The Corrupted Ashbringer - Azeroth Arsenal Episode 14
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 лют 2019
- In this episode, we talk about the Corrupted Ashbringer, the cursed blade of the fallen Highlord, Alexandros Mograine. Despite ultimately being a simple boss drop, it was at the center of one of the biggest scavenger hunts in the game's history with players trying to find ways to purify it and restore it to its former (legendary) glory.

"It was a mistake to give players a lore weapon like the corrupted Ashbringer"
Proceeds to give players the Ashbringer, Doomhammer, Gorehowl, Swords made out of Frostmourne, etc.
Well, situation with Legion was a little bit different, so at that time it was ok. But in Vanilla...Well, it was tricky. I hate the Idea, that we had to destroy it tho
DrewPicklesTheDark Gorehowl drops in Karazhan tho lol? In BC u idiot
@@kaizouttv Prince Malchazar drops it.
@@mrrey3481 I think they meant it was a mistake to give players the corrupted version without ever actually completing the purification quest chain
You know its a good day when MadSeason Posts
Is it Friday already?
Have you your 70 like Stryker now more 69 for you
Have you your 70 like Stryker now more 69 for you
Love to start my day with a cup of coffee and the soothing voice of MadSeason
Amen.
The old one looks way cooler than the Legion one
I agree!
Legion one doesn't even look like Ashbringer.
Bullshit :D
yeah the legion one is horse shit and is stupid and bad and is trash can.
Yes
When you hear that intro music, you know you're in for a treat
👏🏻 Bed time listening from the number one monotone master.
Lets go, Corrupted Ashbringer!!
KILL THEM ALL
Just in time as its past 2 AM
If you go into The Escape from Durnhold Keep dungeon, and run to Southshore and go inside the inn, you can actually see Mograine and a few other notable characters purify the orb and have a pretty cool conversation about what they are going to do with it. Also can find a human, Kel'thuzad before he became a lich.
Maybe that was how you were going to purify it. Keep it from level 60 and once you hit 70, start a quest chain in ancient hillsbrad to purify the blade into a level 70 legendary.
I totally forgot about that! I couldn't find any footage on UA-cam, so I went ahead and checked it out myself and recorded it. I'll upload it here in a bit so more people see it. Edit: here it is ua-cam.com/video/L6WUh9Ck7MM/v-deo.html
@@madseasonshow Does it mean you'll re-upload this video?
@@sindweller Nah I'll just have that unlisted video up if people are curious. I probably should have mentioned it in this video though. Ah well
@@madseasonshow I wonder if they have an interaction when you walk in there with Corrupted Ashbringer equipped.
Actually, no. There was an entire Outland planned for Vanilla. There is evidence (such as the existence of an unfinished Outland in the Deadmines and the Portal to Karazhan that Atiesh provided) that much of the planned later Vanilla Content became BC in the end; i think even Metzen or Hazzikostas mentioned in an Interview, that they had so many ideas for Outland, that they made it into Burning Crusade instead of another content patch.
"giving players the corrupted ashbringer was a mistake" - blizzard fun police.
Kyrr-naion I’d suspect it’s more because Blizzard had more plans for it lore-wise (in WotLK) and scrapped the questline which would purify it and turn it into a legendary ashbringer.
Blizzard Can’t even comprehend how much their game means to some of us and the little details like that. I’m 26 now started playing in the burning Crusade never got to experience vanilla I’m so excited to be able to I just hope they leave all of the little hidden secrets from the core
RANDOM NAME I don’t see why they couldn’t have still done that, but just required you to get it from the raid. By the time WotLK came around you could pretty much solo Naxx, couldn’t you?
Elijah Ramer I don’t think there was, at least in tbc. In early wrath, mages could spellsteal Bone Armor off the mobs in the DK/Military Quarter. Combined with encanters absorption(I think?) would make them indestructible as well as a walking nuke due to the spell damage increase from shied absorption’s. They would just walk around with the mob that spawns bone armor and constantly spell steal it off whenever it was casted. I’ve only seen vids. Never got to do it myself as it was nerfed quickly
Seeing the Tirion cutscene just made me so mad all over again. They killed Tirion in legion just to give players Ashbringer and it pisses me off.
Well, theres the difference. They didn't have the balls to kill Thrall, but still gave the Doomhammer to Shamans, but with a similar stupid reasoning in my opinion.
I mean, losing his connection to the elements is one thing but... "you use it in a way I was never able to" ... wait what?
