  • Finding my style again and trying to figure out what size I am after a year inside... and also giving birth hahaha! I loved this video. It made me feel so SEEN as a plus size person who cannot fit in the clothes at most stores (and is really specific about what I want from my clothes). I’m sorry that you went through so many pieces and stores that didn’t work for you, but I’m so glad you shared it with us. So much of the time when I see people shopping on UA-cam they only show what works!

    • @bdp0805
      @bdp0805 3 роки тому +6

      Exactly. I also noticed a huge shift during the pandemic at stores like American Eagle who did use to keep more of a diverse size range in store, just stopped. I genuinely struggled at one point to find pants over a 12 at our local store after my pair finally gave way at the thighs, and it honestly sucked. My spouse even became frustrated at the store while he was trying to help me look for my sizes. I ended up buying jeans online from Universal Standard, but I had to buy 3 different sizes at once because I had no idea what size I was.

    • @lovinglifewitheli
      @lovinglifewitheli 3 роки тому +2

      I absolutely hate clothes shopping. I’m one of those “I’m not standard size but I’m not plus size either” people. Nothing ever fits and when I go to try something cute I see online on in store, they never have my size and am usually told by a rude stick thin sales assistant “ oh that style doesn’t come in that size” (when it’s fully available online) or “we only get one of that size in and if it’s not on the rack then we sold it already” 🤦‍♀️ it honestly makes me feel like they don’t want anyone over a size 14 (us 10) in there

    • @RachelClareable
      @RachelClareable 3 роки тому +4

      Agreed! And some of the clothes in plus size stores are so awful, all butterflies and diamanté’s! I like Old Navy’s approach of just making everything in bigger sizes, feels way more inclusive

    • @tjp2109
      @tjp2109 3 роки тому +1

      I think brands don't want to make straight sized women feel uncomfortable shopping along side plus size, but that's older generations. The female demographic these days I think is less discriminatory and more body positive.

    • @noel2223
      @noel2223 3 роки тому +2

      @@tjp2109 yeah I would agree. Also most in-store places have kind of given up on appealing to 20/30 somethings since a lot of us shop online. When they think most of us just shop online, they don’t try to appeal to us, which then makes us not want to shop in store. I’m straight sized and I don’t even bother going in store anymore. I like to think that people support size inclusive brands (SKIMS, Girlfriend Collective, AE, etc.) and if brands expanded their range that people would gravitate towards them more.

    • @FlwrCats76
      @FlwrCats76 2 роки тому +1

      Right! I went to Nordstrom in store the other day. I guess I'm considered "mid size," and that's carried in the plus size section. It was this small rack off to the side, pitiful! So we have to order all online and hope it fits, which wastes a lot of packaging and shipping back and forth. Ugh.

    • @missblueberry1033
      @missblueberry1033 2 роки тому

      @@tjp2109 I think it's more because there is only a limited amount of space in stores and they can make the most profit by reducing their size range to the most popular sizes, I have a really skinny upper body and have the opposite problem, that almost all the tops normal stores have are way too big for me

It inspired me to do a closet clean out and get rid of all the clothes I don’t use, take some quizzes to help me shape a style that fits my lifestyle now (I’m working from home and doing some freelance) and make a moodboard to help me visualize the pieces I’m missing to complete my style, make a list and do more intentional shopping!

    Seeing you struggle to find a jeans that fit, that's so relatable. Through out high school till like early 20s, I was extremely under weight due to thyroid. And as I was living in a pretty small town back then, it was so hard to find a jeans that fits. Back then skinny jeans was everything and I used to feel so bad because my jeans even after altering never quite fit well. Online shopping thankful became a thing after few years and I got access to a wider size range with forever21 kinda brands.
    But I'm glad that in the last few years I've gained like 10kgs and now I'm usually uk size 8-10. I know for many people this seems trivial, but it's a huge thing for me that I'm no longer under weight and unhealthy and I feel so confident in my body now. And to some extent watching your videos for the last couple of years helped too

I have been watching you for a while, mostly because you are interesting and know how to make a compelling video, but our styles were always very different. But I love all outfits in this vid and you have certainly given me a lot of inspiration to create new looks of my own.

    So happy to have you back! Also, I feel your pain of shopping in store for a size 20 😫 Besides Old Navy, Target and Lane Bryant I pretty exclusively shop online!

