Dave Mustaine is the definition of persistence. Everything this guy has been through, both self inflicted and happenstance, he could have at any time and no one could have blamed him. He kept going and whether you like him or hate him, you have to respect him. He's been the bad guy when he needs to be and the good guy when he needs to be. He's not just a metal legend. He's an inspiration as a person.
So many bands I was part of got ripped apart by drugs or alcohol. The first drummer I ever jammed with passed away far too soon. Too many people did. Even my fathers band. I remember being so angry at his death. That was around the time I started listening to metal music and first heard Megadeth. I got to see them play a show with Motorhead. That music got me through some rough times.
Sex drugs & Rock n roll is a wild way of life Band lifestyles are a carousel of chasing dragons and dreams they're like a nascar track some make it to the finish line and some crash and burn. glad you made it out and if you were lucky and brave enough to ever be in a band or play music w other players in you're life, I'd say I salute you and I understand The energy and excitement that can be attained thru playing in a rock n roll band is something very unique and difficult to contain
@@smallestcharles I loved how different The Hu was compared to the others. I thought my student was messing with me when he described their music 😂. Hu Hu Hu Hu!
Yeah to the old stuff. The new stuff is as crappy as all Metallica stuff after load and reload too. So I don’t watch these bands anymore I listen to their old but gold albums but I don’t watch them doing their sad show over and over again trying to copy themselves at their peak point. You gotta stop where you are at peak as an artist the rest will be anyway forgotten. Waited time and effort in my opinion with these two bands at least. There are musicians and artists that are able to grow. These two aren’t.
@@zemlidrakona2915 I get nothing out of their newer stuff. Just hasn’t got any real soul and innovation to me anymore or even atmosphere. I again and again check upon their new albums but the fire is not really there for me. Good if you enjoy it that’s fine. Just not able to as it seems myself and I don’t get it as there are enough young talented musicians out there we hear nothing off mainly because labels and managements try to stick with the 100th episode of Metallica or whatever. Drained out in my opinion and bad that a and r are not scouting like they did back then with bands to find new exciting stuff but instead serve us these bad Hollywood Botox remakes still. Music business isn’t what it was anymore obviously. I am old and times were better back then in the 80ties 😅
Metal God? He has some cult or sth? Really? Simple man, who plays the guitar, and ok... sings. Nothing less, nothing more. Musicians are people, like others.
@@50StichesSteel Just goes to show technical chops rarely trumps the ability to consistently write listenable songs. Don't get me wrong, I like most of what both bands have produced, but it makes sense why Metallica has sold way more.
Dave does not brag as a lifelong fan since the '80s I can tell you he has put his self through college with his earnings to say the least of his accomplishments
I met Dave Mustaine once. I spoke to him for quite awhile. He talked a little about Metallica, what happened with his arm, guitars. The man is a VERY INTELLIGENT and PHILOSOPHICAL person. It was an ABSOLUTE PLEASURE to meet him
@@boxtimenosabenada4455 I met him in 2010, in Fort Wayne Indiana, at Starbucks on the corner of Jefferson Blvd and Fairfield. That's where I met him. And I don't really appreciate your accusatory tone in your response, like Im lying or something. I really don't care if you believe me or not. Your approval is not wanted or needed.
It's clear he's intelligent just by the complexity of his music. This is not to mention the lyrics: "Holy Wars" comes to mind as an example of extraordinarily sophisticated statement on politics and religion.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dave while standing in line at a restaurant. He was so down to earth and a genuinely nice guy....He talked to me and my husband for about 10 minutes while we were waiting for our tables and it was one of the coolest celebrity experiences I have had.
Dave Mustaine is so level headed. You can tell it comes from experience. He's calm and not naive about it all. He's been through it and learned the right lessons. I'm sure hard lessons.
