One of best fretboard note method on UA-cam because it 1. Has a logical system 2. Can be applied to all strings 3. Reinforces names of all strings 4. And is challenging by testing understanding by use of a clever video
Haha these videos are going to get so many views from me alone. I can't begin to tell you how helpful this was. Playing guitar is so simple....but so in-depth it's fantastic for my mental health. I did have a great guitar teacher that got me into playing but I work out of town and live in my jeep so these videos are really really helpful to me. You are so awesome for taking the time to make these. Foreal thank you
Been memorizing chords and scales for 40 years, love music so much but dude your amazing. Opened my eyes to things I never bothered to try. Reading the comments makes it clear that you’re an amazing teacher who connects with people on just another level altogether…thanks so much

Hello, I will start the electric guitar soon. I started looking for videos to get me started while waiting, and yours are fantastic ! Even a totally beginner like me got it. Thank you very much to be 1) so pedagogical 2) put so much effort in the visuals and animation 3) not having fillers. A video from your about where to start in the guitar journey, what to train in which order would be pretty awsome ! Thank you sir.
Just discovered your channel and as a self taught player all of your videos are very well made and make theory easy to grasp and understand. Keep up the good work!
Oh my god! I've been learning for about a year or so and am VERY much aware of my limitations (no musical knowledge or experience beforehand) but this is the second vid of yours I've seen and it is a GAMECHANGER!!!! I've recently been wondering how I am going to commit all these things to memory and you have produced this AMAZING video! Well, I like it so much, I've just sent you a Fiver for a brew of your choice as my way of saying thanks. Although I'm sure if I paid a Guitar Teacher to teach me this, it would cost me a lot more than a the price of a beer or coffee so I am super grateful to you. I've subbed now and I'm off to see what other little gems you've got in your library...
tysm, i had guitar lessons but my teacher only focused on technique, these videos are helping me so much learning some essentails that i didnt learn from my teacher. i am going to 'play' this game so much the following days. i am a great fan of the channel. there a few channels left like yours where they dont hold you for 20 minutes but only the neccesary 5 to 8 minutes. thanks for helping me improve my guitar skills.
Just discovered (and subscribed to) your vlog site today. This video with its colored demonstrations really hit home in a way I had not seen up until now. The fret board became understandable and memorable in a way no one previously had done. Additionally, being able to test yourself and go back to see your mistakes is an unparalleled function. Thanks. I don't doubt Harrison, Lennon and McCartney did something similar to this when they were first starting out. I feel robbed knowing that you weren't available until I was much older. Well done. Brillant.
Got to boss level. With only 2 mistakes. Loved the game aspect. I can see how learning the notes across the fretboard at the 3,5,7,9 markers helps shorten the fretboard down.
Omg this was so helpful! I am new to learning all of this and this video just made it so much easier to wrap my head around the notes on a fretboard. The Piano is easy but for the guitar I was have a bit of a challenge. This game is so much fun. I will for sure keep visiting until I learn them all.
Fantastic! Let me know how you get on! Quick tip - slow the playback speed down to make it slightly easier and increase the speed when you want more of a challenge👌
@@Samjamguitar just did my second test since yesterday without any additional practice and I have already gotten 50% right!. This really works. Thanks a ton!
This is the best practice tool to learn the notes on the fretboard I have yet to find. I will play this game at least 3 times a week and see how it goes. Thank you!!!
hoooooly shit Sam!! this was so cleverly done. I love playing along with my guitar and just listen to the cue and find the note quickly by ear. Brilliantly done!
This is just what I needed. I started practicing the guitar about 4 weeks ago and I'm proud to say I made it all the way through level 5 with only 4 mistakes. I prefer not seeing the labeled fretboard though, as it might make me dependent on the labels while the guitar doesn't have any. Also, to level up further, which I plan to do when I can finish all five levels without error, just speed up the video!
Yes I can't understand why more people haven't provided that feedback on the labels. I have found it very hard not to see the answers on screen when playing and by the time the labels disappear there is only one more question left and it moves to the next level.
thank you so much for this. writing it out and reciting definitely helps with understanding the interplay across strings but this application is far me effective when it comes to the rote memorization! also the backing track in the relevant key to help identify and solidify is great 😀
You're very welcome! Learning the notes of the fretboard is often overcomplicated and can be acheived very quickly if you give it the time it deserves! great to hear this Video Worked for you👍

Great video. Something I used early on to remember which notes don’t have sharps or flats is I like my (E)ggs (F)ried and my (B)acon (C)rispy. As soon as someone told me that I never forgot there’s no extra fret between EF or BC.
This was an incredible video, but one big improvement would be to have the on screen answers disappear a lot sooner or having the video longer with a section without them. For me I found myself having to awkwardly look away and imagine the fretboard for most of the exercises and when the notes do disappear there isn't much longer left to really practice it.
@@Samjamguitar That doesn't help as the answers still remain on the screen until the last few seconds of each exercise. A shame as otherwise a fantastic and really well executed idea.
While I use the dot markers on 3,5, and 7 frets rather than using the fret marker on the 9th fret I use the 10th fret as they are all natural notes. I also tend to use mnemonics which work for me,but not necessarily others. I also use the 2 along and 2 down method for the 5th and 6th strings, the 3 along and 2 down for the 4th and 3rd string and the open C shape method for the strings 1 and 2. There are also some good apps on the markket to keep a person fresh with little quizzes on note positions on the fretboard.

How come every string starts on the same note as the string previous to it ( Going from low to high ) ended on the 17th fret with the exception of the b string ? The 17th fret on the g string is c while the next string after it is B. The entire thing is consistent up until that point.
Because the guitar is tuned in 4ths between each string set with the exception of the G - B strings (tuned in thirds) I explain this in more detail in my introductory video to Intervals which may help you understand why this happens ua-cam.com/video/ACFxPUEoBVc/v-deo.html
