Yes there is a disease in this country called Musical Ignorance. I was a music teacher I should know. Whether it's classical music, country, pop, rock or jazz. The underfunding of the arts, regardless of the internet, is a major cause. You'll never see a weed gropwing in a High School Football stadium but music will always be cut first. Reactors inaccuratetly guessing when they have the information at their fingertips on the internet. But those who want to learn are the ones like Sarah. i have seen reactors grow over three years from not knowing anyone/anything to an amazing change in their lives musically, beyond the cocoon they were musically living in. A miracle in that regard. Sarah came to this already with some smarts, she's tops.

"Well, ain't no good ol' boy ever sung in Swahili. I think I'm outta here." The biggest crime, though, was that Aretha Franklin wasn't asked to sing. No excuse.

Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie. Dionne Warwick. Bruce Spingsteen. Huey Lewis. Bob Dylan. Paul Simon. Kenny Rogers. Harry Belafonte. The list is a long one. That’s for sure! I love this. Always have. Always will.
Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, Smokey Robinson wish he had gotten a chance to sing a part on his own. Sheila E. And others I recognize and it's upsetting 😡 me that I can't remember them. 5:09. Cindy Lauper's a tiny little thing, but she was almost 2 feet away from the mike and her vocal still cut through the background singers full volume..now that's some power. By the way, the record did help the Ethiopians a lot...emergency food, water, first-aid and supplies got to them very quickly. because of these fine musicians/people .
Most don't know but it was started by the recently Late Great Harry Belafonte. It was his idea. He is in the video too. Singing in the Chorus next to Dan Aykroyd
It was Harry Belafonte, singer and activist, who came up with this idea. In 1984 British and Irish musicians put out the single Do They Know It’s Christmas? to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia. He felt the top stars in America should be helping too. He pitched the idea the right people, got Lionel Ritchie and Quincy Jones on board, and the rest is history. Lionel and Michael wrote the song. There’s a great video on UA-cam about the making of We Are The World❤️
Your reaction is so sweet! We loved these talented folks for our whole generation, but to see you emotional about them in such a short time, makes for a great reaction, and a gift to us that originally gave them our hearts!
Someone else here might have already noted this, but it's well worth pointing out the idea for this fundraising song came from the legendary Harry Belafonte. He got Michael and Lionel to get the singers together... his role has been largely forgotten, and he took his humility to another level by relegating himself to back row chorus, even though he'd been a huge star before many of the others were ever heard of... great job, Sarah, as always, and thank you!
During the production of this, Ray Charles said that he had to use the bathroom. Without missing a beat, Stevie Wonder said, "I'll show you Ray." It was a real life "blind leading the blind moment." This song was written by Lionel Ritchie (first singer) and Michael Jackson. Every younger reactor says the same thing when Bruce Springsteen starts singing, "Who is that?" This will answer most of your questions: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Are_the_World
1985: artists in UK, Canada and US each released songs with groups singing for famine relief in Ethiopia. During the Live Aid concert broadcast live from Philiadelphia and London I took fund raising calls at a phone bank in Toronto.
I love your reaction!! 46 famous singers came together for this!!! FORTY SIX!!!! Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote this song once night before it was recorded!! Quincy Jones directed it. ALL 46 singers were already famous and had their own number one hits when they came together to do this. AND - NONE of these singers were paid. They did this FOR FREE!!!!! From the goodness of their hearts to help others!!! This song was recorded in ONE NIGHT and ALL of the money went to Africa!!! Except 10% was given to the homeless in America. ALL the rest of the money went to Africa!!! Please go to Wikipedia and read ALL of THE DETAILS of how truly magnificent this is. Wikipedia lists all 46 artists plus the celebrities who were instrumentalists on this single, how many charts it topped, how many awards this song won, how much money it made etc! EPIC!!
I love your reaction. I watched this song again for the first time in years and it gave me all the same reactions. Chicken skin. Joy. Tears. Sadness. Happiness. Hope.
The best musical meetup of talents ever! this song was my heart as a child and still is to this day, I get tears every time i hear it, tears for the joy of people wanting to help and change for the better and tears for the pains of all whom suffer. Give Love, Know Love, Show Love and Grow Love.
This 1985 classic brought over 34+ of the top artists from the 60's, 70's & 80's for the sole purpose to raise money for Africa's worst famine! "We Are the World" topped music charts throughout the world and became the fastest-selling U.S. pop single in history. "We Are the World" was certified quadruple platinum, becoming the first single to be certified multi-platinum. Its awards include four Grammy Awards, one American Music Award, and a People's Choice. No one got paid!
Everything about this was amazing to see LIVE when i was young ... that TEAR from Bruce Springsteen that too few notice says a lot ... when u see it even watching this again and again and knowing the story behind the song .... a tear will come ...

