playing for 45 years, I've learned so much about why and what I've been doing from you, I am very thankful, today's lesson was no exception. And the way you explain things is the reason for this, bless you and please keep up the good work shops you share. Thank You very much for your patience and sharing your wisdom.
SO simple. You're an amazing teacher. Thank you so much for making this available to us!!
This is the BEST CAGED video I have seen ever! How different positions are related to the others is really useful. Thanks
I am so thankful for this guy’s guitar lessons as they help me understand more about the nature of chords on the fret board. You’re a real gifted guitarist Sir and I appreciate it very much . Thanks a lot.
One of the absolute best beginner CAGED videos I have seen so far! Thank you!
A lot of tutorials on youtube i guess i viewed a handful of them but your style of teaching made me connect the dots and i now realized i was doing the same thing without knowing it. I now fully understand the caged system. You are a great teacher thanks
Got to be the best video out there on the CAGED system. Thank you so much for all your videos! You're an excellent teacher
I watched this video a while back and wasn't really following but as I'm watching today, this mashes SO MUCH SENSE. Thank you!!
Been playing for a year and this is the best lesson. Very clear!
So glad you said, "well you can play it like this, but this way is easier"!
This is the best lesson I have seen on the caged system, I am in my 80's and still learning, thank you!
Great explanation, Brian, such a great place for beginners to start expanding. I always like to add that, for a given chord, all the CAGED shapes link from root to root. That's great way to see the entire fret board and locate all the root notes. It's just one more way to integrate fret board knowledge.
Sometimes we get a teacher that resonates on another level 💯
And you Sir are that Dude !
Thank you so much 🙏🏽
This is brilliant!!! When I think of my finger as the nut, it changes everything! Thank you so much 💗
This is the best description I have seen yet for CAGED! Very well done 👍
This is the most accessible Caged video i found. Clear, no nonsense, just the material. Most other videos ive found just go on about everything, but not the system its based upon! Thanks for this, made it more clear! This vid clicked
Incredible, im 15 minutes in and so far everything has made perfect sense, and I can honestly say its not often that happens! Good work teacher 👏
This a GREAT tutorial on the CAGED system! Thank you Brian! I'll be checking out your other videos!
What a comprehensive lesson on the CAGED.!!!!! Between your 1st Caged and this one, my whole house is lit up w/lightbulb moments !
This is the most clear explanation of CAGED I have ever seen. Thanks!
This helped me understand the CAGED system at last. 55 years old and this open up the neck for me. Thank you. thank you. thank you.
Great lesson, thank you. That information really opened up the CAGED system of chords, presented in a very understandable way!
What a great video! Thanks so much for putting this out there for us. It really helped me get a understanding of how this works. Im looking forward to practicing all the shapes. Cheers!
Been through several teachers over the years and this is THE BEST explanation and lesson I’ve ever seen, so easy to understand the way you explain it, thank you Sir
You are the first person I've ever known who taught this well. Very easy to understand and visualize. Thanks.
Sir, thank you so so much! You have no idea how much your explanation has helped me to finally, after 10+ videos on the subject, tat least start to better understand what’s going on on the fretboard 😅
I’ve learned a long time ago how to play lots of my favorite songs so I could entertain people at the campfire, but I’ve never truly learned notes, and how to freely move and find chords, and all that good stuff.
And thanks to you and this video in particular I think my understanding has finally moved into the right direction!
Thank you a lot! You’re a great educator!
OMG I'm 58 and an ear player. this is like gold for me & I'm sure many others. Thank you ❤️
What a brilliant, easy explanation! Best intro to caged system.
This is the best, easiest to understand description of CAGED I’ve found anywhere. Excellent video.
Many thanks 👍
This is pure gold. I've been trying to get my head around the CAGED system and I'm so glad I found your video. Thank you so much!
Like others have commented, I think this is the best explanation of the CAGED system that I've seen. Really useful.
As an olde bass player with a missing left pinky, I started playing 6-string guitar two years ago, and this is the first caged lesson that doesn't start out with that 4 finger reach. Thank you! I learn from you. New sub!
I've tried to learn the CAGED system with very little luck, and have watched several instructional videos, but most of them left me confused. This video is the best I've found so far! Thanks!!
Thank you for this video. I watched this a few months ago. I'm learning the notes on the fretboard and now it makes more since.
This is a great lesson on the foundation of guitar chords and how they interrelate
The best lesson on CAGED, and I have already started with my E shape practice... thank you!
This is the best video on the caged system on UA-cam. Subscribed for sure. Thanks for the Lesson!
Wow!! You just opened my mind totally
I have been a beginner with the basic cords in the first position for over 30 years
First time I see this so clearly
Thanks !!!
Thanks as always for the clear and captivating lesson, description and related musical context.
You teach very well. I'm glad I found you online. I will continue to follow you. Thanks.
A long time ago my uncle was trying to convey this information to me, but without the understanding of how this works. This is very easy to understand and has opened some new ideas up to me. I am trying to advance in my playing and I feel this is the correct path. Thank you so much, will be checking out more of your videos.
Thank you so much, first time I understand a little bit of the logic. Great teacher!
U made me understand in simple way how caged system worked and applied..thanx u sir😊
E shape: 2:38
A shape: 7:10
C shape: 14:31
G shape: 17:07
D shape: 22:09
Thanks!
