Freddie was probably the best vocalist ever. He was able to sing in three octaves and you won't find that today. He was a great songwriter and performer. Queen made an impression whenever they played.

    • @LunarSovereign
      @LunarSovereign 6 років тому +6

I'll have to check him out! Freddie baffled scientists(granted that's not always hard to do) by his ability. They actually did a study on him. Makes you wonder who paid for all that. What I should have said was that people like him are a rarity. Some of today "greats" just don't compare.

I remember once in high school, I was talking about music I liked and when I mentioned Queen as one of my favorite bands, someone asked “who’s Queen?” I asked her if she’d ever heard Bohemian Rhapsody, she said no. This surprised me as I was sure most people have heard Bohemian Rhapsody at least once.
To prove my point, I started singing
“Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?”
And a random stranger behind me joined in, singing
“Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality.”

Think about the first time you listen to a song..even one that is consistent rhythmically and predictable it is still hard to nod to the beat...so to do that one the FIRST time listening to this song, if it is the first time well that is freaking impressive...Ill give him the benefit of the doubt though. Just wanted to see what your opinion on that is because you make a good point.

Fun fact. The line _"Scaramouche,_ _Scaramouche_ _can_ _you_ _do_ _the_ _fandango."_ Referrers to a type of marinette puppet with an extendable neck. These puppets were used for slapstick humor they were often villainized and then beaten until their head popped off their body like a rockem sockem robot. Fandango is a Spanish folk dance between two or more people, it can also mean a foolish or useless act.
It makes the song all the more meaningful that when he wrote it he was dieing of AIDS. From what I assume he thought was foolish actions. His regret and fatalism is rapped up beautifully in a kind of dark twisted humor and nonchalant nihilism.

      G'day,
Ah, nope..., it isn't possible for anybody to have been dying of AIDS while they were writing Bohemian Rhapsody...; that's chronologically impossible.
I was listening to Bohemian Rhapsody in (I think) 1977..., when I was a teenager in Boarding-School (& dating it by which Dormitory I was in when I first heard the song..!) ; whereas when Time Magazine first published the story of Aquired Human Immunodefficiency Syndrome ("AIDS") it was in late 1983 and they had not yet discovered the Human Immunodefficiency Virus ("HIV")..., but that was what they thought they were looking for....
In 1983 when the AIDS story broke, about the Gay Airline Steward shagging his way all around the World and the spread of AIDS being monitored by watching Caposi's Sarcoma spreading first among California's Gays and then appearing Globally..., I was a 3rd-year Student Nurse working at a Sydney Hospital whereinat 1/2 the Nursing staff were male (as I am) & 1/2 the Nursing staff were Gay (as I'm not), and there were some Bisexuals from both "Sides" who were playing for both "Teams" ; and I can vividly remember realising that the days of "Free Love" were over, because from then on in - Sexual Promuscuity meant risking a (then) untreatable and fatal Virus...
Most of the Gay men that I worked with, and trained with, are long-since dead...; but the big Die-off didn't begin till about 1984 or '85, and by '86 the Gays & the Needle-Drug Junkies were dying like Flies.
But, none of that was happening in 1977 - let alone in '76 when 'Rhapsody was written.
      Just(ifiably ?) sayin',
      Take it easy...
      ;-p
      Ciao !

As much I would hope I am wrong about this.. I don't think the music business would be a whole lot different. I think these great artists (as they were) would unfortunately be obsolete in today's "gimmick" music business. It's all about what sells over quality. Look at Gangham Style...super hot flash in the pan. Haven't heard from that guy since but it made millions fast. Drake has been doing the same song for more than 5 or 6 years now but it sells so they keep pushing it. It's all about style over substance today.

Take Lennon for example, I mean, he was in the biggest band on the planet, and looking at Pauls lengthy career (which he still is going strong).. I would predict Lennon to have similar success. This is only my opinion of course, hard to predict exactly how it would go down for each individual, it's interesting to think about though. Two choices: Queen at Live Aid. Twenty minute gig in 1985 where they owned the world. More than 30 years later and it is still, consistently, voted/considered the greatest live performance of all time. Or (both?) "Somebody to Love," live. Either in Montreal or (my favorite version) live at the Bowl.

Also, all the members of Queen wrote songs. Some of the most famous ones were written by the bass player John Deacon.

Sadly, I think of him very November. He passed on my birthday. I light a candle for him and set him up with a glass of wine or beer. A HUGE smile came over my face when you said this was so beautiful. I first heard this around about Christmas time 1975. I was 11 years old. I had been given a board game "Escape from Colditz" and was playing it with my friend from next door in his house.. and this came on the radio. We stopped what we were doing and just listened... we just looked at each other and said "wowwwwww"............ that was it. Hooked on the music of Queen. BR was accompanied by the first "true" pop video and used amazong "computer graphics" (a new term at the time) to enhance the music.
The lead singer, one Frederick Bulsaris (Freddie Mercury) died of an Aids related illness, but the other members of the band are still going strong and are still gigging, albeit sporadically.
An interesting thing. Queen are the only band in the world that has had every one of it's members write a British number one!
    This list is NOT exhaustive:
    Mercury. Bohemian Rhapsody.
    May. We Will Rock You.
Deacon. Another One Bites The Dust.
    Taylor. Radio Ga Ga.

not every note, long top notes freddy had a problem with that why in Bohemian Rhaspody, they are done by Roger Taylor the drummer as Brian May explains in the Life of Bohemian Rhaspody Video.
But Freddie had one of the most impressive vocal ranges ever by a singer

It was impressive that Joey noticed on his first listen that the "Mama / Just killed a man..." part is the key to understanding the rest of the song. Took me several listens to pick up on that, distracted as I was by how much is going on in the song musically.

The thing I got when he reacted the way did was "Oh yeah, Tupac did something similar" and it's just a general thing that happened on the rap/r&b scene for a while. Tech N9ne also talks in length about his mother, especially in Oh Yeah which is also weirdly operatic in a more Gothic sense.
It's ultimately funny how we grip onto different things just because we're more or less exposed to them.

    • @DanHarkless_Halloween_YTPs_etc
      @DanHarkless_Halloween_YTPs_etc 6 років тому +2

Yup, I also thought perhaps he was relating it to similar rap lyrics, but this is the first Joey Reacts video I've seen, so I didn't want to assume he must be a rap fan. It may or may not have been an influence, but I can't help but be reminded of Camus' "The Stranger", which of course directly inspired The Cure's "Killing an Arab" (often misunderstood as a racist song).
(Also, in high school, at which point I hadn't yet heard "Bohemian Rhapsody", I wrote a poem told from a similar point-of-view of someone who's just shot somebody in the head, isn't sure if it really just happened, and isn't sure how to feel about it. I actually still kinda like it.)
