I hope i made Freddie proud go watch my remix to Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody link: ua-cam.com/video/MV1GlpwCG0I/v-deo.html
That day, in 1985, Queen reminded the WORLD just how important they were. LEGENDARY.
Freddie mercury and Queen stole the show that day...Sorry nobody came close.
Agree with you, Jackie. That was a magical day and they slayed it.
I heard a story that John Deacon, who was the bassist and whom also had an electronics degree, found a way to boost the amps so they were louder than they were for the other bands. Not only musically talented but rather brilliant overall. So they took that edge and ran with it. The rest is history. Considered to be the greatest rock performance in history. Imagine having to follow a band like Queen. May as well just pack up the amps and go home.
Yes they did! I remember watching it on tv and thinking the show so far was a bit lame....then Queen came on stage and blew the place apart 😀
I watched as well and, I don’t remember who was on after Queen but, you know they were sweatin bullets.
Lorrie Moore David Bowie followed Queen, he sang Rebel Rebel!
Doctors had warned Freddie Mercury not to go on stage that day because he had a throat complaint but obviously he went on anyway.
Jason Williams the show must go on
Vault Dude so that's why his voice cracked a bit still sounded amazing..
To say that in a word “legend”
Nothing kept him down.
Jason Williams
3:43 you can maybe just hear a bit of a croak. Pretty fucking good apart from that from a guy with a bad throat!
He turned an entire arena into a coffee house with his performance, he reached every single person in there, incredible.
Not only were all members of the band gifted musically but they were pretty good academically. Freddie had a Diploma in Graphic Art from a London College Ealing. Roger Taylor (drummer) has a Batchelor of Science in Biology and studied Dentistry at the London Hospital Medical College. John Deacon(bass) has a 1st Class Honours Degree in Electronics. Brian May(lead guitar) has a PhD and a Doctorate of Astrophysics and recently worked on Stereo Imaging of Pluto at the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory Maryland. These guys ROCK.
Also Roger has one of the most powerful voices in the band. His background vocals are immense
Please watch the whole queen live aid performance, it's incredible and only 20 mins
One of the greatest performances in all of Rock N Roll
Queen 1974 at the rainbow better then overated live aid
Agreed. This is a must watch live performance. One of the greatest sets of all time of any genre.
Yep. Watch it all up to We are the championd which is last. Would be thrilling man. Really would.
Michael Zuckerman yes please watch live aid.
‘When people come together for one purpose: to listen to music’. Joey, that crowd came together for more than one purpose. It was the Live Aid concert to raise money for the catastrophic famine in Ethiopia. It was a transcontinental concert, with 72 thousand people at Wembley alone, had all the greatest acts of the era, but Queen stole the show.
Don’t listen to haters man they are just jealous that you grew this fast and I think you are a chill cool dude and I love the classic rock stuff😎
thanks so much for words !
I totally agree! Don't worry about the haters.. they are just angry because the truth you speak contradicts the way they live. Can't please everybody! Besides...like 3 weeks ago you barely had $1,000 followers! And look now!! 🤘
@@jennk22 I know right this is fun watching the channel grow. .. rock on :)
👍👍👍❤️
@@jennk22 what haters lol
Joey, Freddie Mercury had probably the BEST voice in rock and roll. Phenomenal showman, but the band itself is as top notch as any other.
he was a god.
Scott Belew he undoubtedly had the best voice. Have you heard him sing true opera? Makes me cry. Because he was sick when he made that album. We were blessed to have him as long as we did.
Not just rock. Dude's voice was unreal. He could make you cry, curse, and shout at the same time.
no not top notch....they set the bar.
everytime i hear Freddie mercury sing.. it gives me goosebumps
The show must go on by Queen
This
Yep.
^
"Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can flyyyyyyyyyyyyyy my frieeeends" :'v
Fred’s voice was a gift from the gods, with a sound like the angels themselves. Legend. One of a kind. Such a terrible loss. His tragic painful death from AIDS took him way to soon. But his music will live forever...
