Not a single one of those 47 ( or Dan Akroyd) got a single dime for making this song. They did it all for charity. I feel like today is artists wouldn't be able to take the time out of their busy schedule to get together for this so it wouldn't be able to be done together in one room like this song was the parts would have to be done separately if they could check their egos at the door and if they didn't expect to be paid. But I feel like it would never happen because modern artists would all want to much money and to be the biggest star in the group.

Yeah, Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen. Please react to some of his songs. So many unique, great, beautiful, emotional and masterpieces of songs that guy has blessed us with!
I was working in radio at the time this song was released. It was a huge deal. One of the things that has been largely forgotten since the release of this record is that every radio station in America -- regardless of format -- stopped and played this song at the same time. The record was embargoed from airplay, and when it popped, you could go up and down your radio dial and virtually every single station was playing it, all at once. What a debut! And then right about that same time, there was the "Hands Across America," where people from coast-to-coast stood in a long line, holding hands, to form a continuous chain of humanity from the Atlantic to the Pacific. A friend of mine and I were playing golf that day, and we broke our round short to go stand in that line on Highway 80 West in Arlington, Texas (in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex) just to say we were part of it. Those were pretty amazing times.
Weren't they though? It actually meant something then to be part of something that was in unity and love, instead now, we have so much unity in hate. If you try to even attempt to spread some love, you are labeled in a negative way. It's getting rough out there. For all those who still believe in humanity, stay strong. We live a world and society that makes us believe that loving everyone makes us weak minded and useless in society, but we are the ones that find the light in the dark. Don't ever forget that. We will always be different from the ones that choose to live in the darkness, but maybe, just maybe, we were not made to fit in, but to stand out. May your light shine through the darkness that everyone else sees around you. Don't let anyone take away your light in order for them to feel better about themselves.
You got that absolutely right, hatred, division, separatism. It'd be tough to replicate this today. There was an attempt in '94 for Haiti, but it didn't feel the same; didn't feel unified. The sign on the way in said "Leave Your Egos At The Door"; no one tried to outshine eachother, they just tried to do the song & service justice. Also, Quincy Jones is the MVP, here. His arrangement of solos, duets, and harmonies are what make this so incredible.
"We Are the World" is a charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. With sales in excess of 20 million copies, it is the eighth-bestselling physical single of all time.
I watched this live on TV. We taped it on our VCR and I watched it over and over again. I was about 7 or 8. I'm white and grew up in a mostly white suburb and was obsessed with Michael Jackson. I was rasied to not judge people based on race, sex or sexual orientation and that we were all equal. This was the message I was taught... Better times.
Probably the greatest (most talented) vocals collaboration ever. Every single vocalist here has put out music worth reacting to. Unfortunately, you don't know who they all are. You won't be disappointed if you were to do some research. Looking forward to your reactions.
I was born in 1979 and our whole class sang this at one time,,,,, I was Cindy Lauper, white chic with the loud voice, and there was no bias................ the world is going crazy but this brings me back to when I was young and life was simple.... not from famine but everybody hating while people.
A few dozen of the most talented singers on the planet combining their gifts to help some people who really needed it at the time. It should happen more often.
No!!! It shouldn't ever have to happen again! People in Africa were dying for reasons that shouldn't be a part of this world! It undoubtedly will always be happening somewhere. But, for you to wish it to happen, is disgraceful.
The man that came in at the 5:00 minute mark on your reaction video is Steve Perry from Journey. That band made some of the best pop music from the end of the 70’s into the 80’s. Check out Faithfully and Don’t Stop Believing (live from Houston ‘81). You will NOT be disappointed. Keep krankin’ reactions. You make a difference.
This was straight magic, all egos were checked at the door and they sang for a good cause. There were many big names that didn't get a solo and had no problem being in the background such as Harry Belafonte, Smokey Robinson, Lindsey Buckingham, Better Midler, June Pointer (the Pointer sisters) and more. It still brings tears to my eyes, its too bad, we as a nation do not have this unity right now.
To add a bit; The USA project was initiated by Harry Belafonte. He & Ken Kragen (talent manager, activist & fundraiser) were in charge. They chose Quincy to direct & produce, chose MJ & Lionel to write it, obtained the talent, facilities, etc. Harry definitely could have had a solo, but I imagine he wanted to showcase the popular artists of the day, to raise the most money.
