When you touched on the aggressive nature of Zion's playstyle it made me think of LeBron. Could you one day cover the anomaly of LeBron, how he was able to maintain his aggressive/physical playstyle well into his mid 30s despite playing 35 - 45 minutes a night for decades?

Not then exactly, but any 2 established players that don’t get a chance. Trade Victor for two players like that and get a veteran in cp3 to maximize the winning window. Seth will average 20 with cp3, Tobias 25-30. Cp3 will get career high in assists. Sochan, Tre jones, keldon will at least average 90 points combined on a damn bad day. Perhaps. But really we'd have to dig a little deeper - does "knee soreness" count? (I'm not saying it does.) Does every little sprain and strain count? (I'm not saying they do.) I would call this astounding if only certain injuries counted or accounted for some higher percentage of these unique injuries. However, and again I'm not making the claim that what I am about to say is true, if examples such as knee soreness counted as a knee injury and finger sprains counted as unique injuries, and these types of injuries accounted for 40%+ of these injuries, it is less and less astounding.

The fact that Wembanyama's injuries have been so minor with his quick, guardlike playstyle is already an anomaly.
He moves so quickly, that in order to have played like that as consistently as he has and STILL be healthy in time for the draft tells me that mechanically he is just better at avoiding injury than other bigs his size. He will do well in the NBA for a short while. I'm hoping for at least 5 great seasons. He just needs to keep his joint exercises up, keep his feet strong, and avoiding attacking a defender when it isn't necessary.

He has his own conditioning coach/trainer/physician who focuses on his feet. The Spurs indicated they will bring this man in with Wemby. I read an interview that they are focusing on making him stronger without necessarily bulking up which I think is the right thing to do. You really do not need to put too much weight on that height. You just need to get stronger. They are in the right direction. The Spurs will know what to do with him too. They are notorious for resting players. They started it. They will know when to play him and when to give him rest.

you need to bulk up to get stronger. How else you gonna create muscle? Getting stronger doesn't just come from exercise. He'll need a ton of protein intake which comes from eating, which he doesn't look to do very often by how skinny he is at the moment. He weighs 20 pounds more than me and he's 1 foot and 6 inches taller. Even at that light weight, he's gonna need a ton of protein intake to keep his scale in the positive while working out. He'll need to have .7 to 1.0 grams per pound of his own weight.
You do the math. He's gonna have to bulk up more than "just a little" to reach that amount.

It’s a little concerning, considering the injury histories of those two. Do you have any concern about the injury Chet suffered last summer, since they seem to have similar body types? Or could that fall more into the genetic differences you references? I also worry about his feet, considering the issues Yao and other big men have had.

He seems incredibly mature and willing to put in the work. I watched an in-death video on his training approach and there was one thing I didn’t like; he doesn’t lift weights. Strength is never a weakness and has been proven to be protective against injury across all contexts (I’m a biomechanist). I wouldn’t want Wemby to gain a lot of weight suddenly but I would very much encourage his training team to add resistance training - particularly the lower body.
Added strength increases the ability of an individual to recapture their center of mass while losing balance - this prevents falls and is one of the major areas of focus when trying to prevent falls in the elderly. Love your videos!

@@wille6788 I was a very tall and skinny kid back about 20 years back. Once I hit 15 I started resistance training and did it religiously for 3 years straight and was able to transform my body type from a Wemby shape, to being a bit more muscular than Michael Jordan and my agility and speed went through the roof. Went from being barely being able to dunk, to dunking from the free throw line or just over people completely. My shooting and passing only improved and I never lost flexibility at the peak of my resistance training. Fighting inside became much easier and my rebuilds and blocks went up big time as well.
When I stopped lifting I lost my Lebron/MJ like super-human abilities within a year and then got hurt. I don't really follow Lebron much but I bet you that man puts some solid resistance training and it's the reason he is still around dominating at age 38. You can see it in his incredible physique and how just he man-handles other NBA players who are also in amazing physical shape and are also giants! It's kind of mind blowing how fast and agile James is at his age but I'm not really that surprised because I got a very personal glimpse into seeing what kind of a monster you could turn into by keeping up a solid lifting program.
I STRONGLY suspect that if Wemby started to work on increasing his strength through a smart resistance training program, within 3 years he would be completely unstoppable. Imagine if this man was 2x as strong but only 15-20 pounds heavier. Scary to think about because it's wouldn't be fair to anyone in the league.
I myself can't recommend a smart and tailored resistance training enough and now that I am an adult in my mid-forties it keeps my knees and back from hurting at all. Cheers!

