I'm impressed by the restoration, products, and techniques. But my favorite parts of your videos are the narration, sounds of the brushes, sprays, and wipes, and the hints of the background noises (birds, other vehicles passing by) in between narration. Your videos are always very calming, yet entertaining and informative!
The result was very good, I personally believe that faded trim is one of the give away signs of a ageing vehicle, making it look darker and more factory fresh, certainly lifts the appearance of the whole finish.
Thank you as always for the commentary rather than music layover.
Music layover coming next video as my voice needs a rest 👀
I think it adds a lot to any older car. Just like replacing or polishing tired headlights takes 10 years off.
This was an inspiration to watch
Nice turnaround there Joe. The Turtle has done it again! 🐢
I think I've posted something similar before - but just wanted to say how much I appreciate how "real world" your videos are - most other detailing channels they are using tens of thousands of dollars of hoists, protected from the weather by fancy garages and so on - and in the real world almost NONE of us have access to that kind of stuff. It's way more inspiring to get out there and try some of this when you see how much can be done in your own yard with just quality tools and products (and products that anyone can get hold of easily too!), and plenty of elbow grease.
Exactly what the doctor ordered! Thank you car cleaning guru!
Looks just the job, will be interested in updates on how its faring over the months.
Definitely worth the effort of doing the black trim on cars. I wonder how it stands up against solution finish. I find the round make up pads and cotton buds are great for the fiddly bits, ie, around mirrors and grills. Another great video Joe.
This used to be a regular fetish of mine many years ago with my Nova Sr and it's dark grey exterior bumpers and trim - a large spray can of back to black was the order of the day back then!
This product I assume is better than back to black correct? I had the mothers stuff but tossed it as it was not worth it in my opinion.
Looks so much better!
You deffo should do a tiktok car cleaning hack showcase or something along those lines 😂🤣
Best to always tape off around areas you’re applying to avoid the inevitable overspill onto other surfaces. Cheap, low tack tape will do perfectly 👍🏼
Definitely worth a try, nothing worse than spending the day cleaning your only for it to be let down after by faded plastic trim
Yep, definitely worth the time! It looked loads better after being treated! 👍
I love your jam jar!!
The G Technic permanent trim restorer is the best product I have seen like this. Works on any finish and leaves a brand new streak free finish.
Looks great, need to do this to my JDM Subaru that spent the better part of 2 decades under the Nippon sun.
Cool , will be looking for a new trim dressing soon
Fed up with the autoglym trim gel , just washes off
Looks great! Curious to its longevity.
Did the same using this product!! Never took off any of the trim, Car wash leave to dry apply 2 coats in full Sun, 5 minutes between coats job done!! Preparation is important tapping around trim no over run!! 👍
They look great and it was definitely worth the time and effort. The only thing that bothered me was that you didn't clean off the body before you put the rear mudguards back on. LOL
Cheers Joe, just snagged a bottle from the link. I have an eight year old civic and most trim products tend to wash out quite early well worth a shot at that price
This shouldn’t wash off as it’s not a dressing but can be a bit finicky to apply.
Thanks Guru, been hunting for a good trim restorer. South African sun isn't kind to a 10 year old Swift Sport
Very nice results with that Turtle Wax stuff. Our crossover/SUVs have LOTS of black plastic cladding--nice, dark trim really helps the vehicles to look their best.
I've used it, works well, better than anything else I've tried 💯
This application is still visible on most parts 10 months on.
Looks like a great product Joe! 🤩😊
Looks great, thanks for showing it off!
Might come in handy for me working on bicycles which have the same problem with black plastics.
Looks very impressive matey, time will tell I guess.
Looks natural
Good stuff. Looks great. Never ceases to amaze me how great TW Hybrid Solutions products are.
Putting the big "D" in detail! Excellent video
Looks very good. Must get some to try on my mbike mudguards and panners
Should be perfect for that I reckon.
Will be good to see how long this lasts!