Thanks
Thank you so very much Brian! I honesty believe this is the best explanation and demonstration of caged chords out there. Your teaching is exceptional!
After watching a few I think so too! This is very well explained.
As always a great lesson again this week.
Bro...Brian! Agreed, all the above!! This some of the absolute best instruction I've ever viewed!
A HUGE Thank YOU for breaking it down the way you do !
tremendous.. I started about a year or so ago, and have stayed away from this to just start learning open chords etc. I started looking around and this video is the easiest for me to understand to get the very foundation. Thanks very much.. as I progress I will join up on for more intense learning.. thanks
There are so many lessons packed in this few mins Video, Man....I could keep for some few mins and then, I had to save it for later.
What a lesson 😜, I can't thank you enough... God bless you!
This video made solid a lot of practical things about actually playing these chords without having 7 or 8 fingers, so thanks
Love your lessons, I always have an "ah ha" monment when watching! Ive made so many new connections from your lessons! thank you!
I have been watching guitar lesson videos for over a year, you are the best guitar teacher by far. Wish I had find your videos earlier. Thank you for your time, very helpful.
YES! Jesus Christ maaan! I wished I had just looked for comments like these under videos to know good teachers. Instead of wasting so much time.
This guy teaches so simply and clearly. Others are good but they forget what it is like to be a beginner. He gives the WHY and the HOW.
Now I see that so many comments said the same thing here. It was like a flag but a good flag. Opposite of red flag. 😄
Check Steve Stine Guitarzoom, thank me later.
Wow, that makes sense! I've been trying to understand this for a while. Gonna try putting it to work. Thank you
Thank you! This was the easiest CAGED video to digest. It finally clicked with me
Can't imagine a better way to explain CAGED for beginners! I know the rest of the course will be just as good! ♪💕
Great video. I've been using the A and E shape for years but was unaware of the C, G and D shapes. Thank you.
This was a breakthrough in my thinking. I have been using literally every one of these shapes all the way up the neck, but I’ve never thought about them this way.
Most easy to grasp video I have found on explaining caged system to a newbie like myself!
Thank you so much! This is the best video I've seen on this topic. I was super confused, but you made it so simple. I subscribed. 💕
Yeah I can already tell your videos will be a huge part of my learning process. Thanks man!
Excellent! Thank you.
I've been watching Marty's videos since I was eleven. Most of the songs I learn are by ear or just a quick look at the chords these days (almost fifteen years later) but every now and then I come back here for my instructionals. Thanks, Marty! Been getting your help all along. ☺️
I think I've learnt & *UNDERSTOOD* more in this one lesson than what I have done over the past 7 years! The bonus of learning about 1,4,5 & how it all comes together was immense! 👍
Thanks for that from the UK!
@Scales-n-Arpeggios
Thanks for that. 👍
I have watched other CAGED videos and it never connected like your video did. Things I was already doing without knowing what or why all make sense now. Thanks!!!
Brian, Thanks for simplified explanation. Very helpful.
Brian, As always, excellent teaching. Thanks, Jeff
This is the best explanation I've seen. Many people touch on the idea but they don't actually explain in a "for dummies" manner that answers the questions a beginner would have. I remember learning this and stumbling into what you taught and still having questions. This answers them clearly.
Yep, same here. His previous caged video was good but not like this one. I was stuck for weeks trying to understand the caged system because I was fixated on the root notes and patterns and not understanding the very basic and obvious concept of just sliding a chord up the neck and using the index finger to replicate the nut.
The first time I have been able to understand CAGED. Thank you so much.
Thank you! The CAGED method never aroused my curiosity until I saw your presentation of the CAGED guitar method. Thx!
Dude, this is a beautiful video/guitar lesson. I'll be practicing this and reading to learn how minor chords fit in with the CAGED SYSTEM if they do at all. Thank you man.
Lighting looks incredible! Great job. 💡📸🎬
Man, you explained that well. Your detail is GOOD.
I am a student with just an year of learning ( senior citizen though) , this lesson is worth a million. Some parts I knew/ practiced but now the whole lesson is the next target. Thanks a lot.
Also please make a video for minor chords( you may say apply your own mind ).
This is great Brian. So clear and succinct. Thank You!
And he’s clearly wearing pants 👖
Geez I just wanna thank you, I've been trying to understand modes and how to use them. I'm going to have to see this a few more times but I now have a much better understanding.
Thanks for this post! Grateful for UA-cam!
Wow,,, that was with out a doubt the best explanation of the caged system... thanks from the great white north.. Canada.
Excellent work as usual Brian.
Thank you very much. As a bass player starting with guitar, this lesson was very useful.
Awesome lesson Brian! I always enjoy them! Thank you!
Absolutely brilliant, so easy to follow!
Brilliant. And so well explained
Wow... you make it so easy to understand. Thank you! Awesome class!!!😊
You know that saying "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear" ? MAN! This came at the perfect time in my journey where I can finally understand it ish. Thanks for this! For me its a breakthrough!
Excellent lesson Brian, thanks!!
Thank you so much sir this is so helpful I can't even grasp the cage system the way other people explain it!' you made it much simpler and it's so easy to understand.I can't thank you enough✌😎
Wow!! 🤯 Thank you for this. Makes perfect sense.
This is the first CAGED video that actually made sense to me. We’ll done! I’m surprised to see how much of it I was already doing without realizing it.
