Awesome review! I rented an XDJ RX2 for a month to practice DJing w the CDJ system and it’s super fun and easy to use (once you use rekordbox to prep all your trax). I wish Pioneer didn’t charge $73646484746464 for every piece of equipment 😭😭😭 but it’s solidly built and the features are dope.
@@digitaldjtips Doesn't work, I'm thinking that because this product works with the "Recordbox Software" I have to download Recordbox onto a laptop/PC, then I should get all if the functions. I say this because only part of the TOUCHSCREEN functions are working aswell 🤔
That's odd because it's actually the opposite - QWERTY is only available in standalone mode however you do need to analyse your music in Rekordbox box first before putting it on a USB
Very cool review, man =) At first I thought you only mentioned that it's "expensive".... But when you make the comparison to a NXS-Setup it was OK for me ;) It's a Pioneer after all =D
Hi Joey, no one is mentioning but is it true , new screen is a bit Hazy compared to last one , screen is at bit more angles for better viewing?? Cheers mate
Hey thank you so much for all your great reviews. I'm really learning alot.May I ask a question though.Im new to controllers and I'm looking to by a starter controller for practice and I have two on my mind but I cannot pick which one.Pioneer ddj rb or Hercules jogvision.Im not sure which one to pickup?
Most venues fail to provide decent halfway up to date gear, that's probably the reason why this unit is so successful, rather than it being similar to what's already in clubs (its just a small bonus when it is the case).
@@DJJRCO exactly. Pioneer makes too much money off the cdj's. If they made this 4-channel, their cdj sales would probably dip. I really want this but might just suck it up and wait for the rx3 🤔
I think rx3 is not gonna have 4 channels beacuse cdjs buyers would rather get rx3 than 4 cdjs and a mixer unless u shit money maybe they will add samplers or bigger jogs and a nicer screen :)
Thanks for the review - I purchased the RX2 but I have a question for you. I am finding this very annoying but it may be a case that this machine doesn't allow this to happen. When I cue up a track to the first beat point and then press play, it automatically goes back to a point where the RX2 thinks it should be? If I press the cue and keep my finger on it, it plays where I want it, but as soon as you hit the play, it then jumps back? This only happens when I have the beat sync on, so I presume this is a move you can't do on the RX2?
Could have something to do with the beat grid, yeah. Have a play around with preferences and/or your beat grids and see if changing things up helps. Worst case drop a note on the Pioneer DJ forums and see what they suggest!
You might have quantize on... When you press the cue button it snaps back to the beat grid your songs have. Switch it off if you haven't analyzed your songs yet
MY PIONEER XDJ RX2 REVIEW After years of usage of my beloved RX1 decided to upgrade an RX2 lightly after that was released. I was very excited about the new model, even if that looked almost identical to the previous one. Some background of me, i started dj-ing on vinyl, then went to CDJs. I had several Pioneer models during the years, including XDJs, CDJ 2000s and DJM800, but for my needs i found the Pioneer XDJ RX1 the most suitable. (i also owned other brands but always preferred Pioneer in the dj booth.) So, i am not gonna lie, didn’t like the RX2… If you ever had a RX1 and used it (an loved it) i really not recommend to get an RX2. It’s not gonna worth it for you and due to the new tweaks (listed in my cons below) you will probably end up selling it and going back to the RX1. You might like the RX2 if you never had a RX before, but i found this new model unnecessary and very expensive. Pioneer changed a few things which they shouldn’t do and not in the good way. Now, after a few months of home and gig usage i sold my RX2 and went back to the RX1 instead. I am not saying that you should do the same, but maybe consider this review if you about to upgrade. Pro: ---- - Better, larger (heavier) and more “CDJ-feel” jog wheels - Looks a bit more pro and serious than the RX1 - Slightly accurate track CUE-ing Cons: ----- - Expensive. - The “touch” screen is a gimmick. Only operates needle search and QWERTY keyboard, so don’t expect more and feels “dated” comparing to the cheapest touchscreen iPhone. It’s more like a car navigation system. - Re-arranged knob layout is annoying around the headphone CUE selector - Crowded and busy layout comparing to the RX1 - Track navigation knob/buttons needs some time to get use to after the RX1 - I wasn’t a big fun of the big effect knobs either. - Non-clicking performance pads are easy to touch accidentally. They should have some light feedback/response. - Sound quality is less pronounced and punchy for both output and sound records. It do sounds more “open” and has a wider sound stage, but this can be an issue if you really want to concentrate on beat-matching for example. Some notes will get lost easily and this could be even worst if you are in a very noisy club environment… (or just add less accurate headphone and you probably won’t be able to beatmach tracks manually… :S - Occasional problems with the touch screen. This is a known issue. (Needed to restart or re-calibrate.) - Not a real weakness, but little larger (in height) so you won’t able to use either your RX1 flight case or decksaver cover
If u get from cdj2000s to dj systems like xdjs it shows how dumb you are to go from better professional equipment to replica of that same product but hey everybody has their own taste :) i cannot aford cdj2000s and mixer just for xdj rx2 i was saving 9 months so for me i know that i wouldn't change something that is so expensive and hard to get for something cheaper but maybe you have a lot of money and its not a problem for u :)
Thanks for this thoughtful and honest hands-on comparison Zoltan. We too would like to see faster processors and better screens/responsiveness in the next generation of this device.
