- There have been more and more trim restoration products coming out which i think is great! Ive been pleasantly surprised by how these products work and they all do a great job making your plastic trim look great. BUT, I want to know which one is the best... Which one lasts the longest and gives the most protection against the elements. So today, I will be looking at 4 different trim products that I applied to a vehicle 2 months ago. The vehicle was parked outside the whole time and it was rained on numerous times. I also washed the vehicle once. So we which trim restoration product looks the best after 2 months. Then I will try to remove the products with degreaser and panel prep products to see which one holds up the best... ENJOY!!!

Cerakote user, here in Florida we have i won't afraid to say the most brutal heat in US, used 2wipes on my Lexus RX 350 that was used on Turo as a rental vehicle, so it wasn't washed as much as my personal car, results after one year are phenomenal, no fading what so ever, looks exactly the same as the day i applied it to. I applied it on clean vehicle, but before application i wiped all trim parts with isopropyl alcohol 91%. So everything bonded together nicely. won't be able to tell will it last 2 years, because sold my lexus one month ago. but for sure, will stick to cerakote to all of my future cars in my fleet.

I just put cerecoat on the trim on my wife’s 2021 trail blazer and it looks better then it did when she first got it lol

Cerakote is my favorite too. It brought back my burnt trim back to life on my 03 dodge ram 1500

just the video I was hoping to find , great info Josh 👍 I have some trim on an 07 truck that needs restoring really bad. I’m undecided between the turtle wax and 303. The torture test is good to see. And since I won’t be doing any torture test on mine I think I’m gonna go with the TW to hopefully get some color back. These are trim pieces that are gray and replacing them for some reason is costly right now.

i use cerakoat trim coat on my nissan titan and it works amazing and continues to look new and has great hydro phobic properties too.
i use my same Gyeon Tire Dressing for black trims like when detailing my girlfriends car and it leaves it beautiful and acts as a ceramic coating as well
Thankyou, I was decided between turtlewax and cerakote.
Used the cerakote on my 2015 extended length Expedition and am very happy with the results. Used 4 wipes out of ten and was able to cover all the trim including the running boards. Glad I took your suggestion.

I purchased Cerakote based on your recommendation but I am using it on a new car to keep it looking good for longer. The stuff works great ok textured plastics, not so much on smooth. Great video. Thanks for the update.

Hey, I don't know if you watch project farm, but cerakotes windshield repellent isn't too great. Unfortunate because the branding is pretty cool. With products in general I would love to be able to stick to a single brand so everything matches, but unfortunately you need to mix and match for the best results.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Save your money. Don't waste it on Solution Finish. It's black, sticky goo that washes off just like the cheapest product you can buy. Trim Coat is awesome.

I used the wipes on my work van and it came out amazing. All my coworkers call me an idiot for detailing my cable van, but it looks nicer than the new vans that some people have.
Ha that’s awesome! My Dad worked for sears as a tv repair man and he always kept his van looking the best too!
I use that Cerakote product on my granddaughters beat up old Ford Windstar. The trim was really badly faded. That stuff works fantastic. And it lasts a long time.
If they made a box of it $60 I’d probably still fork over the money just because it’s such a good quality product
Hey Josh I am looking into buying my first polisher because your channel! Love it. Also you should do a video on what to do on a brand new paint job, or new car. Do we sand ? Polish ? How long to wait after paint to work on it. Anything at all. My project car is in the paint shop now so I want to learn much as I can and not much reputable channels have videos on it

Cerakote definitely works although better on some plastics than others. Still beads after about 18 months but starting to show striping on the worse plastics. Worth the $$$.
what plastcs is it better on? The rubber trim around sunroofs and windows, etc or the more hard plastic around bumpers?
@@dg7438 It doesn't work as well on smooth plastics as it does on textured plastics. It doesnt actually say its for rubber but it holds up well on window rubber seals/surrounds.
Have had TW Graphene Acrylic Trim on since it was released and it looks just as good as the day I applied it. I hand wash every 1-2 weeks. Obviously, torture testing serves a purpose but real-world durability is all that really matters.