It's just another dressing that will wear off fast depending on whether the car is garaged and how often it is washed. Rubish. He should have used a true restoring plastic trim spray dye given he removed all the panel. Inbreeding in the UK has taken its toll.
@@JetFire9LoL
I used this on my 2012 civic, a months on the trims are still looking good.
It's amazing the difference tidying up the small parts makes to the overall look of the vehicle, I've heard and seen some other detailers on the plastic trim just use a heat gun in order to slightly melt the plastic to restore it back to its original finish as this is supposedly melting out some of the oils and replacing the stuff that has dried off over the years, I personally think I'd prefer the apply a product option myself though.
This was soothing. Thank you!
Looks brill. Worth every second mate!
Looks like a great product. I stick with owatrol polytrol, mainly because the tin i bought will last me pretty much a lifetime.
Stuff looks great!
Looks 5 years younger! Nice framing.
Yes looks better ,I’ll be getting a bottle fella stay lucky! 😉
Be interested to see how this fairs over the next few months. Good results from initial application though.
Might get some of this for my mini r53. Already use turtle wax trim restorer cream with excellent results and the only one I really ever use once every few months.
GTechniq C4 is great on smooth plastics but this sounds like it could be ideal on the lower textured trim on the wife’s Honda C- HR which are a pain to keep looking good. Swear the thing has more plastic than paint! Thanks for video Joe! 👍🏾Car looks cool BTW 😎
nice job Joe, looks much better. Wonder how well the TW product stacks up against AM Trim.
Good honest review, my results were really patchy and loads of streaks, smooth plastics though, so sadly this product is not for me.
I've got an 02 Chevy Impala, and the trim fades horrendously on it. Gonna pick this stuff up and give it a go! Love your vids Guru, keep up the good work!
I tried cerakote on my Tucson that had tons of grey trim. Followed the directions and so far it’s been through two washes and several days of rain and still looks like I just applied it
I restore the trims on my trackcar, the most underrated thing you can do to a car when cleaning
More slick and aerodynamic haha.
Looks great and well worth the trouble of doing so.
My kind of work❤❤❤
On the fence waiting for the review. Laughed at the black smudged bottle.
mmm. Turtle Wax Colour Magic Black polish
Was gonna try the g technic trim restorer you used on the orig volvo guru mobile
Great review, it'll be interesting to see if it stands the test of time. 🤙
Looks gooood, I am using Poorboys trim restore (easy, looks good but short “lifespan”)
Nice vid guru
Looks great, i just wonder how long it'll last
I've used most of the trim restore products on the USA market. I settled on Cerakote as the best and longest lasting. This spring I used Turtle Wax trim restore and it does as good of job as the Cerakote and so far seems to be as lasting. The TW is less than half the price of Cerakote.
Still holding up well on my plastics 3+ months on.
What about arch liners?? Might get some and see how effective it is on those
I did the same on my Alfa Romeo 159 a year ago, but i was use spray and some handwork prepairing and results are amazing, everyone asking me where i was buy plastic for car.
Im not sure is this resistant at cold and raini weathers?
Also did i need to repeat process again afther this and hoe many times i need to apply this on trim plastics? Did manual instructions come wich bottle?
Going to give it a go, got a few faded pannels that the cheap spray from the supermarket doesn't seem to have done anything with
I used some of this on the black faded side skirts of my 2016 vitara, the first coat looked rubbish with streaks in it but 2nd coat things look way better.
About time!!!!
looks pretty good to me
Nice job. I’ll give it a go at the weekend on the JCW Mini which is mostly textured black plastic and let you know. 👍
How did you get on mate? Have a Mini JCW and looking to try this too!!