Today's artist aren't remotely as talented as the legends in this song. Modern music artist simply aren't capable of replicating anything this beautiful
So many legends, from so many different genres. You had rock, folk, R&B/Motown, country, pop... And some of the greatest and most unique voices in the industry all blending together yet retaining their individual sound and style.
The Fun part about watching this is trying to Identify all the Singers, and TRUE 80's Connoisseurs can even Identify the Choir Members that didn't get a spotlight. There was even a GHOSTBUSTER in there!
We Are the World" opens with Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, and Billy Joel singing the first verse. Michael Jackson and Diana Ross follow, completing the first chorus together. Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, and Al Jarreau sing the second verse, before Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, and Daryl Hall go through the second chorus.Co-writer Jackson, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, and Kim Carnes follow with the song's bridge. We Are the World" concludes with Bob Dylan and Ray Charles singing a full chorus, Wonder and Springsteen duetting, and ad libs from Charles and Ingram.
This generation doesn't have the talent to do something like this This is the best of the best you have Country - Rock - folk -JAZZ BLUES- SOUL- POP there are artists from the 60s 70s 80s in one room
Your energy and unbiased ear reviewing this song along with your interest to know who everyone is (especially Bruce Springsteen and James Ingram)alone equals instant subscriber and fan. And your attitude and how you moved with the song equals =Sexy Lady.
My favourite parts are Springsteen and Wonder duetting together and James Ingram’s last chorus. The part were he says “so let’s start giving” always gives me chills.
As a man who was young when this came out, I can say this song was great to open the new year with good vibes. But after 30 years I wish it hit the same to people out there 💯💓
USA for Africa We Are The World 🌎 the song was recorded on January of 1985 and released on March of 1985 my opinion this is one of the greatest songs of all time this song 🎵 is still relevant even till this day in #2023
You did well identifying artists. 10:10 near the end is James Ingram.😃Experiencing this in real time back then was amazing. ❤Watch the documentary Making of for this - inspiring!
I was in high school when this song came out. It was magical and legendary, and your reaction made me feel like I was watching this with fresh eyes. The talent in this room was off the chart! Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder doing a duet, Tina Turner and Billy Joel sharing the same mike. The 1980s was an awesome time for music.
Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen are one of the most unlikely pairing, but the contrast in their voices was awe inspiring. And l can never get enough of Ray Charles what a treasure he is. Another pairing l loved was Dion Warwick and Willie Nelson. Need to check out Willie and Ray singing Seven Spanish Angels live. Thanks for your reaction.
This song takes me back to the sweltering heat of 1985, I would hear this song being played on the intercom speaker system at the local swimming pool or in the comfort of my air conditioned apartment, watching this video being played on MTv. The guy you reacted to, wanting to know.. (" Whose That ??? ") That was Bruce Springsteen.
Hi Ashley great to view your reaction. The raspy voice is none other than 'The Boss' Bruce Springsteen. Worth reacting to him and the E Street Band. You can't beat Clarence Carter on the saxophone, the greatest exponent I have ever seen! 🙂
Ashley, you are so young, beautiful and innocent. I say that with the kindest of respect. I loved watching your reaction as much as enjoyed watching We Are The World live along with the rest of the world back in 1985. Of course I am from a different generation. It is adorable that you have no idea who many of the artists are. They were the tops in their field at the time. You should look up information about the recording, and who the artist were. I think you will be surprised that you have probably heard a lot of their music, if you had ever listened to classic rock. These were wonderful times back then when we did not have so many of the struggles that the world is experiencing now. I believe my generation in many ways were the founders so to speak of we want all people, from all walks of life, from all over the world to be considered as one. One people no matter of race, creed, religious beliefs, and so on. They were good times, and I am so happy to watch you experience such a monumental time in my generations history. Peace and love my friend.
Thanks for appreciating the best Collab of artistes of the70s, 89s even 60 - Ray Charles. It was a hit when were young adults in the 80s. Much thanks for appreciating good music spreading this to your generation!