Yall are obsessed with making life some hard chore. To the point you instill it on others by physically beating them even. I feel even this is one of the mental beatings. Not that when someone is whining for attention you shouldn't be quick to find a cute accepted quote to shut them down. But that person; specially if it's a f e m may turn to the beatings if you try to shut them down when they are screaming for more meth
How the fuck do you know.....? Rubbish. You are a moron. And Dave, I listed to his garbage music and never learned a thing. Garbage. You and him have been clown shoed. BoBo
Dave has done a complete 180-degree of an attitude shift since I worked around him briefly almost 15-years ago. Completely different guy…and Megadeath STILL sounds amazing live! Hats off to you Mr. Mustaine.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dave at his home while I was a service tech, they spelled his name wrong on the ticket so I had no idea until he opened the door. Great guy, cool person and totally real. He was humble and personal, best day ever! I'm a forever fan 🤟
As a service technician, this is cool. All I’ve ever had was politicians, local celebrities and one girl who claimed to be an influencer, but when I googled her, I discovered that she was a different kind of “influencer”. 😬 But Dave!
@Jonathan Williams Much respect to you for not approaching Dave. Being in LA area at times you will see some celebrities at times and not once did I interfere with them just enjoying their day. They are no different than us when they are out in public just being human. Wish more people would have this attitude.
This guy was down and out many times in his life, but he didnt let that stop his dreams ...he almost died for 19 minutes, he lost control of his playing arm due to a jammed nerve, got cancer....he kicked each and everyone one of those road blocks in the ass and gave them the finger while he came up with riff after riff....greatest Metal riff machine ever...MEGADETH !
First James Hetfield back in 2016 and now Dave Mustaine!!! I hope he gets more metal singers! Anybody wanna start a petition to get Rob Halford on JRE?
It’s funny I know that they are, but I’ve just never heard James a Dave be referred to as just “singers”. Certainly not Dave 😂 love both their vocals tho. And of course.. the riffs
Holy Crap! Dave Mustaine???? Hands down he's the Gordon Ramsey of Heavy Metal. His dedication to his craft is just mind-blowing. This was a god-tier interview. I see you Joe, you got mad pull man. Rest In Power Gar & Nick, two of the best drummers to ever do it.
Dave Mustaine and Megadeth are what got me into rock and metal in the first place. The cartoon Duck Dodger's did a crossover episode with Dave and Megadeth, which featured the song "Back in the Day". The song changed my little boy life forever, and have been an avid metalhead ever since.
Damn...totally forgot about that. I was WAY too old to be watching that show but I caught it...being a metal fan. I was moving from my comic/cartoon phase to my music fan phase. Perfect timing...I think there was a Brian Wilson appearance in that show too!
I can completely understand what Dave is talking about. I am his age and alcohol was just normal to use for fun. As I got older though, it started to become a problem and I had nobody to tell me I should slow down or help direct me in the right direction. My youngest son is way more aware of drugs and alcohol than I was. Maybe it's because I talked to him openly about my problems and the dangerous situations I put myself in. Sometimes we all need life managers. It is our ego that gets in the way. Great topic!
I grew up with Dave Mustain for a time in Huntington Beach CA. We were young teenagers at the time and I remember going to the apartment he lived in with his mom at the time, we would party a little bit and he would play his guitar or we would go down to the beach to check out the surf and the girls, Dave at that time like a lot of us who hung out together were pretty much left to our own device, so needless to say many times me and Dave and the rest of the people we hung around with found ourselves up to no good, we all had hard attitudes, even the girls that hung around us did as well, to a certain extent we all seem to have a chip on our shoulders even though we had a lot of things and lived in a beautiful city, and when it came to music we were all into hard rock including Dave, but then Dave started getting into punk rock and me and the other guys and girls who hung around together really didn't care for punk rock, it was something new to us and as a result we started to get down on Dave for it and even got physical with him about it, needless to say a lot of us distanced ourselves from him, the things we did hurt him a lot and he became more of a angry guy than he already was and he seemed to carry that with him in his latter years, the last time I talked to him was after his Mothers funeral and at that time he was high on heroin, and don't get me wrong I was on drugs as well at the time, so it was really just a short visit and we said goodbye, Dave has always carried his emotions on his sleeve and not in a crybaby way but in a tell it like it is way, a lot of us were like that as well, so I can see the huge change in the way Dave was when I was growing up with him and how he is now and I can honestly say Dave seems genuinely at peace with himself and who he has become
@@dhiguera13 Well I can share another story with you which is also true, as well as growing up with Dave, I also grew up with and went to School also in Huntington Beach with Mark Kendall of Great White, they were called Dontay Fox before they were called Great White, they used to play at a lot of parties around Huntington Beach, they also played at our Graduation at Wintersburg High School in H.B. they were Great White by then, also a friend of mine was a Roadie for them and his name was Errol Smith like in Arrowsmith true story
My step sister tells stories about Huntington Beach in the 80s. What a wild place! At 14 she was roller skating the pier, selling acid and trying to get close to Tommy Lee from Motley Crew. She loved Iron Maiden. I can see how punk wouldn't be well received back then.