@@simonbaker5984 hi. Hit and miss. Great on first application but noticed it seemed to go patchy especially if u use a jet washer. I’m not convinced. 303 is much better in my mind. Hope your enjoying your JCW
@@duncangrainge yes mate 3rd one & still loving it 😊. Need to to prise the keys off my wife 🤣🤣. Thanks for the heads up👍👍 back to PERL then. Or C4 if I decide to spend 4 times the cost. Just trying to cheap out 🤣🤣
@@simonbaker5984 roger that pal. Hide the keys lol
Great work and video...and yes, it definitely gives the look of the car a huge improvement over faded plastics....but as others have said, durability and longevity are key with these products.....another main brand bumper gel looks great when applied, but once it gets wet, just runs off and streaks.
I always used to find these products, even when buffed off, ended up on wash mitts when washing and seem to dissolve the suds in the wash bucket.
Yeh dressings do often flatten suds so maybe leave washing over dressed surfaces until last.
Looks perfect to me... tried loads of "magic fixes" on my 10 y/o transit... but none last... I'll give this a try... thanks
I’d be interested in your thoughts of this vs Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer..?
Will need to look into this . I've a 17 Yr old Mitsubishi and one trim around the mirror housing will not go darker no matter what products I attempt to use on it
seems to work, not sure if its better or easier than I could do with a proper mask up and spray paint though
How long is this suppose to last?
Do they do anything for the interior trim? I've tried a few products on the other half's Honda door card. There is a bit of wear or discolouring but nothing brought it all nice and glossy black etc colouring.
Good Evening car cleaning Guru
Just wondering what is the best way to get rid of moss that is stuck in between? The plastic bit between the window and the rubber stripping along the window.
Thank you fantastic video
Tristan
You should be able to jetwash most of it out. Follow-up with a detailing brush, kebab stick (cloth on end), and some APC for the rest.
@@as680783 thank you very much for that much appreciated.
Informative and amusing what more do you want?
always looks better i always used black to black not nice stuff but what i had nice vid
Lots of trim on my '05 MR2 to restore, so intrigued about this stuff. Would love your thoughts on how this compares to the Gtechniq C4 restorer which you've previously used and recommended?
Was gonna look into the g technic c4 as well
C4 Is excellent, prep is key but I've never been disappointed with the results
Two products that have out performed the Gtechniq C4 are Cerakote & Malco Revive Nu in some youtuber videos.
Cheers for the replies. Very invaluable!
In the States, there are two products that have done well in other tests, Cerakote & Malco Revive Nu. Malco is more cost effective in a business environment, but Cerakote seems to last the longest?
would be interesting to see how long this one lasts.
Results looked good. I need to do this on my wife's and daughters car to 're-colour the trim rather than just dress it. Surprised to hear the product is designed for textured trim, I would have thought most black plastic trim is smooth. Looks like it will be worth a go though.
What do you recommend for external black non painted plastics ?
I’ve had good results with Koch Chemie Pss 👍🏽
1:18 nice MF DOOM reference 👌
use ceramic coating spray after it dries it can last a year or two might even be longer
I guess its another alternative to using Solution Finish Trim Restorer.
Try Cerakote Ceramic Trim Coating. Guaranteed for 200 washes!
I think for the average Joe wanting to just enhance to look of their car is will certainly do that. I guess longevity will be the key question here.
Have you tried heating the parts up with a heat gun? That’s good for getting them back to black
Nah. Bad idea. Takes ages, and the fade comes back worse than before. Heatgun job is just a hack, Richard.
@@as680783 ah never mind. I’d seen it on a video once, thought it would have been a good idea
I hope it does better than perl, that one spotted like hell, and autoglym rubber and plastic care also didn’t last
This is essentially a very thin layer of pliable plastic that sits on the surface (a bit like plastidip) so unless it’s abraded off or peels from any edges shouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
@@CarCleaningGuru interesting way of saying it, haven’t thought about that! Seems like it’d work
Do you find that every car detailing brand now including 'ceramic' or 'graphene' in all their products is starting to become a bit gimmicky?
