The best thing about watching your channel over the last few months has been seeing your knowledge of music grow! You picked this sample straight away, and are picking up on all sorts of references these day. Keep going strong on your journey man!
I love this track. I remember the summer of 1991 and the end of the Cold War, there was such an atmosphere of optimism on the air, like the human race was finally gonna make it. This just summed that whole summer up. Sublime.
30 years on, still in my Top 200. It's one of those tunes that makes me just lie back and chill out as my body absorbs every note as though they were rays of sunshine. It's fresh air, warm summer days and carefree relaxation. I could listen to it all day.
I remember the song but not the video. Always really liked the song (different from any kind of rap we’d heard til then - it’s such a chill song). The vid is great! Love the cameo at the end of Spandau Ballet’s Tony Hadley. 💗
Loved PM Dawn. They caught a lot of flack from the gangster rappers, but they always had a super chill vibe. You should check out Die Without You by them. It's my favorite.
I think part of the reason PM Dawn are so unduly forgotten these days is that the ground shifted beneath their feet as they achieved prominence. They were almost like the last of the East Coast backpack rappers holding on when West Coast rap and gangsta rap started taking over. Quirky peace & love rap was as unwelcome in 1992 as a hair metal act was in that same post-Nirvana age. It's a shame that they don't seem to get their due these days, and that they're almost entirely known for "Set Adrift" when they have lots of material as good or better.
@@DeflatingAtheism I absolutely agree. That was my favorite kind of rap back then. Tribe, De La Soul, Leaders Of The New School, Arrested Development. It's a shame that they don't really get their respect