@@Mmmmkaaay OH yes the 80s were the greatest time to be in the prime of your youth as I was, and I like your step Sister was down at the pier, but I was skateboarding and doing acid, H.B. rocked big time back then, party's every weekend without fail, yeah those times will never be duplicated, and as for punk, it was just starting to come into the music scene and there were a lot of battles between punks and rockers
Got to see dave perform the entire holy wars solo about 5 or 6 feet away from me on stage back in April. Legitimately one of the greatest moments of my life.
Im gonna make a burner account and start clicking away on all this. See what happens. Bet they get a boner when they get a "catch". Bet they use tik tok
Dave's a cool guy but keeps dodging simple questions and never answering them. Joe asks if drug use was more prevalent back in the day and Dave goes on talking about how weed is stronger nowadays and other tangents. Joe asks what kind of music Dave and the rest of Metallica listened to, and Dave talks about how they went to a record store in SF without mentioning a single band or music genre and ends up talking about Jello Biafra getting banned from performing in SF, James Hetfield being held hostage at Ron McGovney's house, James living with Dave and his mom, and drunk driving in fog to Huntington Beach.
He has legends on his show every week. I guess if you don’t get out much, aren’t interested in many different things, and have a limited knowledge of the world, rockstars and entertainers might be the only people who seem like legends.
@@scottmasson3039 I think you took this to heart OR way to literally... yups dave is a metal god / Legend... AND.. Joe also interivews legendry people on a regular basis... we're all right on!!!

Dave is such a fascinating person. I have a lot of respect for the things he has overcome and how he has risen above his demons. He is always a good interview. I could listen to him for hours talking about whatever.
Reality is for people like Dave who can`t handle drugs. I met him in a liquor store in East Texas in 2000. The guy with him tried to sell me some heroin. I think he`s a cop.
A lot of respect for the things he has overcome...he's overcome alcoholism and drug g abuse. You have a lot of respect for alcoholism and drug abuse? I think you meant to say something else. I respect him for overcoming those things...less than I do for him having fucked himself in the first place though. He could have been a great guitarists not just a great metal guitarist lmao
hearing about the music industry from the inside is always so interesting.. something about knowing the what goes on behind the scenes of such influential sounds
Sorry BUT they have been talking about this stuff For YEARS, most of these idiot rock stars won't & or Don't learn. most of the new Bands are just as Fked up as the 80's bands were.
I used to think it was interesting, but when you think about it, music industry is about supposedly creative people whose ultimate goal is to become corporate and rich, and ultimately these guys do end up partying with the corporate CEOS, politicians, media people, etc. It's a small world at the top.
Fortunate enough to see Megadeth in the Menza, Friedman era. Dave is an absolute legend of metal and music in General. He has also an inspiration being gracious with former bandmates in Metallica and has helped set an awesome standard for letting bygones be bygones. It's also cool to see people's stories about meeting Dave being so positive.
Fucken lucky you mate! I feel I should have been born earlier. To see Menza, Mustaine and Friedman live would be complete dream for me. They're still killing it today and I really hope I get to see them play - Kiko, James, Dirk - all absolute legends!
