OH YEAH ...that is epic !!! The soloists in order were : Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles
The Choir behind them : Dan Aykroyd, Harry Belafonte, Lindsey Buckingham, Mario Cipollina, Johnny Colla, Sheila E., Bob Geldof, Bill Gibson, Chris Hayes, Sean Hopper, Jackie Jackson, La Toya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tito Jackson, Waylon Jennings, Bette Midler, John Oates, Jeffrey Osborne, Anita Pointer, June Pointer, Ruth Pointer, Smokey Robinson.

    • @ruthlafler5622

Huey Lewis said his solo was supposed to be for Prince, but he backed out at the last minute. So they basically looked around, spotted him, and said, hey, Huey, come do this.
Even in a room of great singers, the clarity and easy power of Steve Perry's voice stands out.

I'm in my 40s now. I was in primary school in Ireland when that song came out first in the 1980s. We saved every penny we had to send to Africa that Christmas. The whole world came together to help the famine in Africa. It was really bad in Africa. Every single school and college raised money also. We sold milk, we sold toys, we made cakes, we did unimaginable things to get money. It brings back some memories to me. Sad and good , I know all those artists. Bob geldof started that movement.

You were thinking of Live Aid which was simulcast in the US and England and I saw it when I was a kid. I mostly remember Madonna, Billy Ocean, and Queen. This single was to raise money for the same cause. England had their single and so did Canada and metal singers put one out, too. Here's their song: ua-cam.com/video/f6MgSXPEui8/v-deo.html The communist Ethiopian government let a million people starve to death and Bob Geldof got to work and started creating a solution. Harry Belafonte heard what was going on and started pushing for the US to get involved with the solution, too.

    Awesome 👍
So great to see youth being introduced to what we oldies grew up with
Band-Aid, Live-Aid and this song all created a world wide phenomenon and 2 Christmas anthems
It wasn't just the songs or the music! It was the feeling at that time! In the 80's there was this overwhelming feeling of everyone loving everyone and coming together. It was a special time to live
    Great reaction bro ✌️
PS. Can't believe you didn't know Bob Dylan 😅

Yep. Wouldn't trade getting to be young in the 80s for all the tech and social media of today. Especially social media. I had friends in real life.

Steve Perry deserved a longer solo. He made a song for this album too. There's a video of the making of this music video and song.

When I was a boy and this came out I just accepted it for what it was but later on when I started researching the history of different record companies I realized that the reason why this happened was all these artists were Columbia Records people Or people who were managed by people who managed Columbia Records artist ha ha... It helps you understand why certain people were not in this song right ha ha ha....

There are so many different legends in this video It's unreal. Across all genres. No egos. Just really coming together for the people in Africa to get clean drinking water. Something that everyone else takes for granted. This is just awesome to a degree that is unheard of now.

Since you're not familiar with some of those who were singing in this song, let me give you some numbers which may help. Here are the rough number of records each soloing singer in this song has actually sold...
Lionel Ritchie - 100,000,000+ records sold
Stevie Wonder - 100,000,000+ records sold
Paul Simon - 7,000,000+ records sold
Kenny Rogers - 120,000,000+ records sold
James Ingram - 1,000,000+ records sold
Tina Turner - 100,000,000+ records sold
Billy Joel - 150,000,000+ records sold
Michael Jackson - 1,000,000,000+ records sold (yes, over a BILLION sold!)
Diana Ross - 100,000,000+ records sold
Dionne Warwick - 100,000,000+ records sold
Willie Nelson - 40,000,000+ records sold
Al Jarreau - 4,760,000+ records sold
Bruce Springsteen - 150,000,000+ records sold
Kenny Loggins - 25,000,000+ records sold
Steve Perry - 49,730,000+ records sold (47,000,000 as part of Journey, with 2,730,000 as a solo artist)
Daryl Hall - 60,000,000+ records sold (as part of Daryl Hall & John Oates - aka "Hall & Oates")
Huey Lewis - 30,000,000+ records sold
Cyndi Lauper - 50,000,000+ records sold
Kim Carnes - 1,588,000+ records sold
Bob Dylan - 145,000,000+ records sold
Ray Charles - 10,465,695+ records sold
So, to put it mildly, 2,344,543,950 albums have been sold between all of the artists who had singing roles outside of the chorus. These were all giants in the industry at time that they recorded this song - which, by the way, they did right after the Grammy Awards that particular year.

The great part about older music is that all the artists had their own distinctive voices, now they are all auto tuned to death and mostly all sound the same.