In June 2023, 303 Graphene Trim can be purchased at Advanced Auto Parts for $15.99 and if you buy a quantity of 3 get $8 Off. The 8oz bottle is not topped off as you must shake the bottle prior to use. I had a $5 Speed Perk Reward therefore, I got $13 off my purchase, and before tax was $34.98 for 3 bottles.
* Update August 19, 2023, 303 Graphine Trim unable to notice any change on new plastic trim windshield wiper cowl on 2022 Civic Touring and 2023 Camry XSE V6. Besides, there is zero black tinge of color when dripped on pure white microfiber towel and when poured into a clear plastic cap there is no signs of it having Black color or dye. It is rather expensive for 8 ounces. I've shaken all 3 bottles I have bought for at least 10 to 15 minutes each and no black color ever. I have no idea if this stuff works. I bought four 1-gallon jugs of 303 Aerospace Protectant for exterior use and it is milky like 1 percent milk. I have used for several months 303 3 in 1 Leather Complete Care spray, which seems to do okay but does it protect IDK. I believe 303 creditability is overrated and hyped ... unable to establish any concept that 303 products work with anything. I will no longer purchase 303 products because never get any visual results.
I find Turtlewax and Mequiar to have excellent products. Used several Chemical Guy products over the last 2 years as they are par or mediocre as results are just okay never satisfying, going to give Adams a try in the future. Mothers and Armor All just junk. Stick with Turtlewax and Meguiar.

Thanks for the video ….. I have an FJ Cruiser and have used boiled linseed oil on the trim & am satisfied…..inexpensive. Just saying ✌🏻

Interesting! Just applied the TW a week ago and was curious about longevity. It is glossier than I expected, but my 2018 F150 trim looks new.
Yea definitely expect a few months atleast… unless your truck gets hit by degreaser a lot haha
I used the Cerakote a week ago on my 2001 F-150 and though the trim is nice and black, its shinier than I would have preferred. I'm wondering if these 'long' duration products are all really glossy.
Hey Josh, can you possibly do a new updated video on new detailing products from your local Walmart? The good and the ones to avoid. I went to my local Walmart and have seen they’ve added a lot of other products. But I always go off your reviews!

Josh, Cerakote has placed first in other tests by other detailers. But the small towelettes are not cost effective. PLEASE Cerakote change your packaging! Another trim product you might try is from Malco, Revive Nu. 16 oz for about $30.00.

i have a gm truck i have had for about 3 years now and it had a type of ceramic coating on the plastics to protect them from fading, the problem i have now is that the plastic is looking like it fading again but won't accept any restore products. i would like to see if you have this same problem down the road with the cerakote and 303, would be interested to find out. thanks for the video.
The only one if the four i have used us Solution finish. Use it on a Jeep and work vans (own a plumbing company). I dont think i have had SF faid nearly that fast. I could be misremembering though. I think I reapply 6-9 months.
What about Gtechniq C4, I have used that and had very good results.
Cleaning plastic thoroughly then Use mdr with a boar brush liberellay agitate after a minute, leave it to dry then rinse..
When are you are pressure washing and you take a break to wash the wheels or car, do you have to turn off the water or pressure washer?
I had a hose blow up on me, but I think it was because the hose was cheap
What about a product for the rubber windshield trim and door trim? Cerakote specifically says it is for "plastic trim".

I have a couple of pieces of very much grey-ing plastic trim along with some newer black trim. Will the Cerakote make them both look equally black, or should I stick with something like the TW product with a dye in it to get all of the pieces looking similar?
hey josh, i had used cerakote before with great results.. i tried the 303 last weekend and it went in great.. only issue with the 303 is it is not a slick product... also it seems to collect dust and pollen... wondering if others had similar uses
Your whole vehicle will collect pollen like all others who park their vehicle outdoors in the springtime. 303 Graphene is meant for exterior trim. I use 303 Aerospace Protectant for the interior trim, dashboard, and under the hood aka engine bay. For vinyl, imitation leather, and leather I use 303 Leather 3 in 1 complete care. For tires, I use Chemical Guys VRP "Vinyl, Rubber, and Plastic which does not give a bright Tire Shine or Super Gloss appearance. Exterior I like using Turtle Wax Ceramic Acrylic Spray Wax. Okay, just use what seems best for you. Enjoy! I will rather be showing off my Clean and Shiny car than people looking at my High Gloss Shiny Tires.

Before I use this product I apparently ran over a paint can and have spots on the trim that I haven't been able to remove. Any suggestions?