Dave is quite possibly the most important person in thrash metal. He taught James Hetfield his riffing style and Kerry King from Slayer played in Megadeth briefly in their very early days, so its hard to believe that Dave's style didn't also influence Kerry in some way...
When I made the decision to do something about my Alcoholism, I bought the audio book of Dave's autobiography. It kept me going through the roughest parts of withdrawal. His insight on the subject of addiction is the best I've ever heard, plus his ability to keep pushing forward no matter what, lit a fire under my ass.
@@joshuagibson2520 Yeah that's why I bought the audio book. I got mine from Audible for about 17 bucks. I did buy multiple copies of the book itself when I was done with all of that. I lent out four copies to some friends who were on the edge of making the decision to get sober. While 1 out of those friends actually went through with it, she's been sober and a Megadeth fan now, so it was a double whammy of positivity.
Just saw Dave and FFDP tonight. Incredible Guitarist and Musician. Amazing story and wisdom. The more early interviews i watch of him I gain more and more respect for Dave Mustaine
Got to meet Dave in 2017 and what a wonderful person, honestly. Been through a true roller coaster ride of a life, and still one of the best guitarists to ever play. Awesome interview.

6 years alcohol free for me. I love Dave. Anyone can get sucked into a life of booze & drugs. Rich or poor, lonely or a rockstar. I love my life now. 💪💪
Congrats! My girlfriend is 3 years off booze and she went from her death bed to being GM of an awesome store. Anyone reading this needs to know that you can turn it around.
I tried so so so hard to get thru to my daughter about her drinking. It has gotten worse recently. She was in an accident last weekend, charged with aggravated DUI, I think her 2 yr old car is totaled, my parents co signed for it. They live in another state. They don't witness the day to day craziness that stems from her being an alcoholic. I tell them, there are details I have held bk just to keep the peace and my step father has a bad heart. But it all came to a head last weekend when she was in the accident. She went from rum to vodka to drinking in the mornings. I grew up with alcoholics. I seen this coming a mile away and tried and tried and tried getting thru to her. She cleans with me for side money, I almost lost jobs due to her, her work ethic is horrendous now. What I realis3d is we are very codependent and I was enabling her. I haven't talked to her in a week, since the crash & jail. Until my daughter is ready for professional help or rehab I can't. It has gotten that bad. I just pray she makes it out alive.
I know Dave Mustaine is known for the drugs and all, but this man has so much experience, so many more important things this guy could teach you than just getting high. Sounds like an epic episode.
Joe wouldn't get off the topic of booze and alchohol and kept congratulating dave on being in Metallica. Instead of talking about music biz, Megadeth, new album etc. Kind of a shit interview.
He always struck me as more than the rocker party guy even when he went thru it. Something about him said 'this is just temporary it's all about the music'
"A peaceful man stands tall." Symphony of destruction. Thanks for all of the inspiration. The spider chord chromatic grip you came up with made me smile deeply, the inventive nature of your playing made me want to do my own thing
I've been a fan since my younger days in the 90s. Great band. My favorite lineup is still a tie between the og lineup and the Marty Friedman and Nick Menza lineup. If u play guitar or ever plan to they are a fun band to learn their songs. Very challenging
I have done the same years ago, right now it's Black Sabbath that I'm really diving into and the journey is very enjoyable. Love Megadeth since I've been a teen.
Dave is one of the most decent people I've ever met. Many years ago when I was a bouncer, I had the opportunity to chat with him for a bit. We actually talked about God. Great experience. 👍
The dude has fired every band member he's had 10 times over. If everyone you ever knew was a lying asshole, maybe it's you not them. And megadeath is shitty, poor man's Metallica. He thinks he's Mozart, while playing 3 power chords.
Big Mustaine fan, this guy is just so interesting and incredible and has definitely left his stamp on heavy metal as arguably the singular most important individual to live as it relates to heavy metal, having started Metallica and Megadeth, with his influence on at least 2 early Metallica albums and of course all of Megadeth. He's simply incredible, intelligent, interesting... long live DM.