I love his voice
Don't be knocking Joey he the 👨.This is so cool to view him checking out 70's classics. He appreciates art and notices bits in songs that many of us don't. 😎
When professional singers talk about this concert and Freddie's command of the crowd, they talk about how it was like "The Nuremberg (Hitler) rallies with a band at it." And how "He smoked it!" You should watch the documentaries (both short, under 10 minutes): The Story Of Queen in Live Aid 1985 and, Queen at Live Aid - 20 Minutes That Changed Music
Freddie was so ill but like the true professional he was he went on stage , and smashed it . This song is my favourite queen song , but the live aid performance sends shivers down my spine .
There's a story about Live Aid that I think I saw on some behind-the-scenes video. Apparently all the bands had to work with the person in charge of the sound board, who was basically keeping things turned down to 8. During the break before Queen went on, the story goes, one of their roadies sneaked into the appropriate area and turned everything up to 10. Nobody involved with Live Aid knew that anything had happened, until the first chords of Queen's set rang out and everybody's head snapped toward the monitors: what did they do?!?
It was their front-of-house sound mixer James "Trip" Khalaf.
I remember Live Aid like it was yesterday, for one day the entire world was united. The gig was started in Wembly Stadium in London and finished in J.F.Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia with other countries holding gigs too. It was said to have audiences of 1.9 billion worldwide all for charity
Yeah, massive event
Ian Stevenson
Ditto. In the US. (Kansas). LOVE Bowie. He was such a champ: "Thanks guys😉!" Following QUEEN was not easy, lol.
Phil Collins played London, then flew on Concorde and played in Philadelphia. So rock'n'roll. Crazy that that was possible in the 80s but not in 2018 :(
Exactly!!! '85 still feels like yesterday, such a memorable + emotional day for all that can remember!! 💖 Rest in Power Freddie!!! 👊🏽✊🏽✌🏽💖💖
That stadium is the old Wembley Stadium, a football (soccer) stadium that was actually fully demolished and they built the new Wembley - at a cost of $4 billion - on the same spot. It's a thing in England that you either expand or rebuild on the same spot, rather than build a new one down the road, etc.
Been to both. The old Wembley was very old but had an amazing vibe. The new Wembley is actually bigger (!!) than the old. It's like a landed spaceship and feels different until you're inside and then you realise the field is the same field as the old Wembley. It's crazy. It's like the spirit of all those games going back to the 1800s and then all these amazing artists like Freddie are still in the place. You need to go there Joey, you'll see what I mean.
72,000 crowd on the day sez wiki.
You can see the pitch from anywhere in the stands at new Wembley, unlike the old one.
Wow, I would have thought it would be more. Old Wembley held 80,000. Now about 25 percent of the stands would be used by the staging, but a full pitch. Fascinating! And yeah, new Wembley is awesome, but that walk down Wembley Way towards the Twin Towers was something else. Now even the new Wembley arch is hard to see due to all the building they are doing around it.
ChrisNSF The old Wembley stadium held a few more than 80,000.
I went to the Golden Jubilee "50 years of Speedway" world final there in 1978 and was part of a crowd of 110,000, was told that the capacity had been restricted down from 120,000 because it was an evening event.
YOU HAVE TO WATCH THE WHOLE CONCERT. THEY MADE HISTORY THAT DAY!!!
2:45 that passion. There will never be another one like Freddie.
I have been a Queen fan since about 1976. Have seen them live twice in my life and they are still the two best live concerts I have ever seen. And I have seen most of the big names. Warms my heart to see their music still being discovered and appreciated so many years later. Good music has a way of bringing us all together.
That said.... March of the Back Queen, which I call the older less polished sister to Bohemian Rhapsody, would be a great place to dig into early Queen sounds. Innuendo, a later track. is Queen doing what Queen does best. So as I said in another of your video's, Those 2 songs really encompass the Queen sound. Honestly, take an afternoon and review an album at a time. Rarely a weak song in their entire catalog.
Dark_Helmut you are very fortunate. How cool in must hVe been to be there.
Wow, you lucky duck. I’m 50 and never got to see them outside of videos and watching the live aid performance in my living room. Color me extremely jealous.