Gunnar Karotte he lost his connection to the elements because he killed garrosh, who in fact did nothing wrong
@@ventu7907 you missed the point completly and i think theramore would argue about that
Yeah they killed him off in horrible fashion too. They tried the GOT angle an killed off loved characters in horrible ways. Big mistake.
I've seen 3 corrupted ashbringers in the wild in my 14 years of playing. It seriously makes me stand there in awe when I saw them every time.
Iv seen 2 others added them to my friends list. I have one as well on my pally but often mog it on dual wielding warriors. People constantly whisper or come up and kneel in front of me. Iv lost perspective of how rare it is cause i saw it daily. But damn its hard to not mog it all the time.
Those whispers from the Corrupted Ashbringer are creepy af.
Nice job, Blizzard.
Having so much hidden stuff is what made vanilla awesome. Having weapons trigger secret events is awesome
Data miners destroyed this.
@@FNCMontragor I agree on that. Although it seems like no special items exist anymore. Normalized
@@onkelberra3166 what about knaifu :3
Darkest Dungeon music +Corrupted Ashbringer Perfect Match
That DBZ edit was pure perfection .
It was so long ago when I first heard about this weapon and saw it in game. I barely knew what it was at the time, just some cool sword that only the best players could get. But one thing I did know was that it was inspiring to see someone have it in their hands...like coming across some sort of mysterious superhero you might see once in passing, only to part ways forever.
It's really hard to describe how special weapons like this were back in those days. Almost nothing was handed to you, you had to work for any item that mattered. And the items that mattered most stood out from the rest, just like this one. Epics were really special back then, but this one with its incredible appearance from such an insanely difficult boss at the time, on top of its built-in story mechanics and the bug that let you kill players on your own faction...there will never be anything like it again.
The fact that it's gone forever for 99.9% of the player base makes it even more cool, even to this day. It's a symbol of one of the best times in this game, a symbol of everything we take for granted now, and a symbol of what really once made WoW a game truly worth playing.
Sorry for nerding out a bit here, lol. I just miss the old days. Thank you for this vid MadSeason, you have become one of my favorite content creators for WoW. Easy sub. :)
god damn.. back in the days when weapons with names actually meant sth.. whispering to you.. just awesome. just think of being the first one to equip it and freaking out about that.. back in the days there werent dataminers looking for cool upcoming stuff all the time
Interesting fact those Corrupt Ashbringer Quotes can be heard from the weapon in the hands of Highlord Mograine in the Death Knight Starter area until after the sword is purified by being thrown to Tirion Fordring and then cleansed into it's true holy state.
I have one on my Paladin, quite use to it, but still get people whispering me on mass daily to stop and take a SS. Feels nice, and I enjoy having such a iconic item to show for my 15 years of WoW.
To think Patrick The Pure's weapon was referenced in this game.
It's always nice to see real life heroes celebrated and remembered like this.
I still am slack jawed that some people have that appearance in their collection. It’s few a far between, but when I see a character with that Tmogged over their weapon, I have to admit I’m jealous. So yea, definitely a badge of honor and praise to those who managed to get the Corrupted version and have it in their collection to this day
I wish there was more stuff like that in modern WoW. Legendary weapons, long and challenging quest lines.. Today everything is just too random, too generic, too boring. Blizzard tries so hard to maintain the balance that they forget, that it is unbalanced things that made the game so much fun.
Thats crazy, Destiny 2 is going through the opposite, people miss the random exciting drops now that 95% of is through quest chains.
Madseason I highly urge everyone to give Tales of the Past 3 from Martin Falch a watch. Absolutely mindblowing machinima that will still seem very high quality as of today.
If you all like the story of the Ashbringer (and can stand Anime tropes/enjoy them) I'd highly recommend checking out the machinima "Tales of the past". The first part didn't age well at all, the 2nd's a good bit better, but the 3rd is - especially for the time - absolutely magnificent and a fun spin on a self-insert "What if" story on WoW Lore. It's 90 minutes long and wholly made by one guy and a few friends who only really helped with voicestuff IIRC and it took the guy a whole year to make.
Whenever I think of the Ashbringer, that Machinima comes to my mind, and the final fight of it is insanely well animated, if you can get into how ludicrous it is.
one of the most atmospheric WoW Video Creators on UA-cam!
I obtained Atiesh during TBC on my mage but have had Ashbring since vanilla on my paladin - the fact it has so much more actual, in-game (interactable) history than the staff makes it way more special to me at least, plus obviously being able to transmog one and not the other nowadays is a big deal. Great video!