I wouldn't necessarilly say he had any true two full Metallica albums , yeah all the songs on demo no life till leather he helped write parts of just about all of them , and all those songs are the same ones that went on to be recorded by Metallica with Kirk Hammett when they recorded their official first full album , all were the same songs from the demo that Dave helped write pars of , with the exception of two songs on Kill Em All that were added during the recording that Dave had zero part in writing. Then regarding his only further influences in Metallicas music , only consists of small basic parts of just two other Metallica songs , which are thw main riff of the song Ride the Lightening , and a riff in the instrumental Call Of Ktulu which of course were both songs on metallicas second recorded full length album Ride The Lightening. I've heard many people including Dave himself cry about claims that Kirk Hammett stole all Daves solos when Kirk with the band recording his solos for Kill Em All , which yeah were part of mostly songs that Dave did help write and did record solos on each of the songs that were on their first Demo "No Life Till Leather" , I have original recordings of both the demo and Kill Em All and when Kirk recorded Kill Em All with Metallica he clearly did not steal any of Dave's solos , every one of them that Kirk recorded were totally different and he didnt steal or copy any of daves solos for the original versions of rhe same songs of Demo "No Life Till Leather", yeah a couple of the solos Kirk did for Kill Em All had a couple brief licks that maybe sound a little similar , but that's bound to happen as when anyone solos to a song you will see similarities because they still have to be in thee same key and likely using parts of the same scales , and then your also coming up with this stuff of all the same genre or style of music , so of course you make hear minor similarities as times if two musicians both write solos for the exact same songs , it's bound to happen because of those three reasons I just gave. So Kirk didn't steal anybodies solos , that's rediculous and it's not the case plain and simple. I'll add my mere opinion here but as a long time guitarist and a musicjan educated in music theory I gorta say Dave and Kirk are both very very talented musicians but honestly Kirk without a doubt has a bit more talent and also displays this talent across a wider variety of noteable influences from different genres of music that can clearly be seen in his work . Both of them together though revolutionized metal music and literally both basically laid the foundation for trash metal , but Metallica had the upper hand on megadeath in that aspect , from 1983-1989 or 1990ish maybe even 92-93, Metallica was undeniably untouchable in the genre of trash metal, and really metal in genre as a broader spectrum of music, and for rhose reasons as well as simply just the fact that I enjoy Metallicas music from their first 5 albums and feel deeply connected to it far far deeper and thoroughly than any of Dave's work with Megadeth, sorry just being completely honest, the fact that Metallica is not just still together making new music but right now also at this moment in the middle of a world tour in where they are playing and sounded better live than they have since 90-92 , they have gone through major rejuvenation and are absolurtely on freaken fire right now in all their live shows , their energy is indescribable , and the fact they are still able to play live every couple days and sound as amazingly well at the average age of about 60 says a ton about about which of the two bands is superior and left a bigger mark in the world of music of historical magnitude rarely seen in these times , and that clearly would be Metallica , sorry Megadeth fans but it is what it is.
Dave Mustaine is such an underrated musician (in terms of critics). Not only is he extremely wise and well spoken, his guitar playing skills are in the top of all popular rock bands.
And he can sing while playing. Singing and playing anything together is very hard. I can manage on punk rock songs with easy riffs. I can’t imagine trying it with music as complex as Dave’s.
Dave's life is so F'ing interesting!!! There is so much to his life and overcoming addiction. Always loved the way he gave Metallica (and I still love Metallica) the middle finger by selling out shows repeatedly ... despite the fact they kicked his ass to the curb. Love how Dave didn't let it destroy him ... I love Megadeth!!! That's a band you have to turn up really loud!
Very True, but if you look at the "Some Kind of Monster" documentary, He did a therapy session with lars and said all the success of Megadeth wasnt enough to help him get over what happened with Metallica, which is sad. they are all in a good place now and all friends so thats nice
I mean they didn't kick him out because he was a bad musician and couldn't sell tickets. He was unhinged and a violent alcoholic. The man you see now is fortunately someone in control of his demons. Megadeth may have turned into a huge success of its own, but objectively the band has been a revolving door of musicians, probably due to Dave's inability to work with people. I'm sure James and Lars would do it all over again, especially knowing Dave's replacement was the calmest personality in the band.