I say queen live last year at the hollywood bowl. Adam lambert cant ever be freddy mercury but hes good enough to make it one of the coolest things ive done
I too am jealous!!! I was too young and then when I was of age it was too late. 🐧🐧
So jealous you've seen them! It must have been a beautiful experience. I'll never get that pleasure, but I'm thankfull to know their music. I absolutely adore them and am so happy you think that way about The March Of The Black Queen! That was my exact thought since the moment I've heard the song! Cheers to you, so happy to see more Queen fans. :)
Queen and Freddie Mercury were an Awesome group ,and Freddie an incredible singer with a staggering 4-Octave vocal range..awesome
I feel so blessed that I got to see Queen live in 1980, at the young age of 14, I knew every word to every song, It was so powerful, the crowd sang along to every song, Freddie would just stop singing and let the crowd take over, I'm in my early 50"s now and it still sends a chill down my spine when I think about it, so many great songs, you really need to get greatest hits and just go from start to finish, it will blow you away!!!!
33 years later, and the people still singin your song. Thats how you know you are a legend.
Queen's music has been used and sampled so many times.
see kids this is how you do a live show...
True
So glad to see younger generation loving one of most amazing rock bands ever. I am 61 and I saw Queen perform with Freddie on 5 separate occasions. I still love to rock out to them!! So glad to see your reaction!!!
Queen at 'Live Aid' '85!!!...still feels like yesterday, u have no idea how huge this concert was, worldwide!!! Timeless!!! Watch the concert kids, Live Aid '85!!! Changed live music forever!!!!
The greatest performance ever given by anyone ever in the history of music. Full stop.
I have been a long time fan since 1975. No one like Freddie Mercury, one of a kind. Pure legend. I had the chance to them back in 1980 .
Queen- "Death on Two Legs", "You're My Best Friend", "Another One Bites the Dust", "Killer Queen", "Fat Bottomed Girls"...the list goes on and on with Queen. Legendary band!!!
Darrell Waller he already did fat bottomed girls
This concert was the day that the whole world finally realized what a treasure Freddie truly was and just how anthemic Queen music is.
Best 20 minutes in Rock N Roll history. Period.
I was privileged to watch that live when I was a teenager remember like it was yesterday
Freddie could hold the crowd like no other group ive seen in my lifetime he will be so missed.
Lovin' watching you react to some of the great British rock I grew up with man. It's honestly awesome to see someone from a different generation, country, and background, get as much out of them as I did when I first heard these amazing tracks and performances.
Yes....”Bohemian Rhapsody” is the movie coming NOVEMBER 2nd!!!! YES!!!
This “We Are The Champions” was for an event called “Live Aid” July 13th, 1985. It was a huge bunch of musical artists coming together to help feed the people of Ethiopia.
Freddie was very smart and asked the sound engineers to make them louder than the rest of the bands. Even the other music bands were blown away with this performance. Watch the whole Queen performance. It’s truly amazing!
I'm 56 and grew up with this music. I love your reaction to the queen videos.
Like others suggested, watch that whole performance at Live Aid. Other bands played as well, but none of them commanded the audience like Freddie did. Once you love Queen, which I am sure you do by now, you will no doubt love Freddie. What a talent, and what a loss to the world of music now that he is gone. Watching one of his last videos will break your heart. He was one of a kind.
I'd love to go back in time to see Queen in concert. They are phenomenal.
Queen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love them so much. This song was recorded in 1977, great song
No one has a voice like Freddie Mercury. Such power and energy.
Queen at Live Aid...one of the greatest live performances in the history of ever.
Thanks for doing this, bro. Makes me happy.
Freddie Mercury was something else and I feel privileged I got to see him and Queen in the 80's.
I'm so glad you are enjoying your musical journey my friend 🙂
I was 8 years old. it was a beautiful day. Never forgotten.
The entire Live Aid concert was a turning point for the music industry and was such a historical moment.
Nothing like Freddy. Gorgeous, the voice, the clothes, the confidence.
How can you not adore him? Freddy Forever 💖
The good old days, when the atmosphere was alive and kicking big time, nice choice joe👍
What makes this performance extra special is that, at that time, Queen was considered a band who were past their prime. Live Aid was a dual-venue benefit concert to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. And the line-up in both the UK and US was absolutely stellar (also other countries were inspired to held similar concerts that day).
