Im almost 48 and i REMEMBER when this song came out i still cry.. baby boy if u got goosebumps than it hit your soul as it should ❤❤❤❤Thank you sweetie
I'm 29 and the first time I heard it was just to sa 10 years ago and even I was crying every time I hear it just makes me smile every time I hear this song
There was a terrible famine in several African countries. This production launched a huge fundraiser for those nations. I remember when the song was released, cities all over the US held pubic viewings outdoors where millions showed up to support their efforts. Wonderful work ❤️
I'm in my 40s now. I was in primary school in Ireland when that song came out first in the 1980s. We saved every penny we had to send to Africa that Christmas. The whole world came together to help the famine in Africa. It was really bad in Africa. Every single school and college raised money also. We sold milk, we sold toys, we made cakes, we did unimaginable things to get money. It brings back some memories to me. Sad and good , I know all those artists. Bob geldof started that movement.
The guy that you said,’who is that? It’s BOB DYLAN (just the greatest song writer/poet of all time Nobel Laureate)with the fabulous Stevie Wonders,is Bruce Springsteen.Way to go man for knowing the people you did!🇨🇦
Now that you have been introduced to so many great voices, it is time to listen to "The Voice", Steve Perry and Journey. 1981 Concert recorded live. "Don't stop believing" and "Mother, Father". Steve Perry's voice will blow you away.
I think we all react that way when we here Bob Dylan and I'm an American who has seen him live Lol. If you go down the "rabbit hole" of Bob Dylan you'll disc9ver he's one of the greatest songwriters all-time
I watched a documentary on Netflix yesterday about how this song came to life. Amazing! “the greatest night in pop”. Highly recommend it. If you cry now to that song, You will need tissues for the documentary 😊 enjoy
That documentary answered so many questions for me. I'm obsessed by this song in it's entirety. I'm mean how did that guy know which order to feature each singer? Crazy talent

Ray Charles, the African American wearing glasses playing the piano. Hall and Oats, Kenny Loggins, Dione Warwick, Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers, so many of them were the voices of their generations.