    I love watching this! Sierra, I appreciate you being so honest and real about how hard it is to find your "style" post pregnancy. 3 years later and I still don't know what my style is. But watching this definitely gave me some awesome ideas! You look amazing and you rocked all your looks. Thanks for sharing your journey

    Thank you for doing this I recently gained a little weight so I went shopping for mainly new jeans and I did feel sad that I had to look for a bigger size than usual but your so right it feels great having clothes that fits me well instead of squeezing into my old size just because it’s smaller 💓

    Welcome back!! Cute styles for you!! I’ve had 4 children. I know exactly the struggle! I was so bummed my jeans fit differently after kiddos…. BUT may I encourage you to keep challenging yourself to try new styles and trends and not to get hung up on a number or body type! All outfits can work!! All the best, sweetheart!

    I’ve been loving your Vlogs, but I’m so happy you’re back! I’m loving all of your looks, but I feel like we need a flowy maxi skirt or dress look 💕 PS. Don’t feel like you have to go full throttle coming back, I know you’re missing your time with your baby girl. We love you and support you 100%

    I so admire this. Here I am in my late 40s still totally caught up in size numbers-this last year (s) has put about 20 pounds and a few sizes on my previous size 14 body. It’s really got me down-I don’t feel like going out don’t feel like clothes shopping don’t feel like going to the gym…so this was very inspirational for me!

    You've shared you are feeling the strain of wanting to be with Grace vs wanting to be productive while working. I just feel I have to tell you that I am 55 years old and watch you. Aside from being a wonderful new Momma, you are truly phenomenal at what you do. Listen to yourself and allow yourself to ease up on the "perfection" so you can continue to enjoy both work and family. It's a gift when you can do something so well and continue to enjoy it. You will find that balance..........ps......It's my understanding that American Eagle fits slims bodies very well, so their sizing may be a bit smaller than other stores.

    I LOOOOOOOVE THIS FOR YOU! You look phenomenal & so happy! That brown shacket is amazing.
    One huge thing I’ve noticed that takes my outfits from “ehhhh” to “ahhhh” is accessories! Lots of gold jewellery, a nice watch band, matching hair clip, matching sunnies, nice bag etc. it really elevates any look and makes you look and feel so put together without having to spend a bunch on different outfits.

    Oh my gosh! I needed this. Thank you Sierra!! I soooo felt the I don't know how to dress anymore feeling. We are about the same size with similar body types, so I have long loved seeing how you style things, then I also had a baby during quarantine and feel like everything changed with how to dress myself. I think I will try this same process to try to get out of this funk. Thank you for acting like the shopping buddy I was missing 😁

    This video is so relatable in terms of just going to the store in person after such a long time, I'm glad you can show the ups/downs of shopping for items again in person and the struggles/finds you had. Glad you're back! (it felt like you were never 'away' because of your frequent vlogs!) ♥ Great video!

    I love the brown on brown look and the faux leather blazer!!!! And I don't normally like brown clothes, so count yourself to continue being a fashion icon for me Sierra! Also, I almost cried when you were telling us how you realised that more and more stores don't cater to your size, I have been in that situation so many times and I know how horrible it feels first-hand and you were so brave and inspiring! And we all know it's not because women like us are a minority, it is because there is a very significant bias towards what we *should* look like and be... F that!

    Love it. I’m right here too. Went from a 12-14 to probably a 16-18. The idea of going to the store when I have no idea what size to shop is so scary. I’ve been curating my Instagram with bigger bodies for a long time but even more so now so that I don’t compare what’s in the mirror to a smaller body. Finally dove in and hired a personal stylist to do just this with me !! Woot thanks for sharing your journey.

    Sewing made my life so much easier lol. I’m midsized (US 10-16/Medium-XL depending on the store) so a lot of plus sized things don’t quite fit right but a lot of standard sized things don’t either. I used to struggle with it so much, but I’ve reached a point where I buy the pants that are slightly too big and then take them in where needed. Obviously sewing is a time consuming hobby and it’s not for everyone, but it was pretty life changing when I realized I could make clothes actually fit me and personalize them at the same time. Plus it means I get to keep the clothes for longer since I can repair them. Would absolutely recommend if anyone is on the fence about learning how to sew.

    Ive been a size 20 for years and during covid I crept up to a 22... needing clothes fills me with dread because of all the experiences you had in the shops on the first day. Now that I'm planning with my husband to have kids I'm so worried about maternity and afterwards clothes if I become larger - I'll size out of the only in store shops i have locally.