They played right after U2 and the rest of the line-up included artists such as Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Sting, Dire Straits and many other great names.
Nobody expected Queen to deliver all that much. But they did, the stole the show that day. Bryan May (the guitarist) would later go on record to say that it was all down to Freddie Mercury. He thought of a way to squeeze their biggest hits into the 25 minute time frame. And when they started Freddie captured not only the entire stadium, but everyone around the world watching on the television, from the first note they played till the last.
It's considered to be one of the greatest live performances in history by fans and critics alike.
I highly recomend you watch the entire show (-:
Really enjoying your comments! Queen was an amazing band and Freddie Mercury maybe one of the best singers of all time.
Having lived in the US for 10 years it still surprises me how little some Americans know that a significant part of their background music to sport, politics and popular culture comes from a band from my homeland that once ruled the world and performed to gigantic crowds. Queen were the best band on earth and Mercury was the greatest frontman ever. If you weren't smiling at one of their live shows you gasping at the extraordinary talent in front of you. Over 30 years since Mercury has performed on a stage people are discovering Queen's greatness on UA-cam again and it's about time. Four people and (in later years) an extra keyboard player made you believe there was a hidden orchestra and a choir hidden from view in Somebody to Love when it was just Mercury and the band. When something was impossible to replicate like the mid-part of Bohemian Rhapsody they walked off stage and played the tape and returned when they could deliver part 3 with just them. Their sound was heard across the world and Mercury really was universally loved in the UK and Europe when he died.
This performance is legendary. I can say that all the songs from this are worth taking a look.
Freddie told 'em all--they're were the champs...of the world.
I am an older lady. My rock and roll days were gone when Queen appeared. Loved them! What a talent Freddy was. Gone way too soon. I listen to Queen everyday and I am 66 years old.
It’s so cool that you are stretching out and listening to all kinds of music, especially during the time when rock was still young. So much talent!
Over 80,000 in that crowd, and Queen stole the show.
That's not forgetting the several million watching on live TV coverage on both sides of the Atlantic.
Joey please, please please do a reaction to the whole of the Queen Live Aid set. I know I'm not the only one who would love to see this.
Have a blessed day. Helen in the UK. x
yes yes yes
There are so many people who hear a song and then when they finally find out who sings it...it's like a light being turned on in a dark room. Welcome. This is why they should never get rid of music programs in schools. We end up with young people not knowing some of the greatest artists in the world of music. It's never too late to explore new music. Thanks for the videos.
Joey, I love watching your reaction to Queen. That is the way I felt when I first heard them 40+ years ago.
Your look of amazement made me smile when you realized you’d heard snippets of the song. Yes, I’m binging on these videos.
and we'll keep on fIIIIIIghting til the end!!
Freddie is our favourite son here in the UK Joey. He holds such love and affection with the UK public. We are so proud he was ours. We miss him. Im so glad you discovered Freddie and Queen. :) x
The interviews with other performers from that day, the biggest stars in the world, were great. As you can see, Queen were slotted early in the day as they hadn't had a hit in a year or two. And then they unleashed 20 minutes of show stealing anthems and they were all like, oh crap, I forgot they had all those killers in their back pocket and a good many more. They also forgot that Queen was one of the world's most ferocious live bands, just incredible players. I've been a huge Queen fan since I was a kid in the '70s and a big fan of their early music which is a lot heavier than what they became famous for. At the end of the tour for their third album, they'd released Bohemian Rhapsody and filmed two Christmas concerts for their fans in London, England and cut them together for TV. They became known as the Legendary Concert, with good reason. They tear the house down, I'd love to see your reaction. www.dailymotion.com/video/x1vwngv
"We" love you Joey - you are RIGHT - all kinna people coming together for ONE PURPOSE, peaceful enjoyment of GOOD MUSIC is Love.
Thanks for sharing...
SOMEBODY TO LOVE - MONTREAL 1981
Around 170,000 people there i was there, unforgettable day i saw queen twice in concert they were amazing x
Agree that Queen stole the show an talented endless no words can express how musically magic they were...I used to have listen to Queen every time I would be with my dad in his car hence why I probably no all the words ..GOD BLESS FREDDIE
The Show Must Go On . Queen . Freddie Mercury knew he was dying and terminal at that point and killed the vocals . The kind that brings goosebumps to your arms
Thanks for the recharge of my passion for Queen. They keep growing still to this day.