What about weather stripping? Any recommendations? Love the videos you have saved me time and money, and my car looks amazing.
For weather-stripping just use silicone spray.
depends if you live where it is cold or hot. Cold climate silicone base so door weather stripping doesn't freeze together, otherwise, 303 Aerospace Protectant does very well. Could try a light coat of Vasoline, if not clear silicone.
Just got a new GX550 with plastic fenders and trim. A lot of these seem to be “restorers” for faded plastic what should I use to protect new plastic and the regular maintenance? Thanks!!
Just experimented with something a little different. I tried autoglym tyre gel on the plastic trim. It did a great job. Then after letting it dry i gave it a double layer of tw ceramic spray. I do not know how long it will last but i had the stuff anyway
Yea, i will use a water based tire dressing on plastics in many cases!
@@imjoshv Well the night last night was rainy and there was beading on the trim, and no sign of wear for the first night so thats pretty good, i guess the sealant bonded well enough
If you use Flood Penetrol for oil based paints - $14 a quart it is better than all those products and last just as long + with a quart you can do your car 40 times minimum. Maybe 30 if you have a truck with a lot of plastic.
Still like the Solution....man, that bottle last a long long time. Nice results...even if it's shorter for detailing

40 dollars for 12 ounces but you need very little product to cover
That bottle could last a very very long time
Solution finish is more like a factory finish and it actually gets in to the pours of the plastic
If you let it dry completely you simply put some griots 3-1 ceramic wax on it and it will last a really long time.

I'd say a benefit 303 has over the Cerakote is the 8oz vs the packets. You can do more cars or it'll last longer (the bottle) for one car. You just have to reapply. So depends on the goal. As for me just detailing for the family cars, I'll use the Cerakote and be done for awhile. As a business, 303 is better for the money because of how many more cars you get out of it. Just my take.
Yea i agree with that. For a business application i think you could upcharge for the cerakote... But like i said in the video the the 303 really impressed me

I have a question do polish a car with no scratches I have 2 white trucks and I don't see any scratches should I just wash it and wax it or turtle ceramic spray it?

I’ve read that you cannot redcoat Ceracoat when it begins to fade. You must sand it all off. Have you experimented with this ?
Solution finish now has a top coat to put over the base coat. So should last longer.
I just saw that! All 3 of the other products have protection in them so for solution finish to not last as long makes sense. But topping it now looks like it could be an awesome option. I really like the natural finish Solution Finish gives

Solution Finish is still a great option! Just let it dry then put some protection over it! They just came out with a topper product

There's a huge difference when applied to flat surface vs something that has pattern on it or it is rugged. IIRC, Cerakote does not work on flat surfaces.
I used solution finish to make plastics black again. Then I coated my entire vehicle in adams advanced graphene spray coating. Plastics are still looking brand new and perfectly black 6 months later. Of course I haven't scrubbed it down with a high ph cleaner. Why would I?
I’ve used the cerakot product on my 2006 911 (non daily) and it looks incredible when applied and probably about a year. I am 18-24 months out and it is starting to fade and show signs of wear it kind of cracking. Now I gotta figure out how to re due it (needs to be stripped or just apply over?)

I need to fix my trim... I got some wax on it and I can't get that white, grey looking stuff off. I tried washing it. I wash it like once a week or every other week. Depends on how dirty it looks. I've tried some trim restor stuff and it still pops up when it's dry.
Sure wish you'd have just done maintenance washes and let these coatings wear away naturally to see what they'd look like at 3,4,5, or more, months. And just as an FYI, I bought and used the Cerakote on my 2001 F-150 that's got a ton of black trim and managed to use the entire box of wipes, so I'm not sure about value just yet. Will have to wait and see how it survives over time and when and/or how often it will need to be re-applied.
**** Important: You need to highlight over and over how imperative it is to 'immediately' wipe away any Cerakote that gets on glass or paint. I missed a spot on a side window and after it had dried overnight, I had to remove it with a razor blade and soapy water (as lubrication) after Mineral Spirits, Goof Off, and Acetone didn't work.

Did the 303 change their formula? Apex Detail did their test a short time ago and that showed up as clear as he applied it to the foam applicator.
It looked kinda gray to me. Since he was using the black applicator it was difficult to see.
Im not sure but there is definitely a dark tint to it

Will Cerakote ever come out with a bottled product? Those wipes are so-so and the contents of their wipes isn’t consistent. Perhaps a production packing issue? 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

I'll second this. A 10oz bottle and foam applicator would be a much better solution IMHO.
I use the 303 Graphene solution, absolutely love it. But that CERAKOTE has me sold. I'm about finished with my 303 Graphene solution, so next store visit will be CERAKOTE. A lot of CERAKOTE's products have impressed me, including the headlight restore kits.
