Unboxing and review: Anson Belt with a custom patina surprise!

- A while back I did a few custom Anson Belt patinas for a client. When he posted to Instagram Anson Belt saw the post and was impressed with the work and reached out to me. I told them I was interested in doing a review and some custom work on their belts and they gladly sent a package of buckles and straps to play with. If I start the work week without discolored fingertips then I just didn't have a fun weekend LOL. Even with gloves I manage to get a little dyed.
That patina came out real nice‼️ I love my belts, and I have not noticed any pull of the dye on my pants... They match my shoes perfectly‼️ I would suggest getting a electric buffer if you're doing a lot of belts... 😉😁
perfect! I have a number of patina belts and have had dye rub off only once and that was a long time ago. I think I have it sorted out to avoid that now. No electric buffers for me though. Gotta get those hands dirty!
Im a fan of the Anson belt. I am fairly skinny and it is pretty hard to find a belt that actually fits me. The ratchet system really helps with this. I just wish they had more formal belts.
I'm working on that. Trying to see if I can mass produce some patina belts with their system. We shall see.

What do you think about the leather quality? To me those belts look the the 5 dollar belts you can buy on Aliexpress. A thin layer of split leather on top with some trash paper filling. It look wrinkled when you straightened it at 2:48
A fair question. I think the quality of the buckles outshines the straps for sure. The straps are split leather with filling as you said, but I think their cost reflects that too. You are paying for the buckle and the technology I think. I have worn a few of them multiple times and have not had an issue with serious creasing or wrinkling but of course they will wrinkle some as all leather does. I think the finish on them looks a little flat but they patina just fine and look great. If they last long enough I will be totally satisfied. They have already outlasted my $12 made in china belts.
@@mbshoedoc Alright, I had issues more with the buckles than the belt, as the click in mechanism did not work anymore. Not so funny when your belt gets loose during the day ^^
I am so sick of bad quality leather belts, I usually go with Boss belts now for daily use and sometimes treat myself with a Ferragamo belt, even the Saffiano leather from them is extremely high quality and does not fade on the edges like it tends to happen with Prada.
@@Stoeff1987 so you already have an Anson belt but the buckle mechanism went out? My go to is Allen Edmonds. Good quality leather and able to be patinaed too. Have a Meermin and a Magnanni that I like as well. No Prada but never been impressed with anything from them I've seen. Ferragamo is hit or miss on the shoes I've seen but never tried belts.
@@mbshoedoc No just some belts I tried from Aliexpress and Amazon out of curiosity but I think they more or less come from the same factory as even the straps look similar. I started going for quality instead of quantity, found some "like new" belts on ebay etc from Loro Piana, Fendi, etc mucht more happy now.
I would not even have the audacity to ask an artist like you to do a patina like in the video on a cheap split leather belt.
@@Stoeff1987 I have had more Anson belt for a few years and have not had those issues you described. The ratchet system still works fine and the leather isnt wrinkled or creased