What a loss ….losing Freddie Mercury. One of the greatest artist of all time. He put so much into his music. Come Christmas.... be sure and check out "Thank God It's Christmas"
I was there!...this put a lump in my throat and your reaction took me right back to that day. Thank you, A great loss when Freddie died.
Goosebumps from my childhood. Bigup for showing queen.
Freddie's voice was beautiful.he had a oprea voice.and just imagine how big that crowed was and far back and his voice reached loud and clear .
This song just make u feel like a winner everytime.
Joey. I have seen various reviews from various posters. I am so happy that so many who may have more exposure to other genres have embraced Queen and appreciate the groups legendary talent. Having said that, I especially enjoy your reactions. I see how you become immersed in their music. I still get chills listening to them and when I watch your reactions, it reminds me of how I felt when I saw them live in the 70's in Toronto. Thank you.
Queen's Who Wants To Live Forever is an amazing song.
Ahhh... the magic kids today will never know.. a packed to the hilt stadium, everybody there to get lost in the music.. so happy I lived thru those times.. what id give to go back even for a moment♡♡♡
OH MY GOD Freddie I never get tired of hearing you!
And you didn't count it 90K people in Philadelphia who were watching at the same time. That concert is Legendary and that performance... Memorable! Try to watch the whole concert, it's So Dope! We need more concerts like that!
There will NEVER be another QUEEN! Classic rock at it's best! Great reaction, one to check out, Queen- Innuendo! Much love and respect!!
The song they do before this one: We Will Rock You, is awesome.
Freddie stops, and has that whole ginormous crowd chanting, "WE WILL, WE WILL ROCK YOU!"
Freddie Mercury is the G.O.A.T.! He's a contender for world's greatest entertainer. He was the whole package: a singer with a 4 octave range and a rare vibrato (identified by scientific study!), a gifted songwriter, a great instrumentalist, a charismatic performer with a fuck-ton of swagger who loved to give his all for his fans... and yet, he was also a humble, humorous, and good person, out of the limelight. One who is loved and missed by many people who were close to him.
Yes that crowd was huge. Roger Talor the drummer said in an interview once, that there was 80,000 in the top teir alone!
Love, love, love Queen. Always have.
You should also listen to their music as it was recorded. The concert versions and the recorded are all amazing! Queen is the best!!! I REALLY miss Freddie Mercury!
Quite an achievement to bring this powerful song LIVE !
Here is a song you could listen too, "The show must go on" by queen, written by Brian May their guitarist and sung by freddie, one of the last songs he sung before he died. Brian said this just before frieddie recorded it: "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing.' And he went, 'I'll fucking do it, darling' - vodka down - and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal."
I was in that crowd , it was a great day , Queen stole the show ,
Can you imagine the love and energy coming to them!
the whole concert is one of the best perfomances ever
Freddie Mercury's voice is so good it makes you want to weep. Chills
Wembley Stadium London.... 👌👌. Always looked amazing... but that was a special day. Live Aid
Hey Joey, I am really enjoying hearing these songs through your reactions, as if for the first time. I'm glad that Queen's music found you!
I remember watching that day as if it was yesterday..Live Aid all day long..
Freddie Mercury was one of a kind. Hammer to Fall and Stone Cold Crazy are also great songs by Queen.
The movie is coming out in Nov called Bohemian Rhapsody. Played by Rami from Mr. Robot. Just saw Ann interview w him where he was told to submit a tape of him singing for remainingmembers of Queen to watch. He did. Then few days later told tomedt up w film people and Queen. He assumed they’d watched it. No. Imagine having to sing close enough to Freddie Mercury for Queen to approve. And then to have to sit there while they watch n hear you. Obviously did well enough. He really looks like gives amazing performance.
Queen- I want it all
After more than 20 years, their music and songs lives forever, YES, I AM A QUEEN FAN with Freddy Mercury ❤️
Queens Live Aid performance is said to be the best live band performance of all time.. the crowd was completely under their spell. Video lasts about 20 minutes! So worth watching!!!