This was inspired by a group of British musicians who did a song called Do They Know It's Christmas to raise money for famine relief. The live version of that song from the Live Aid concert in London, is one of the most powerful music vids on YT. Almost all the heavyweights of the UK singing and a soccer stadium full of folks going nuts. It's awesome.

According to Billboard with Turner’s death, just one month after the death of musician and activist Harry Belafonte - who was the main driving force behind “We Are the World” - 10 of the singers on the smash have passed on. The first to die was Waylon Jennings in 2002, followed by Ray Charles in 2004 and June Pointer of The Pointer Sisters in 2006. Michael Jackson, who co-wrote the song with Lionel Richie and was featured on the recording, died in 2009, followed by Al Jarreau in 2017, James Ingram in 2019 and Kenny Rogers in 2020. Rogers was managed in his 1980s heyday by Ken Kragen, who Belafonte enlisted to bring the vision to life. Kragen died in 2021. Anita Pointer of The Pointer Sisters died in December 2022, followed by Belafonte on April 25, and now Turner.
Your reaction made me weep… Thank you so much for this… These artists came together on the night the Grammy’s were being awarded: the only time they were all already in one place. They worked through the night to make it happen. This song meant so much to so many at the time. And it is more meaningful than ever… So glad you chose this one 🙏💕🙂
"The Greatest Night in Pop" documentary was released this year, 2024, about the creation of "We are the World" on Netflix. It's truely amazing how they did this song in one night after the Musica awards.
Everyone who participated in this video was a master of their craft. A collaboration of masters volunteering their time & talent to raise money to help fight a famine in Africa.
The amount of talent shown in this video is crazy. All are top notch artists from many different eras & genres of music. Don't think something like this will ever happen again. Sadly quite a few artists that are featured are no longer with us.
Sarah welcome to my world, I was 29 in 1985. World's been going down the toilet ever since, and sometimes it gets plugged lol. This is probably the greatest event in 20th century popular music history aside form the forst Woodstock... USA for Africa is where everyone came together to save the starving. When they broadcast this all over the world , the world was at peace for 7 minutes. This goes back to George Harrison's [formerly at the time of the Beatles, and Ringo played and sang at that concert too] famous Concert for Bangla Desh in 1971...there is a entire film of that you should watch, if only for yourself. George started all of this, he was the first one. When I am gone someday Sarah, say a prayer me and my fellow generation's members. We tried...

Michael brings the world together.
Joy. Tears. Sadness. Happiness. Hope.
Do you know how many albums have been sold with all these singers . Millions and millions . All that in this studio . AMAZING
You make me smile every time I watch your videos. God Bless you, Sarah. Have a great day!!
Just think about all the people in the video together and singing joyfully together. We NEED MORE
Sad our world has changed so much since that beautiful song.
Unfortunately, I think too many of us mistook cruise control for meaning autopilot in our modern course of history.
This song with all these amazing singers is the most powerful song ever! We the world need to come together again. GOD BLESS US
The best musical meetup of talents ever! this song was my heart as a child and still is to this day, I get tears every time i hear it, tears for the joy of people wanting to help and change for the better and tears for the pains of all whom suffer. Give Love, Know Love, Show Love and Grow Love.
Great reaction..
I love how Bob Dylan goes out of his way to sound like Bob Dylan 😅😅
🤣
Stevie Wonder coached him.
The greatest collaboration of Artists in History never to be repeated will go down for now and future generations its EPIC.
This is one of the most amazing songs ever produced
This song needs to be played across this planet, as we never needed it more.💝💫🙏💞
Everything about this was amazing to see LIVE when i was young ... that TEAR from Bruce Springsteen that too few notice says a lot ... when u see it even watching this again and again and knowing the story behind the song .... a tear will come ...

