For being one of the most famous front men of all time, he's still pretty down to earth. He's a really dedicated musician. He's not perfect and he's made some mistakes but you can say that about anybody, and the fact that he's not perfect and doesn't claim to be makes me like him even more. I love his music but I like him just as much as a person.
He's got his issues but he's my guitar hero and he is a cool dude

Layne Staley was struggling with addiction, and even though Hetfield was a victim of that and should show empathy towards Layne, he mocked him in front of a huge audience. The guy is complete scum. Plus his riffs are shit. The last good Hetfield riff was Creeping Death. Blackened was Jason's, which is the last good Metallica song
I love Metallica and I have musical respect for what they've achieved, but in saying that, James and Lars are really just big kids and aren't what I would call "men". His dummy spits are legendary and whilst he's definitely grown, from plenty of stories you can tell he's still got a short fuse and is a bit of a prick regularly.
All I can say is Hetfield is absolutely one of the most talented artists in Metal History and I had to cut this video short to and go listen to some Metallica!

In 2018 it was revealed that James was a few minutes late feeding one of his dogs. In an interview with Loudwire, James' dog "Snooky" said she couldn't believe the Metallica frontman would disrespect her like that. She has not spoken to James since the incident, but dogs do not speak so it is impossible to know if this lone incident is responsible for Snooky's grudge against Mr. Hetfield.

I personally met James and Lars at a bar in Soho after the Black Album concert at Madison Square Garden. He was super cool and layer back. He actually bought a round drinks for everyone in the bar. Lars on the other hand is a different story. Metallica is one of the best Metal bands ever!

Yeah I've heard stories of James defending Lars etc. if anyone in the band is "difficult" it's gotta be Lars. All that said, they are one of the few bands that basically the same as when they started. If Cliff hadn't died, mustaine would probably be the only ex member.
Kirk and Lars seem stuck up to the extreme. Kirk is a ultra woke leftist. James like to virtue signal. Metallica claims to be about human rights, but is taking Saudi royal money. Great band, not so great people. They should keep their mouth shut about politics or how we working people should live.
The fact that James and Lars had fights and still stayed together makes me respect and admire them even more. That's how it is in a family, you stay together no matter what.

@@fordwheeler I went to that tour 92 in the Superdome. Because of the riot they didn't sell alcohol. Faith Nomore opened then Metallica with James with a cast on his arm. Metallica finished at 10:00. GNR didn't take the stage until 1:15 people were pissed.Then Axle bad mouthed the crowd for not being pumped up. No beer and having to wait 3 and half hours for GNR to take the stage. Asshole.

The *real* story is: James's behavior with alcohol on the road continued at home, then his wife kicked him out. That made him so scared of losing his family, that he decided to get help, and rightfully so.

James seems to be a perfectionist when it comes to the music and in addition to being an artist, he's also a business man who doesn't tolerate any nonsense when it comes to the band's work. He's similar to that boss that the employees can't stand, but gets the job done. I'm amazed that he's still cranking out solid hard driving music whether you think Metallica sold out or not. I think it's just the band growing and maturing. Isn't that what the Beatles did, growing, experimenting, going in new directions. i wouldn't be a fan if they were like Nickleback with songs that all sound the same; I admire Metallica's range and scope. I find it amazing that after 40 years, they're still cranking out great music on every work and I don't care who likes him or who doesn't like him as long as I like the music. James and even Lars have taken a page out of Ricky Nelson's Garden Party - ya can't please everyone so ya gotta please yourself. Love the Lux Aeterna, have 72 Seasons on preorder and I'm counting the days until April. I remember the Metallica tour that AIC had to bail on. They came on an hour later than expected and very clearly mocked "Man-in-a-box" as a song Jason had just written shortly beforehand. To say I was displeased is an understatement. I had already seen them a few times, but the friend I was with had not. I stayed for a few songs for his sake but convinced him we should leave early. I was ready to go. That was the last Metallica show I attended.

Wow. I grew up in a rap cultured environment, but I was the odd ball that listened to rock and alternative along with rap and R and B. I only seen rappers and R and B artist beef when I was coming up in the 90s. I had no idea that rockers beefed like rappers. This is so delicious, how could it be not fattening! There was that Slash and Rose fall out, but other than that, didn't really see rockers get down like that.
I think this is confusing “can’t stand James Hetfield” with passionate disagreement. Some of them definitely hate Hetfield, but I sincerely doubt Lars would have been playing with him for 40 years if he hated him. I’ve been in and/or worked with bands where my contempt for one of the members overwhelmed my professionalism and made collaboration impossible.
I listened to a very long interview with James interviewing Bruce Dickenson. Not sure what year it was but there was plenty of mutual respect shown both ways.