I was a guitarist touring the states in my youth. Megadeth and Dave inspired me to go balls out! Then the same shit caught up to me and I had Dave there to inspire me on my road to sobriety. He really changed my life and my course twice.
I just can't say enough good things about Mustaine. His talent, his ability to self-reflect and correct course. I tell my children that "This is what a good, famous, role- model should look like, the guy is completely grounded and down to earth.
For more than five years Dave spent over $500 a day on drugs, which would equal $1,800.95 in 2023. Heroin, coke, meth, liquor and pills, he was constantly trashed. The new album has two songs dedicated to addiction and Rust is constantly mentioning heroin. I love Megadeth, they're still metal unlike some other related bands, but to call him a good role model is kind of hilarious, and this is coming from someone who still smokes on occasion and dabbled with coke, so I'm no saint either.
I’m older than most people here listening to this podcast. I have never been a fan of heavy metal or metal or what do you call it from the 80s. But there are certain people that I have total respect for …Dave Mustaine is one of those people that I respect !! I always have since the 80s
That sound you hear is anyone who ever worked with/for him laughing out loud at your take. Great? Sure. Humble? Maybe you don't know the meaning of the word.
Grew up loving MEGADEATH, Dave was a huge influence on me. He seemed so angry back then. It’s awesome to see him from my perspective so wise and knowing now. So real. It’s inspiring. Thanks Dave. Thanks Joe.
Huge fan of Dave and really enjoy hearing about his journey. Hands down, my favorite metal band is Megadeth, much more depth and meaning to the music, true art.
It sucked that Dave was kicked out of Metallica but for us Metal Heads it was blessing. I stopped buying/listening to Metallica after their first four albums. I never stopped buying Megadeth albums/concert tickets and still listen to them all the time even as I'm now a old man at 57.
LOVE Dave Mustaine! Smart, tough and awesome guy and musician pioneer. Glad to see these two together and can't wait for the new Megadeth album Sick, dying, dead. After 2020.....Dave has got more to say then ever. 🙏💪🤝
Great to hear Dave talk about good things all. Im so used to hearing him drone on about Metallica or his dominance of something. He definitely had severe alcohol problems at points in his life. Now for the first time I hear more humanity coming from the man, more-so than Ive heard before anyway.
My stepdad is a Megadeth fanatic. He went to a show years back and ran into Dave on the sidewalk, Dave immediately started to bitch at him for wearing a knockoff Megadeth Tshirt. He was responded to with "Fuck you asshole! I didn't know, I was just trying to support you and your band!" while he ripped his shirt off and threw it at Dave's feet. Dave proceeded to pick the shirt up and dust it off while apologizing and gave it back to him. He also has his autograph on his social security card lol.
Megadeth is one of the big 4 that started Thrash Metal, and I never thought I would see Dave on here. I must watch the entire interview on Spotify now.
Dave is awesome, I've seen Megadeth twice. Once back in 2017, and the first time in 2007 for Gigantour. Someone threw a beer at Gigantour and it landed on the soundboard during "My Darkest Hour". I was right in front of the sound tech, saw the beer fly, time slowed down as it sailed through the air. Shorted the soundboard almost immediately. The sound tech realized what happened in half a second, looked back at the audience, grabbed a towel and tried to save the board. Dave kept playing for about a minute before he stopped. Took about 20-30 minutes to bring a new board and get everything going. Meanwhile the audience is pointing the guy out. I don't know what happened to the guy, I couldn't see him. All Dave said when he got back up on stage to continue is "I feel sorry for whatever is going to happen to that guy". Anyway, he went back into the setlist, and it was a great show.