I have the original ca on my pally, constantly mog it onto sets or other toons with dual wield. My only regret was i didnt get an atiesh, nerubian slavemaker, or that awsome tank shield with the glowing faces. With the CA you begin to lose perspective on how rare it is cause you see it daily. Did you also have people coming up to you and kneeling or whispering about it? Felt like a wow celeb.
Dude, your videos are so perfect. You played a large part in getting me to love Warcraft in a whole new way, and the effort you put in is truly appreciated.
That intro alone melts my troubles away. Never stop doing these, you legend.
I’ve been waiting on you to do this video forever! You’re the best!
it was ... amazing . i love blizz lore but since i was not here in classic i still have a lot to learn . You're great MadSeason, keep it up !
your music selection plucks on my heartstrings, as always
man you just keep getting better and better at this.
i had no idea about all that background story i started playing during the mid end of BC i never gave it too much thoughts, thanks for sharing and editing this video in a very professional way.
FINALLY been waiting for this for ages
I saw the corrupted Ashbringer dropping once in a farewell Naxx Raid end of TBC. What happpend? A Hunter opened the Chest first and received all items including he corrupted Ashbringer. Still a story to entertain the /2 on Tirion EU
The cinematography in this video is amazing, keep it up
i love your channel, its just so wholesome. just a guy who loves a game
WoW with Darkest Dungeon hamlet music - awesome!
That SSJ twist was very much appreciated. Great vids man
ARTHAS!!1 caught me off guard lol
only ever saw one corrupted ashbringer back in the day, it was on a hunter, for real, a freaking hunter.
You sir, deserve every single subscriber you have. Keep up the good work. Your style of presenting stuff is easy to take in.
There was a paladin on the Scarlet Crusade server way back in the day who had the Corrupted Ashbringer. the only one I've ever seen in the wild
I remember seeing one of these years ago in the wild. Been years since I've played at this point but weapons like this leave an impression
I started playing Darkest Dungeon not long ago and immediately recognized the Hamlet theme.
Good music with good content for the win.
Nice, haven't seen your videos in my feed for a while. Good to see you back.
Yeah had to put UA-cam on the backburner for a bit while I sort out some things. Still working it out but hopefully back Soon™
Love your videos, this was a good one!
I so love the mograine legacy, I even have the comic
In Vanilla WoW, The Ashbringer was every Paladin's holy grail. When Legion handed them out, every Paladin became Grumpy Cat.
Man I can't wait to play WoW again I'm getting so psyched up for it watching all these videos! I'm an old wow player/veteran if you will from the beginning up till 2010 when I stopped playing. I wanna play again now these videos got me excited about the game again lol.
I have been waiting this for an year!
THIS WAS A VERY WELL DONE VIDEO KEEP UP THE GOODS BRUV
What a splendid video!
I still wear mine in mogs with a sense of pride. Created many mogs around it and people constantly come up and kneel. You feel like a celebrity walking around with this thing. This is still nostalgic as hell for me.
I am so happy for having this
Came from work seeing that Azeroth Arsenal was updated,if may I say this weapon deserves top spot in it!
Love the DD soundtrack, brings back memories :D
I honestly love your channel and content! You're the only WoW UA-camr I watch thank you, my friend.
Blizzard was policing fun even back in this expansion lol.
I was waiting for this so long...
I've only ever seen two on live! I gave both the fellas a few thousand gold for working it into their tmogs, they looked so awesome. Honestly one of my favorite interactions I've had.
I like to gift stuff to players that impress me, usually with classic, unobtainable items. I figure I've got a lot of gold and whatnot that's going to waste otherwise, y'know?
Got a scourge tabard (i think it was) and 2 ZG rogue parts xD the tabard is the black one with white sun
Best part is you probably gave gold to them and they bought the account. Nobody who raided naxx in vanilla still plays.
Amazing video! Srsly! :D I am so hyped for classic wow and can't wait until we finally will be able to explore the old azeroth again!
One of my favorite moments of all of my wow time was being taken through SM by someone with this sword
Those early RP moments are great. I always liked those super over-the-top emotes they'd do while talking.
Edit: You may have noticed I had a small lore error. I said that KT corrupted Renault, when it was actually Balnazzar(you may remember him as the final boss of Stratholme human side, posing as Dathrohan). Just thought that was worth clearing up.
