During the 14 years of my service in the Army, I was always proud to be serving and loved this song. But I can actually honestly say that only after I separated service did I start crying every time I heard this play….. Such a powerful way our country was formed and such a sad way that our current administration is destroying it….

So many other countries have questioned why we fly our flag everywhere and are so patriotic. In the big picture, we are the babies on the block and have achieved what was said couldn’t be done. I come from generations of servicemen. Thank you all and your families sacrifice as well. I pray we survive this current government who is using the very laws that were fought so hard to give them the right to be free and yet now seem bent on her destruction. Please pray for our country! Long may our banner yet wave.

Our country is, sadly, exactly what it was established to be. It is a place for men who were disregarded in their own homeland to make money and be elevated above others, any others, at any cost. We have no real culture to help people make life decisions and still make money without regard for human life.

Her heart is in the right place but she's ignorant. Most Americans don't even know that Francis Scott Key was a dedicated bigot. As district attorney for Washington d.c. he openly bragged that he would never prosecute a white person for any crime committed against a black person and that included rape and murder.
Francis Scott Key was a descendant of a long line of slave plantation owners. He himself was a slave plantation owner.
It seems everyone ignores the third verse of the national anthem for good reason. They don't want you to see that it's actually a very racist song and the reason it was picked as the national anthem.
Look at the third verse. The song brags that slaves have nowhere to hide and are afraid to run away. The song threatens any slave that resists with the Gloom of the grave.
The song is a slap in the face to ever African-American whose ancestors were slaves. America the Beautiful would be a much better representation.

When you teach it in school should they tell the students that Francis Scott Key was a a descendant of and himself a slave plantation owner? Should Americans examine the third verse which brags about slavery. The song proclaims that, "Slaves Have Nowhere To Hide and Are Afraid To Run Away". The song threatens any slave that resists with, " The Gloom Of The Grave".
African Americans should realize the song takes the opportunity to insult their ancestors.
Francis Scott Key served as the District Attorney for Washington DC. He bragged that he would never prosecutor a white person for a crime committed against a black person. That included rape and murder. There were free black people in Washington DC but that's not Freedom when you have to be worried about being raped or murdered and there would be no consequences.
Francis Scott Key's history and the insult he included directed at African Americans was the reason this song was selected.

Thank you for all you do. It lifts my heart to see a young woman finding true history that is no longer taught in schools. Please keep doing what you are doing ❤