I think everyone should listen to this once a day. It is so moving and makes you think about what's going on in the world. Maybe it makes you want to help someone or at least make you thankful for your surroundings and what you have. I listen on a daily basis. It is emotional to me every time.
Awesome 👍 So great to see youth being introduced to what we oldies grew up with Band-Aid, Live-Aid and this song all created a world wide phenomenon and 2 Christmas anthems It wasn't just the songs or the music! It was the feeling at that time! In the 80's there was this overwhelming feeling of everyone loving everyone and coming together. It was a special time to live Great reaction bro ✌️ PS. Can't believe you didn't know Bob Dylan 😅
When I was a boy and this came out I just accepted it for what it was but later on when I started researching the history of different record companies I realized that the reason why this happened was all these artists were Columbia Records people Or people who were managed by people who managed Columbia Records artist ha ha... It helps you understand why certain people were not in this song right ha ha ha....
Some in the background without solos are.Smokey Robinson,. The Pointer Sisters, Dan Akaroyd, Harry Belafonte, Beth Midler, Hall and Oats, Mike Jackson's Siblings, Lead.Singer of LTD Jeffery Osborn..and more.
Times may not be correct but these are the order of the solos Lionel Richie - 0:26 Stevie Wonder - 0:39 Paul Simon - 0:43 Kenny Rogers - 0:53 James Ingram - 0:59 Tina Turner - 1:06 Billy Joel - 1:13 Michael Jackson - 1:19 Diana Ross - 1:32 Dionne Warwick - 1:48 Willie Nelson - 2:02 Al Jarreau - 2:09 Bruce Springsteen - 2:15 Kenny Loggins - 2:21 Steve Perry - 2:28 Daryl Hall - 2:36 Huey Lewis - 2:48 Cyndi Lauper - 2:54 Kim Carnes - 3:02 Bob Dylan - 3:48 Ray Charles - 4:27 “We Are the World” Chorus (alphabetically) Dan Aykroyd Harry Belafonte Lindsey Buckingham Mario Cipollina Johnny Colla Sheila E. There are so many different legends in this video It's unreal. Across all genres. No egos. Just really coming together for the people in Africa to get clean drinking water. Something that everyone else takes for granted. This is just awesome to a degree that is unheard of now.
I hate myself for enjoying all the artists the younger people miss. I then like it when they work out who the singers were. This song was played for months in the top 40 and we all loved it at the time.
Since you're not familiar with some of those who were singing in this song, let me give you some numbers which may help. Here are the rough number of records each soloing singer in this song has actually sold... Lionel Ritchie - 100,000,000+ records sold Stevie Wonder - 100,000,000+ records sold Paul Simon - 7,000,000+ records sold Kenny Rogers - 120,000,000+ records sold James Ingram - 1,000,000+ records sold Tina Turner - 100,000,000+ records sold Billy Joel - 150,000,000+ records sold Michael Jackson - 1,000,000,000+ records sold (yes, over a BILLION sold!) Diana Ross - 100,000,000+ records sold Dionne Warwick - 100,000,000+ records sold Willie Nelson - 40,000,000+ records sold Al Jarreau - 4,760,000+ records sold Bruce Springsteen - 150,000,000+ records sold Kenny Loggins - 25,000,000+ records sold Steve Perry - 49,730,000+ records sold (47,000,000 as part of Journey, with 2,730,000 as a solo artist) Daryl Hall - 60,000,000+ records sold (as part of Daryl Hall & John Oates - aka "Hall & Oates") Huey Lewis - 30,000,000+ records sold Cyndi Lauper - 50,000,000+ records sold Kim Carnes - 1,588,000+ records sold Bob Dylan - 145,000,000+ records sold Ray Charles - 10,465,695+ records sold So, to put it mildly, 2,344,543,950 albums have been sold between all of the artists who had singing roles outside of the chorus. These were all giants in the industry at time that they recorded this song - which, by the way, they did right after the Grammy Awards that particular year.
It was actually just after the American Music Awards show, which Lionel Richie hosted. There is an amazing documentary out now that gives greater insight to this one night of amazing music.
💖 Just a FUN list of who you missed ⭐️ Paul Simon 📌 Solo now. Was half of “Simon and Garfunkel” He still is at times, if they’re getting along 🤣 ⭐️ James Ingram ⭐️ Tina Turner - legend ⭐️ Billy Joel ⭐️ Dionne Warwick (Whitney Houston’s cousin) ⭐️ Willie Nelson - legend ⭐️ Al Jarreau 🌟 Bruce Springsteen 📌 AKA “The Boss”- legend 🙏He flew from New Jersey to Los Angeles, after the last night of his tour, just to participate in this event. ⭐️ Kenny Loggins ⭐️ Steve Perry - legend 📌 AKA “The Voice” Formally with “Journey” so sad that you don’t know him ⭐️ Daryl Hall 📌 Was half of “Hall and Oates” ⭐️ Huey Lewis - 📌 “Huey Lewis and The News” ⭐️ Kim Carnes 🌟 Bob Dylan 📌 I’m 59 years old and I’m still trying to understand how anyone can consider him a legend. As a songwriter -YES. But when he opens his mouth to sing - 🤮🤮 ⭐️ Ray Charles - legend 🤷🏻♀️Although I don’t know everyone singing background, I know a few, so Honorable Mentions ☄️John Oates - 📌 Was half of “Hall and Oates” ☄️Dan Aykroyd “Who ya gonna call?” ☄️Harry Belafonte (legend) ☄️Lindsey Buckingham 📌Formerly with Fleetwood Mac ☄️Members of the Jackson Family ☄️*All or some of the Pointer Sisters ☄️ Smokey Robinson (legend)
The great part about older music is that all the artists had their own distinctive voices, now they are all auto tuned to death and mostly all sound the same.
So cute when someone doesn't recognize Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Ray Charles, but keep doing these and you will. Loving these reactions, thank you.
Not to mention Kenny Rogers, Harry Belafonte, John Oates and on and on
Honestly even though I grew up with all of them I blank on names occasionally.
I'm glad you think it's cute, because it's highly annoying to me. 😂
Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder together is like fire and Ice Just Beautiful ❤....
Sobrang gwapo at galing ni bruce springteen nakaka inlove sya

You will never see that amount of TALENT in one room ever again.
Especially working for free
Well, technically they were all in the same room the day before, because they filmed this when everyone was in town for the Grammys. But certainly not singing in the same room!
There's not that amount of talent in the WORLD today.
There was a massive famine that was ongoing in Africa . This group of artists came together. It made a very big impression.
You could say that. It's still the 8th most sold record of all time.
@ I wouldn’t doubt it. It was a huge deal.
OH YEAH ...that is epic !!! The soloists in order were : Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles
The Choir behind them : Dan Aykroyd, Harry Belafonte, Lindsey Buckingham, Mario Cipollina, Johnny Colla, Sheila E., Bob Geldof, Bill Gibson, Chris Hayes, Sean Hopper, Jackie Jackson, La Toya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tito Jackson, Waylon Jennings, Bette Midler, John Oates, Jeffrey Osborne, Anita Pointer, June Pointer, Ruth Pointer, Smokey Robinson.
Huey Lewis said his solo was supposed to be for Prince, but he backed out at the last minute. So they basically looked around, spotted him, and said, hey, Huey, come do this.
Even in a room of great singers, the clarity and easy power of Steve Perry's voice stands out.