Respect to every star artist in this recording, to the commitment and collaboration and sacrifice each one made to make this recording possible. It's historical and loved world wide. The homework on this one is worth it. Wish the message would have changed us humans. ☮️

The greatest collection of singing talent ever assembled. There was a sign above the entrance to the studio. "Leave your ego at the door". It worked.
Thank you Michael and Lionel.Timeless inspiration forever presence. God bless.
Sarah, I adore your energy. The choices you make are glorious and nostalgic treasures....
The fact that you no most of the artists really says a lot about you 😊 this song is absolutely beautiful...I think we ALL need to hear this now more than ever. Love yall
The MOST UPLIFTING SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD! I AM HONORED that GOD ALLOWED to be ALIVE to BEAR WITNESS this BEAUTIFUL SONG!!! I REMEMBER it as if it was YESTERDAY!
Once again you remind me why I subscribed. Your enthusiasm is catchy. Thanks!!
This miracle happend right after the Grammy Awards. Quincy told everyone to leave your ego's at the door. This was for Africa, when the drought in the 80's where horrific.
American Music Awards
Steve Perry!!!
You said it all
Holy crap no one makes me smile the way you do when you love a song....❤😊
It was imazing at the time. All the greatest singers. Gathered together and made history.
I think today we need something like this made by worldwide artists. Something to rattle the whole world awake about fighting hate and ignorance.
Todays artists are terrible no talent compared to the 80s talent
@@IanJD71 does it have to be singers? Maybe today UA-camr or influencer can reach people if they would make some coordinated stuff. That's only one of many ideas.
Problem is a good bunch of them are pushing hate
Beautiful reaction to one of the most beautiful and important songs in the world ❤️🔥🔥🔥❤️
Loved all the singers, but the worlds of the song are enough to bring me, and thousands to their knees!!
Sarah. There is another song like this from Band Aid in UK called "Do They Know Its Christmas". I think you will also like it.
This brings back memories of a better era of all of us just trying to make us work! A 1st. of important well meaning efforts. The gang's all there! Yea world! "We are the world"! Let's make it work for all our sake.
These are truly the greatest people. Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Tina Turner and everyone else. To tears.❤ Sarah, we are waiting for new videos from you. With love.❤❤❤
Thank God that this performance, recorded 40 years ago, still evokes such real, genuine emotions. Thanks Sarah for reminding us of this ♥♥♥♥♥
Yes...
I'm old enough to remember when this song first came out and I still get goosebumps when I hear it
Your reaction made me weep… Thank you so much for this… These artists came together on the night the Grammy’s were being awarded: the only time they were all already in one place.
There are so many gems people were born after, you are in for a lot of treats.
Rip to the performers who have since passed on that participated in this great song. And of course to those who suffered in Africa at the time.
The best complication of the musicians that helped me grow up. I so love this.
The best singers x vocalist in one place = perfection
Amazing! All well known singers singing for a much needed cause. How on earth did they get this group to perform together.
Everyone who participated in this video was a master of their craft. A collaboration of masters volunteering their time & talent to raise money to help fight a famine in Africa.
And that, my dear, was the 80's.
Absolutely the best reaction about this theme! I love it! Greetings from Brazil.
Bless you!!! I have been there when this song came out and needed until today to realize that Bette Midler also was in it 😂😂😂
The amount of talent shown in this video is crazy. All are top notch artists from many different eras & genres of music. Don't think something like this will ever happen again. Sadly quite a few artists that are featured are no longer with us.
Stevie Wonder said if they didn't get it in one take then He and Ray Charles would be driving everybody home. 😂
We tried...
"I thought I was going to bust opené. Me too! Even more than usual! You have been gifted with Grace, Sarah. I'll be coming back to this most beautiful reaction every now and then.... loves from Paris!
Brings back memories. One of the best benefits in US musical history. ❤ The best of the best!
I haven't seen that video since it was on MTV when I was a teenager. What an amazing blessing it was to see it again for the first time through your eyes!! 😊 Much Love, Beautiful!! ❤
I like many others remember the fundraiser that this song was made for. It was an attempt to fight hunger in Africa, and you could get those shirts if you donated. It was amazing.
So impressed how many artists you recognized! ❤❤
Such sincere joy in your reaction. 😊
This is one of most important and beautiful recordings
Probably one of the only reactions out there who gave Paul Simon any sort of credit on this song! Good job :)