Hey Joey, nice review, thanks. Wondering what the limitations on controlling Rekordbox via Performance Mode would be (compared to using RX2 as a standalone unit)? Heard that the sound color FX can't be selected via RX2 buttons (instead you have to change FX in Rekordbox if you want to do anything other than "noise"). Is this still the case? Also, if I edit hotcues and memory cues/loops via RX2 hardware buttons in performance mode (for FLAC files that can't run on standalone mode...) would it actually update the original files on my laptop accordingly (vs. pulling files from laptop in "read-only" fashion and not being able to edit them on RX2)? Thanks a ton.
Not sure about the Sound Color FX being just Noise - it might just be a matter of fixing the settings :) I had a similar experience with my DDJ-RZ where some of the Sound Color FX buttons were mapped to other Sound Color FX in Rekordbox DJ. It's just a matter of fixing them in the app :) and yes, the actual files on your computer get the metadata written when you make changes, including hot cues and memory cues

Hi Joey - I watched your videos and decided to acquire the XDJ - RX2 -> however I 'm having difficulties with: - Using rekordbox sync manager - I don't seem to easily analyze the music and then upload in my USB stick ... any hints with that ? ( despite the fact they "look" analyzed on the USB 2) How to connect my lap top:( well I did with Midi button ) but it played out of the lap top speakers and not from my monitor speakers ... any hints about that ?
Hey Lorenzo! What do you mean "don't seem to easily analyze"? :) When you analyse a track in Rekordbox, it does that in a matter of seconds per track. Bigger libraries take longer to analyse fully. You need to install the XDJ-RX2 driver for your laptop too - you're then able to choose the XDJ-RX2 as the output of your laptop so the sound doesn't come out of your laptop's built-in output :)
hi , can you route Traktor to it in external mode ? I wanna know if I can use mixer effects and if the headphone cue works like in other pioneer djm mixers :)
Thinking about getting one of these, but honestly I'm tempted to wait until next year for the next revision to come out. Denon's prime 4 is technically better in so many ways, hopefully pioneer start trying to match it in terms of features, although as the industry standard they could probably get away with minimal effort. I just hope the next revision reintroduces the bitcrusher to the SCFX section, the RX2's selection off SCFX is a bit lame imo.
@@digitaldjtips argh this is a dilemma. Just seen a deal for a brand new RX2 with carry bag and decksaver for £1200, it's almost too good to pass up. Great review! I like the unit but I would never buy it because you could do more ironically on a Pioneer 4 channel controller/stand alone unit or traktor. Peace!
Ironic? Pioneer have balanced their range so it's pretty much the case of pros and cons between units. The DDJ-RZ is better in every single way except the lack of standalone (which is huge for the RX2), but it suffers from being too big for the mass market, hence the success of the much cheaper and smaller SX2.
This review is excellent! Very clear and addressed most concerns I had. Definitely the video to help push me to buy. 👌🏿

I already sold mine and back to use my DJM-250. looking now for a NXS2 or XONE PX5...
djleeross agree
shit i just bought the rx2 thinking it was a good sound quality WTF and no fx send on each channel before fx
I realy want to have a controler!!!
Great review! I like the unit but I would never buy it because you could do more ironically on a Pioneer 4 channel controller/stand alone unit or traktor. Peace!
Thanks Paige!
Ironic? Pioneer have balanced their range so it's pretty much the case of pros and cons between units. The DDJ-RZ is better in every single way except the lack of standalone (which is huge for the RX2), but it suffers from being too big for the mass market, hence the success of the much cheaper and smaller SX2.
hope atleast this supports serato dj pro !!!!
Give me ddj rr with the screen .
Ooooooo