Thing most people don't know is that the artists were asked to join in at an award show so this was started around 1am and didn't finish till after 6am. No one was paid, they volunteered their time. Unfortunately half of the artists here have passed away.
Ashkey "Listen" - A gigantic song written by Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson, directed by the equally legendary Quincy Jones. Bringing all these stars and legends together is a significant achievement. As far as I know, after the release more than 25 million dollars were raised and donated to Africa. A song that will last forever!
Almost all of these featured Artists were iconic in their day..please check out Bruce Springsteen, (the one that came in hard), Steve Perry from Journey, and Hall and Oates (Blue eyed soul). They have so many good ass songs. You'll appreciate this way more after you do.
Okay . . . Love it when you say "this is really old" . . . I'm tryin' not to take that personally . . . but this could never be reproduced. Another time, absolute talents that will never again exist. Magical moments like this are one time events!
Another song to check out that was for a certain cause was the song "That's What Friends Are For" by Dionne Warwick ft. Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Gladys Knight. If you've never heard this song before, you definitely will not be disappointed.
This was a once in a life time room full of legends singing their hearts out for a great cause. Sad thing I’d I don’t think anyone could ever top this performance with that many iconic legends with extremely great vocals. I loved your reaction thank you
Ms. Ashley, I love your energy when listening to old school music. I see the tears almost falling from your eyes. We are the world is a phenomenonal piece. You can watch the making of this here on youtube..enjoy❤
Hey baby girl 🙂 I told you so much fire 🔥🔥 Artist that just bring it ! The more you go back like the 60 especially raw lyrics no auto tune with Great writing that’s kinda lost in today’s music! Plz hopefully you can do reaction of Tom jones 1967 I’m never falling in love again! The voice is so powerful and raw emotions when he’s singing! Most woman are brought to tears so emotional! Love the reactions keep up the great music 🔥
Great reaction to an iconic and historic song! This was played continuously when it came out. Getting all those incredible artists together to perform this song was an amazing feat by Quincy Jones - and the arrangement of the musicians. Some songs for the lead artists in the video you weren't familiar with. Perhaps future reactions... • Paul Simon 0:42 (Simon & Garfunkel + Solo) - Sound of Silence (+ great cover by Disturbed), Scarborough Fair, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Mrs. Robinson, Kodachrome, You Can Call Me Al • Kenny Rogers 0:54 - Lady (collab w/ Lionel Richie), The Gambler, She Believes in Me • James Ingram 0:59 - Just Once , One Hundred Ways • Tina Turner 1:05 - What’s Love Got To Do With It • Billy Joel 1:12 - Piano Man, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, It’s Only Rock n Roll to Me, Uptown Girl, You May Be Right, Miami 2017, You’re My Home , Captain Jack, Just the Way You Are, She's Always a Woman to Me, Summer Highland Falls, Say Goodbye to Hollywood - many more • Dionne Warwick 1:48 - That’s What Friends Are For, I’ll Never Fall in Love Again • Willie Nelson 2:02 - Always On My Mind • Bruce Springsteen 2:14 - Born to Run, Thunder Road, 10th Ave Freeze Out, Born in the USA, Hungry Heart, Dancing in the Dark - many more • Kenny Loggins 2:21 - Danger Zone, Footloose, This is It, I’m Alright • Steve Perry 2:27 - (Journey) - Who’s Crying Now, Mother / Father, Don’t Stop Believing, Stone in Love, Send Her My Love, Open Arms, Faithfully, Girl Can’t Help It , Only the Young, Ask the Lonely - many more • Daryl Hall 2:35 (Hall & Oates) - Sara Smile, She’s Gone, Maneater, One on One • Huey Lewis 2:48 - If This is It, Do You Believe in Love, Heart & Soul, The Power of Love • Cyndi Lauper 2:53 - Time After Time, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun • Kim Carnes 3:01 - Bette Davis Eyes, Flashdance • Bob Dylan 3:48 - Like a Rolling Stone, Mr. Tambourine Man
