Watched hundreds of videos and i rarely comment. But this lesson deserves a BIG shout out. In less than 6 minutes i have learned what no one else has been able to explain in such a flawless way. I wish you hundred of thousands of subscribers. Thank you!!!
i'm really loving the fact that these type of theory concepts are starting to make sense to me and I can start seeing them applied in songs I know. Super helpful lesson and great explanation, thank you!
@NickNicometi awesome! Sounds like a good plan to me👍I will eventually release a samjamguitar book that encompasses everything I teach on this channel👍
@@Samjamguitar Cool. FYI: Rick Beato updated his Beato Book in video format. You should check it out, as it will inform you what is most current. I think most players don't want to bury their head into a book only, and including videos, esp with your concise graphics, with shine above others As a visual artist, your work just punched right through the theory of confusion l. Glad I found ya.
Just want to reiterate the other comments. You deserve millions of followers. Your videos have explained things I’ve spent hours trying to learn in minutes
Best instruction on basic music theory that I've seen in over 4 years or trying to "relearn" the guitar, the right way this time (I haven't played / studied since 1987!!!,... just retired & was looking for something to productively fill my time). Thank you for the assist,...
Thanks for that BJ Perrett👍 I'm glad your enjoying the Lessons and If you don't want to miss my weekly uploads then remember to Subscribe and click the notification Bell 🔔
I love these lessons! Right to the point with real useful information. Seems like other channels won’t give you any actual helpful tips because they’re all trying to sell you their online courses.
After several other videos, this set me to actually learning rather than memorizing chord shapes. Learning meaning that there is a mental process developing
Awesome video man, I felt like I had all the pieces to the puzzle but you showed me that I was looking at it in a more complicated way than I should’ve.
I’ve learned most of this stuff already but I have to say, I wish I’d have learned it all from this guy. He presents a very straight forward way. Like I learned it the hard way, and when I realized it and actually learned it, the way he presents it is how I understood it.
Awesome, the first time I understand what is going on, thx...and I have been intermittently at it for 3/4 years. So easy to get lost, and quit, unfortunately 3/4 years is actually less than 1 year of actual time on guitar, with many hours spent dormant or searching for something to get me moving on to being able to actually play something people might enjoy.
Wow , thank you for this explanation on key music chords and how they can work , so frustrating watching other videos that just done my head in when others understood there perception of it and I just could not grasp their theory on key chords , you made me feel like now I got this and understand it well so a big thank you , loved this video.🙏
I think the last few seconds were golden. 1, 4, 5. Find key or move up to a new key with just those notes and find chords either using those notes as the root or the same chords anywhere on neck. This means, at least to me, I need to either memorize my chords better, or find a key, figure out scale progression, find chords through research, write it down, commit it to memory, and practice like hell!
Liked and Subscribed! You’ve tapped in to how I learn. Short, concise, and direct. I’m going to use this to learn notes on the fretboard and chord composition. Brilliant!
It is! And actually is a slight graphical error on my part... as a triad it should be a simple diminished shape but as a 4 note voicing it should be a min7b5 chord.
Damn Sam!!! That's perfect bro. Don't stop! I would ask you to make a Playlist with your videos like step by step. First video, second etc... like chronologically. Learn from Haiti bro. It would help so much. One love ❤️
This is a very good explanation of chord progressions. Your tone of your voice makes me a bit sleepy, but I slapped myself awake to get the the information. :-)
great work..i jjst figured out that if u play the e shape of the CAGED, the diminished chord will be waiting for you with no shift in position,,, at least thats how i see it and now i finally see at least how to mover dimished on last 4 strings consistently.. Bad ass!

Great video. Fantastic to follow and diagrams help. Sorry if this is a silly question - but is there a similar way of identifying or a rule of what chords apply to a minor or major pentatonic scale? (e.g. Major, Minor, Minor, Major, Major, Minor, Diminished, as in the major scale?)
The minor pentatonic scale is the natural minor scale with 2 notes removed. The major pentatonic scale is the major scale scale with 2 notes removed. You can use the minor pentatonic scale over chords in a minor key and you can use the major pentatonic over chords in a major key! It's all the same👍

@@Samjamguitar quick question, the way you’re showing the diminished chord, is that technically a dim7, and in this context, does it matter?
Or is it a m7b5?
It is! And actually is a slight graphical error on my part... as a triad it should be a simple diminished shape but as a 4 note voicing it should be a min7b5 chord.