As for the SM event, I only showed glimpses since it's quite lengthy. You should check out the full scenes here: ua-cam.com/video/QViNP4cnPyM/v-deo.html or here: ua-cam.com/video/_y1sKfhBppQ/v-deo.html
Next video is a big project, so it may be a couple of weeks before we speak again! Take care
Oh
Oh
This video gives me feelings, I had this weapon and our guild beat KT literally once. This video is making me FEEL NOSTALGIA
Hi MadSeason, I‘m glad to say that I found my way back to WoW. I set some goals that I want to reach in WoW and now it makes more fun again. This episode of Azeroth Arsenal is my favourite one for now. I‘m excited for more. 😁👍
That Darkest Dungeon Music... A nice choice.
A few weeks ago during an incursion on Zuldazar, I passed by a fury warrior that seemed to have his dual two-handers transmoged as it. Looked really neat.
I've been waiting for this
hahaha the ssj effect :D
In MoP, I played on Illidan server. When tmog was introduced , there was a guild I can't remember the name would charge gold for plate users to obtain the corrupted ashbringer tmog. A 2h would drop given the 2 hour trade timer, the ashbringer wielder would port to shrine and tmog the new weapon to ashbringer then trade it to the purchaser. After that, blizzard hotfixed tmog to bind items to character upon tmog. RIP
Did you really made tirion a super sayian?? That really cracked me up.
I was one of the lucky ones, during Vanilla (Taltos, guild Inner Sanctum, on the server Silvermoon EU). MadSeason is every bit right in saying how awesome it felt equipping and using this weapon, back in the day! It was a shame Might of Menethil was the high-end 2hander to get, all I wanted was to keep using Corrupted Ashbringer until something from The Burning Crusade could eventually trump it :)
Back when I started and was in front of the old Orgrimmar in 2008/2009, I saw somebody with this weapond achievement. It was so epic, that I had to look it up on the internet, because it was so badass.
I was taking a mythic plus and there was a fury warrior with this and full vanilla gear tmoged and absolutely destroyed the meters. Unique experience
I wonder if Blizzard may consider releasing their old planned content on the Vanilla Servers, once the content is running dry after 1.12, like Vanilla Karazhan or the Ashbringer quest chain.
Even though i'm aware it's highly unlikely, since most of those plans were scrapped for a reason. Still though...
I never knew this was a weapon back in the day. I can’t wait to specifically role a warrior and work towards this
yeees I was so excited for this one! :D
Hearing MadSeason voices is a bliss
Anyone just listen to Madseason and play WoW/tab back and forth? Love this dude so much!!
I've only seen 1 person with this. Back in cata, some random dwarf in sw ran by me near stackades. He had it xmogs over his current wep. I followed him until her logged, roughly 15 mins. Just creeping, being in awe. Never forgot that
What server?
As one of the few ppl who has this in game, I greatly enjoyed this vid :D
Rarely i see some players with this amazing weapon....mostly combined with a full t3 set and a scarab lord title. Some ancient creatures are still alive
the best monotone voice around. always.
Such memories.
7:25 that camera movement is very nice
I love the weapon just for the whispers to be honest.
Its just such a nice creepy vibe for this weapon, and it fits the lore perfectly.
Just like the whispers you hear in Naxx itself from the tortured souls. Creepy, but so fitting.
Nice video
I was hoping for a mention of "Dustbringer - the Blade of the Scarlet Landlord" though! Quite a big tease given to players after Ashbringer's removal in WotLK...
I just love the ssj3 theme lol Madseason is a man of culture
Season thank you for this video and Darkest Dungeon it´s awesome with this video about Ashbringer.
Truly thought this was going to be right before classic
The Darkest Dungeon ost is perfect
I've seen it 3 times. I had it drop once in my old naxx40 during Vanilla, and I saw it twice in TBC. My new Guild leader had one, and then again few months later just before WOTLK hit.
"I... was... once... called... Ashbringer"
Nice video! The only fact I knew about it that's interesting is that if you enter Icecrown Citadel wearing it, all friendly npcs will turn hostile to you
*The edgy ashbringer*
Better known as “The ash bringer going through puberty”
Jor Doge its not a phase Mograine
Still sad that I wasn’t able to get this weapon back in the day. The fact that it whispered to you sold me on it completely.
It was truly one of the greatest mystery of the game
Me too, I saw it only once in all those years.
Great video! Such an iconic weapon :D Wish I'd been more into lore and stuff in TBC, maybe I would have attempted to get it :)
I actually saw a oringal corrupted ash bringer from a buyer in a heroic carry for gold of course but still huge moment everyone in the guild was happy to see it
I Unsubbed from WoW a couple months ago after a small debate with a customer support "mage" can't say names but I love watching and listening to your videos, on really slow days at work I pop in one headphone put your playlist on and slip away into the nostalgia land of old. Keep up the great work.
That’s why I love Classic...