It was ALWAYS just a gimmick. I mean it. Most of the "detailing products" is a gimmick, since you need it to mark up chemicals that are cheaper then the bottle it comes in. No, that is not a metaphor.
Its like when you buy bottled water, you not really paying for that "water".
Most chemicals are so cheap that if you were to pay what it is worth no one would bother selling it in small quantities cause they would spend more money packaging it, let alone delivering and keeping it on the shelf.
This is why you dont see REAL chemical tests being done in detailing word. If I told you the "ceramic" coating is nothing else then clear coat customized for foam application by slowing down curing which allows self leveling as well as having more plasticity (simular to clear coats made for plastic parts) would you pay $100 for tiny bottle?
Ceramic, silica and other naming is essentially anything you can think of. Grab a fist full of dirt and you have silica and ceramics. Its marketing to make you spend $20 for something that costs $0.02. No different than you paying $2 for a "specially filtered, mount everest" bottle of water, which often comes from a tap water in a city close to mountain...where people pay $0.01 a gallon LOL.
Take for example the sprays that gives you the "water beating" property. They used to charge $20 to $50 when it came out. The detailing world took to it like bees to honey and you didn't see ONE honest review since they are all in to make money be it on product or youtube influence.
First, you don't want water BEATING, you want SHEATHING. Cause a day after you apply it you car will start getting dirty and when it rains, that dirt and anything in the water itself will be concentrated in big drops that will dry out and leave behind a THICKER and much more visiable water spots that will be hard to clean without acid based cleaners. Sheathing will do the opposite. It will alow for water to flow away from the panels and to spread out in a even layer on flat parts. That will leave the contemenace way less visiable and because the layer is 100 times more thin, it will be removable by friction alone (hard rub).
So why do they use it?
Simple. The chemical they advertised to people is actually really cheap stuff that was sold to auto car wash stations. Why? Because on the end of the tunnel they have to dry out your car and they do that by using blowers. Now, have you ever used a compressed air to "blow water" away on a clean washed surface (no waxes or coatings)? Doesn't work, does it? Water loves to hold on to surface. So they had to "brake up" the ability of water to hold on to surface (this is why the water puls into droplets) so that it can than be "blown away" in wind tunnel.
THAT IS IT!
For decades, waxes have been formulated to do just the oposite - sheath! THAT is what you want on your perfectly detailed car that will see rain while it is standing still.
Sorry for the long post, hope it helps.
@@MD-gk4uh very very good insight.
This is like putting tyre dressing on a car. It will make it look better even if the rest of the car is filthy
I know because I have washed only wheels and tyres and then put dressing on. It looks much better😂
To this point it looks good to me.
Nevertheless I will go with ceramic coating, this does a good job on Plastik trim and lasted long
I feel that these restorers are too black and not a natural trim color. My mini cooper trim seems faded almost from day one and I use meguires natural every wash which is not fun. How do most users feel about the look of this product compared to new?
A good result and a well constructed video, but there are two things I'd like to say. The 'glare' transition video effect you used between the 'before' and 'after' reveal shots towards the end of the video actually detracted from what you were trying to achieve. In my opinion, it would have been much better to not have employed any transition effect at all.
The second thing is that nearly all of these kinds of products achieve a similar result but what really differentiates them is how long the 'back to black' effect lasts.
Cerakote
I find the solutions that leave your rag of choice black from restoring the trim actually have a negative effect on black trim over the years.
Gtechniq c4 was my go too, until I descovery Solution, 500ml for £37,
It's been proven to be the best trim restorer, better than c4
Polytrol from Owatrol is way better than that. Works on textured and smooth plastic and penetrates the surface to replace the oils.
looks great, took off 10 years off the car
You didn't clean the bumpers when you removed the mudflaps.
Couldn’t be arsed, was getting dark and the whole car needs repainting/wrapping anyway.
I just came for the voice audio
I going to get some of this turtle wax i have a mokka and theres lots of black plastic and sometimes its a battle just to keep it looking good
Hot air gun