Welcome to our decades of music.......no auto-tune, all talent. ❤❤❤❤
True. There was a lot less faking it with technology and cost of recording and distribution made talent a necessity.
Pure Talent! Nothing like it! Authentic and Individuality. You know the singers when they song. No guess work like I have to do today.
I feel fortunate to have been able to grow up experiencing music as it should be: natural talent and no auto tune.
the banger is Kenny Loggins, Highway to the Danger Zone
And ‘I’m free (Heaven helps the man)’
It's mind blowing thinking of having that many big singers in one room together, singing together. I don't think we even have that many singers on that level today.
What impresses me is that each artist has their distinct vocal style in solos, yet all their voices fit together in the chorus.

well done young man, along your reaction journey you come across some of these artists eventually, then revisit this song.
We all have goosebumps , can't be helped ❤❤
Michael and Lionel wrote the song, with some help from Stevie and Kenny Rogers. I know it doesn't get any better than orgasmic.
I think everyone should listen to this once a day. It is so moving and makes you think about what's going on in the world. Maybe it makes you want to help someone or at least make you thankful for your surroundings and what you have. I listen on a daily basis. It is emotional to me every time.
Great reaction! I'm so impressed that you knew so many of the singers!
You need to hear Bee Gees. Anything you pick will be amazing!
Awesome 👍
So great to see youth being introduced to what we oldies grew up with
Band-Aid, Live-Aid and this song all created a world wide phenomenon and 2 Christmas anthems
It wasn't just the songs or the music! It was the feeling at that time! In the 80's there was this overwhelming feeling of everyone loving everyone and coming together. It was a special time to live
Great reaction bro ✌️
PS. Can't believe you didn't know Bob Dylan 😅
Yep. Wouldn't trade getting to be young in the 80s for all the tech and social media of today. Especially social media. I had friends in real life.
Steve Perry deserved a longer solo. He made a song for this album too. There's a video of the making of this music video and song.
You are wise beyond your years, friend. Well done.

Harry Belafontes face cracks me up every time 😂
There are so many different legends in this video It's unreal. Across all genres. No egos. Just really coming together for the people in Africa to get clean drinking water. Something that everyone else takes for granted. This is just awesome to a degree that is unheard of now.
We were spoiled.
James Ingram...he is amazing 2 me...
This was to aid the Ethiopian Famine of 1984/85.
..Lo bonito q nos dejó michael❤❤ unico...esto es cantar y en 10 horas d grabacion👏👏
This is more equivalent to the 'Do They Know It's Christmas' single. Not Live Aid as such, but all raising money to help Africa
I hate myself for enjoying all the artists the younger people miss. I then like it when they work out who the singers were. This song was played for months in the top 40 and we all loved it at the time.
So beautiful! Sad that much of that talent is no longer with us😢
I could watch this all night long! it was fun how you recognized Micheal 3 notes in to his solo.obviously a fan.
Since you're not familiar with some of those who were singing in this song, let me give you some numbers which may help. Here are the rough number of records each soloing singer in this song has actually sold...
Lionel Ritchie - 100,000,000+ records sold

Paul Simon - 7,000,000+ records sold
Kenny Rogers - 120,000,000+ records sold
James Ingram - 1,000,000+ records sold
Tina Turner - 100,000,000+ records sold
Billy Joel - 150,000,000+ records sold
Michael Jackson - 1,000,000,000+ records sold (yes, over a BILLION sold!)

So, to put it mildly, 2,344,543,950 albums have been sold between all of the artists who had singing roles outside of the chorus. These were all giants in the industry at time that they recorded this song - which, by the way, they did right after the Grammy Awards that particular year.
Tina hovers closer to 150 million with global recertifications.
It was actually just after the American Music Awards show, which Lionel Richie hosted. There is an amazing documentary out now that gives greater insight to this one night of amazing music.

Loved your reaction! Great job.
This was a long time ago, I believe it was in response to famine in Africa.
The great part about older music is that all the artists had their own distinctive voices, now they are all auto tuned to death and mostly all sound the same.
All the artists coming together...no ego trips...RAY Charles is amazing.
The bridge:
MJ (obvs!)
Huey Lewis
Cindi Lauper
Kim Carnes
