The character of James Hadleigh first appeared in a 13 Episode series called Gazette en.wikipedia.o...) , as a millionaire who relocates from London to Yorkshire and buys a local newspaper founded by his father many years before.
For those of you here just for Penelope Keith, she appears at 14:18
she's the onl things taht saves the episdoe - actual real acting.
I feel so seen ...
I always enjoyed this series. Gerald Harper was always excellent.
Thank you for uploading this episode! You're an angel!
The great lost Keith episode. 😉 Thanks for sourcing.
I seem to remember that when I first started uploading these, only Ep9 was missing from another channel's episodes of S1 Hadleigh. It wasn't until I was prompted by a comment the other day that she couldn't find the "Keith" episodes that I decided to fill the gap. Am hoping it's not part of the great UA-cam copyright drive to expunge content. The TV Archive channel was zapped completely just recently. 7 years of uploading by Andy Pearman.
@@FoogouFilms Although her character was still a bit 'superior' in this episode, she did look as though she was up for a laugh, albeit, in that rather high handed manner that poshos tend to.
@@davidfogarty2220 Also an enthusiastic smoker in wilful opposition to that other busybody woman.
@@FoogouFilms Yet another sad ending for James though. Forever the lonely bachelor, or as the Gilbert O'Sullivan song at the time would have it, 'Alone Again (Naturally)'.
@@davidfogarty2220 Indeed. I bought "Claire" when it came out. I was intrigued by his off-kilter image in contrast to the prevailing glam and flambuoyance of the era - which I also loved! So much more variety in the charts then. I'm put in mind of that infamous tour in 1967 that included Jimi Hendrix, Engelbert Humperdinck, Cat Stevens and The Walker Brothers. Though apparently it was a disaster. Here's a handbill of the event: ua-cam.com/video/Q8YgBtokaeg/v-deo.htmlsi=0NDjTxEotmKTcOvr
This has got to be the **best** Hadleigh episode of Series 1, it's priceless !😂
This is cool to see. I've always found Penelope Keith very charming and classy. I'm trying to find a program she was on called "Kate", it's from the early '70s. Anyone know where I may be able to find it?
That "Kate" is certainly elusive. Can find no trace of it on UA-cam. Hope you have better luck.
Good episode. Elfrida is just right for James! Hope abounds.
In the leader industrial plants are clearly visible. People didn't know about pollution then.
The lovely Penelope, major HOTS for years 😘. Totally classy
James Hadleigh: are rich guys this nice? I just don't believe it. He's too good to be true.
I suppose that statistically speaking there must be at least one or two out there ;-)
Thanks for posting. / Was anyone one else confused by the house in this episode? Where is the Fraulein? Does anyone else want that relationship to move forward?
I'm more confused by the "broad Yorkshire accent" of Hadleigh's future wife despite her mother's "posh English accent", when they're both born and brought up in Yorkshire.😉
His girlfriend didn’t have a broad Yorkshire accent but her mother did.
Wonder what happened to the girl who played Susan, can’t find anything about her after this.
will we get the rest of S4 ? iv'e watched 1 / 2 and although it's looking bad i would like to see the end, please .
Yes, one episode up each Friday.
@@FoogouFilms brilliant
Every time I watch one of these he’s always with another girl.
The only girl in his life is Aunt Helen.😉
Wait until you get to Series 4! Coming soon.
Gentlemen though doesn't pump them
@@grahamhill9499 🙄🤦♀
The only good thing about Helen ,was the dress.
Never any lager
Delighted Jen is leaving. Total mismatch
Who’s Jen?
If you mean Susan, yes. It didn't seem much of a romance etc.
This series just doesn't work - stilted, artificila and the worst acting - you can tell they are acting.
Are we watching the same programme ? !