I still get goosebumps whenever I hear this. And while I know you don't know all the artists, rest assured every single one of them is a superstar. In order of appearance, they are: Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen (the one you asked about), Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles. The chorus included these artists (alphabetically): Dan Aykroyd, Harry Belavonte, Lindsey Buckingham, Mario Cipollina (of Huey Lewis & the News), Johnny Colla (of Huey Lewis & the News), Sheila E., Bob Geldof, Bill Gibson (of Huey Lewis & the News), Chris Hayes (of Huey Llewis & the News), Sean Hopper (of Huey Lewis & the News), Jackie Jackson, La Toya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tito Jackson, Waylon Jennings, Bette Midler, John Oates, Jeffrey Osborne, Anita, June and Ruth Pointer (the Pointer Sisters), Smokey Robinson. The project was produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson, and the group was conducted by Quincy Jones. Interestingly, 25 years later, an updated version of the song with a whole new batch of artists was done to raise money for Haiti, and that version is quite remarkable as well. Like the original, it includes a wide array of diverse stars from the music world, and even expands to include a verse done in rap. Any time you can get both rap and Tony Bennett all in one song, it's a must-listen. ua-cam.com/video/S0NfzmgNvSA/v-deo.html
That man is Bruce Springsteen. The Boss👍 . Love your reaction to this once in a lifetime happening. I was 24 when this came out and I remember when it premiered on MTV😀 Great times in the 80s❤
10:11 James Ingram...one of the most criminally underrated vocalists of all time. Also, the brilliant vocal pairings in this song are all the proof we need that Quincy Jones was doing exactly what God put him on this earth to do.
The sheer amount of talent in this is staggering. You should watch the behind the scenes video. It is amazing. I've seen a few of these reaction videos and anyone who does not know who Bruce Springsteen is all say, "WHO IS THAT?" 😀
The Making Of video puts me in awe of the stamina of these artists. So many of them coming straight from an awards show; others flying in just to make this video. Music they've neither seen nor heard til they got in the studio. Michael tirelessly demo singing parts of it til his peers get the melody straight. Consummate professionals, masters of their craft, putting conviction into their voices!
You got it sister! This song should be a daily vitamin for everyone to hear first thing in the morning and the world would change overnight to a more peaceful, loving place. It is changing anyway. 🌈🔥💕 Wishing you a blessed New Year and keep diving in to each one of those individual artists till you recognize their voice right away. Every one of them is a legend. The way you put them together like instruments in an orchestra is to hire the master producer, arranger, musician and writer, Quincy Jones who is directing it all. 💕
Springsteen's born in the USA album came out when I was in high school and it still ranks number 1 on my all time favourite albums , followed by the 3rd guy Paul Simon's Graceland , both albums worth checking out
Hey beautiful! I know you did this a year ago, but I wanted you to know Netflix just released the making of this video. Definitely worth a watch. After seeing it last night, I am all about watching reactions to this song. I absolutely LOVE your smiling face and positive attitude! You go girl!
What kills me about almost every reaction I’ve seen is no one ever says a word about the lyrical genius Bob Dylan ! The greatest songwriter in the history of music
One night they did this in one night!!!!! Quincy Jones put out the call and they came. See the documentary about this video. Thats a choir in heaven OGEE 58
That man is the one and only Bruce Springsteen
Yes he was amazing!!!

“Even though we’re all so different we can come together as one.” Best explanation I’ve ever heard of this song.

@@wnsafford1854 kinda missed my point, the fact that they all put egos aside for a good cause, that was the magic.
Loved your reaction to this song. That room was filled with Legends.
Today's artist aren't remotely as talented as the legends in this song. Modern music artist simply aren't capable of replicating anything this beautiful
When that song came out, I was about 10. And til this day, instant goosebumps. One of the most perfect songs ever created.
There was even a GHOSTBUSTER in there!
oh I love reactors when The Boss hits the mic!!
This generation doesn't have the talent to do something like this
This is the best of the best you have
Country - Rock - folk -JAZZ BLUES- SOUL- POP
there are artists from the 60s 70s 80s in one room
I remember when this came out. I thought it was the greatest thing I'd heard.
Your energy and unbiased ear reviewing this song along with your interest to know who everyone is (especially Bruce Springsteen and James Ingram)alone equals instant subscriber and fan. And your attitude and how you moved with the song equals =Sexy Lady.