You can`t count Elvis into the typical Rock and Roll drug scene. Elvis was against drugs, he didn`t even drink alcohol. He had serious depression and health issues. During Elvis` time, they had very little knowledge about the problems Elvis had. He took prescription drugs only. His mother didn`t take any of those drugs and died at the age of 46. On Elvis` maternal side of his family, many died prematurely because they all had serious health issues.
Dave Mustaine is one of the most talented musicians. He did a lot of work on himself. All the guys in Metalica were banged up drinking. They kicked Dave out and they are all sober now. Dave has what you would call "good recovery". I'm glad Dave broke off because Megadeath is amazing. "Foreclosure of a Dream" is my favorite song. Dave's metal had a clear message. Drugs are dead. Not cool.
I wouldn't say dead, recreational drugs (NOT Heroin, Meth, Crack etc.) are fun, but only when you know exactly what you're taking, how much you can tolerate and most importantly, only when you are 100% in control. I use MDMA and Ecstasy nearly every weekend out of choice (not addiction) but never over do it and have very clear limits that I will never exceed. I always have a great time at raves and the E's or Mandy just heighten everything which I absolutely love. I have no serotonin issues, never wake up with hangovers or notable comedowns, I never have an urge to pop a pill or cut a line whilst I'm going about normal day to day life and am in great health. I always notice that at raves, more or less EVERYONE is on Ecstasy or MDMA and exclusively drinking water, alcohol isn't really consumed at all and I'm yet to see a single fight or someone in need of serious help in like 8 years of raving. Compare that to the pubs and normal/generic clubs where everyone is drinking like there's no tomorrow, fights, general trouble and people being sick or blacking out are an extremely common sight. Drugs might not be cool for you, but they definitely have their place and in my opinion, can be the better choice compared to alcohol.
Agreed, he went through a lot, and became a better person over time with age & wisdom. Of course I think most everyone does, but of course there are exceptions, some people just can't learn from mistakes & continue doing stupid shit. I also love "Foreclosure", and "Angry Again" is another favorite.
Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Pantera, Motorhead, Black Sabbath and many other metal bands legit have served a special purpose for my life and I never thought I'd say that lol. I have lots of respect for these musicians and their talents.
Had a chance to coach Dave before his record that won a Grammy a little while ago. As much as we did a ton of vocal work, we also enjoyed great fellowship and talking about ethics and worldview. He’s a brilliant and warm person
@cool guy from 2007 I've done good things and I'm content. If he'd left it with "I worked with Dave" id have thought that was cool as fuck. But he clearly threw in a ridiculous boast
So sad what happened to Elvis he had the world in his hands at a young age and the people around him couldn’t help him more to save his life why he helped everyone and not himself enough but. Was too late

I really want to see this whole interview. Dave is seriously an awesome guy. I’ve shot pictures of Megadeth a few times & backstage he was really courteous and cool. He’s the epitome of beating the struggles!
For the leader of a band called Megadeath…. This is not what I was expecting. Very intelligent person that has has a lot of thought put into what he says. Didn’t expect him to say he was a man of god and finds peace there with his family.
It's good to see someone like Dave Mustaine telling the truth about the reality of taking drugs instead of glorifying drugs which seems to be a new standard these days.
I've seen probably hundreds of guitarists play live in my 48 years but man NOTHING compared to watching Dave play on stage. I only had the pleasure of seeing him play live one time on Gigantour with Opeth, Arch Enemy, & Lamb of God in Tampa FL. I couldn't take my eyes off of him. I kept thinking is this guy for real. Really just blew my mind. Dude can fuckin shred like no other. His intelligence, perseverance, humanitarian, & more importantly very cool to his fans. So I've heard, never had the pleasure of meeting him, but just watching him play his guitar live on stage was quite the experience & in a way I think we ALL at that show got to meet Dave in our own special way. The Legend, Dave Mustaine. So happy that Megadeth is still rocking after all these years.

Yeah to the old stuff. The new stuff is as crappy as all Metallica stuff after load and reload too. I can completely understand what Dave is talking about. I am his age and alcohol was just normal to use for fun. As I got older though, it started to become a problem and I had nobody to tell me I should slow down or help direct me in the right direction.