    • @juqual78
      @juqual78 23 дні тому

@@MikeBryant-b9e Sadly I had a pretty bad ankle injury, a dead beat father and no way to afford surgery. America is rough when you are poor and don't have family or anyone to help you out.
That being said, I just kept going. After 3 solid years of an extremely consistent training regimen, the results really started to show. I didn't skip workouts, unless I was hurt and need to recover a bit more. The key is to keep going and to understand that getting those kind of results will take time and a lot of effort.
Mostly I used machines, free weights and would do bench presses. I worked on making my legs, specially my calves stronger and it really paid off. Strangely enough no one really ever used that calf raise machine so I would go kind of hard on it, because it was always open. Calve raises helped me go from 24' vert to about 40' in a year. I'd say jumping is 60% calves (they work like springs) and 40% the rest of the body including thighs and arms. Jumping is also a bit of a science so practice makes perfect, until it becomes muscle memory.
To get my endurance up during drills I also went hard. Don't look at it, as "Just practice" . Give it your best and push yourself.
And most importantly, listen to your body. Pain is an important thing to listen to. Pain in joints means you need to adjust your workout to preserve them the best you can. If you hear popping or any kind of grinding stop and stretch a bit and give it a few minutes to work itself out. If you pull a muscle you might need to heal up and back off some weight until you can get it right. When I was recovering from injury I would do lighter weight, to get myself back into the routine, until I could again push myself with more weight.
Take your time with training. It's a slow and steady race and it's the tortoise that's consistent wins. Rabbits just hurt themselves and can't finish the race. Also you do NOT want a back injury. Don't train so hard you hurt it. So many great athletes end up hurting it and unlike other injuries, they are extremely difficult to deal with/come back from.
Also not every exercise that is good for me, will be good for you. You need to find what works for YOU. Some simply caused to much joint pain or back pain so I did others instead. Cheers and good luck!

I am not a medical professional, but one thing I would like to mention regarding his health is that he has been training at a professional level with professional teams and their trainers, coaches, nutritionists, medical staff, etc for years. He isn’t coming in from a background of brutal AAU schedules prematurely wrecking his body and eating a diet of American school cafeteria food and McDonald’s. His process surrounding his rise has been very polished since the beginning plus his lean frame puts less stress on his joints, ligaments, and tendons in his lower body than a heavier guy like say Embiid has to deal with. So while of course the injury concern is always there for a guy who is seven feet and up, I don’t think he is an automatic injury waiting to happen.

You putting that on a young man’s career is weird. “Wemby will get hurt”. That’s sad you should be ashamed dude. Even if it’s true why are you putting that out about a 19 year old? Around draft time which is the biggest time in his life. Just weird

all the time i was hearing about this amazing new player, i didn't realise he was *seven feet five* ... people seem to be easily impressed by height, but the megastars tend to top out around seven two. Yao Ming seems to be the exception at seven six, but then he was plagued by injuries, as were many of the super talls. Eaton had a pretty good career, but not exactly a household name. i hope he does great, but it's a size where the draft day excitement tends to fade

@@markyacoubian1911 😂😂 he’s gonna be just fine. He’s not going to risk playing on a slight strain while they’re in last place. So yes he’s out for a couple games more so because of their record/standing compared to the severity of the injury. It’s precautionary. So no he’s still not technically injured, just sore. Any other questions?

He moves and is built like a young Kareem Abdul Jabbar who avoided major injuries and played 20 years. Him moving fluidly should avoid him the fate of Yao Ming or Shawn Bradley or Ralph Sampson but I think his choice of footwear will be a factor. Modern sneakers aren't always better than the old sneakers without much heal cushion that forced you to run correctly. If he's lucky he won't blow a knee out but they can fix tendons but the knees will still deteriorate by the time he's 30 and he'll have to change his game and do less guard stuff and just be a trailer shooter and low post guy but he can still be real good at that because he's so big and has a great touch. If you look at a young Kareem move around it's totally different than him in the mid 80's when he just relied on his height and the sky hook but was still really good up until around 37 or 38 with the diminished mobility until his last 3 seasons where he was a shell of himself but pretty much every basketball player is retired when they are 39-41.

Don't forget Jabar is from a whole different time period where the people being produced were made out of different materials and different toughness we see that today or these young people or just paper thin and the football players and basketball players of the '50s '60s '70s and '80s with toughest nails so I wouldn't expect him to even be close to Jabbar unfortunately none of these players have done the sensible thing and developed a sky hook everybody's so busy you worrying about one extreme or the other dunking for Michael Jordan popularity or shooting threes for Steph Curry popularity rather than playing to their own game same thing with LeBron if he had developed a post game early in his career with coaching he probably would have averaged 40 points a game he did great but he could have done even better instead of trying to imitate Jordan

You're underestimating the fibula massively. Its the myofascial keybone of the lower body in osteopathy. Its connected to nearly every foot bone, the subtalar and talocrural, the IOM, the knee ligaments, muscles of the thigh and it band, the pelvis, the coxofem and the sacrum. If your getting stress fractures in the fibula, there is a serious issue with the way your distributing force, and it will drastically increase your risk of knee, ankle, foot, hip, pelvis, sacrum, and low back injury.

I Think he won't be as injury prone as Porzingis, but also he won't be as healthy as Olajuwon or Jabbar. He would definately face injuries but with excercises, sport science and a bit of management in minutes by the Spurs, he will do just fine.
