By law in 27 states, you aren't allowed to sell and separate puppies from their mom until they are around 8 weeks old. We can't even extend the same compassion to humans and mandate maternity leave.
Except, according to this story, the lady WAS on maternity leave! So even though she had it, she came in. I honestly think this story is fake, but mandating maternity leave wouldn't have solved this issue.
@@commentinglife6175 You're missing the point of my statement. In the US, there are no laws giving rights for mothers to have maternity leave. Those that do get it aren't guaranteed paid leave, meaning only those wealthy enough have the luxury of staying home with their newborns.
We have no idea why this mother decided to come in. Maybe she really did want to help her workplace team. Maybe she was afraid of the repercussions had she not. This was from managements perspective. Corporate actively promoting that behavior on LinkedIn is gross. Give the women a raise and a vacation with her newborn if they truly appreciate her work.

I don't get your line of reasoning. Women entering the workforce didn't lower wages. Workers are more productive than ever given the tool and skillsets we possess Corporations took more of the profits and decided not to pay their employees livable wages. Plain and simple.
Women should have the choice of wether or not they stay home full time with their children. Being reliant on one person is how women who are widowed or are abandoned by their husbands become destitute without a penny to their name and no valuable skillsets to support themselves. And if they were in toxic relationships, they were left with a horrible choice of leaving to the the same fate or enduring years of abuse. It wasn't sunshine and rainbows back in the "the good old days" because people stayed together more frequently. Women simply had no options. So yeah, I'll take equal rights thank you very much.
Why would you demand better wages for one sex and not the other. Demand better wages period. Blaming women because you can't step up and be a primary breadwinner anymore just exposes how insecure your ego really is.

Yup. But what makes it even worse is that it probably never happened. Did this guy really see a two-day mother, on Mother's Day, coming in to work despite being on maternity leave? Unlikely. But his brain is so warped that he would make up a story like this is advocate the hustle culture.

As the father of a six month old, I find this appalling and disgusting. During the first six months, the essential character of the person is formed. Depending on how the parents tend to the needs of the infant, the person will either form a deep sense of security or insecurity. After TWO DAYS, a baby needs undivided attention and mother needs rest and recovery. The role of the father is to make sure mom and baby have everything they need so that the bonding and care stage goes uninterrupted. The fact that she was there at all means that either management called and guilted her about taking time from herself and her children or she's so broke from her BS job, she had to work to afford life at all.

As someone on the other side of this kind of situation, it took a shit ton of therapy to realize exactly how my parents (specifically my mother's) behavior affected me. I've always been misanthropic and distrustful. I've found it difficult to do things that are just assumed in society, things like seeking mentorship, networking, even making friends. The way you phrased it, a feeling of security or insecurity is perfect. I can't really remember the last time I've felt "safe" around another person. Even romantic partners, I have a constant fear that if I do something wrong, if I forget to do the dishes or if the laundry is still damp, that she'll leave.
My therapist put it to me like this: "If a child cries out in the middle of the night and there's no one there, what do you think they'll learn? The world is a cold place, and no one will ever really care."
The behavior of parents to their children does really matter. It forms your fundamental beliefs about the nature of the world. If the parents, the people who are supposed to love you unconditionally, aren't there to do that, someone else will teach you how the world works. I'm not sure how much of it is true or just my own biases, but I know that I feel like the world is filled with evil fucking snakes who will stab you in the back just to laugh while you bleed. I still feel like the average person is a sadistic, evil creature who will do harm just for the fun of it, as long as they can get away with it. There are spots of light, but the darkness and pure cruelty are overwhelming. If I ever have kids, I'd do *anything* to keep them from seeing the world the way I do.

We don't know his dynamic with his wife. I LOVE fast food from childhood because it's the food I ate during some of the times that made me happy growing up. Childhood wasn't great for me; meh. So fast food is more than just food for me. Maybe his wife just wanted salty food like that for one reason or another. :shrug: We'll never know.

The saddest thing is that she's most likely there not by choice.
The US doesn't have paid maternity leave.
At best she needed money badly, at worst it's a "come, or you're fired" situation.
At the very worst, she has an abusive husband at home, or lives in her car with her children.
As the mom of two littles I can't tell you how mad this makes me. A baby who is two days old NEEDS their mother. A woman who is two days postpartum NEEDS to rest and recover and bond with the baby. It is inhumane and cruel to put them in that situation, and insane of him to have such little empathy.

What new parent has time for "doom scrolling and complaining"? I was nursing, changing diapers, eating and sleeping. In that order. The sleep often never really happened much before nursing/changing time again.
Well, it's obvious that, despite having those 3 kids, not only was he not at all involved in their care postpartum, but he didn't even spare a thought to how things might be going at home. Probably hired some help and stayed the hell away with complete disinterest.
I came here to say the same. I could hardly keep a thought in my head from lack of sleep and being overwhelmed. Plus, there's postpartum pain, fluids, & breast feeding. I've done a lot. But, nothing was as challenging as taking care of a newborn.
Somehow becoming a corporate wage slave is liberation. When two adults went to work they doubled the hours but the wages the same or less.

True story. Back in my IT career, many years ago, my boss told me that one of my colleagues wasn't acting appropriately for her job (something like that). My colleague had just returned from maternity leave. Well, my boss and my colleague were both women, and I suggested to my boss that my colleague might have post-partum depression. My boss was dumfounded and I think a bit ashamed that she hadn't thought of that. That defused the situation. They were both good people. Has this era past?
No, because a lot of modern girl boss don't have children, so they don't know how hormones affect women.
I don’t have a child yet but I do know how hormones work and what it does to women. I always pamper my friends who are new moms.
Always check on them, help as much as I can and get them gifts for them, because I know they will get a lot of presents for the baby.
One of my friends was a first time mom. I researched what do new moms need and got her some things for the hospital and for after the birth. I knew she prepared things for the baby but not for herself.

