I had been trying to find a video like this for weeks, and then today your video popped up in my recommended. Glad I was able to find it, this helped me a ton!
One thing that we do in the aviation maintenance industry is stagger the locations of butt crimp connections, so that they are not next to each other in the wire harness. Putting them all next to each other results in over-wide lumps in your harness, which can cause problems.
I do this to spliced connections, I just thought common sense, not an engineer here. I guess I have some design background by being curious but my strength is in Quality.
So many people complain that butt connectors and scotch locks are a poor way to join the wire's, but I am here to tell you that I've not had one problem using these two methods. Using the correct tool for crimping is the trick to doing a professional job. Stop buying cheap tools is another reason why some wire connections fail. I had an Alpine head unit for 15years in a truck using scoth-locs, not a single problem with wiring connections. Yes you can solder the wire's but just takes longer to do the job.
Can I ask a question about the yellow and red cables if the red is not connected to the ignition and there both onto a live Would this make the battery 🪫 go flat if the vehicle is not used for like a month Thanks for the video by the way 👍

On the amp wire, why is it joined to the factory harness instead of hanging loose. Isn’t the power coming out of the Head unit? If so where would it be going to in the factory harness? An antenna maybe? Thanks enjoyed it much.
First of all I want to say thank you for showing how to do that. I wish you would have shown the whole thing one by one. Mark Nichols Thanks for all the great videos. I am about to start on a radio upgrade on my 2001 Ford Excursion XLT and have watched your related videos. However, the recommended Metra 70-1771 harness has only a single 16 pin plug. The 2001 excursion has a second plug and wiring harness which plugs into a port on the back of the factory radio identified as an amp but actually runs to the back of a center console rear speaker controller. I believe if this is not connected, the rear 4 speakers will not function. Please advise as to a solution and/or can you identify the correct Metra harness. I have looked at their website but they identify only the 70-1771 part number.
I am doing something similar myself but instead of changing the plug onto the back of the radio i will be making an adapter from the original wiring harness plug to the cars later counterpart wiring harness plug ( gives who ever owns the car more radio fitting options)
I think I did it mostly right with my car (2007 Pontiac Vibe). There are some wires though that are questionable: blue to blue/white, orange to orange/white, and purple to pink purple/white. I am questionable about those wires. Will it do anything funky to the radio since they weren't exactly alike? Other than that, I am pretty sure I did it right the best I can. If not, then I will just need to get a different kind of stereo wire for my vehicle.

Question: when using a harness adapter all that is needed is to connect the correct colors with the adapter that came with the radio/cd player right, what would be the reason to bypass the adapter harness, and go directly to main harness.???????
I’m not sure way you would consider cutting into the factory harness when so many adapters are available. I would NEVER recommend not using an adapter.
@@ProvoBeastAudio I ask because a friend of mine bypassed a few wires on the harness adapter, my mouth dropped open, because I assumed all he had to do was connect the correct colors(with the adapter and the harness that came with the radio), but so far the radio/cd player works fine, I'm just shocked that he bypassed the adapter harness....
I cant get power to my cars factory amplifier.. I know its blue/white but no matter where I connect it I get no sound... the unit works,it gets power and seems to be working .. but no sound then amp fault comes up on the display screen.. what else can I try
Ok I am really hoping that you can help me out with something. The adaptor that I am using has a blue/white wire which is labeled REM OUT. The radio harness has a blue wire. I saw that you connected the blue/white wire to the blue wire but they both run to the micro bypass. If I don’t need a micro bypass do I simply wire the two together or do I cap them off and not use either of them?
The blue and white is your amplifier if you have one... If not you can ignore it if you have one it'll need a 12 v connection, I'm working on the same issue just sharing what I've learned so far
Yes blue white to blue white as it will trigger your factory amp to operate when the radio is on. Without it, you might not get any sound. We also used that blue white for the microbypass (for pioneer and alpines).

Hey I have a question. My friend let me have 2 different head units but they don’t have their wiring harnesses. Does that mean they are useless like that or can I buy just the harness itself? One is a pioneer and the other is JVC and they are both single din
You can get them through eBay, last year, I bought a harness for a pioneer mvh-21bt that I’ve gotten for free that was missing it’s harness and it worked great without a problem. What are the model numbers to the Jvc and pioneer radios? I can probably find the harnesses for each unit and can link them here
@@princealideababwa1485 no problem, most non original harnesses are junk, so finding original brand harness is difficult to find, but you’ll be lucky if you even find original plugs on eBay or Amazon. The harness to the Pioneer MVH-21BT I had wasn’t Pioneer original, it was a knock off brand & it worked perfectly good for me. If you’re still in search of the harness’s for the Jvc or pioneer, I would recommend reaching out to each company and see if they have one harness in stock, im sure they’ll do. Hope this helps!
@@ernie0699 you know, surprisingly enough both the head units themselves were junk. Sorry that’s what I meant but I ended up getting a $20 Dual brand Walmart head unit and that thing sounds really good. It’s has Bluetooth and all that and I was able to hook my subwoofer up to it and it sounds great. Pretty good deal honestly
They should. Which colors don't match? Sometimes colors are not exact, so match what wires are labeled on the harness and what the radio identifies them to be.
The wiring kit you buy is to connect the wires of new head unit to your factory connection! Factory plug>vehicle specific wiring kit>aftermarket head unit
@keegan Long If you mean avoid buying the $10 adaptor that makes it plug and play, then you would be hardwiring it into the car and can’t just remove the radio for service

My stock stereo had 3 plugs. One for the antenna, one that plugged into my connecter, and a smaller one that I don't know what to do with. Please help
probably on star or xm
Third plug might be either Sirius, Factory amp, or probably onstar if you’re vehicle is a GM product (chevy, gmc, buick, etc)
In my radio doesn't work the steering wheel control. My radio is 7010B model and car is Hyundai i30 2009, Could I get ant information please. I will be really appreciated. Thanks
You need to purchase a control unit for retaining steering wheel function
Will do.
I can probably find the harnesses for each unit and can link them here
You can also get Bluetooth microphones for each of them too if they’re missing & need them as well on eBay
@@ernie0699 ah I figured it out, both of them were junk but I was able to return the harnesses to Amazon
Where your shop I bring my car in ?
We are in Utah.
What wires do we need
what if colors don't match
They should. Which colors don't match? Sometimes colors are not exact, so match what wires are labeled on the harness and what the radio identifies them to be.
Like i have pink color in my harness..doesn't match
Where did he find the most Financial success basketball or Media?
You kind of sound like David Wallace from The Office
thank you
so stupid question I buy one connection part and the other comes with a headunit?
You got it.
Awesome
Saaaay whaaaat?!? You got a promo code to my fave online store? Sub'd!
I want to hey one
I need one for an 82 amc eagle hahaha
no purple wires now what
we got it all 4 speakers
There’s extra wires
