Really tough one to judge. The ankle could on its own be 4-6 weeks if high grade sprain. The knee, mechanism was a varus hyperextension, which at a minimum causes a lot of bone bruising and potential ACL/PCL. Hard to predict what the MRI will show so hopefully it’s good news in a couple days

Best we can hope for is Sengun's uneventful recovery. With Yao Ming's case, it leaned more on the fact that he had been playing professionally since his teenage years, and this accumulated over time. Coupled with his tall frame, even when he had strength training, Yao was basically doomed to have a short career especially back then.

A lot of people were already comparing this injury to the likes of PG’s, Gordon Hayward’s, etc. Obviously I’m no medical expert, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he wound up with a major knee injury due to the awkward landing caused by the ankle “tweak”. It reminded me of Thomas Bryant’s ACL tear, where it initially looked like a clear ankle break-coming down on an ankle that was damn near parallel with the ground-but then realizing the off-balance landing made his knee buckle even more extremely. Whatever the outcome for Sengun, I hope he’s not too affected by things in the long run; he’s an exciting burgeoning young talent.

I've been saying for months that something like this might happen! Alperen Sengun already has an unorthodox style and as long as he has to carry the team he's going to be very prone to getting injured. Alperen gets guarded more by opponents and he has to be far more active all because there's no 3-point shooters on the Rockets.
He shouldn't have to work as hard as he has to just because of teammates with low gameplay IQ and a serious lack of shooters. Either the Rockets need to fix the roster and get rid of the liabilities or Alperen should be the one moving to another team. I hope both sides have learnt their lesson.

Looks like there may have been contact with Sabonis' right knee while Sengun was in the air on the come down. Sengun's expected landing location and leg angle could've been abruptly altered because of the knee on knee contact that may have occurred with Sabonis. Who knows - possibly a medial knee contusion even prior to landing awkwardly... Hopefully not as bad as it looked... Best wishes to Sengun for a speedy and complete recovery.

I had something similar happen to me in 2011. I was in the Army and I had about 50 pounds of gear in my right hand. As I opened the taxi door with my left hand, I stepped in a pothole with my right foot. My foot, ankle and knee looked exactly like his. My ankle rolled so far that my knee almost touched the ground and it bounced me back up because of all the tension.
About 3 years later I felt a pop in that ankle while I was running and I immediately couldn't run anymore.
About a year after that, the Army Orthopedic surgeon had to do a brostrom procedure on that ankle. Now I have a wire and two bolts holding my ankle together.

Yeah looks like a LCL, which is often not that career threatening. PCL is pretty rare with this mechanism-usually more of a football or a truck collision type injury-takes a ton of force to snap that PCL.
Regarding the ankle- those ligament tears are being recognized as more problematic than we used to consider them. I hope he had an avulsion fracture rather than ligament tearing…

It is always sad and unfortunate when a player is injured, but it is important to note that these injuries can be avoided with proper training. This is not something "unfortunate" or "unavoidable."

I don't know, I rarely see these types of things happen to smaller athletes.
It's usually tall basketball players that twist their ankle and hyperextend their knees with their own load.