There is an article in CNN from November 2023 titled "US infant mortality rate rises for first time in more than 20 years" a quote of the article says:
“We know that for people who live in or near poverty and for certain racial and ethnic groups there are significant challenges with getting access to a doctor or getting treatments,” Chung wrote. “This can lead to moms and babies showing up for care when they are sicker and more likely have serious outcomes, even death.”
Why I'm mentioning this you ask? Well, that 2 days-old newborn mentioned in the post had a high probability of increasing that statistic for this year...
My wife gave birth to our second child last week. It takes a toll on a human body. I presume that in the past woman gave birth and came back to fields. We also had child labor and idiotic wars with Generals buying their position with money. All gone, thank God.

25 year old male, got into the insurance industry as a receptionist type call handler then promoted/licensed health insurance broker 6 months later in 2022.
Navigating this corporate landscape is so bananas.
Quotas are absolutely an outdated metric for evaluating productivity in such a heavily regulated industry.
Ive been able to grow and learn a lot, build a good resume and have finally started living my life how i want. Quitting drinking and getting a dog was the smartest thing i could do at this stage - im planning on getting google certifications so i can seek more opportunities and maybe work in the cannabis industry as a manager or something. Wrote this for anyone else in my position, youre not alone and youre not crazy - just keep your head up and mind strong cause this world is wild.
This is terrible on so many levels. I bet she was asked to come in first and only could do so if she brought her small children. Insanity.
That's what makes me think this story is fake. I can easily imagine the scumbag who would ask someone to come in, but in what universe would that very same person say, "Oh yeah - you can definitely bring your kids in to work with you"? Something doesn't add up.

@@kellitrevino650 Yeah, very true. I know have seen it at some restaurants around me too, but in that case, I'm pretty sure they were the owners kids. (Pretty sure one of my favorite Chinese restaurants got shut down when I was in college cause they let bringing their elementary school-aged kids into the back of the restaurant.) However, I will also claim (with no evidence whatsoever but this is UA-cam so I can do that) that the restaurants you and I are thinking about are probably a little more understanding of family. In other words, while they WOULD allow kids to come with the parent, I doubt they would force this particular woman to come in. (From the limited sample I've seen, just seems unlikely to me.) Again, no evidence, but we are also taking this guy's word for the accuracy of his experience so...
Two days after giving birth, I can tell you the only grit and determination I have is the grit and determination to examine my inner eyelids. If there was such a mother coming in two days after giving birth, she wasn't thinking about her grit. She was thinking about how not to lose her job because she had those two sweet little things to support. It's sad that anyone would ever have to--or want to--go into work with a two-day old. Either way I find it equally sad.
Who's the manager who thought having crying kids on staff is a good look? Like could they not find literally anyone else?
Obviously this is caused by a lack of pay issue, and people willing to bend over that far are hard to come by, so use em while they can still walk, I guess?

I want people and especially people that call themselves Christian to see the slavery programming of “you must sacrifice to be good”. Jesus never ever said he was ok with dying for all future humanity. It’s a good program if you don’t want to be blamed for killing him.
It's called survival. She's not doing it for the team or for the company. She's doing it to feed her children, keep them clothed and sheltered. Joshua's right - if they had admired her so much they could have given her their card and told her to call them the next day for a better paying and hourly position.
I’m a contractor and gave birth on a Friday. Was logged on (WFH) the following Monday. No maternity leave since I’m not a perm employee, and I think it led to my severe postpartum depression. When I had my daughter in February, I took a whopping 2 weeks of unpaid leave. It hurts so much I hate thinking about it. Luckily I’m able to watch them during my job. But still. Wish I didn’t have to do it, but bills still need to be paid.
I think it's really healthy that people are fighting back against these work life balance issues. Businesses don't care about you!
You shouldn't bring a newborn to work or to a crowded place. They're immune systems aren't ready for that yet.

You'd have to believe that her newborn was discharged at the same time she was, and that she ran directly home, then directly to the restaurant ON MOTHERS DAY. Its absurd. No business fucks that hard with maternity leave. If true, that business would have been fined instantly in pretty much any state in the union. And no fast food business is going to allow a toddler and newborn in their kitchen area. They would be shut down, cancelled, and the story would have been in every news outlet. Clearly, the story was fabricated by the "CEO."

First of all, we don't know this person's situation. Not everyone who works gets to take advantage of work benefits. Often times, certain qualifications have to be met. We don't know if this person is working part time or full time, we don't know how long they've worked there, and we don't know how much money they'd get even IF they qualified. These policies typically only give a certain percentage of the workers average weekly wage when they're off. Not to mention, the checks that come in for this don't follow the actual pay period of the workplace. Meaning, you would have to wait longer to get your money than you would if you just worked regularly.
Let's assume this woman DID qualify. What if that wasn't enough to cover her expenses? What if she actually needed the money as soon as possible? Do you even care? Or are you so hell bent on hating employers that you can't logically think of any other scenario besides the one you create in your head? Stop being so narrow-minded and consider the nuances of a situation before you judge people.

In the 70s and 80s we had this overly cautious mentality that a newborn infant shouldn't be taken out in public in a stroller for six weeks or more.
Today doctors have generally agreed that this is not necessary for the baby's health or security... but for the sake of all the asshole bosses in the world I think we should keep it going.
I would still follow staying out of the general public as much as possible with a newborn. This story is next level.