Facts
And he can sing while playing. Singing and playing anything together is very hard. I can manage on punk rock songs with easy riffs. I can’t imagine trying it with music as complex as Dave’s.
THIS GUY DM IS FKN SOMETHING ELSE MAN@@travisstafford397
Amazing episode Joe! Dave is like Bruce Lee on guitar because he pioneered a new style and always used his own words. I always looked up to him.
My friends and I would always refer to it as "when Dave kicked the Metallica guys out of Megadeth"
Well he aim to destroy Metallica.
Always loved megadeth but the respect really cam around when I seem them live! On the Metallica front I never got the hype!
That symphony of destruction riff was quite the toe tapper
That's the formula for a great rock star sex, drugs,etc.etc.he was my role model get it back
@@grindcoreninja6527he’s a role model because he has shown us the effects of drug abuse ,but he’s also showed many addicts *you can come back*
I agree
Less than $2,000? Not bad.
I’m older than most people here listening to this podcast. I have never been a fan of heavy metal or metal or what do you call it from the 80s. But there are certain people that I have total respect for …Dave Mustaine is one of those people that I respect !! I always have since the 80s
Keep on rocking brother!!!

Great? Sure.
Humble? Maybe you don't know the meaning of the word.
That would be sick.

I love that with Dave it’s mental health first
The man is a legend I grew up with in my teenage years(80s) been on drugs, been unwell and is still doing it.
I never stopped buying Megadeth albums/concert tickets and still listen to them all the time even as I'm now a old man at 57.
me too. but you are not "old" yet - trust me, I'm 56 ;)
LOVE Dave Mustaine! Smart, tough and awesome guy and musician pioneer. Glad to see these two together and can't wait for the new Megadeth album Sick, dying, dead. After 2020.....Dave has got more to say then ever. 🙏💪🤝
Holy shit!! Dave Mustaine on fuckin JRE 😳😳😳 so awesome! 🤘🤘🤘

Dave is a living legend and a big influence on my guitar playing, along with Marty of course. 👍🏾

God, how can you not love Dave Mustaine. Still out on tour sounding just as good as ever.
Your stepdad freakin ROCKS!!!🤟🤟🤟 Cool story.
That's actually a cool story.
That's awesome that Dave realized not all people have the best of the best. Glad he made it right. I've heard Dave can be an asshole
At least it has a happy ending lol
hahaha good share man
Megadeth is one of the big 4 that started Thrash Metal, and I never thought I would see Dave on here. I must watch the entire interview on Spotify now.

@@blksbth1 Indeed. I love that they did a track with Ice T. And Soldier On is dope. Looking forward to it for sure!
Saw megadeth a few months ago they're amazing live
I saw them in 2016
You can`t count Elvis into the typical Rock and Roll drug scene.
What a compelling fellow. I have to say, during the 90s the music Megadeth really struck a chord with me. So many brilliant productions!
struck a chord, huh
@@hazardeur Hah! I didn't even think about that when I wrote it.
Dave is a guitar God. Megadeth for life.
Not cool.
Dave Mustaine has the same problem as Billy Corgan: great guitarist and song writer, but his vocals make me cringe.
Drugs come from. The ccp.
@@karlstrauss2330 And they are both genius artists.
Agreed, he went through a lot, and became a better person over time with age & wisdom. Of course I think most everyone does, but of course there are exceptions, some people just can't learn from mistakes & continue doing stupid shit. I also love "Foreclosure", and "Angry Again" is another favorite.
OMG I haven’t been excited about a guest he’s had in a long time!
This.
Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Pantera, Motorhead, Black Sabbath and many other metal bands legit have served a special purpose for my life and I never thought I'd say that lol. I have lots of respect for these musicians and their talents.

Rust In Piece is a super refined stellar technical thrash record. The best songs IMO are 'Holy Wars... The Punishment Due', 'Lucretia' and 'Tornado Of souls'.