This was a beautiful collaboration; still feels me with hope today!!!!
My favourite parts are Springsteen and Wonder duetting together and James Ingram’s last chorus. The part were he says “so let’s start giving” always gives me chills.
As a man who was young when this came out, I can say this song was great to open the new year with good vibes. But after 30 years I wish it hit the same to people out there 💯💓
that one you didnt recognize is one of bigest legends in rock history. Mister Bruce Springsteen :)
USA for Africa We Are The World 🌎 the song was recorded on January of 1985 and released on March of 1985 my opinion this is one of the greatest songs of all time this song 🎵 is still relevant even till this day in #2023
Je pense également que c’est une des plus grandes chansons de tous les temps.
Elle fait parti de mon Top5.
✊🏼🙏🏼❤️
The all star choir of all time ! Wow!!
I think you meant Clarence Clemmons - (RIP) His nephew now plays sax in the E-Street Band
@@markchapel6694 Cheers Mark for the correction, completely correct 🙂
@@patchadams9282 - - what do you think her reaction would be to Clarence Carter's "Strokin' "? 🙃
There are hundreds of reactions to this out there. Even with you not knowing a lot of these singers, your reaction is the Best. Period.
Such fun watching the joy on your face. I’ll even overlook the fact that you didn’t recognize Bruce Springsteen haha
Thanks for appreciating the best Collab of artistes of the70s, 89s even 60 - Ray Charles. It was a hit when were young adults in the 80s. Much thanks for appreciating good music spreading this to your generation!
These are some of the artists of the 80's...80's had the best must point blank...you should look at list of all of them and do some of their songs
Your smile made it better ❤ legendary song 😢❤
One of the greatest charitable collaborations of all time. Thanks for your reaction.
Can't not believe that this song & music video of WE ARE THE WORLD 🌏will be 38 Years old in March of this year ❤💯
Haha.. "Who is thaaat.. ?".. Sooo much skills and talent in this video.. (..and yes.. it is The Boss .. :D :D )
Okay . .
I doubt there will ever be another collection of artists like this again.
I remember watching this live! Loved it but didn’t really know the talent till I was older :)
I can never hold back my tears when the Ray Charles passages come on
This was a once in a life time room full of legends singing their hearts out for a great cause. Sad thing I’d I don’t think anyone could ever top this performance with that many iconic legends with extremely great vocals. I loved your reaction thank you
The golden years of music 🎵🎶❤
Bruce and Stevie's duet will forever be the best part about this song!
You have an absolutely beautiful smile you light up the room when you do that❤
Simply the best legends ever the cream of the cream in the history of USA music. All of them.
To this day it amazes me to see Dan Aykroyd among these fine artists 7:29
The more you go back like the 60 especially raw lyrics no auto tune with
Great writing that’s kinda lost in today’s music!

I still get goosebumps whenever I hear this. And while I know you don't know all the artists, rest assured every single one of them is a superstar. In order of appearance, they are:
Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen (the one you asked about), Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles.
The Best of the Best!
they'll never be a song or video like this ever again with so many amazing iconic musician's in one place
Springsteen's born in the USA album came out when I was in high school and it still ranks number 1 on my all time favourite albums , followed by the 3rd guy Paul Simon's Graceland , both albums worth checking out
Pure joy and love ❤️ 😊 we need to hear this
Hey beautiful! I know you did this a year ago, but I wanted you to know Netflix just released the making of this video. Definitely worth a watch. After seeing it last night, I am all about watching reactions to this song. I absolutely LOVE your smiling face and positive attitude! You go girl!
The GOAT choir!
Cindy Lauper and Kim Carnes Two of best female Singer ever.
The Best of the Best!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for your sweet beautiful reaction of this beautiful song that we need today.
What kills me about almost every reaction I’ve seen is no one ever says a word about the lyrical genius Bob Dylan ! The greatest songwriter in the history of music
If you haven't, check out Band Aid "Do They Know it's Christmas" That song started the whole aid to Ethiopia.
It's the BOSS.. Bruce with Stevie ..this song is just so amazing... love
One night they did this in one night!!!!! Quincy Jones put out the call and they came. See the documentary about this video.
Thats a choir in heaven
