DOOM running on a Pioneer DJ controller (XDJ-RX2)

Instructions to get this to work :
(do not attempt this unless you're good at soldering/linux/etc)
1. Cross-compile fbDOOM for ARM - github.com/maximevince/fbDOOM
2. Put it on a USB stick alongside DOOM.WAD from the shareware release (or full version if you like)
3. Connect a 3.3v UART to port CN1002 on the main PCB (1=3.3v, 2=TXD, 3=RXD, 4=GND)
4. Get Root ( / 1146860035085086720 )
5. kill rbp
6. run fbDOOM from the usb stick (it gets mounted in /media/usbx/sda1)

I like how it says “unsupported device” when the keyboard is plugged in, but Doom is all “don’t worry about that, just hit enter and shoot things”
Yeah the linux kernel on the XDJ has drivers for keyboards, just Pioneer's software doesn't like them. Seems like keyboard support would be useful for searching large song databases
they probably figured if you were gonna go that far you would use a pc
finally the fake dj's have been exposed.
when they're twistin knobs and it doesn't match up with the set its because they're actually playing doom while playing a pre-made mix
I know a few DJs that play mega mixes at gigs they don't care about. This would be perfect for them!

Can you configure it so that it's controlled only through the jog wheels and the pads on dj controller itself?
Yes I'm sure it would be possible, and I'd love to try, but unfortunately this isn't my controller and I need to give it back in a couple days. Maybe I'll buy one and do a proper DOOM port with proper controls and audio etc

Hehe, I was expecting to hear the doom music synthesis, but was surprised to see doom literally running on this thing.... cool! Where can I find some background info about this work? I know, you put a twitter link in the description, but things are drowning so fast there, may be I'm too stupid, but I never can find anything on twitter. It is a platform to get peoples attention for a 3 seconds, but nothing to share the knowledge IMHO.
I'm looking at buying a Pioneer controller to make things more accessible, I'd love to make a DOOM distribution for it :)

It won't run on x64 but it did occur to me you might be able to make a bootleg Pioneer using a raspberry pi

Yeah it doesn't actually modify the controller at all so you just have to turn it off and on again and it's back to normal