Strange but I was never a fan in the 80's or 90's, I started coming around in the late 2000's and now I think they are awesome. I don't mind any of the guys, I think they are cool and interesting people. I really like Kirk and I can relate to his love of horror and his guitar playing is beyond great, its epic. Lars is also a fantastic drummer and I think he's the glue of the band. James is a Metal icon, and that isn't easy to accomplish, he's a complicated human and when you are that intensly creative you are going to rub people wrong but don't take it personal, its part of the creative process when you are the leader of the enterprise. Robert is so damn good at bass and he is very likeable. Thats my 4 cents.
I agree that Kirk is an epic guitarist, I have been a fan of Metallica for years and got to see a live show in Atlanta probably 15 to 20 years ago , was mesmerized by the sound of this band and in particular Kirks guitar playing .Even today at 61 yrs.old they still remain my favorite metal band. I hope they tour for 20 more years so more rockers get to enjoy their live shows.👍😳🤗

Never heard Dave Mustaine actually disparage Hetfield. Lots of hate for Lars. The quote you show is not hate, but demonstrably true. Dave was the frontman (not singer, but crowd hyper) for Metallica in the early days. Jamez was shy and wanted to only sing. And when they met, Dave was already an accomplished guitarist while Jamez was not yet the right hand of God he later became. This is just an accurate description of Metallica in the Dave years.
I'm going to have to side with James on every one of these feuds. But the Lars and James fighting to me is like two brother having a fight, they will fight each other but will always have each other's back

It seems a lot of guys who were hated when they were young grew up and got some sense and now they seem to be decent people. Hetfield keeps bees! Very thoughtful thing to do in these times. There's even a post-fallout now old guys who respect each other video somewhere where Dave Mustaine is praising Hetfield as being one of the all time great rythym guitarist/vocalists along with himself:).

You know when I first saw this video pop up I thought to myself “how can someone not like this guy?” And then after i seeing everyone mentioned I thought “ahhh of course these are the people”
I like Metallica's music and have learned to play several of their songs. I arranged a Mettalica medley in my old bands setlist and people loved it. That said my biggest problem with you them is how self absorbed they seem to be, especially Lars. I saw the 92 tour and it was awesome. I ran into a convoy of limos the night before the show and Slash rolled down and the window . To my surprise Slash and Duff was talking to me out the window and they were very cool to me . I don't think James or Lars would've done that. Anyway these rock feuds are kind of childish if you ask me. I'm not putting anyone down but stating how I feel.

One of the most greatest songs from Metallica is no leaf Clover. The arrangement with the orchestra is incredible. Metallica is by far one of the greatest rock bands metal bands ever having them sing them in concert only proves that. Camaraderie between the members are paramount and the music is incredible and the lyrics are incredible.

If anyone hates James Hetfield it is merely because they don't understand someone who is Determined - Focused - Passionate - Dedicated - A true Icon - Flawed like the rest of us. They likeley let their emotions dictate their existence. This man is a true Icon in all the sense. He builds automobiles - Owns bees - Raises a family - Owns businesses and is a musical god! He has struggled with addiction - Death - Personal struggles - Burns - and many other things that many people go through and don't have the fight to persevere. James Hetfield does. If that makes him a jerk then so be it... He sells out stadiums across the globe and has been for over 40 years.

I think there needs to be some fact checking here. How I understand it, Jason did not want to take a year off to work on Echo Brain, he wanted that time off to heal. He was burned out and he had all those issues with his shoulders, surgeries, etc. and he was addicted to pain killers. He was only going to work on Echo Brain outside of what Metallica was doing as they are known for taking long breaks anyway.

I don't love him but I do love OLD Metallica.I love old Megadeth too...I have my dislikes for sure concerning the death of the greatest thrash band ever...Metallica.They lost me when they came out with black album...yes Im one of them.lol.I also CANNOT stand how Mustaine has found God to such a degree that he refuses to play with certain bands either...just stupid!On a side note both of these bands have been a HUGE part of my life and I hope they keep goin for a long time.James looks broken emotionally and Dave had a close call with cancer.In the end I wish no harm on two people that made such an impact in my life at such a young age.🤘🤘

This is guy a music icon and an historic character, no one can´t deny that, but as a person, and based on all the things that are known, he has never being an easy person. I love the band, their music, the attitude on stage the energy, but i have no doubts that he is not a "very nice" person.
